The UK Met struggles to get tomorrow’s weather right, and their “warmer than normal” winter seasonal forecasts are an open joke, but they can definitely tell us the form of government our children will experience by the end of the 21st century.

It is a bleak forecast even by the Met Office’s standards – the complete collapse of society leaving armed militias and criminal gangs to roam the land unchallenged.
That is one of the doomsday scenarios set out in a report commissioned by the UK’s weather service to model the potential consequences of climate change.
The extraordinary report, called Shared Socio-economic Pathways and developed for the Government-funded UK Climate Resilience Programme, sets out supposedly ‘plausible futures’ as a result of global warming.
One of those scenarios described by the authors is a surge in ‘Right-wing populism’, resulting in the collapse of ‘political and governance systems’. After that ‘a tipping point is reached when the police and justice system (as known in the past) cease to exist’. Due to ‘past investments in military and defence… without an effective central government, different military groups (militias, criminal groups, etc) rise to de facto power’.
Under a different scenario in the report, a ‘rich elite’ imposes conscription. ‘Society is more divided than ever,’ the report suggests, ‘with the majority of the population having low incomes and poor health, contrasting with a rich ruling elite. Social unrest increases and the prison population skyrockets. To keep the general population in line, governments introduce military conscription by the end of the century.’

My first thought was, both scenarios sound like life in today’s London. But maybe the people who write such reports have never venture outside of their safe spaces.
Why on earth is the Met Office wasting my money on this garbage? When the world is actually getting better and better? Go away and do some forecasting. Where’s my barbecue summer?
What kind of people write such rubbish? And how well are they paid?

The irony that these idiots are failing to recognise is that, if organisations like extinction rebellion etc get their way, their long-term plan is decentralisation of government to local collectives. That’s what will lead to the return of a feudal, tribal and, hence, more violent society!

Annual floods and flash floods and new temperature records… annual destructive gales…

Gales don’t become more destructive just because you attach names to them. And anyway, if they and the floods are “annual” then the climate cam hardly have “changed”, can it?

the UK climate is essentially the same as when Stonehenge was built 8,000 ago except we are several °C cooler.
Most floods are caused by a change in land use.
If you build on a flood plain (there’s a clue in the name) you’re going to get wet.

You are making the most inane arguments for CAGW, which is an unintended admission you have no rational arguments or evidence. Yes the climate has changed and yes there are weather events happening in the UK and everywhere else. It would be very strange if that were not the case. We don’t live either in hot house Earth or in the worst depths of glaciation (but not far from that) and extreme weather events are always going to happen. So what? Is that all you’ve got? Pathetic.

They are in a panic that we may have a number of years of cooling thereby cutting off the money gravy train. Stir the panic now, get the money out into the hands of the financiers before it gets cut off.

On another note, somewhat less dismal, doomsday scenarios have been around for millennia, so this “forecast” is nothing new. Or maybe it’s wishful thinking on the part of those prognosticators?
We already have that in US cities and it’s not caused by climate.

At least this is an improvement in governance and a triumph of personal freedoms.
That is today’s reality in numerous Islamic countries. As the UK imports more and more Muslims, that is what you will surely get. Its not climate related.
I feel certain that the collapse of rational and competent government will bring us to this future long before any piddling climate change will. It is far deadlier and much, much, much more predictable. Just mix an incredible amount of taxpayer money and borrowing ability with a collection of self centered and idiotic grifters. Economic and social disaster guaranteed. You don’t have to cook it.
Those doomsday scenarios are more likely the potential consequences of FIGHTING climate change.
