Essay by Eric Worrall
The question – why such a bedraggled, wide ranging speech?
19 September 2022
Secretary-General’s remarks at SDG Moment event
Excellencies, honoured guests, ladies and gentlemen.
Let me begin by expressing my deep sadness on the recent loss of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, whose funeral took place today.
The world bids farewell to an extraordinary leader and her lifetime of service.
It is service and action for humanity that brings us together today.
Excellencies,
We meet at a moment of great peril for our world.
Conflicts and climate catastrophe.
Mistrust and division.
Poverty, inequality and discrimination.
Rising costs of food and energy.
Unemployment and declining incomes.
Massive displacement and dislocation.
The ongoing effects of a global pandemic.
And a lack of access to finance for developing countries to recover — a crisis not seen in a generation.
Each peril is pushing the Sustainable Development Goals further out of reach.
And in the face of such perils, it is tempting to put our long-term development priorities to one side.
To leave them for a sunny day.
But development cannot wait.
The education of our children cannot wait.
Dignified jobs cannot wait.
Full equality for women and girls cannot wait.
Comprehensive health care, meaningful climate action, biodiversity protection — these cannot be left for tomorrow.
Across all of these areas, young people — and future generations — are demanding action.
We cannot let them down.
This is a definitive moment.
All of you here today — and those tuning in from around the world — give me immense hope that we can put our hands on the wheel of progress and steer a new course.
That we can rescue the Sustainable Development Goals and get back on track to building the better world that leaves no one behind.
The world has a long “to do” list.
We need finance and investment from the public and private sectors.
We need a reformed financial architecture that benefits developing countries, providing critical financing and debt relief. This is the only sustainable pathway to address the obscene inequalities that exist in every country, while ensuring that the world doesn’t slide into a recession.
Governments need to invest like never before in the health, education and wellbeing of all people — including refugees and migrants.
We need expanded universal social protection to protect people against economic shocks, while boosting job-creation — especially in the digital, care and green economies.
The Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions is one critical opportunity to reach these goals.
We must all do more to lift up women and girls in every walk of life.
And we need to save our planet — which is quite literally on fire.
This means addressing the triple planetary crisis of climate breakdown, biodiversity loss and pollution.
It means supporting the Global Biodiversity Framework to transform how we use and preserve our natural gifts for the future.
And it means moving away from our suicidal dependence on fossil fuels and jump-starting the renewable energy transition in every country — and supporting developing countries as they make this shift and adapt to the changes around them.
Above all, there can be no sustainable future without peace.
By embracing peace and tolerance — and more importantly, by living these values every day — we can move one step closer to the sustainable, equal and just world that every person deserves.
My friends,
The task before us is immense.
And young people are demanding action — not only for themselves, but for the generations of the future.
The perils we face are no match for a world united.
Let’s get to work.
Let’s get our world back on track.
Thank you.

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” – H.L. Mencken
Why such a bedraggled, wide ranging speech?
My guess is market research.
The climate scam is losing traction. The collapsed credibility of the over-hyped Covid pandemic, much championed by the United Nations, has heightened distrust of authority, just when the UN hoped they would finally be in a position to tighten their grip.
In my opinion there is also an important personal aspect to this speech. UN Secretary General António Guterres is well into his final term of office. If he cannot find a way to make us all care in the next few years, he won’t have a legacy. He will be forgotten, or at best remembered as a placeholder, a faceless footnote, yet another nobody leader of an institution whose leaders are rarely remembered.
All those dreams of a greater role for the United Nations, and personal glory for Guterres, are slipping away – so Guterres is desperately flailing about, trying to find an issue, any issue, which will make us all care again, make us all beg for strong global leadership to deliver us to the illusion of safety.
“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” – Benjamin Franklin
I can’t see any reason for him to stand up at every climate conference and UN meeting to give us the same song&dance. All he needs to do it to tape it once and re-play it at the next get-together. Whatever he says has had little effect anyway.
And have his work crew standing by to move the goal post as warming tipping points pass without the predicted disaster.
Antonio Guterres is an admitted Marxist; so it is to be expected for him to lie in his teeth. This last speech is merely what he thinks people want to hear to give him more time to continue destroying the fossil fuel industry.
That characteristic of his was at the origin of one of his nicknames while he was PM of Portugal: “Speaking Pickaxe”.
António, António where werst thou from the beginning of your overpaid, overpampered sinecure? Shooorly you would have made some progress by now?!? One wouldst think…
It was Trump who lampooned the poor fellow. His career would have soared to great heights if Trump had not pared his wings through lack of climate ambition.
I am quite hopeful that climate ambition is now consigned to history as a bad idea.
On the other hand a carbon tax levied by the UN would be a disastrous replacement. Imagine the UN gaining some sort of default taxing power on carbon.
Yes, even the EU have not been able to create a tax for themselves so they can avoid having to get the member nations approval for every budget cycle.
What an embarrassment he is. Most of the problems have been caused by him and his henchmen (and women)!
It angers me that well educated politicians elected to represent people in the governments of nations go along for the gravy train ride.
By well educated I think you mean “attended a university for a parasitic degree.”
But he is doing exactly what he has been educated to do.That gravy train brings home the Dollars.
Useless organization. US should withdraw & give them a year to relocate.
The actual purpose of the UN is to provide all expenses paid vacations in NY for corrupt oligarchs from around the world.
It would be welcome in London.
Unfortunately China would probably take the opportunity if it arose.
But keep on arguing for the USA to let go of the UN. It can’t hurt.
Honest.
It might well be welcome in London, but probably less in the rest of the UK; apart from, possibly, Scotland – I can imagine Sturgeon’s reaction to having the UN in Edinburgh. I would suggest an island, already uninhabited, where the only structures would belong to the UN and there would be no distractions from doing their ‘work’. Perhaps the Sandwich islands, an island near Antarctica or, slightly warmer, a coral island in the Maldives?
I’ve long advocated for the UN to be relocated in Antartica. Let them bloviate about global warming while they’re freezing their toes off.
The UN was supposed to be a safe place for countries to discuss grievances and suggest solutions. It has been bastardized into an authoritarian one world government wannabe.
The U.S. provides the real estate and in 2020, the United States paid for 12 percent of the regular budget and 26 percent of the peacekeeping budget. That comes to about $11.6 billion to the United Nations in 2020.
All to a body comprised of mostly countries that hate us or want us knocked down.
You do realise the same name keeps turning up again and again with this whole scam, don’t you? Guess who bought the land and donated the whole site to the UN? You won’t need 3 guesses – Rockefeller; Nelson Rockefeller backed by John D Rockefeller jr to be exact. Why do the Rockefellers seem to be behind every part of this scam, what have they been promised for their backing?
“….what have they been promised for their backing?”
Eternal damnation.
In an earthquake/volcano zone.
The actual purpose of the UN is to keep the whores on Seventh Avenue gainfully employed.
Gutteres and the NZ Prime minister are a good pair at spreading climate misinformation. See this recent article on the NZ catastrophe.
On 30 January 2008, at 27, Ardern was elected president of the International Union Of Socialist Youth (IUSY) at their world congress in the Dominican Republic for a two-year term until 2010. The role saw her spend time in several countries, including Hungary, Jordan, Israel, Algeria and China. It was mid-way through her presidency term that Ardern became a list MP for the Labour Party. She then continued to manage both roles for the next 15 months.

Is Mr. Brill going to be run out of New Zealand for bursting their climate change bubble/racket? Is the any chance that the leaders of NZ, or the people will listen to Mr. Brill?
Excellent article. Thank you nzcritic.
Thanks for posting this essay from Barry Brill..
I live in hope that Nick Stokes ,Griff, Simon, and those other deniers that visit this site and post drivel just might read it and comprehend what a nonsense Carbon Zero is and how much damage that a stupid government can do to their country .
Most of them aren’t capable of understanding. The rest can’t afford to.
In my opinion the damage of climate alarmism and the resultant policies
may well be ten fold that of the damage of covid alarmism and the resultant policies – if not more.
What rock has this clown been living under. Poverty is largly eliminated today thanks to (oh no – gasp) capitalism.
And the agricultural and industrial revolution. These two are separate threads involving different mindsets and all three are important.
It’s not eliminated in the U.S. on paper because the Census Bureau refuses to count the transfer payments from over 100 federal programs and the huge EITC credits paid out. See WJS piece on that one. The discrepancy in the long running “we’ve always done it this way” methodology goes unchecked.
There are also many state programs that aren’t counted.
Beyond that, poverty is defined as a percentage of the median income. So no matter how rich the country (and poor people) get, the percentage of people in “poverty” stays the same.
The poor in the U.S. live better than a large portion (majority?) of the world population.
I used to work with a guy that imigrated from China and he told me that one of the reasons he wanted to live in the U.S. was that even the poor were fat – no starvation.
We even have food giveaways where the “poor” would throw out food they didn’t like, nothing to do with religious constraints but a matter of taste.
And fossil fuels.
He will be forgotten, or at best remembered as a placeholder, a faceless footnote,
He will be good company. Can anybody name last 3 UN Secretary Generals?
Larry, Curley and Mo?
And then there’s Shemp.
Dag Hammarskjöld was my favorite.
As long as it’s not Fake Shemp.
Boutros-Boutros Ghali, mainly for ‘The Fast Show.’
Manny, Moe and Jack? …but at least the were useful.
Will we ever have a U.N. Secretary-General who is not a communist (and not coincidentally a serial liar)?
They are the key requirements to get in line for selection – my answer is NO!

Lions and tigers and bears… Oh my!!!
“…Russia’s war on Ukraine that’s upended energy markets”
I believe you meant to say Biden’s sanctions on Russia due to the war in Ukraine which have, thus far, hurt Russia not at all but are devastating Europe and harming the US. All of which will get much worse with the coming winter.
Biden has a funny way of doing things, like imposing sanctions on your enemies that only hurt your own country and your country’s friends and allies.
Now, behave. Shooting yourself in the foot is a valid and perfectly reasonable way of getting out of harms way, especially if it looks a bit, y’know, dangerous. Of course the next best strategy is to run away and hide, making sure it’s someone else getting shot at, not you. Biden is just doing what comes naturally to him – surviving by throwing everyone else under the bus!
“Each peril is pushing the Sustainable Development Goals further out of reach.” “It means supporting the Global Biodiversity Framework to transform how we use and preserve our natural gifts for the future.” “Comprehensive health care, meaningful climate action, biodiversity protection — these cannot be left for tomorrow.” “And young people are demanding action — not only for themselves, but for the generations of the future.”
I don’t believe anything coming out of the United Nations, especially the leadership. Reagan once said something like government is not the solution to our problems, government is the problem. That goes double for the UN. If the UN would stop helping us with the problems quoted above the world would be a better place and I do not go to children for moral, financial, political or religious guidance. This guy is a crackpot.
The UN has a long history of corruption and of trying to impose a dangerous and freedom-denying agenda on the world.

I don’t want to identify with all of the conspiracy theorists but there is a common link beginning with The Fabian (Marxist) Society founded in England in the late 1800s and their new world order plan and climate hoax with warming scare today.
Far-left politics.
Research the infiltration of the United Nations right from the start soon after WW2, for example Australian Labor (Communist faction member) Party Federal Government Attorney General Evatt, he recommended to his UN infiltrator comrades the system of treaties and agreements signed between the UN and member nations, as many as possible, that would enable compliant governments to get around constitutional laws of nations. The UN expanded into many octopus arm organisations, as POTUS Trump indicated and criticised during his first address to the UN in New York, and told delegates that returning to the original charter was desirable, reducing operating costs and to stop interfering into the affairs of member nations.
Research the claimed to have been architect of the natural climate change and weather based political agenda, Canadian billionaire Maurice Strong, a former UN employee, who successfully applied for asylum in Communist China to escape from Canada’s Environmental Protection Agency who were after him for illegally pumping water from aquifers under a property he owned in Canada. His cousin was a close girlfriend of Communist Chairman Mao Zedong (author of The Little Red Book). Strong died in China. His associates were many including Al Gore, George Soros, Klaus Schwab.
UN Official Christiana Figurers explained during a meeting in October 2015, just before the IPCC Paris Conference, that climate change was a cover for a plan to get rid of “capitalism” (free enterprise, free market system) as the world has known it and prospered from it. So what next? Communist China controlled and managed capitalism based system?
Strong does have a long and most interesting history. The Great Reset has been in progress for very long time.

“…What if a small group of world leaders were to conclude that the principal risk to the Earth comes from the actions of the rich countries? And if the world is to survive, those rich countries would have to sign an agreement reducing their impact on the environment. Will they do it? The group’s conclusion is ‘no’. The rich countries won’t do it. They won’t change. So, in order to save the planet, the group decides: Isn’t the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn’t it our responsibility to bring that about?”

who can forget U Thant?
who?
He served as ringmaster of the UN circus longer than anyone, 1961 through 1971. Back when, the Secretary General’s main job was to keep the US and the Soviet Union from getting all pissy with nuclear weapons. There wasn’t a lot of time for much else. The 6 Day War was over before he could finish writing his speech. There went his opportunity for lasting fame. He was best remembered as the guy with the one letter name. People who only saw his name in print were mystified as to how it was pronounced.
That’s U who. 😉
“who can forget U Thant?”
I did
My favourite and most memorable was Bootros Bootros Girly.
What… you kept forgetting how to spell his first name, saveenergy?
😉
I’d forgotten Boo-Boo, though mention of him brings memories.
Not always congenial ones.
My memory of the Austrian bod Waldheim, who IIRC succeeded U Thant, is always associated with him ‘ merely obeying orders’ during his time in whichever arm of Narsti Germany he had been in …..
Auto
Oh my. All kidding aside, I had forgotten about him, Auto, and he is one who should be remembered… with rancor.
I was obviously having a bit of fun with this, but maybe we should remember each and every one of them… so we can hunt them down.
IMO, there never was a good one.
Here we have UN Secretary General António Guterres lying to the world about CO2 and claiming there is a climate crisis caused by CO2 when there is no climate crisis. It’s all a Big Lie.
On another note Tom I see the Special Master has asked Trumps lawyers to provide evidence as to whether he actually did declassify the documents found at his beach house. This is going to be interesting. My pick is the best they will be able to do is say he told them he did…. there will be no evidence.
“there will be no evidence.”
You mean no evidence Trump did anything illegal.
We can all agree on that point.
The demoRats are enjoying their mindless little fishing trip though.
A fishing trip you say. Love those. But….I say the “Republicons” will be in need of a new leader. I am picking you think not…. So you think he declassified these highly classified docs? I say he is lying.
“I say he is lying.”
That sounds like wishful thinking to me, Simon.
It’s looked like the criminal Democrats had Trump nailed on numerous occasions and every time Trump has been found innocent of the charges. It must be really frustrating for the Democrats. They’ve thrown everything including the kitchen sink, at Trump, and Trump is still as pure as the driven snow.
This coming January the real investigations will begin. Joe Biden and his criminal son and cronies will be on the hotseat then and the real truth will be revealed, and the Democrats are going to look like the criminals and traitors to their country that they are.
Trump still leads the Republican pack by a very large margin. If Trump runs again, I’m voting for him. I bet millions of others will, too, especially after the truth comes out after January 2023.
It won’t be long now, Simon. We’ll know the truth soon. My bet is on Trump.
My understanding of the classification system, under which I currently have a clearance, is that all classification emanates from the President. The President doesn’t have to tell anyone that he declassified something, it is declassified automatically by his actions. In other words, if he gives something to a reporter that is classified, that act makes it declassified. So bringing home declassified documents and not storing them as per a classified document, should automatically declassify them.
Now Congress passed a law listing out the process by which documents can be declassified but it is unclear if that law applies to the President specifically. Since he is the classification authority Congress may not have the right to tell him how to declassify things.
This will be interesting to see what happens. One of the things that is interesting about Trump is that he seems to want to follow the law. When Courts found against him, he backed down until he was able to get a ruling rather than try to go around the Courts.
“The President doesn’t have to tell anyone that he declassified something, it is declassified automatically by his actions.”
Well then why has this judge asked specifically for evidence that the documents were de classified? Sorry but that makes no sense
“One of the things that is interesting about Trump is that he seems to want to follow the law. “
I’m sorry but are you talking about Donald Trump the ex president? I could list the times he wasn’t “successful” in following the law but I suspect that would be a waste of time here. But just today we have this…
https://www.ft.com/content/55108399-f70f-4e48-92fc-3e9cf7039143
This is hardly following the law.
Simon, The reason that people are asking Trump to prove that he declassified documents is that Congress passed a law explaining the process by which a document needs to be declassified. The question (and I addressed that in my second paragraph) is whether that is Constitutional and any President, as the classification authority actually can be bound by a Congressional act in that arena. It’s an open question. I covered that in my second and third paragraph. Sorry if it that didn’t make sense to you.
As far as today: your article is behind a paywall so I couldn’t read it. But if you are talking about the Attorney General of NY’s actions today, wow, that is really grasping at straws. She is basically trying to imply that Trump did something wrong during negotiations with sophisticated banks in valuing his assets for loans. Trump is free to say what he thinks it is worth, the banks are free to determine what they think it is worth. They eventually find an agreement and move forward. I bet, if you ever sold a house you did the exact same thing.
“As far as today: your article is behind a paywall so I couldn’t read it. But if you are talking about the Attorney General of NY’s actions today, wow, that is really grasping at straws.”
I couldn’t read it, either, so don’t know if the FT article is about the New York Attorney General and Trump or not, but you are correct in describing her actions as grasping at straws.
Trump addressed that last night in his interview with Hannity. Trump said, as you said, that the bankers were smart people who had the best analysts money can buy, and they know exactly what a property would be valued at, and Trump also said whenever he made such a deal he always included a disclaimer that ran to a page and one half where he told the other parties not to depend on Trump’s evaluation, but to do their own.
The New York Attorney General is *suing* Trump. She has not charged Trump with a crime. That’s the best she could manage. Grasping at straws, indeed.
It’s just one more corrupt, partisan political attack from the Left on Trump, and by extension, all Trump supporters.
“I could list the times he wasn’t “successful” in following the law but I suspect that would be a waste of time here.”
Yes, it would be a waste of time since all you would be listing would be the number of times the truth has been distorted about Trump by the Left and the Leftwing Media.
I’m not a subscriber to Financial Times so I have no idea what your second point is about.
It’s all lies and political vendettas when it comes to Trump. The Left is attacking Trump from every angle because Trump is going to destroy the Left’s power if he is elected and the Left is doing everything they can legally and illegally to prevent that from happening, yet Trump is still standing tall. The Left hasn’t laid a glove on him except in the minds of people like Simon..
“My understanding of the classification system, under which I currently have a clearance, is that all classification emanates from the President. The President doesn’t have to tell anyone that he declassified something, it is declassified automatically by his actions.”
Trump did an interviw with Sean Hannity last night and he said exactly that. Trump said the documents were declassified by his actions.
The second part of the interview of Trump by Hannity will take place tonight.
No matter what evidence is presented, Simon won’t believe it and will continue his Trump rants.
It’s not like he’s got anything else to animate his life.
Good old Mark. I say look in the mirror. Here’s my challenge to you. If this judge comes back with “Trump could not or did not declassify these documents” will you finally acknowledge Trump has lied here?
Well, according to John Solomon of “Just the News”, Trump established a standing order that any document he took home with him was automatically declassified.
The U.S. Constitution says the president has the authority to classify or declassify any document.
Congress, in the past, has made laws that restrict the president, but these laws have never been tested in the U.S Supreme Court, and if they were, they would be found to be unconstitional. It looks like the U.S. Supreme Court will have to weigh in on this.
Which has priority, the U.S. Constitution, or congressional laws that try to change the constitution improperly?
All of what you have said is interesting. But it begs the question… why has the judge that Trump asked for, insisted his lawyers provide proof that Trump declassified the docs?
And does John Solomon have proof that Trump had a standing order, because if he does he better get that proof to Trumps lawyers quick smart….
“But it begs the question…”
And likely here’s the answer. The referenced document below appears to cite procedural rules for each declassification scenario in question except one – the President of the United States.
“The President has the authority to declassify documents in
the public interest that originated in any department or
agency of the executive branch.”
https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/IF/IF12183
Seems up to you to argue that any specific procedure exists for POTUS. I say the President’s word alone is enough. If you say it isn’t, I’m happy to be corrected with your evidence to the contrary.
Thanks for this. But under the heading Declassification by the President it says…
“Requests for declassification can also be made to the Public Interest Declassification Board (PIDB). The Public Interest Declassification Act of 2000 (Title VII of P.L. 106-567) established the Public Interest Declassification Board (PIDB) to provide advice to the President and other senior national security officials “on the systematic, thorough, coordinated, and comprehensive identification, collection, review for declassification, and release to Congress, interested agencies, and the public of declassified records and materials …”
I’d say there is a procedure. Now we just need to see if he followed it.
It is also worth noting that classified or not, it is still an offence for Trump to have government files at his beach house, more so given he was asked to return them.
Finally given the appeals court judges are still referring to them as classified, I think we can assume there was no process followed that they know of. If you read their comments in the article below, it is clear they are not going to pussy foot around here. Interestingly, two of these judges were Trump appointed….
“Throughout their ruling, the three judges made clear they had little patience for Trump’s freewheeling claims about the status of the 100 documents, noting that he had presented no evidence to support those public assertions. And they noted drily that there’s a common sense reason for documents to include classified markings.”
https://www.politico.com/news/2022/09/21/donald-trump-special-master-00058176
‘I’d say there is a procedure”
I’d disagree. “Requests for declassification can also be made to the Public Interest Declassification Board (PIDB).”
Seems rather clear that “can” doesn’t mean “necessary to” which only makes sense given the U.S. President’s power.
Thus, no that’s not a procedure. If anything it’s an option.
Did you have something else?
My something else is Trump and his lawyers still can’t come up with any evidence they declassified the docs. And strangely they don’t seem to want to talk about it under oath. Now what was it Trump said about people who please the 5th?
Trump talked about it last night on Hannity.
Trump said if he considered a document declasified, then it was declassified. He didn’t have to consult with anyone.
Maybe you can get that interview on Youtube. Or you could sign up for Fox Nation and get it there. Everything you want to know, straight from the man himself.
The second part of Trump’s interview will be broadcast tonight on Fox’s Sean Hannity show at 8pm US CST.
Thanks Tom. I will have a look. But does your BS filter not go up a little when Trump says stuff like “I just have to consider it so?” I mean he has been known to tell the odd porkie and his back is to the wall at the moment.
And it is still an offence to have government property you are not entitled to at your home… particularly when you have been asked twice to return it.
The U.S. Constitution gives Trump the authority to classify or declassify anything he wants. It puts no restrictions on the president.
“And it is still an offence to have government property you are not entitled to at your home… particularly when you have been asked twice to return it.”
It remains to be seen as to whether Trump was entitled to have that property at home. Nobody knows what is even in those documents.
Trump and his people were in ongoing negotiations with the Biden administration over the remaining documents. The Biden administration requested that Trump put an extra lock on the room at Mar-a-lago containing the documents. Trump complied. The next thing Trump knows, the FBI is busting into his house.
It is a political hit job by Democrat traitors to their country who are using the power of the government to attack their political opponents. It’s a blatant power grab on the part of Biden and the radical Democrats.
All this will be investigated throughly when the Republicans take control of the House of Representatives in January. We’ll get both sides of the story then.
OK so I did my homework and watched the statement about declassification. The key here is he uses the words “as I understand it….” Oh boy Tom (in my opinion), that is a man making things up. He has not used any process even though there is one and he is saying I can do it coz I “was” the president. Gonna be interesting to see what happens for sure.
Trump was president when the documents were taken to Mar-a-Lago.
Trump didn’t make up the U.S. Constitution, Simon. The U.S. Constitution says the president can classify or declassify anything he so desires, and it doesn’t specify how the president should do this so the president is not restricted in any way. If he says a document is declassified, then it is declassified. Period. According to the U.S. Constituion.
Congressional laws regarding the subject have never been tested in the U.S. Supreme Court so it is debatable as to whether they apply to the president.
I’m sure this subject will be explored extensively in the near future. I look forward to it.
“My something else is Trump and his lawyers still can’t come up with any evidence they declassified the docs.”
Since now by your own admission there’s no procedure to declassify docs other than the President’s word, what evidence do you believe should exist?
Good question.
It is only Trump saying he can declassify things with his Jedi Mind Trick. Every other legal brain including the 3 judges looking at this whole thing say he can’t. I’m with the judges at this point. And let’s not forget he appointed two of them.
“Every other legal brain including the 3 judges looking at this whole thing say he can’t.”
Which law or procedure are these 3 judges (or any of the “every other” legal brains, for that matter) using as evidence for their position?
They can’t just simply claim a law has been broken without citing the statute.
“Throughout their ruling, the three judges made clear they had little patience for Trump’s freewheeling claims about the status of the 100 documents”
I bet “freewheeling claims” doesn’t appear anywhere in the written decision of these judges. It’s hyperbole. Judges don’t usually indulge in hyperbole. Leftwing reporters always indulge in hyperbole, especially where it concerns Trump.
But the judges did use those words.
Do you have to see the standing orders that George Bush, Barack Obama and Joe Biden had set up that all documents leaving the oval office for their residence of the time were to be automatically declassified? They all had them and so did Trump, so what is so special about the documents Trump had that has warranted all this panic? What was Trump about to reveal with those documents? It’s all looking a bit fishy now.
I say you are talking nonsense that any other president mishandling or removing classified documents to their homes and kept them there without authorisation. If you have proof of what you say then please supply, it otherwise it is just another snow storm to avoid the truth coming out.
Fact….Trump was asked to return the documents and refused. When pressed again he returned some and said he had no others. The Archive people knew that was false, so the government was left with no choice but legally send in the FBI to get back what Trump had no right to have.
It’s a matter of record that every president since Clinton (who changed the existing system) set up standing orders to declassify documents at their homes, otherwise they would be unable to work outside the oval office. Let’s also not forget that these documents weren’t stuffed into Trump’s bags as he left, the GSA would have boxed them up and catalogued them then transported them to be held or delivered to where Trump wanted them. All of which would have had to be authorised, checked against classified lists and then delivered to an authorised location, as per legal and security guidelines. So it begs the question, what is in THESE documents that has suddenly caused so much panic.
“It’s a matter of record that every president since Clinton (who changed the existing system) set up standing orders to declassify documents at their homes, otherwise they would be unable to work outside the oval office.”
There is a huge difference here. While president is working, you don’t have an issue with the person in charge looking at these docs. But he was no longer the president. Remember he was voted out by the people. And….Trump was asked twice to return the docs. He had no right to have them declassified or not. That’s pretty clear cut don’t you think? In fact the charges against him on this don’t mention the classification status.
I’ve watched the clip with Trump and Hannity a few times. He looks like I have never seen him before. Like a guilty man desperate to say anything to get out of trouble. The line where he says “I just have to think it” is going to be one that haunts him forever.
“I’ve watched the clip with Trump and Hannity a few times. He looks like I have never seen him before. Like a guilty man desperate to say anything to get out of trouble.”
Simon, you look like a man who is seeing what he wants to see.
“There is a huge difference here. While president is working, you don’t have an issue with the person in charge looking at these docs. But he was no longer the president.”
Right, this makes sense. And as I understand it, the DOJ is also preparing evidence to show Trump should be jailed for failing to forget everything he ever read that was classified in the first place.
After all, he was voted out…
“After all, he was voted out…” Finally at least we can agree on that.
No evidence of a crime since he on more than one occasion publicly declassified numerous documents related to the Russia hoax insurrection attempt.
You got proof of that? If it is only Trumps word then he is going to struggle to convince the special master he appointed.
Trump didn’t appoint the Special Master.
Btw, this Special Master is a former member of the Foreign Intelligence Survelliance Act secret court that approved the spying on Donald Trump’s campaign based on lies told to the court by the FBI.
This Special Master now knows that the FBI lied to him about Trump, so he looks like a good choice to examine the FBI in this case.
“Trump didn’t appoint the Special Master.” No but he requested him. Looking like one of the biggest own goals in US political history.
I have said it before, “Welcome to the Holocene Inter-Glacial”! It’s a shame this one is not as warm as the previous four Inter-Glacials, according to the data!!! Over the last two million years Ice-Ages have lasted between 90,000 & 130,000 years, Inter-Glacials have only lasted between 10,000 & 20,000 years, our current one started around 11,500 years ago!!! Borrowed time comes to mind!!!
” Full equality for women and girls cannot wait.”
I can think of half-a-dozen countries where this amazing orator should go and make this claim.
Indeed. I think he should go first to Afghanistan and see how that works out and if he comes back with his head still attached to his shoulders.
5 stars just for using the Mencken and Franklin quotes!
We need to do all these things and the option which has lifted billions of people out of poverty in the past we have decided to stop doing.
Now access to low-cost energy will be only the preserve of the wealthy, and by wealthy, I mean the sorts of people who are in the top few percent of the world’s population.
The rest are just my excuse to jet around the world.
From the article,
“…We meet at a moment of great peril for our world.
Rising costs of food and energy.
Unemployment and declining incomes.
Mistrust and division.
Poverty, inequality and discrimination.”
Gee, I wonder who is largely responsible for all these? Perhaps the Secretary-General should gather his partners in crime as a group and stand in front of a very large mirror so he can figure that out?
‘…stand in front of a very large mirror…’
What about a wall?
The US president recently declared that anyone who supports Trump is a traitor to this country.
However it’s the Republicans who are responsible for sowing division and hatred.
Most of the media shouted hallelujah.
Yesterday I read about a man who had run over and killed a teenager after a political argument. The excuse he gave when apprehended was that the kid was an extreme conservative.
If you took a poll of Germans circa 1925 to 1930, what percentage of them would have stated that Jews needed to be rounded up and exterminated? Yet 10 years later, the German people were doing just that.
Economic Systems: The alarmists keep telling us their concern about global warming is all about man’s stewardship of the environment. But we know that’s not true. A United Nations official has now confirmed this.
At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.
“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,” she said.
Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added: “This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.”
The only economic model in the last 150 years that has ever worked at all is capitalism. The evidence is prima facie: From a feudal order that lasted a thousand years, produced zero growth and kept workdays long and lifespans short, the countries that have embraced free-market capitalism have enjoyed a system in which output has increased 70-fold, work days have been halved and lifespans doubled.
Figueres is perhaps the perfect person for the job of transforming “the economic development model” because she’s really never seen it work. “If you look at Ms. Figueres’ Wikipedia page,” notes Cato economist Dan Mitchell: Making the world look at their right hand while they choke developed economies with their left.

He will be forgotten, or at best remembered as a placeholder, a faceless footnote, yet another nobody leader of an institution whose leaders are rarely remembered.
Mmm, who could forget Eric?
Eric who?
Another overfed flabby globulist corruptocrat. Nothing he could say would interest me.
Yah, but… the perks! Your driver gets to park your car wherever you want in NYC. Never a ticket. Never towed. How cool is that?
And a retirement chalet in Switzerland like Kofi has.
People like him don’t say interesting things, only disturbing things!!!
It’s sad. The UN has become everything it was created to eradicate. It is a powerless, inefficient, teeming mass of career bureaucrats who stand for nothing but self-preservation and antisemitism.
Antisemitism seems to be intimately connected to socialism/communism.
I can count the number of far leftists I’ve met, who weren’t antisemitic, on the fingers of one hand.
Does Bernie Sanders count?
Bernie counts twice!
Make that thrice if you include self-loathing.
Global warming has always been about the redistribution of wealth. End of.
It successfully replaced the less popular North-South Divide and India’s Third World Campaign. The expiration date for this one is well past the retirement dates for all the con men and their extended families, friends, and business associates.
Many of you may find this article interesting. It is a history of how we got to the situation we are in today. Most of you will not be surprised by this but you will, most likely, be surprised by how very long the Great Reset has been in the planning. It has been under development since the late 1800s.
The Globalism of Climate: How Faux Environmental Concern Hides Desire to Rule the World
https://stovouno.org/2019/02/23/globalism-of-climate-how-faux-environmental-concern-hides-desire-to-rule-the-world/
Yes, this situation didn’t just happen overnight.
I am increasingly convinced the UN is a facilitator of fraud.
The banging of the anxiety drum is getting louder and louder with each desperate attempt to gain authority over the world’s individual nations.
The main item on this week’s UN agenda is a carbon tax. This seemingly simple little policy demand will be endorsed by the majority who see themselves as beneficiaries who will then demand the donor nations the benefactors to step up to the demand.
The most fascinating question to consider is who exactly will be given the task of distributing the collected carbon tax mandated by UN edict?
Who exactly is going to decide which ‘poor vulnerable Climate Change nation’ deserves what from the carbon tax pot?
If this latest demand for wealth distribution via energy tax goes ahead, then a whole new layer of authority will be put in place to control the world. That entity with all the usual greedy hands and sticky fingers, taking what they can get for themselves as a priority. Only then, after the usual ‘lubrication’ passing some residuals on to a little Pacific island nation, ‘in need’ or more likely, a little Caribbean island. The UN will have given birth to that opportunity. It will be all but impossible to shut it down.
If anyone wants to know the dangers of what happens when fraudulent agents get their hands on big cash look no further than the recent and ongoing prosecution of German so called ‘finance company’, Wirecard.
Maybe he should restrict himself to focusing on the UNs original purpose – article 1
Doing too many thing means nothing gets done and maintaining world peace is a better goal . . .
and they did such a good job at world peace???
The nuclear ICBMs did that (make peace) except for places where they gave up their nukes like Ukraine. And those that don’t develop them are also at risk: S. Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Armenia, Georgia, Finland, etc.
“We need finance and investment from the public and private sectors. “
I thought all finance and investment comes from the private sector. The public sector gets it’s income from general taxation and the only tax of value is taxation of the private sector as taxation of the public sector is taxing money that has come out of taxation.
The private sector invests in the hope of making money.
The public sector invests in the hope of making votes.
his climate policies have helped put europe and england on the verge of economic collapse . waist deep in the big muddy and the big fool says to push on .

Well I reckon Nigel Farage knows why as winter approaches-

US Senator William ‘Wild Bill’ Langer opposed the United States joining the United Nations. One of two senators to do so.
A local newspaper on the editorial page had a ‘Fifty Years Ago Today’ entry each week.
It quoted Bill Langer’s sole reason for not voting ‘yes’: “All it will do is create perpetual war,” were the words used by Senator Langer.
He was a Republican, attended Columbia University School of Law and graduated first in his class.
He was also affiliated with the Non-Partisan League, a political movement that recognized socialist entities in the State of North Dakota. Non-partisan was the term used by actual Socialists who viewed those sympathetic to socialism but were not in the fold. In the beginning it was the Republican-NPL, later to become the Democratic-NPL.
A socialist was elected sheriff in Williams County, at the west end of the state, in the 1930’s.
Mother Bloor, Ella Reeve Bloor, married a communist that farmed in the area of my hometown.
During the Great Depression, 35 cities in America elected socialist mayors.
‘The Goat that Can’t be Got’ was the motto of the NPL, later to become the Progressive Party in the MIdwest and in Alberta, Canada. Americans settled in Alberta, for the most part.
Suffice it to say that the UN is one huge mistake and should be dismantled.
