“A Missed Opportunity”: Biden to Skip This Week’s New York UN Climate Summit

Essay by Eric Worrall

In the midst of large New York climate protests, Biden has decided to skip the UN summit and send John Kerry in his place.

Biden to skip U.N. climate summit

By Sara Schonhardt, Robin Bravender | 09/15/2023 04:09 PM EDT

President Joe Biden is expected to skip a U.N. summit next week where global leaders were asked to bring their ambitious plans to tackle climate change.

“Currently, the president is not scheduled to participate in the U.N. climate summit on Wednesday,” White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters Friday.

Biden is sending climate envoy John Kerry to represent the United States, a State Department spokesperson said Friday, but Biden’s absence is noteworthy at a forum where global leaders were invited to make sweeping climate commitments and highlight action ahead of global climate talks known as COP28 that kick off in late November.

“It’s a missed opportunity,” said Alden Meyer, a senior associate at climate think tank E3G. “To not have major leaders from developed countries there [at the U.N. summit] … it’s not a good signal when you’re trying to build momentum in the run-up to COP28 in Dubai and get other countries on board.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has secured a speaking slot, the E.U. delegation in New York confirmed.

But other leaders of some of the world’s major polluters aren’t expected to be in attendance, including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

I think it hilarious that even greens describe Kerry’s attendance in place of Biden as “a missed opportunity”. No word yet if Kerry plans to shake the hand of anyone on the DEA most wanted list at this week’s climate conference.

Regarding the climate protests, the media has made a lot of noise but I’m not sure how widespread the allegedly worldwide climate protests actually are. Apparently there is quite a presence in New York, but I haven’t exactly seen anyone in my town holding any banners.

The Guardian claims “10s of thousands” attended the New York protest, to listen to speeches by AOC, though it is difficult to judge numbers from the Guardian photos. I also looked at NPR, they also have a poor quality photo which makes it difficult to judge numbers. New York Times has a short video, but the video is strangely lacking in viewpoints which would allow us to be impressed by the 10s of thousands of marchers. Judge for yourself.

Tens of thousands in NYC march against fossil fuels as AOC hails powerful message

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said the crowd must become ‘too big and too radical to ignore’ as Biden came under fire for oil projects

Dharna Noor and Aliya Uteuova in New YorkMon 18 Sep 2023 07.18 AEST

Tens of thousands of climate activists took to the streets of New York City on Sunday in a “march to end fossil fuels”, with Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez telling the crowd that the movement must become “too big and too radical to ignore”.

To cheers from the crowd, the progressive Democrat criticized the US continuing to approve fossil fuel projects, something which the Biden administration did earlier this year with the controversial Willow project in Alaska.

“We are all here for one reason: to end fossil fuels around the planet,” Ocasio-Cortez told a rally at the finish of the march, which ended close to the UN headquarters where world leaders will gather this week. “And the way we create urgency is to have people around the world in the streets.”

The Guardian picture of AOC speaking at the climate protest shows AOC wearing what appears to be mostly fossil fuel based synthetic clothing. But I guess it is not easy to explain to someone who thinks all her political critics want to sleep with her, that she is acting like an ignorant green hypocrite.

“Tens of thousands” is NYT-ese for “several hundred”, if my money’s any good. Just not seeing enough people to fill Yankee Stadium in these images. But maybe the crowd was so dense, shoulder to shoulder, that cameramen couldn’t even turn around to take more panoramic shots. Yeah, that’s the ticket…

That boy (I assume) is holding an obviously commercially produced sign, probably paid for in some manner by taxpayers. The sign is either paper coated with polydicyclopentadiene (derived from petroleum) or it is completely polypropylene (also derived from petroleum). Of course the ink used is largely derived from petroleum too.

Anyway my sign would add a couple of words. “End fossil fuels, burn them.”

Yes, bnice2000 has a good list below. Many people would be in for a big hurt without KY Jelly or Vaseline.

I would note that KY’s glycerine is mostly derived from the saponification of animal fats or vegetable oils. It’s inexpensive and widely available from production of biodiesel.

The thousands of young fossil fuel freaks aren’t really in the streets to end global warming. They’re there to meet others, go drink some wine and blow some weed and maybe cuddle up for awhile. Simply walking up to a stranger in NYC and prattling won’t get you anywhere but if you’re part of a demonstration you automatically have enough in common to establish some kind of a relationship.

So Kiddies.

You stop fossil fuels.

THEN WHAT.

No mobile phones.

No communications. (infrastructure cannot be maintained.)

No food delivered to stores.

No cars of any sort, because they can’t be made.

No transport…. roads, rails etc

No air-conditioners,

No clothes, shoes… guy at the front… no glasses.

No paper or ink for signs unless you can find papyrus and coloured minerals to make them.

No more houses. (you will have to hunt for caves)

Sorry little children, but…

basically EVERYTHING in your tiny little existence, is there because of access to fossil fuels.

So tell me, other than a determined intention to deny obvious reality, how does it make sense for Simple Simon to deny that Joe Bribem didn’t personally benefit from quid pro quo bribes?

Not one of the nine Biden Crime Family members have any discernible business skills. They pulled in at least $20,000,000 just by random chance? Why would a collection of Chinese, Ukrainian, Russian, Romanian, Kazakh, etc. nationals shower cash through a series of shell corporations on a family in Delaware? Is there even an implausible explanation?

‘Personally benefit’ is the key you say? Let’s use our heads as more than hat racks. Say that you are 71 years old as Dementia Joe was in 2014, with an actuarial expected lifetime of what, 82? All of your financial needs are covered by government pensions, with all sorts of perks like secret service protections.

Apart from that, you’ve already managed to launder plenty of bribes from your time in the Senate. You’re independently wealthy, and the statute of limitations has expired. Whatever you ‘earn’ from the latest bribes would just be inherited by your family in a few years—maybe tomorrow, on the outside maybe in 25 years.

You can’t make use of the money for your own gratification, partly because you’re already set for life, partly because you can’t admit being bribed. But having it go DIRECTLY to your heirs, you get the only conceivable personal benefit which is to accrue the thanks and esteem of your family members who enjoy the money while you are alive to see them do so, and not yet so addled that you are unable to comprehend their appreciation.

Having the money go to the heirs without passing through your bank account also serves to avoid any direct connection to the bribe. That scheme (and the many complex shell corporations) is not exculpatory, but rather is proof of awareness of guilt. It is evidence of a cover-up.

Biden is in New York until Wednesday, having begged the U.N. for international support for NATO attacker Ukraine. Two coherent speeches in a week would require too high a dosage, even at his tolerance level. Best have Kerry continue to tap dance for him, and for Iran. At that level of prevarication, they’re interchangeable.

quote“”AOC wearing what appears to be mostly fossil fuel based synthetic clothing.

Nah – she’s wearing something vastly worse = the thing that destroys farmland, causes soil erosion (sea level rise), creates heat-domes and thus tornadoes, torrential random thunderstorms, flash floods, dust bowls and ultimately: irreparable desert.

She’s wearing cotton – at my guess = a denim jacket and cotton T-shirt or tank-top underneath.
So is her boyfriend at a guess = what looks like white cotton socks inside his sandals.
Certainly in UK/Europe = The Biggest Fashion Faux Pas any boy could commit

Cotton being second only to tobacco, cotton is the hungriest and most destructive plant us humans cultivate.
In joint third place as invasive soil-destroying weeds are tomatoes and sugar (cane and or beet)

Those are the things to be worried about.

Have you ever tried to removed the seeds from cotton? The cotton-gin was a great invention. It makes removing those seeds a non-problem. And Eli Whitney invented it by watching a fox trying to pull a dead chicken through a fence and only getting feathers.

leaders of some of the world’s major polluters aren’t expected to be in attendance, including British Prime Minister

That is laugh-out-loud funny. Britain is not a major “polluter”. Britain is an inconsequential player in CO₂ emissions. Britain’s inflated estimation of its importance far too often leads it to make stupid stands and stupid decisions. Stop encouraging it E&E News.

Britain needs to take a breath, watch what the big boys do, and if something works for them adopt the solutions they perfected. Premature adopters will end up under the unicorn bus. (Remember when the government sent us all a compact fluorescent light bulb in the post? That’s how good the government is at picking winners.)

The news this morning is that Rishi Sunak might just be coming to his senses—and not going to climate summits is a tangible start.

Fun fact: in the last eight years China emitted more CO₂ than the UK has emitted since the start of the industrial revolution.

The UK is nowhere close to being one of “the world’s major polluters” (or “big boys”, as I put it).

The fact that the pictures fail to verify these supposedly overflow crowds and the fact that Joe Biden didn’t bother to show up are indications that that the hot air in the climate alarmist blimp is not only cooling but also escaping. And with Rishi Sunak and Xi Jinping also taking a pass on the affair, we are seeing further evidence that these gatherings are becoming increasingly irrelevant. This won’t stop the usual hangers-on and freeloaders from running to COP-28 however; nor will it stop them from earning the usual horse laugh from the majority of the population who’ve seen through their hypocrisy for years now.
