Secretary of the Army Christine E. Wormuth: “A priority for me and our @USArmy is #resiliency in the face of climate change. At #FortBragg, we have the largest floating solar array in the Southeast United States. This is just one of many examples of how our Army #LeadsFromTheFront in climate innovation and adaptation.”

Via Red State: The US Army is a barking shambles. In Fiscal Year 2022, the Army missed its recruiting goal by 15,000 soldiers or 25% of its goal (Military Recruiting Numbers Lowest Since the Vietnam War). At the end of the fiscal year, the Army was supposed to have 485,000 soldiers, but it only had 466,000. That shortfall of 19,000 soldiers is the equivalent of disbanding five of the Army’s 31 brigade combat teams. While we can quantify the number of soldiers not enlisted, what is much more difficult is to put a number on those who have voted with their feet because of Army leadership that has become highly politicized and the men — fathers, teachers, coaches, and family members — who will actively discourage young men from enlisting because the Army no longer represents American values (Army Backs off Enlisting High School Drop Outs but the Woke Cancer Killing Enlistments Remains Stronger Than Ever).
#
Via Military.com: The 50-page plan, which is an extension of the service’s overall Army Climate Strategy released earlier this year, offers a series of ambitious goals to meet Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s 2021 call to “immediately take appropriate policy actions to prioritize climate change considerations” as the Pentagon points to several instances of climate change-related events that have affected the services.
The Climate Strategy Implementation Plan said: “While the Army cannot address all or even most GHG emissions, the right initiatives, investments, and policies can significantly reduce Army GHG emissions while at the same time enhancing readiness.” … The Army is looking to further reduce that consumption, while battening down the hatches for the damage climate change will likely bring. …
“As extreme weather becomes commonplace, the Army must adapt its installations, acquisition programs, and training so that the Army can operate in this changing environment and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions,” said Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth in a Wednesday press release.

The most God-awful administration of my lifetime.
Realistically speaking though, this wouldn’t mean EV Tanks, EV Hummers, or EV A-10s on the battlefields (that would be ludicrous). It would mean no Gasoline or Diesel fuel for anyone but the military.
It’s all virtue signalling. Combat commanders are not going into battle powered by solar panels.
Democrats don’t have a clue about national defense, and that is especially the case when Joe Biden is in charge. Ask the people of South Vietnam and Iraq and Afghanistan about Joe Biden. Biden has been a disaster ever since he set foot on the political stage.
Oh, he’s been a disaster FAR, FAR longer than that! Just ask Obama!
Ditto. What a bunch of screw-ups.
Clearly you have no memory past three years.
Clearly you have a delusional view of the Trump years.
So Tom…. have you read what Tucker Carlson said about Trump?
“We are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights,” Carlson said in a text on 4 January 2021, two days before the riot. “I truly can’t wait.”
“I hate him passionately … What he’s good at is destroying things. He’s the undisputed world champion of that. He could easily destroy us if we play it wrong.”
So once again we see people close to him appalled by and detesting the man. “Good at destroying things” Does that sound like a person who is a good leader to you?
Tucker is welcome to his opinion. Perhaps you have read some of my other posts where I don’t agree with Tucker on all occasions. Oh, that’s right, you have noticed, as you remarked that you favored my position on Ukraine as opposed to Tucker’s position which is to cut and run from the battle.
Trump *is* a good leader and that is not changed just because he lacks the social graces that some people, like Tucker, require. I just require good results from the decision-making of a leader and Trump supplies that at every turn.
My advice for Trump is not to personally trash any of his Republcan opponents, like he has done in the past. Trump doesn’t need to trash anyone. He can run on his superior record of accomplishments.
Then when Trump wins the Republican nomination, he can pick Ron DeSantis as his vice president and then even Tucker Carlson will have to vote for him.
Trump and DeSantis are an unbeatable combination, imo.
“Oh, that’s right, you have noticed, as you remarked that you favored my position on Ukraine as opposed to Tucker’s position which is to cut and run from the battle.” True we do agree on this. And some other things.
“Then when Trump wins the Republican nomination, he can pick Ron DeSantis as his vice president and then even Tucker Carlson will have to vote for him.”
From what I have read he is lining up Kari Lake or maybe even MTG.
“The most God-awful administration of my lifetime.”
Without a doubt.
I’m thinking they are the worst administration in U.S. history. I can’t think of any president who has been more damaging to the United States than the Traifficer-in-Chief, Joe Biden. He’s a walking disaster for the United States and the world.
Polls say more than 50 percent of Democrats do not want Biden to run for a second term, and 70 percent of Americans say the country is on the WRONG track. Yes, it most certainly is and this won’t be fixed until Republicans get control of the White House.
And yet Biden (as I have said I am no big fan) still has a popularity higher on average than Trumps was.
https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/biden-approval-rating/
The latest poll I saw mentioned shows Trump ahead of both Ron DeSantis for the Republican nomination, and ahead of Joe Biden for the presidential race.
If Trump picks DeSantis for vice president, then Biden is definitely toast, imo.
If you are right and Trump picks DeSantis I will be shocked. And…. I will bow to your knowledge for evermore. But I don’t think there is a chance. Both are driven men who want/need to be top dog. Playing second fiddle would be too much.
I suspect he’ll pick a woman. I think that if he gets in the WH again, who he picks, and can get confirmed as AG and heads of the FBI, CIA, etc is perhaps even more important.
This is equally true of all the rest of the West’s leaders. Even given Biden’s obvious reduced mental capabilities, he seems no worse than his European and Brit Commonwealth colleagues.
Yes, they are all dumber than rocks.
Floating on what? Oil, Water, brine? Even water generally dries and leaves a deposit.
My question also. I lived at Fort Bragg for years, and can tell you it is a hot dry place in the summer especially, except for the daily brief thunderstorms. I would expect my dad, a career infantry officer, is flipping in his grave.
On the other hand, you could always stick solar arrays on the drop zones–they are wide open and sort of flat. A woke army probably doesn’t jump much anyway.
They’re still jumping. And BTW DZs, especially the larger ones, are frequently used as LZs also.
I am sure they could spare a drop zone or two, and who knows–maybe jumping around solar panels and avoiding the obstacles would be a good training exercise. The alternative to that is just jumping when you don’t land on the drop zone.
Here in Kansas City, they want to put the solar panels along the runways and taxiways, so the new expensive airport can be fully powered by renewable sources So what’s not to love about the plan.
Ha! Sicily DZ is like a big sandbox and it needs to be when they dump C-17 loads of troopers on it.
Besides, you make enough jumps and you’re gonna end up dealing with enough.
In my time, trees multiple times, German cows, an Italian pig farm, steel posts in a German vineyard, a lake, deep hard frozen ruts from tracked vehicles, and last but not least, snow so deep it buried me on landing.
I remember Sicily DZ. They used C-130s to do low level drops of equipment–about 6 feet off the dirt runway, and shove the load out the back of the place. That runway was hard as concrete. The rest of it was sand and scrub pine. I once found myself in the middle of a misplaced drop on horseback, off to the south of the main DZ. The horses took it in stride–not so sure about the troopers. All that said, the DZ was a better landing place than most places in Europe.
Your talking about LAPES and probably saw it demonstrated at one of the annual Fire Power demonstrations at Ft. Bragg.

Will those heavy armored tanks be hybrid or straight EV ? I reckon that’s the end of the M1 Abrams tanks for a start … the despots will be loving that idea.
M1 Abrams – Wikipedia
Tanks are soooo yesteryear, dear! Will you ride around in a clunky lump of iron, knowing that even the most backwards nation on earth carries handheld rockets that can incinerate you inside your tin coffin?
The reason everyone want to send tanks to Ukraine is because it is their last chance to sell the useless scrap off to the only government that still hunts down civilians with battle gear.
We live in a time of autonomous drones and attack swarms, tanks are only good against unarmed children. Like in Donetsk?
I remember when the Air Force thought the age of putting guns on fighters was over.
The problem with what is happening is not that tanks are outdated. It is the deployment without supporting infantry and other elements.
The Panzerfaust should have had Hitler win the war according to your thinking.
PanzerFausts were often sabotaged by the slave labour used to build them
But even had they been a sight more reliable they would have still made little difference. There’s no putting down an assault by co-ordinated Tank,Infantry, Artillery and air, unless you have heavy metal to fight back with…
And all the tanks and equipment the west is sending to the Ukraine will not make a difference in the ultimate outcome unless it can be integrated into a coordinated combined arms force.
And creating such a force takes more than a few months. And thus the ultimate outcome is that Ukraine loses, if for no other reason than the brute force of numbers that Russia can deploy.
Well, Putin is starting to mount renewed attacks on Ukraine. He may make some initial advances, but the experts I listen to (Gen. Jack Keane) say the attacks will eventually fail.
Putin’s army is hurting. All they have is numbers, but numbers don’t always win the battle. The Chinese used to launch human wave attacks on American GI’s in Korea, but all that did was get a bunch of Chinese soldiers killed. The U.S. Marines said as long as they had ammunition for their Quad-50’s, they would mow the oncoming Chinese troops down like wheat.
Putin’s troops are not that enthusiastic about going into battle. That attitude invites defeat. The Ukrainians troops are highly motivated to defend their nation and their success against Putin over the last year only gives them more confidence.
All else being equal, psychology/determination ultimately wins or loses the battle. This is a distinct advantage for the Ukrainians.
I listen to different experts apparently.
You mean you have never listened to Gen. Jack Keane report on the Ukraine war? Don’t watch Fox News? He’s on there just about every day giving the latest updates on the Ukraine war.
Fox is as guilty as the rest of them in pumping out the propaganda on that conflict and on many other issues.
It is like the old South all over again. They claimed Shiloh a victory. The Richmond papers declared Lee had won a major victory the day before he evacuated the defenses of Richmond. Not once during the war did they even come close to accurate reporting of Confederate losses. For every battle they, and many northern newspapers, minimized both the number of Confederate forces engaged and their casualties.
“The Ukrainians troops are highly motivated to defend their nation and their success against Putin over the last year only gives them more confidence.”
Perhaps the ones that are still alive! Did any of your experts talk about the Ukranian casualty rate or count?
Well, I don’t recall Gen. Keane naming a casualty figure for the Ukriane military, but he did say Putin has lost about 100,000 Russian troops killed. Multiply by two to get the number of wounded.
So are you favoring Putin in this contest?
As I have stated before. I favor neither side. Both are despotic. But the propaganda here is all building towards trying to justify sending US troops to fight, and I am totally against that, as I am against the massive drain of US arms and funds to continue to prop up this crap.
Meanwhile China is benefiting.
So… uh… how did these boldly painted products of imagination coincide with observations this far? Just as anti-offtopic.
Why a junta that:
⁃ needed a massive bloody provocation to install…
⁃ hunted down all the opposition to stay in power…
⁃ was puppet of a foreign power from the very start (as yet another “color revolution“) and did not even bother to put a fig leaf over this…
⁃ has as the figurehead a mediocre comedian, who spent much time abroad when tanks rolled, and is so hopelessly out of his depth that he apparently suffered delusion episodes (dat ghost and every wunderwaffe not invented by Guardian)…
…would have this kind of advantages? It’s extremely unclear, please clarify. :]
You seem to be well-versed in the Putin propaganda.
Do you really believe all that bullshit?
«Everyone Who Posts Something Contradicting to Washington Compost drivel is Literally TrumPutLer!» IDK, try adult discussion after you outgrow Tumblr?

Not to worry. The interior of the Abrams is climate-controlled.
The real existential threat is to bad guys within effective targeting range.
Not true
No A/C for the crew
Some thermal control only for electronics inside.
First off the M1 has ALWAYS had heat.
Secondly,, the newest version, the M1A2 SEP does have A/C.
WRONG AGAIN
I said the tanks do not have A/C — they always have had heat
The M1A2 SEP has thermal management ONLY for the electronics, NOT A/C for the enture tank interior.
Now I’ve said it twice, so please listen.
The A/C while installed for the electronics does cool the crew compartment and so the answer is YES the M1A2 SEP versions have A/C that does cool the crew compartment.
In earlier versions when it got too hot they would use the NBC over pressure system which puts out cooler than ambient air that can directed with the hoses.
Information available online says the A/C is only to cool the electronics. That might make the interior slightly cooler than it would otherwise be with the heat of all the electronics. There is no indication that the entire interior is air conditioned or kept cool in any other way.

“Is the M1A2 Abrams air conditioned?
“The M1A1 is not. The M1A2 (SEP) has an air conditioning system of a sort – it’s main purpose is to keep the electronics from over heating. The M1A1 does have a system of cooling vests, which we never used but I understand they are have only a limited effectiveness. Temps inside pretty much any armored vehicle can easily exceed 100F in hot weather.”

Still much better than the old tanks. It is not getting up to 130 deg. F in the newer models as it did in the older ones.
Okay
I consider 80 degrees hot if fully dressed, so what do i know about hear?
It is a relative thing I reckon. I have been shirtless in near 0 degree F weather on a glacier and glad of it. That is until later when the wind and sunburn got me.

Deliberately deceptive editing in your comment.
If it is hot outside the tank, it is hot inside the tank. Not as hot as in older tanks, but still HOT. Crews are wearing heavy clothing, body armor and helmets.
It is deceptive to call the latest tank cooling system “air conditioning” because it does not accomplish a temperature reduction that in any way resembles air conditioning in a home or in a passenger car.

“Short answer is: NO!
Long answer is: Sort of.
The M1A1 and A2’s have an NBC defense system that takes huge amounts of bleed air from the turbine engine (one advantage of having the turbine) filter, cool and decompress it the blow it into the crew compartment. The system replaced the left sponson box. The cool air came out hoses that were supposed to be attached to your promask. The system added a splitter that allowed a second hose to be attached to a ventilation vest that crews wore under their uniform. The system would keep you alive when the interior temp of the tank get over 125 f but it was VERY noisy, would usually keep your pro-mask partly blowing off your face, required the engine to be run at a high idle using even more fuel and you had to have all the hatches closed before turning it on or the extra high air pressure would keep you from closing the last hatch. (if the breech was closed) So, if you can imagine using this system in your car and calling it air conditioning, then yes it has AC. If not, then, no, no AC”

In the years I’ve made comment here, I admit that I’ve sometimes made comments that were factually wrong. (I once made a comment that the “Daddy Long Legs” had the most potent venom. I thought that was true. Someone on WUWT corrected me. I learned something)
I’ve made comments that people disagreed with.
But I can honestly say that I’ve never made a comment where I was being “Deliberately deceptive”.
Mistaken maybe, But never an attempt to deceive.
(I think even Nick Stokes and Steve Mosher would agree with that.)
The Chinese already had secret drone blanket countermeasures to drop onto the solar panels according to Fieldmarshal Yi President Xi’s nephew. When Colonel Chan (no relation) queried why on earth they would want to capture the solar tanks alive to copy them as they ran on Chinese solar panels and batteries anyway he was disappeared to a Tibetan reeducation camp. Thus did WW3 and the battle for supremacy rage on….
My money’s on the Russians.
That’s looking like a pretty bad bet. I’d get odds first.
Your the one that really needs to be paying attention. Wishful thinking and western propaganda does not bring results on the battlefield.
It is the Russians that are advancing.
“It is the Russians that are advancing.”
Just to put that into some perspective one year into the conflict. In 1940 the Wehrmacht defeated the British and French armies and then occupied France in under a month.
The Russian advance is not exactly lightning fast, is it? It’s the product of a deliberate war of attrition – just enough to keep some kind of balance.
The Russians were expecting to take Kyiv in a matter of days or weeks, welcomed as liberators, with the whole country falling shortly after.
They are using the tactics of Zhukov.
One advantage to that is when they take over the reserve of military aged people able to set up a clandestine resistance is already dead.
It was an advantage against a rag tag retreating enemy
Last time I commented on this conflict I said the Russians would be pushing on an offensive this winter and was told no it was the Ukrainians that would be taking the offensive.
Now the line is “but their retreat is slow”.
The “clandestine resistance” is nonsense. The meme of “plucky rebels who somehow go on” is but Hollywood propaganda from the age of National Liberation Whatevers. In the real world, “professionals talk logistics”. And logistically, the partisans / isolated irregulars of any sort are viable if and only if:
A. The local power is too weak to stop looting (i.e. in conditions of an unfinished civil war or tenuously overstretched foreign occupation). And/or
B. They are supported by an outside power.
Even then, it’s hard unless the locals support or at least tolerate them. Which does not seem likely in this case.
While obviously there is willing external support, it can be cut off if the locals pay attention. Any next regime in Kiev (whether given pretend-sovereignty again or not) will make “locate, isolate and root out USA sponsored terrorists” one of its top priorities. Out of self-preservation. Unless they will be very stupid about it, this will not be unpopular. They already had one color revolution and know better now. Obviously, the neighbors at North/East/South will actively support this, too.
I guess then your opinion is that my 11 years as an Army SF soldier was lived in a fantasy land.
At the top of the list of missions for US Army Special Forces is UW! It was the mission for which it was originally created!
Special Forces (Green Berets) units perform seven missions – unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, special reconnaissance, direct action, combating terrorism, and counter-proliferation. These missions make Special Forces unique because they are employed in peacetime, conflict and war. The Special Forces motto is “De Oppresso Liber – to Free the Oppressed.”

The Russians made no attempt to take Kiev, ever.
They only halted military planes from taking off from the airport outside of Kiev. No Kiev infrastructure was harmed in the first six months.

The Russians made no attempt to take Kiev, ever.
“…in Bucha, just outside Kyiv, 67-year-old Volodymyr Scherbynyn was standing outside his local supermarket when more than a hundred Russian military vehicles rolled into town. Both Volodymyr and the satellite were witnesses to a key part of President Vladimir Putin’s plan for a quick and overwhelming victory. They were also witnesses to its failure.”
How Russia’s 35-mile armoured convoy ended in failure
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-64664944
It was the biggest sitting duck since the Gulf war
The Russian convoy may have been used to intimidate but it never entered the city of Kiev and never fired a shot into the city … only used gain control of the airport OUTSIDE the city.
We have no idea what Putin was attempting to do because he never told anyone. It is obvious that the Russians had disabled the Ukrainian air force or their 40 mile-long convoy would have been a sitting duck, which it WAS NOT..
To control the Donbas region and hold it, Russia had to target Ukranian military bases outside of Donbas. They completely avoided civilian infrastructure for the first six months.
There has not been an attempt by Russia to capture and hold on to more than the Donbas region, except for some land north of Crimea that was a temporary buffer zone.
The failure of the US and UK to help Ukraine hold on to Crimea in 2014 gave Russians the idea Donbas could be taken similarly. The Russians most likely never realized they would be fighting against new US weapons with US satellites used to spot Russian targets.
Russia will not give up Donbas.
And Ukraine, unfortunately, seems to not recognize that they have lost the region, or why. Which I will not explain here, because that explanation seems to get my comments deleted.
We know from Afghanistan that a war can continue for a long time before the loser — the US in Afghanistan — admits to the loss.
So the killing in Ukraine continues. Ukraine can lob missiles at Russians in Crimea and Donbas as long as they get missiles to shoot. How that will benefit Ukraine escapes e.
The human losses are huge for Ukraine and those for Russia are perhaps one sixth the size.
Tony Heller found information on casualties — came from Israel. They make sense to me — about 85% of those killed are Ukrainian military and up to 15% are Russian military. Plus some Ukrainian citizens caught in the Donbas crossfire.
A true leader would try to stop the carnage with a peace settlement. But Jumpin’ Joe Bidet just encourages more fighting. There is no official loss while the fighting continues, as happened in Afghanistan.
53% Ukrainian Casualties | Real Climate Science
The bbc article is propaganda.
There is no evidence that the 40 mile Russian convoy was ever intended to enter Kiev. It never entered Kiev. It did not fire at Liev. No Kiev civilian infrastructure was damaged in the first six months of the war. The convoy was intended to capture the airport, diaable it and most likely to intimidate. It failed to intimidate but did disable the airport outside of Kiev.
The Russians seized the Donbas region for a specific reason, to stop a genocide of Russian speaking Ukrainian civilians after 11,000 were murdered. Russians have no intentions of advancing anywhere else. They once held some territory north of Crimea, to protect Crimea, but gave that up because it was too hard to defend, and there was no justification for hold that territory.
No Russian advance beyond the Donbas region would be justified by the 1948 Genocide Convention. But the Russians in Donbas will not be passive sitting ducks. They can send missiles to destroy military and civilian infrastructure outside the Donbas region.
Unfortunately, Ukraine is still shelling the Donbas region, as they have since 2014. Now their excuse is that Russian soldiers are living there too, so the dead Ukrainian civilians there — beyond the first 11,000 dead — are now just collateral damage.

Ukraine either stops Putin at their border, or NATO has to stop Putin. I’m pulling for Ukraine to stop Putin, so NATO doesn’t have to, which would be a much wider conflict. Much wider.

The Russians have already accomplished what they intended to accomplish. They stopped the genocide of Russian speaking Ukrainians inside the eastern Donbas region of Ukraine. Unfortunately, eight years too late, after 11,000 Ukrainian civilians had been killed.
Every time I have tried to post this TRUE history of Ukraine at this website, a smarmy moderator has deleted my comment. Last time, Charles Rotter sent me an e-mail asking me to inform him if I have been censored yet again. He claimed some moderators were over zealous. I have been censored more at this website in the past six months than at any other website since 1996.
The history of Ukraine should not be censored. Russia may regret their actions because they now have a proxy war against US weapons, but there was a logical reason for them entering eastern Ukraine. The invasion was legal, per the 1948 Genocide Convention, which requires signers, such as the US and Russia, to stop genocides anywhere in the world, by any means necessary. Russia is the first nation to act since 1948.

“They stopped the genocide of Russian speaking Ukrainians inside the eastern Donbas region of Ukraine.”
Funny thing is, Richard, that Stalin purged many in Ukraine and when he shuffled off as a reward Kruschev handed Crimea over from the Russian Soviet to the Ukraine Soviet in 1954.
It didn’t go down well at the time and it still reverberates today. History predates 2014
And in 1954 nobody thought the USSR would come to an early end.
The best known Russian speaking Ukrainian is President Zelensky.
But Zelensky is anti-Russia no matter what langage he speaks and ramped up indiscriminate shelling of his own Donbas region in February 2022 just before Russia acted.
Stalin and the USSR had nothing to do with the Ukranian military killing 11,000 Ukrainian civilians in eastern Ukraine from 2014 to 2022.
Stalin and the USSR killed estimated 3 million of Ukrainian civilians by starving them to death. Google Holodomor. That was in 1933, but Ukraine has not forgotten. Did you?
How can you possibly blame a Ukrainian genocide of 11,000 Russian speaking Ukrainians in Eastern Ukraine, from 2014 to 2022, on events in 1933?
About one third of Ukrainians living in the Donbas region wanted to vote for independence from a very corrupt Kiev government.
They would have lost that vote 2 to 1, but no vote was ever allowed.
The demand for a vote was met with 8 years of artillery shelling and snipers killing 11,000 Ukrainian civilians INSIDE UKRAINE.
The US, UK and Russia watched the slaughter and did nothing for eight years. Russia acted eight years too late and probably regrets their attempt to end the genocide.
“How can you possibly blame a Ukrainian genocide of 11,000 Russian speaking Ukrainians in Eastern Ukraine, from 2014 to 2022, on events in 1933?”
The events of 1933 are not relevant to today, granted.
Now prove that there was a genocide perpetrated by Zelinsky and the Ukrainians.
Every time I ask for evidence of this, I either get silence, or the Putin supporters cite one newspaper article making this claim.
Do you have more than one newspaper article making this genocide claim?
Please provide all evidence supporting this claim.
I understand that about 80 percent had voted for the pro positive Russian relations president in 2014.
While the rest of Soviet Union… uh… enjoyed the glory that is Communism! Just evilly denied it to poor Ukrainians. Collectively as a hive mind, no names need to be named other than Stalin. Speaking of whom, everything the Trotskyites did was Stalin.
Uh-huh. Yes, everyone with internet connection knows the modern socialist BS well. And everyone with a shred of interest in a given issue knows it’s pure undiluted BS, too.
Did you know that as Hitler’s power crumbled and Stalin’s forces approached it was Ukrainian Nazis that started hunting down what Jews were left and executing them? It was so bad the Swedish ambassador issued 100s of false proofs of Swedish citizenship to try and protect them.
How on Earth could Stalin have nothing to do with it?
Stalin and Alger Hiss invented Ukraine as a “country”. The point was that Stalin gets one extra vote in UN for each province. Now Stalin is long dead, but State Department unfortunately isn’t, and it maintains the fiction, now for other reasons.

I’ll try a list of links again:
Wikipedia is leftist-biased, and leftists are pro-Ukraine, so this is NOT a pro-Russia source:
Wikipedia will not call 11,000 civilian deaths in eastern Ukraine a genocide. But when a well-armed military kills poorly armed civilians who oppose the central government in Kiev and want independence, for eight years, I call that a genocide. You may disagree.
My most important point is there are no winners in Ukraine and there will be no winners. A good leader would try to stop the carnage. I am waiting for such a leader to emerge. Joe Bidet is not one. Zelensky is not one. And Putin is not one.

Prove this happened.
You whole argument depends on this. This is what you use to justify your position favoring Putin.
I guess we just hope the enemy doesn’t attack on a cloudy day or at night.
Did we not talk the other day about people who repost tweets, but first retype it, then again retype it after the tweet picture? This one does it four times!
But then, seeing as it is about nothing, four times nothing makes one whole nothing.
Frankly, posts like these give me hope. The Yanks have called my country “extremist” three times the last month, for no reason. Thank goodness, when they attack, we won’t have to fight real men. Or any men at all, I guess…
How is Baal Gates doing with his GMO battleground assets? They will look just like people, you know.
How about good air conditioning inside for climate change?
Advanced modern tanks like the Abrams don’t have air conditioning for the crew. (Though the latest model has a “Thermal Management System” to keep the computers cool in the desert.
This is what happens when a leftist is in charge of anything — they ruin everything they touch. A woman who knows nothing about tanks.
My father in law was an engineer who tested tanks at the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, Michigan. The interiors were always a hazardous environment for the crew during a battle, so he consistently pushed for improved crew safety.
But no one suggested filling the interior with pillows, which will probably be the next “improvement”, along with a rainbow pait scheme outside instead of camouflage, to satisfy gay crew members. And maybe doilies inside, and a nice color scheme, to make the female tank crew members happy.? I’d vote for a good audio system with subwoofers.
Solar panels would be broken with AK47 gunfire.

Next up one bathroom on board:

i CAN’T IMAGINE WHY A WOMAN WOULD WANT SUCH A JOB
There are plenty of female truck drivers and unless you’ve got a super sleeper you don’t have a bathroom.
How women do it, don’t know, don’t really care, but this trucker uses a pee bottle and I suspect female drivers have a 5 gallon bucket with a toilet seat on it.
Tankers do the same, and if they have to be buttoned up for a long time they will use an old MRE box with a plastic bag in it for #2.
I should have said I don’t know why anyone would want a tank job — they seem very vulnerable with modern weapons.
Not much more vulnerable now than they were in WWII.
I mean would could easily say the same thing about Infantry.
Tracked with satellites, and destroyed with drones, seems to make tanks more vulnerable than in the past.
Russia must regret sending tanks into Ukraine because a huge number of them were destroyed.
They should be regretting not deploying as a highly integrated combined arms force commanded by competent and well trained officers.
I am curious as to where did you get “a huge number of them were destroyed”?
The Oryx photo collection? That’s not serious. I mean, can you tell a Russian T-72B from an Ukrainian T-72B at a glance, and then filter out photographs of the same tank from different sides?
That’s assuming all those are actually relevant and nobody pulled a fast one (using tanks abandoned somewhere else at some other time). After the “OrangeManBad put childern in cages!!1” with photo from 2014 and now “Ghost of Kyiv” nonsense… well, it’s not impossible, of course, just extremely unlikely.
There are no reliable sources. Only analysis of how different sources fit.
Christine Wormuth, degrees in Public Policy and Public Relations, first appointed into the Defense Department by President Barack Obama, now as Secretary of the Army by Joe Biden. Never wore a uniform and thinks guns are “icky” (OK, I’m guessing at that last one). Our Army is now fully engaged in the fight against Climate Change. Results? Nothing other than billions of dollars in the toilet, much to the amusement of our enemies. Climate Change is going to win this “war”.
Thankfully I am retired. This mindset is going to end badly. The Army missed its recruitment goal. I wonder if the Secretary of the Army realizes that readiness is suffering and no matter what technology hardware or software you have requires training and able bodied soldiers to operate effectively. I question our armed forces ability to fight and fight effectively nowadays. The armed forces woke policies are going to undermine readiness and when all those selective service enrollees get the call-up and realize what, now is at stake they will be rather flummoxed.
They are going to try and reinstitute the draft and if they manage to do so, I reckon it is going to be a disaster and make the draft riots and resistance of the 60s, look like small potatoes.
No matter if you think it was justified or not, during the history of this country the only Republican Administration to institute conscription was Lincoln’s. Every other time it has been Democrats:
WW I- Wilson
WW II- FDR
Korea – Truman
Vietnam – LBJ.
I believe there was a draft all through the 1950s and into the early 60s. Both my uncles served in that peacetime, something I doubt they would have done if not compelled. The difference was that you went to training, a brief assignment and then discharge to the reserves. LBJ pretty much stopped the discharge to the reserves and compelled a two year term with the Vietnam War.
The whole purpose of the woke and vaccine requirements in the military is to deplete the ranks to “require” a draft to meet the minimum requirement.
The Dems want yet another reason to divide the country rich against poor by allowing deferments, etc.
As Secretary of the Army Wormuth will be able to take down in shorthand the failure of the Army’s priorities on the battlefield.
https://nailheadtom.blogspot.com/2022/02/an-electric-army.html
At least we actually got a toilet in the much-hyped, over-reported stories on over-priced toilets procured by the Pentagon in the 80s. In this era, it only gets you positioning green statements and press releases.
“Our Army is now fully engaged in the fight against Climate Change. Results? Nothing other than billions of dollars in the toilet, much to the amusement of our enemies.”
Exactly!
The difference between Nato forces and any others is Nato troops can have a good cry when someone gets their pronouns wrong.
In a real war situation all this woke crap will fall by the wayside – quite rightly. As for battlefield EVs. Yeah, right.
“As for battlefield EVs. Yeah, right.”
My sentiment exactly.
What the left has done to our military almost makes me physically ill.
Wokeness and emphasis on anything and everything but winning a war and defending this country is destroying what was the most effective combat force on earth.
In the UK all the parties are on the left to varying degrees, but the centre ground has definitely shifted to the left. Hence opposing London’s ULEZ makes you a far right NSDAP supporting type who wants to see children die etc
Currently, if a foreign power took the Isle of Wight, we wouldn’t be able to take it back – short of nuking it.
“short of nuking it.”
Yeah, it’s not a good idea to put yourself in a position where your only option is to use nuclear weapons.
That’s one value of a strong conventional force. You can use that force instead of nuking your opponents, which is not good for anyone, friend or foe.
Democrats don’t get it. They are incapable of defending the United States. They have proven it over and over again. Now, they are in charge again, and they are proving it again.
The US military has often had the problem of leaders who don’t seem to want to win a war, as in Vietnam, Afghanistan and the first Iraq war.
In the second Iraq war they wanted to win but had to lie about weapons of mass destruction to justify what turned out to be a genocide of Iraqis who had no weapons of mass destruction, and nothing to do with the 9/11 attack. It was regime change genocide.
“In the second Iraq war they wanted to win but had to lie about weapons of mass destruction to justify what turned out to be a genocide of Iraqis who had no weapons of mass destruction, and nothing to do with the 9/11 attack. It was regime change genocide.”
Your opinion is noted.
“The US military has often had the problem of leaders who don’t seem to want to win a war, as in Vietnam, Afghanistan and the first Iraq war.”
I hope you are not talking about the military leaders. The military leaders don’t have a problem with winning a war. The military leadership is eager to win a war.
It is the civilian leadership that misuses the U.S. military by restricting what the U.S. mililtary can do. These restrictions necessarily prolong wars and increase casualties.
But civilian leaders don’t look at it that way. They look at is as: “What is the minimum I can do and not get in political trouble”. Doing “the minimum” in battle is a very bad idea. Military leaders would not do the minimum voluntarily. They would go all-out to win the battle and the war as quickly as possible. The only thing that holds them back is civilian “leadership”.
Next time President Zelensky comes calling asking for yet more weapons, offer him some of your “floating solar arrays”. That’s what he really needs because, apparently, the real war that Ukraine is fighting is not with Russia but with the climate emergency.
A couple stories about the M1
I was attending SF medical OJT at Ireland Army Hospital at Ft. Knox, KY shortly after the M1 first started coming into service. Talked to a gunnery instructor. He told me that they had to cut the size of the tank and vehicular targets on the ranges 1/2 for the M1 compared to what was used for the M 60s.
Later in Germany during the annual Reforger Exercises, Germans kept getting into accidents with M1 tanks. The headlights of the M 60 were placed to the outside of the fenders and the German drivers used them as a guide to make sure they would clear the tank when heading towards them at night. The M1 headlights were placed inside the fenders.
German drivers behind an M1 found they could not tail gate like they did with the M 60s and they learned stay back. The exhaust from the gas turbine bubbled the paint and crystalized the windshields if they followed too close.
so when usa gets whupped after starting a row with china someone might be able to light a 20watt bulb?

As others have pointed out, tanks are old hat. The USA is the world leader in solar-powered missiles fitted with Net Zero warheads. No other military power gets even close to that. Surely, the USA’a future is secure.
Solar panels are easy targets.
And rightly so.
A sonic boom can shatter them.
And if the low-voltage cells are connected in series, they become more easily damaged by small-caliber rounds, shrapnel, and even rocks thrown by children.
In this link (it’s done with pictures so that even Congressmen can understand it) is the equipment scale for a US Army Armoured Brigade Combat Team (Effectively a panzer Division)
https://www.cbo.gov/sites/default/files/cbofiles/attachments/51535-breakout-figure2_1.pdf
In Desert Storm one of these had rates of Advance of 100+ miles per day.
If you calculate the energy content of the fuel each vehicle uses adjust for relative efficiency and calculate the required weight of Lithium Batteries to replace each gas tank.. Then the required solar square Metreage needed to fill it.. then what would be required to move it forward 100 miles.. It’s clear that there isn’t going to be a green army anytime soon…
How this piece of mental Masturbation made it as far as policy discussion is another matter..
It’a as true now as when first uttered… “My men can eat their belts, but my tanks have gotta have gas…”
The old adage is that the purpose of the military to to kill people and break things. You win the battle by making the other guy die for his country.
I guess now you win by climate shaming the enemy.
Imagine cluster munitions being used on solar panels
Maybe heat seeking missiles?
Or enemy children and teenagers spray paint them at night?
“A priority for me and our @USArmy …”
So where on the priority list does this crap land? Before or after:
All of the above would be at least a 100 levels above floating solar panels on my list. I’m sure the retired military talking heads that MSM is constantly interviewing could come with hundreds more urgent priorities.
This is encouraging to more aggressor countries than Dems can find on a map.
That, plus I’m quite sure will become “The Navy’s largest sinking solar array” will at least make for losing wars quickly.
This displaced ocean volume from a new ship will be realized as a rise in ocean height. However, once the boat sinks, this volume of water is no longer displaced, and this will be realized as a sea level fall. … But it will still be a higher sea level than it was before the ship was launched.
Sink ships to lower sea level will be the new green mantra !
It won’t be long now.

The U.S. Is Not Yet Ready for the Era of ‘Great Power’ ConflictSince 2018, the military has shifted to focus on China and Russia after decades fighting insurgencies, but it still faces challenges to produce weapons and come up with new ways of waging war
I don’t know about the rest of you, but this scares the hell out of me. I’ve been watching the deterioration of the military for some time now. Most of the decline takes place under democrats, but republicans are not pure.
The decline seems to be accelerating. We have the best equipment an army could ask for, the best tactics to minimize deaths, but the will to fight is now gone. Replaced with a diversity requirement, bundles of hurt feelings and emotional basket cases.
You can’t go into a battle thinking that the exhaust from your tank is causing climate change. That kind of distraction will get you killed.
Biden and his military minions are going to get a lot of young men and women killed in battle.
I hope there is ammunition left not used up in Ukraine
Me too. Nothing like going to war with no ammo or guns.
Biden knows all about being out of ammunition.
When Trump took office from the Obama-Biden administration, Trump’s Defense Secretary came to him and told him the U.S. military was critically short of ammunition.
This required Trump to increase the Defense budget by billions of dollars to make up for this shortfall.
“but the will to fight is now gone.”
I don’t think there is any evidence for that being the case.
I had the pleasure of being around a bunch of Oklahoma National Guard troops a few years ago, and I was mightily impressed with these young people. They were “Strike” as we used to say. They were fit and healthy and had the proper attitude towards things. I felt much better about our military after getting to know them.
I think their attitude is still the prevailing one in the U.S. miliary. I do think this is being erroded by the radical Democrats, but the troops know the situation can change for the better with just one election, and they love their country, so they still have a desire to defend their country if it’s necessary, and if they do have to defend their country, they will kick the ass of any opponent, just like they have always done in the past.
Uncle, er, Aunt Sam wants You! Join the Army of pregnant men who fear only cloudy days and can resist anything except concentrated tactical pronouns.
Shouldn’t that be Genderfluid Sam?
Non-binary Sam
Where are the guns on those tanks?
Don’t need them. The shine from the solar panels will blind the enemy!
Assault weapons are banned.
Not needed in the new woke military as it’s assumed the evil enemy will instantly adopt the Kamela foetal position and be immobilised or die laughing. A suitable sorry time and reparations will be made for the latter.
Years ago my SF team was set up tactically in a big piece of woods at Camp McCoy (now Ft. McCoy), WI in a position where we were to meet our commo man and his security that night. SF common men would make it a practice of moving kilometers away from the team to make coms so that if their broadcast position was fixed by RDF they were not giving the teams position away. So we were waiting for those two guys to come to the prearranged rally point where we would meet.
Suddenly a unit of mechanized infantry in M-133s came crashing through the woods right towards us. It was just a coincidence, they had no idea we were there.
Believe me, it does not take gunfire for tracked vehicles to be terrifying. It would be one thing for something like that to happen in daylight, but on a very dark night, it quickly got our undivided attention.
There was a steep draw nearby that we quickly retreated into.
That won’t be a problem in the future with solar-powered tanks and armored personnel carriers.
Generation-“V”ideo Games
BTW the M4 Shermans of WW II did not have heat. It was only slightly warmer in them than outside due to the heat coming off the air cooled engine when it was running. Later models of the Sherman were built with liquid cooled V8 engines in various configurations but I don’t think they had provisions for heating the crew compartment either.
The most famous M4 of WW II has to be Cobra King. It was a Jumbo Sherman, or IOW it had an extra armor plate added to it’s glacis and much heavier mantlet and other modifications. It was the first tank from Pattons’ 3rd Army to enter in the relief of the siege of Bastogne.
It was part of Combat Command R of the 4th Armored Division. Combat Command R was commanded by Creighton Abrams which the M1 is named after.
Cobra King went on to be lost and abandoned to the enemy as part of task force Baum in Patton’s infamous attempt to rescue American POWs, including his son-in-law.
The tank was eventually recovered and sat in a recovery yard with other wrecked tanks for some time until it wasselected as one to be set up as a Gate monument and eventually ended up as one at the Rose Barracks in Vilseck. There is sat with the wrong registration number painted on it.
For decades people had been looking for Cobra King. Finally an Army Chaplain discovered the mistake that had been made on the registration number and further investigation and inspection confirmed the tank was the famous Cobra King.
It was shipped to Ft. Knox, where volunteers restored the tank to operational condition and now stands as a display at the US Army Museum at Ft. Benning, GA.
That is a wonderful museum. See it if you can.
The Patton Museum is where it was restored. At that time it had a great assembly of historic Armored vehicles and I saw then there. Second only to the collection at the Aberdeen, where I have also visited.
In fact I got into a German MK IV tank at the Patton Museum. Being a welder I recognized the weld on the hatch was cracked and just opened it up and climbed in. It was still obvious on the inside that it had been brought from N. Africa.
Somewhere I have a picture of me standing in the hatch wearing a German Panzer officers jacket and hat. An SF troop on our team for a short time was a collector and asked me to wear the clothing so he could take the picture. I do have German blood in my veins and so have an Arian look.
The tank is a Mk V Panther that sits as a monument in the town circle at Houfalize Belgium. The tank with it’s turret blown off was laying upside down on the RR tracks at that town as it was found by the allies when they retook the town. They righted it and put the turret back on it and left it as a monument.
The tank was blown up during a heavy bombing of the town by US and RAF aircraft. Patton even quipped a poem about that night that was a take off of the song Oh Little Town of Bethlehem.
My father in law was in and around Houffalize during the Battle of the Bulge. 289th Regiment of the 75th Infantry Division. He passed away 3 years ago at the age of 94.
Condolences.
I, as others, could list some that were also “there” that are no longer “here”.
But whatever list we each could put up won’t make your lose less personal, no matter how many years ago you lost him.
(I still miss my Dad and my Uncles.)
Condolences.
Mine was too young for that war. He passed away in January. One day f his older brothers was an infantry scout wounded twice. He went into action after the battle of the bulge.
The first time he was wounded was from shrapnel from a 20mm. The second was from shrapnel from a short round of “friendly” artillery. All of my uncles from both sides of the family are gone now.
They truly were a part of the greatest generation. Forged in the Great Depression and tempered in war, they came home and built the great and prosperous nation that we were fortunate to grow up in.
Patton Museum.
My wife and did a 3 day “Road Trip”. The Patton Museum was our first destination. (The rest rest of the trip we made up as went. Visited the birth place of ‘The Bourbon Ball” candies. But I digress.)
I didn’t know that they were planning to move most of the armor to a base down south. Fortunately, they hadn’t done it yet.
(A side note. My Mom’s uncle was one of Patton’s translators. I knew him but I was just a kid. To young to realize what that meant and ask questions.
(But I did work with an Italian WW2 later. A two man crew. He told me some stuff. He ended up in Dachau. But that’s another story.)
I made a mistake. Cobra King was not restored to operational condition. The interior was so badly damaged they did not restore it. However the exterior was restored to the standard it was when the tank entered Bastogne and the 76 mm gun on it was removed and the shorter barreled 75 mm that it had when it broke through was installed.
About 15 or 20 years ago the Army made “leading transformational change” a large part of officer evaluations. It led to rejecting methods, policies, and organziational norms established from lessons learned in favor of finding something to change. Rewarding leaders for doing something different instead of doing the right thing drives good Soldiers away and reduces how many will push back against idiocy.
Change is not the same thing as progress.
With a 5-7 gallon commercial bucket for scale…
The alleged green Army is just so, underwhelming here.
Let’s see how their North Carolina floating array deals with severe thunderstorms or tornadoes with an occasional hurricane visit.
Not just storms but how about bird poop, dust and grime? Anywhere there is water there are often water birds, like geese, ducks, etc. And just because they are floating on water doesn’t mean there won’t be dust and dirt blown onto them from the land….
But yes, a tornado or hurricane and those panels will be blown into the next county!
By compare, I can’t say I’ve ever heard of a traditional power plant (in this country) ever being destroyed or even seriously damaged by any kind of storm or natural disaster.
They may not be putting all of their eggs in one basket, but these “eggs” are in a mighty fragile basket and just asking to get busted.
I see that the sign saying “No Stone Skipping Allowed” was cropped out of the picture.
I’ve skipped roof shingles on pond water. I think those solar panels will skip when they are in pieces.
(roof shingles are weighty which helps spin them and helps them skip further)
That’s barely sufficient to power my house on a sunny summer day
Maybe if they tilt the solar arrays just right they can blind the enemy and then bop them on the head with their vegan lunch snacks.
It must be climate scare week again in the Biden Admin.

I like the image of the tanks with solar panels. That got me imagining an aircraft carrier which must dedicate the entire flight deck to solar panels- well, if it didn’t have nuclear energy because of course the military will not be allowed any fossil fuels come nut zero.
I seem to recall a story when Bill Clinton was elected.
The air force did a fly over. One of the top Dems was offended that the military had a presence and said so to someone near them. The response was something along the lines that, “But now those are OUR planes.”
I suppose if by some disaster Brandon is reelected, the planes will be Wright Flyers with solar panels on their wings.
(Side note. I’m not sure if it was Bill or Hillary that insisted that the military guards at the White House NOT be in uniform.)
This is so stupid. She needs to be fired today. The first bullet fired, the first artillery round fired, the first mortar round fired what good is her worthless climate preaching then. Get rid of her and everyone else like her. The US military is there to protect us from bad guys not to be the social science laboratory for a bunch of low life activists.
A structure which is primarily designed to destroy, kill, burn and explode things also needs to be climate friendly? 🙂
This is beyond moronic.
Sorry, but the role of a nation’s armed forces to to force another nation to submit to the will of their government using either the threat or application of force.
They should obtain that force by the most effective method possible, or take a knee to another nation who is more prepared to obtain effective force.

From the article: ““As extreme weather becomes commonplace, the Army must adapt its installations, acquisition programs, and training so that the Army can operate in this changing environment and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions,” said Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth in a Wednesday press release.”
Extreme weather *is* commonplace, it has happened from the creation of the Earth, and there is NO evidence connecting extreme weather to CO2. Extreme weather is a natural phenomenon that is an integral part of stormy weather. The U.S. Army is not going to put a stop to extreme weather, no matter how hard they try. Such hubris! Such stupidity! It doesn’t take a genius to figure out there is no real connection between CO2 and Earth’s weather, extreme or otherwise, but this Army Secretary can’t figure it out.
The Army Secretary should focus on our human enemies and leave the CO2 science fiction to others. Of course, that won’t happen because she is a radical, clueless Democrat, with radical clueless bosses.
I wonder what Trump would have to say about her? If Trump is elected in 2024, I doubt he would keep her on, or any of the other lunatics trying to run our miliary right now.
The U.S. is in the weakest position it has been in since I was born and it’s all the fault of these delusional Democrats who don’t have a clue about the real world or how to operate in it. The only thing Democrats are good at is criminal activity. They are very good at that. But that doesn’t help our national defense, it harms it, as is being done now by these lunatic lefty idiots.
Bet she doesn’t know anything about the Battle of The Bulge or the Frozen Chosen, where the US forces suffered more cold injuries than those from enemy action.

The ‘tell’ here is the last clause. It points to the the real concern that taking on policy priorities outside that of defense of the nation compromises its raison d’être. It shows they know this and want to pre-empt the rightful criticism it invites.
Wokies seem unaware that these tack-on tells are windows into their witless thoughts.
I recall a few years ago when the first women passed training for one of the elite military units, I don’t remember which (the Navy Seals?), the General said that the standards weren’t lowered just for the women. He didn’t say that the standards weren’t lowered for everybody so they could pass.
