EU Farmers Protest Green Policies’ Threat to Greenest Lands

By Vijay Jayaraj

Europe’s picturesque landscapes, adorned with sprawling croplands and pastures, have long been part of the continent’s agrarian identity. However, a wave of farmer protests have intruded on this peaceful scene and extended into cities.

From the rolling hills of France to the windswept plains of Poland, farmers have driven their tractors onto the streets, united in a fight against a threat to their livelihoods. As I write this, thousands of French farmers are on the outskirts of Paris, blocking roads in an act that has been dubbed the “siege of Paris.” The city of Toulouse, home to 800,000 people, was cut off from the rest of France due to protests.

Likewise, in cities across Belgium, Poland, Romania, Lithuania, the Netherlands, and Germany, farmers have blocked roads and conducted targeted protests at public buildings.  Tractor convoys, road blockades, and impassioned speeches reflect the agricultural community’s deep frustration with attempts to reduce farmlands and ban fertilizer use.

The primary policy target of farmers is a so-called Farm to Fork program that seeks to halve pesticide use, reduce fertilizer use, cut by at least 10% agricultural areas and mandate a conversion of 25% of the European Union’s agricultural land to “organic-only” farming. The initiative also includes removal of subsidies for agricultural diesel used in tractors and machinery.

Farmers argue that all these policies jeopardize food security and undermine the rich agricultural heritage that has defined European societies for centuries.

Behind all this is the EU’s climate change agenda’s obsession with reducing harmless industrial and agricultural emissions of greenhouse gases, which include carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane. Farm to Fork is a subset of the bigger Green Deal and Net Zero programs.

France’s largest farm union, FNSEA, says it wants a change in the “very philosophy of the Green Deal which assumes degrowth.”

“French farmers are united in their opposition to absurd, extreme and unworkable environmental policies,” said the president of Coordination Rurale, a French farming group. “Those in power do not spare a thought for the impact of these policies on the livelihoods of farmers, the food security of the nation and the cost-of-living crisis facing ordinary people.”

The farmer unions have a point, and a serious one. Reducing the use of fertilizers would require employing more land for agriculture, but the EU’s green policies intend to decrease the amount of farmland. This amounts to forced agricultural suicide that threatens hunger, death and societal collapse.

In other words, the fight goes beyond the immediate use of land and fertilizers and to the well-being of generations to come. Farm to Fork won’t be resolved until there is an end to the Green Deal and Net Zero programs.

The European agricultural crisis is a warning to citizens of other governments planning to adopt similar policies for agricultural production to avert a nonexistent climate crisis.

So called green policies would kill the greenest parts of our world as they destroy ordinary people’s dream of a decent life with access to basic necessities for living.

mandate a conversion of 25% of the European Union’s agricultural land to “organic-only” farming.

Apparently they want to change the name of Europe to “Sri Lanka”.

Every time politicians reach new depths of unawareness, I think they can’t get worse. And then I’m astonished when they do.

Makes you take more seriously that “The Great Culling” may be a real thing and not just a wild conspiracy theory. Something to think about while you observe what the ruing elites are forcing on us. Connect the dots to form a clearer picture of what’s in store for us. Decreased food supply + unstable/unreliable energy sources + censorship + inability to protect oneself (or be protected by an effective police force) + cold weather = anarchy and mass deaths….and all caused by the evil molecule, CO2 (sarc).

Your article lacks any semblance of balance as it blatantly ignores the EU’s rationale behind these policies. Your failure to incorporate concrete examples or data to support your claims or consider the perspective of so-called farmers makes it dubious at best. It wouldn’t be shocking if the entire narrative is merely fabricated.

Why would the EU have any motive to eliminate me, Scissor? The idea of a large government actively pursuing the elimination of its citizens is counterproductive from a corrupt governance perspective and undermines the power base that sustains political authority. Such drastic actions would lead to anarchy and chaos, counterproductive to the goals of a corrupt politician seeking long-term power retention. The very stability they rely upon for control would crumble with the elimination of the population.

If such a sinister plan were in motion, those orchestrating it would take extreme measures to conceal their actions. You wouldn’t know about it, or even suspect it. A corrupt government would be cognizant of potential suspicions and would go to very extreme lengths to cover their tracks, understanding that any indication of their intentions will spark public scrutiny and international condemnation.

So, the brilliant idea here is that, while calling for heightened vigilance, governments should take a page from the playbook of brutal dictators known for committing unspeakable atrocities. “The idea of a large government actively pursuing the elimination of its citizens is counterproductive from a corrupt governance perspective and undermines the power base that sustains political authority.”

Perhaps, but it’s a hallmark of totalitarian regimes, especially those that are communist.

“The Red Terror became official state policy on September 5, 1918.“We are not waging war against individual persons,” said Cheka leader Martyn Latsis. “We are exterminating the bourgeoisie as a class.” https://www.nationalgeographic.co.uk/history-and-civilisation/2020/09/how-the-red-terror-set-a-macabre-course-for-the-soviet-union

“Such drastic actions would lead to anarchy and chaos, counterproductive to the goals of a corrupt politician seeking long-term power retention. The very stability they rely upon for control would crumble with the elimination of the population.”

Perhaps, in some cases. Certainly not with the Red Guard, to cite one example. The Guard gave Mao exactly what he wanted: suppression of opposition.

“If such a sinister plan were in motion, those orchestrating it would take extreme measures to conceal their actions.”

Like this?

You made an error as it does not mandate organic-only farming. 25% of land should be farmed organically which leaves 75% – or it would if a further 10% was not to be left unfarmed as well.

Mandating organic farming on 25% of the land is mandating organic farming. Which farms are going to be told they’re in the 25 percent? Is the government going to create a bureaucracy to inspect farms to make sure 25% of their land is following the mandate?

Here’s what Vijay Jayaraj said above:

The primary policy target of farmers is a so-called Farm to Fork

European Union’s agricultural land to “organic-only” farming.

Mr Ed
February 12, 2024 10:05 am

It’s amazing how short the publics collective memory is. I have memories of one
of my grandparents farms in the mid-west before the use of granular fertilizer, modern machinery
and other such items that are taken for granted these days. To go back to food production
of that era would be devastating. Life was brutally hard on a farm back even in the ’40’s and
and 50’s. Stories from my other grandads homestead days during the dust bowl are
very grim. These climate nutjobs wouldn’t last under those conditions for a day let alone a week. We’re very blessed to have the food production system knowledge and infrastructure in use today.
There wouldn’t be all the fat obese overweight people we have around around for long.

Reply to  Mr Ed
February 13, 2024 11:27 pm

But there is no such collective memory. The folks coming up with these ideas have probably never been on a farm, let alone done any farmwork. They live in cities and know that their food comes, shrink-wrapped, from the grocery store. No idea whatsoever of what is involved in food production and distribution.

Euro bureaucrats are an elite cadre of blood suckers trying to tell others how to live but with no concept of how our lives are supported by agriculture and industry. Farmers are some of the sanest but most vulnerable people in the world. Power/market grabbers leverage politicians and regulation to get what they want. If they want your land they know how to take it. The trend of moving farmers off land they own has accelerated in the past 30 years. Europe protects their farmers and highly value it’s unique agriculture. It doesn’t see it as a totally mechanized globalized biomass fractionalized food science industry but as a brand rooted in the legacy of it’s human culture. The demand and value of European ag products has exploded since 2000 with the global economic expansion.

This is the reason why EU farmers can say no to insanity and people listen.

In the US, we need provide regulation sanctuaries to give families the opportunity own land and farm at scales from Nano on up…. one small puzzle piece in restoring sanity to America.
