Complete Madness In The Biden Administration: Energy Policy

From the MANHATTAN CONTRARIAN

Francis Menton

Is President Biden doing anything right? To this observer, his policies range from at best merely incompetent, to at worst malicious hatred of the country and people whose interests he was elected to advance. Somewhere in between those two extremes we have Biden’s energy policy. In this arena, appropriate adjectives would be inconsistent, incoherent, and destructive. Don’t even attempt to make sense of it. To summarize in one word, it is complete madness.

I’m old enough to remember the 1970s, and the two “oil shocks” that occurred during that decade. A brief summary of the history can be found in this 2012 piece from Foreign Policy. By 1970/71, U.S. oil production had peaked and begun to decline. 1973 brought the Yom Kippur War in the Middle East, and OPEC halted oil shipments to the U.S., Western Europe and Japan. By January 1974, crude oil prices on the world markets had “more than quadrupled” (from around $3 to $12 per barrel). Further constraints on supply in the late 70s, most notably a big drop in supply from Iran following the ouster of the Shah, were followed by a further tripling of the price, this time from about $12 to about $36 per barrel. Government efforts at price controls were largely unsuccessful at restraining prices at the pump, but did cause shortages and lines at gas stations that maddened consumers. Without adequate domestic oil supply, the U.S. became a supplicant to the big international exporters, mainly OPEC and Russia. As reported in that Foreign Policy piece, President Carter reacted by “mak[ing] energy independence the central ambition of his presidency.”

Energy independence was a bi-partisan goal of American Presidents and of the Congress, until President Obama came along. Obama had the opposite strategy. He had drunk the climate Kool-Aid, and thought that the right goals were to restrict the production of fossil fuel energy, which would cause prices to rise and thereby restrict consumption. The famous quote from Obama, uttered in 2008 during his first presidential campaign, was “under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity prices would necessarily skyrocket.” Although that statement specifically dealt with electricity prices, the same principle would apply as well to all energy prices. And Obama sought to put his strategy into practice, both by putting proposed “cap-and-trade” legislation before Congress, and by attempting to use his executive powers to restrict domestic fossil fuel development. However, the cap-and-trade legislation failed in Congress, and domestic “frackers” worked around Obama’s federal restrictions to greatly expand U.S. domestic oil and gas production, mostly on private lands.

One could disagree with Obama’s energy policy — I certainly did, vociferously — but at least it wasn’t self-contradictory.

And Trump, of course, reversed Obama’s policies of energy restriction, encouraged development and fracking, and within one term had achieved the energy independence that had been the bi-partisan goal of U.S. Presidents for the three decades before Obama. Energy prices fell dramatically, the U.S. was no longer beholden to the bad actors among the oil exporting countries, and all of those countries — from OPEC, to Russia, to Venezuela — were left with gaping revenue shortfalls to pay their bills.

Now, for the Biden madness. As far as I can tell, here are the key elements of Biden’s energy policy:

  • Do everything possible within executive powers to restrict domestic supply of fossil fuels. Executive orders issued in the early days of the administration canceled the Keystone XL pipeline and ended leases for oil and gas development on federal lands. Other orders commanded an “all of government” approach to restricting fossil fuels, so that, for example, financial regulators are now involved in arm twisting banks and other financers to steer clear of the fossil fuel industry. As recently as October 21, the Financial Stability Oversight Council — a consortium of federal financial regulators headed by Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen — got into the game with a press release announcing that it would now be “at the forefront of the agenda of its member agencies” to address “the threat of climate change” by restricting access to financing by fossil fuel developers.
  • When energy prices inevitably soar, beg Russia and OPEC to increase supply. As early as August, the Biden Administration had begun begging Russia and OPEC to increase supply to keep oil and gas prices from going too high. But wasn’t forcing prices to “skyrocket” the whole idea, the very mechanism by which consumption and “emissions” were to be reduced? And the begging has continued into this month, joined as you might expect by leaders from European countries who also find themselves with energy shortages and soaring prices due to their own suppression of fossil fuel development. As the New York Times reported on November 4, “President Biden and other world leaders have called on countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to increase production because oil prices, which collapsed during last year’s pandemic lockdowns, have now reached their highest levels in seven years.”
  • Blame the soaring prices and supply shortages on anything but your own intentional policies. Per that New York Times piece, on November 2 Biden said that the rise in oil and gas prices “is a consequence of, thus far, the refusal of Russia or the OPEC nations to pump more oil.” Apparently in the weeks since then, he or his handlers have had a political epiphany, and have decided that it would be more beneficial to blame the increase in prices on the evil oil companies. On November 17, Biden sent a letter to FTC Chair Lina Khan asking the Commission to investigate “mounting evidence of anti-consumer behavior by oil and gas companies.”

Here’s my question: If soaring oil and gas prices are caused by anti-consumer conduct by greedy oil and gas companies, were those same companies really less greedy when Trump was President and oil and gas prices were falling?

With Obama, at least he appeared to have some understanding that the whole idea of his policies of fossil fuel suppression was to force consumption down through the mechanism of rising prices. But with Biden you’re never sure. Is he just too stupid to understand that his policies were designed to have, and likely would have, the effect of dramatically raising prices and throwing us back into dependency on OPEC and Russia?

Biden, or at least those giving him his marching orders know what the polices are doing.

  • The Biden energy policies are meant to skyrocket oil prices so they can bring in their “New Green Deal” as AOC has outlined it.
  • The border policies are to bring in millions of illegals give them healthcare, money and goods then nationalize them ASAP to make them Democrat voters.
  • The Afghanistan botched withdrawal apparently was to foster growth of Islam and America’s enemies.
  • Fostering lockdowns, mandates and questionable vaccines are to condition the population to government control and to use it as an excuse to steal elections with untraceable absentee ballots.
  • Economic policy is intended to squeeze small business so liberal social media, media in general and woke large corporate CEO’s can bring about CRT and other nonsensical liberal/democrat policies.
  • Taxes will be raised on EVERYONE to usher in more government programs to make the public more dependent upon the government fostering bigger government and government control.
  • Spending trillions on wasteful climate change policies will move money into the hands of democrat supporters who will be given massive contracts for climate control and move money out of the U.S.
  • Need I go on?

I have been criticized for “spamming” about Covid-19, but this has to be said:

Watch this video – look at all these fine young faces, struck down in the prime of their lives by the Covid-19 injections :
https://odysee.com/@Fingerbob:c/Daunting-Compilation-Of-Athletes-COLLAPSING–amp–DYING-From-COVID-Vaccines:b

As I predicted on wattsup in September 2021:
Watch professional sports in one year – most of the athletes who took the Covid-19 injection will have left the game – because they are no longer competitive. Professional athletes are highly-tuned humans, operating at the peak of fitness – they are the ‘canaries in the coal mine” and the vascular clogging caused by the injections will cause them sufficient harm to make them uncompetitive.

I published the following correct conclusions starting on 21March2020.
The Covid-19 Lockdowns were never justified. All we needed to do was over-protect the very elderly and infirm.
The Covid-19 “vaccines” are toxic, and are causing more deaths than the virus.

Following are the correct predictions of Allan MacRae and colleagues on Climate and Covid.
Our scientific predictions are infinitely more accurate than the mainstream narratives, which have been false and baselessly alarmist to date.

Allan,
that is just nonsense. The English Premier League along with most European football leagues is going strong with the overwhelming majority of players vaccinated. Where is the evidence that the footballers are leaving? Name a single professional sport where that is happening.

Seriously Isaac? Read what I wrote – I said “in one year…”
But some athletes are leaving early – having heart attacks and dying, right on the field. I don’t suppose you bothered to watch the video either…
About 1 in 500-1000 have a severe adverse reaction to the Covid-19 “vaccine” within hours to weeks of their first or second injection. Many of these die.
Later, others get very ill from a wide range of illnesses, due to ADE – reduced immunity caused by the toxic “vaccines”. Then over the longer term, clogging of arteries/capillaries occurs and there are more heart attacks and strokes.

I never imagined it would be this difficult to stop people from killing/harming their own kids.

Here are my last three papers, of the ~16 I have published since 2002 on Climate-and-Energy, and most recently, also on Covid-19.

Climate and Covid are the two greatest political failures of current governments around the world. Both Climate and Covid are false crises, made far worse by government-induced panic and over-reaction to threats that are non-existent (alleged catastrophic human-made global warming) or manageable (Covid-19).

The first paper covers the science, whereas the latest two deal with the politics. The science arguments have all been made, by me and others, time after time. The average reader does not understand the science, but he does understand the hard truths of the political papers – he understands when he is being lied to, and that is my message.

This stopped being a scientific argument decades ago – the opposition disdains the science and routinely misrepresents it, using Lenin’s propaganda tactics to shout down the truth. We have been fighting the wrong war for years, bringing ping pong paddles to a knife fight. I will continue to call out these climate fraudsters. For them, it was never about the science.

No opinion on this article, as it requires detailed study of AZ.

General observations on Covid-19 mismanagement::
Lockdowns, masking, etc did not work – costly, dangerous and ineffective – see Sweden for the correct path.
Lockdowns also increased the mutation of “successful” variants.
Covid-19 “vaccines did not work – also costly, dangerous and ineffective – killed and seriously injured many more than the virus.
Everything Western governments did has made the Covid-19 situation much worse – and yet they continue to double-down and do the same wrong things again and again. Scoundrels/imbeciles.

Excellent report – thank you Pamela! Author David Archibald is generally credible, and his estimate of ~first-year Covid-vaccine-caused deaths is much higher than my initial estimate. David’s estimate is based on total excess deaths, which is a good method when the data is available.
David wrote:
For the 42 million vaccinated in the UK, deaths due to vaccination will be of the order of 700,000.
That is one death per 60 Covid-19 vaccinated people – or 1/10th the odds of playing Russian roulette with a one-loaded six-shot revolver
David wrote further:
The spike protein has a myriad of ways of killing people, but the majority of deaths will be due to heart problems. The effect is noticeable in professional soccer, hence these recent headlines:
German Newspaper Shocked so Many Football Players Collapsed Recently
Mystery: ‘Large Number’ German Soccer Players Collapse With ‘Heart Issues’ Recently
Another Professional Soccer Player Collapses on Field: Emil Pálsson Suffers On-Field Cardiac Arrest, Is Resuscitated on Field
Sudden cardiac and unexplained deaths among FIFA athletes increased by 500% in 2021
The figure of a 500% increase in the death rate in the last headline agrees with the interpretation of Figure 2.
The vaccinated in the 30 to 60 age group are far more likely to become infected with covid than the unvaccinated. Assuming that the 10% of the infected become ‘long covid’, then the deleterious health effects from vaccination extend well beyond the 1.7% death rate in the first year.
If the effect of booster shots is the same as the 2nd dose, then booster shots will come with a 1.7% chance of death in the first year.

Since January 2021 I’ve been urging people to not get these extremely dangerous Covid-19 injections, and have been dismissed and censored.
It’s too late for most people who have been injected, but we should immediately stop the current move to inject teenagers and children – this is madness and it must STOP now.
The Covid-19 booster programs should also be stopped immediately.

Repeating, “I never imagined it would be this difficult to stop people from killing/harming their own kids.” [Insert strong expletive here]

No Michael, I’m saying governments are incredibly incompetent, and the best government is the one that does the least. I’d vote for any politician who says
“I’m gonna do a whole lot LESS for you!”

You understand very little about how the world actually works.
Actually, I’ve done major business on six of the world’s seven continents, managed successful multi-billion-dollar projects, turned around the economy of Canada, and saved ~300,000 people from possible/probable death (got an award from SPE for that). Also successfully managed two armed hostage crises in the FSU, where everyone got to go home safely (even the bad guys), and successfully managed a million dollar extortion attempt where my four-year-old daughter was abducted for two months.
But you are probably correct, I’m just a child in the ways of the world. I still tend to trust people, and believe that most people are inherently good and kind.

Write to your Member of Parliament about your concerns regarding ‘renewables’?
Mine couldn’t even be bothered to answer my letter about my concerns. They don’t think or question anything. Vote for whomsoever you like, it won’t make a scrap of difference.
The media are also behind the climate garbage – any objective contrasting views are disregarded, newspapers don’t print letters from so-called ‘deniers’, and the BBC is a disgrace. These organisations have infected swathes of the population with junk climate change terrors.
My view is that all this won’t end until people in power and the media begin to question it all publicly.

I know that I am not the only Boomer who frequents WUWT and I vividly remember how in the wake of the Nixon-Watergate debacle all Americans wanted in the White House and Congress were those unschooled in the wily ways of back room politics. Thus along came Jimmy Carter, the well-meaning dolt who bragged openly about his total lack of political savvy. But he was not in the game for fame and fortune and mostly his heart was pure.

Obama was a totally different story, a lackluster student who worshiped at the feet of Communists and rose from obscurity to become the first Black President. We can thank him for the current fondness for CRT and Joe Biden…well, maybe not him precisely, more likely the same puppet masters who pulled him out of community organizing and into international prominence. Those same shadowy characters appear to be running the show today for demented Joe, amazing the similarities between the Obama administration and the one currently in power.

Washington is full of people there only for the money and the scent of money clings to all things Climate Emergency. WE know there is no climate emergency and so, I suspect, do all those greedy pigs enriching themselves at the expense of American greatness. The trick is how to get rid of them without swinging to the opposite extreme a la Nixon to Carter.

Unfortunately, I believe that this is a part of the so-called “great reset” that everyone seems to be enraptured with. In the guise of “green” agenda and sustainable development (which neither accomplishes) the present administration is hell bent to reduce CO2 emissions to zero (good luck with that one) and end fossil fuel supply and usage. In the process, the public will be further milked of their income, let alone disposable income. If they can make it more difficult for the American public, they will.

Could it be the resistance by developed nation governments to net zero emissions adversely impacting on agriculture and that important sector of economies?

Preventing “dangerous” methane emissions is just another method of artificially raising the cost of oil and gas production. Not much different from the excessive regulation of nuclear power that changed it from the lowest cost source of electricity to one of the more expensive.

Sorry Ruleo, a bit too cynical, that’s what the ad-sellers and media would have us believe but real people feel and act otherwise in the USA as well. People get embittered, misunderstand life and society, the intent of it, but the requirement on all of us is to learn, observe, understand, and make a better world for others, anyway.

The real question is, why does it have to be like this? It doesn’t, incrementally you can change to a much better situation.

The ‘learn’ part of that is always the most painful. If everyone did this, life will always get better, for all, everywhere. That is what the USA did for so long. The problem is a lot of people, newer generation got lost, derailed, and didn’t, degenerative decadence set in.

That’s the core which needs fixing, a lack of individual comprehension that the system actually works if we understand to make it better for all others, then 330 million people are making it better for you too. If a population decides to do that and sideline forces not doing that, it can’t help but succeed.

And that’s not being optimistic, unanimity works, and a divided house falls.

I absolutely think that the ideal of service to others is essential to human happiness. ( These are not shallow thoughts, but the results of years of observing individuals and society and practice in my own life).

That said, that ideal is achieved only when one first takes care of oneself.
And it must exist as freedom. All tyrannies are established on the ideal of altruism, which justifies FORCE OVER OTHERS. I decide what YOU must give, and how, and when, and how much.
Power over others is the essence of evil, the essence of all crimes.

The president is a powerful person. That’s why we should be careful about who we put in that office. It’s not just a figurehead. The president’s actions have real consequences.

At present, we have a perfect storm in Congress with the Democrats barely having a majority over the Republicans in both Houses of Congress.

When this kind of situation occurs, the real power can reside in just a few individuals, such as Joe Manchin, under these complicated circumstances.

“To summarize in one word, it is complete madness

Sorry, that is two words…

When something is too complex for you to understand, you think of it as magic – it just happens. This is how the biden administration thinks about the economy and the entire production, distribution, generation and consumption of power. It’s just magic.

This allows them to propose and regulate in nonsensical ways. They want fossil fuel consumption to stop immediately – they just can’t understand why that isn’t possible. Solar panels and wind turbines produce electricity after all – what else is needed?

There is no deep understanding of the electrical grid, of power distribution, or the additional loads you will be putting on it. There is no understanding of intermittent power, or the limitation of battery farms, or the costs of anything – just print more money!

Until the idiots running the current administration are under control, bad policies will continue to be forced upon us. The only way to check the current administrations power is by taking both the House and the Senate in 2022.

I wish it was that simple and easy. If the Republicans gain control, they must

1) impeach Biden — he’s guilty, do the right thing and send him packing,

2) remove his cabinet, kick the incompetent/corrupt to the curb,

3) undo all his Executive Orders –Congress must take back its constitutional powers,

4) craft new laws that limit the Executive Branch in every Department,

5) weed out the bureaucracy by cutting budgets and undertaking formal investigations,

6) halt all handouts, grants, contracts, and other funding of private and public institutions, IOW remove the pork.

That’s just for starters. They also should affirm individual rights, close the borders, re-establish law and order, encourage oil and nat gas development, and restore the military for likely global conflicts. We can’t wait until 2024 for a new President. Our situation is desperate and immediate actions are necessary.

Start by doing everything that is achievable, helps the economy, and will win over independents so that we can win power legitimately under the Constitution.

You need 67 votes in the Senate to convict on an impeachment, which has never happened for a President. It would require flipping at least 17, maybe as many as 21 Senate seats considering the RINOs, to impeach and remove any of the executive branch officials. Flocks of pigs will fly before that could happen.

Unfortunately, removing the Brandon Administration simply can’t happen constitutionally and pretty much everything else on your list is a generational project that depends on incremental progress over multiple administrations.

It requires changing the mindset of about 20% of the country (66 million people) to go from where we are to where you (and I) would like to be. Repeating 2016 will only lead to repeating 2020. The country took about 110 years to degrade the Constitution to current state and we may need that long to reverse it. For the Constitution to be effective, we must have a virtuous population.

The main problem in the US is that mail-in voting has allowed for the complete corruption of local and national elections. Some terrible event, like 911 or a handy virus is used to spoon feed the naive public into believing an alternate reality genned up by corporate media interests. Lobbyists then fill congressional troughs to push thru mandates in order to perpetuate the crime.

So long as it is legal to vote yourself loot taken from a minority of the public, real change is unlikely and eventual collapse is probable.

Cleaning out Mordor on the Potomac may be more challenging. That requires new leadership in all three letter agencies, eliminating several, kicking ALL lobbyists out of DC, making private meetings with Congress and Senators illegal. Yep! All business is public business. All policy is public policy. You, as a business want to pass legislation, then submit your request to a public forum. And all elected officials must severely limit their exposure to the stock markets. What? Yep, you want to be a public servant, you sell your holdings of policy influence. ( Or severely limit them and reduce that number, say 100 k, by 25 percent if you run for re-election. )

Perhaps the Republicans can help them out by impeaching and removing Joe Biden from office for dereliction of duty, when the Republicans regain control of Congress in the next election, which is less than a year away now.

The article itself says the politicians don’t understand it. That link, in the end, is just and only a massive conspiracy-theory. There maybe seeds of accuracy in it, but how would you ever know?

RE table 3, terrible stats, for sure, but I did not see its relevance to Wikileaks and Podesta. Looks more like the poor parenting and loveless homes that a lot of young people grow up in. As soon as they can, they leave the abuse and don’t care to re-contact or return ever again. I don;t think anyone can reasonable conclude this is part of a grand plot to traffic children protected by Federal powers.

I can’t imagine anyone coming to that conclusion and spending time contriving a massive narrative about it.

It’s important to be skeptical, especially about what you believe and presume as the basis for a world or national view.

But this is OT re Biden admin policy, the facts that we actually know about that are bad enough without the known being undermined by assertions of the personally interpretive, untestable and intangible.

Joseph Robinette Biden, the hapless marionette under the control of God only knows who, has not made an independent decision in at least 2 years, probably not even what flavor ice cream he just ordered. His behind the scenes handlers (Obama may be one of them) possibly understand about as much about it as Obama understood, but since JRB is a vacuous sock puppet, if he opens his mouth to answer any question with regards to energy, it’s instantly apparent he comprehends not what he was asked, let alone comprehends a rational answer. I believe we have government-by-committee, which is why, even when JRB does not open his mouth, the White House has to frequently “clarify” and “circle back” and yadee yadee yadee…

I think that’s the bottom line. What shifts the mindset of 60-100 million people (in the US, far more if we’re talking the developed world), is not going to be some marginal issue of policy argued over by politicians. It will have to be a catastrophic failure with substantial loss of life and widespread suffering to break this spell of magic thinking.

Unfortunately experience keeps a dear school but fools will learn in no other.

November 28, 2021 8:49 pm

Assuming that Biden is even slightly logical, a big if, and that he’s really running the show, or even playing a bit role (another big if), then about the only explanation I can think of is he wants to take some credit for “lowering” the United States’ reported CO2 emissions by way of reducing domestic production of petroleum and relying on OPEC to just send us more, while hoping that the evil energy companies will just eat the inevitable cost increases and keep gas prices as low as possible, and by extension helping his polling numbers.

Or, more likely, this is the continuation of the process of fundamentally transforming us, meaning that we’re being deliberately sabotaged…

The Democrats are confident they can steal the 2022 and the 2024 election cycles, regardless of how low the polling numbers go.

And the Democrats have good reason to be confident. The courts will not intervene to deal with a stolen election, and the Republicans still aren’t doing enough of the right work in enough of the right places to fight stolen elections.
