NPR fires weatherman for comparing Seattle riots to Germany in 1938 on his personal blog

We didn’t post about this as it was happening a couple of days ago, but have been watching. It’s time to let the story out.

From The Post Millenial

A weatherman for a National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate in Tacoma has been taken off the air for a personal blog post that shows in vivid detail the destruction two months of incessant rioting and protests have wrecked on Seattle.

The NPR affiliate took issue with Cliff Mass’ comparison of the destruction in Seattle to Kristallnacht, the “Night of Broken Glass” in 1938, where rioters destroyed Jewish owned stores, buildings, and houses of worship while German authorities looked on without intervention and even encouraged the violence.

Mass is a University of Washington meteorologist who up until now has been reporting on the weather for KNKX Tacoma. On Wednesday, Mass posted this article to his personal blog describing a recent trip to downtown Seattle and the devastation he saw there, with pictures.

“Take a walk around downtown Seattle. You will be shocked by a shuttered, dystopian city and made angry by the inaction and ineptness of its political leadership. It is simply beyond words.”

Mass continued “Block after block of boarded up stores, restaurants, and other buildings. A city in lockdown and afraid.” Mass wrote what many Seattle residents have noticed but do not express out loud for fear of being targeted for speaking the wrong narrative.

“A boarded up central core of a major U.S. city was being left to the homeless, drug dealers, and security guards. Even the most notorious, crime-ridden corner of the city had no police. The streets of the city had become a fearful abandoned place.”

In his comparison of recent events to Kristallnacht in 1938, Mass highlighted the similarities between the events: “Violent individuals and groups have hidden within protest groups, attempting to destroy businesses both to deliver a political message of fear and to loot their contents. Dozens of police have been seriously injured by bottles and fireworks, or partially blinded by lasers. Even in my neighborhood, graffiti calling for the killing of police have been sprayed at a prominent location. No city can remain healthy if such anti-social activities are allowed to continue unchecked.”

Mass also referenced the vandalism at the homes of city council members, the mayor and an attempted attack on the Seattle Police Chief. “There has also been efforts to intimidate our city’s political and civil leadership by taking rancorous protests to their homes, bringing fear to family and neighbors.”

Reaction came swiftly from the left on social media accusing Mass of anti-Semitism and exaggerating what was going on in riots in Seattle. This is what led to KNKX issuing a public statement and removing Mass and his weather report from the air.

They wrote: “At KNKX, we value high-quality, factual information in our news programming and we aim to present an array of voices that reflect our region.

Let’s remember all the 2016 hoopla about Trump winning the Electoral College without a majority of the national vote. As if it was not exactly the way the electoral system is devised.

With everything that has happened in the last months and the ensuing overtly biased anti-Trump MSM firestorm, imagine what will happen if he is re-elected in November:

He will be automatically accused of being an usurper who somehow stole the election. There will be mass rioting all over the blue states.

re: mass rioting

That’s what happened with his first election then inauguration and still in progress. Ironically, they warned us that electing Obama would force this outcome. They were wrong, because armed with false correlations, colorful labels, quasi-principles, and distorted history, they mischaracterized people.

I despise the NPR KNKX fascist firing of Cliff Mass, because of his accurate observations on his personal blog describing the criminal BLM/Antifa/Anarchist terrorism continuing in Seattle WA and Portland OR. His blog narrative of his ‘2 hour walk’ through the decimated and abandoned streets of downtown Seattle is chillingly accurate… and that is what precipitated his retaliatory firing by ohhh-so-politically-correct KNKX’s fascist management. Cliff has just discovered what many others have experienced over the years for being insufficiently supportive of Climate Alarmism and politically correct (PC) thought.

At the same time, I can’t fathom Cliff Mass’ apology for stating his observations in appropriately accurate, if chilling, terms. He was abusively fired for exercising his 1st Amendment rights to free speech and abusively excoriated by many who had been ‘fans’ on his blog … yet he feels compelled to apologize to his abusers? Apparently, Cliff has not yet fully shed his own PC reflex to kowtow to liberal indoctrination and retaliatory actions from their ‘brown shirt’ enforcers. I guess, like Michael Shellenberger’s own progression to harsh reality, Cliff Mass’ reality trip is still a work in progress. As the saying goes, a new conservative is just a liberal that has been mugged. Let’s help and encourage Cliff to shed his remaining cognitive myopia and achieve real acuity.

““At KNKX, we value high-quality, factual information in our news programming and we aim to present an array of voices that reflect our region.”

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Oh wait, they are serious. Let me laugh some more!

If the modern media values “high-quality, factual information”, we would have the truth about global warming, COVID-19, and leftist politicians. No, NPR has absolutely no value or love for “high-quality, factual information”. That is just the lie they tell to make people think they are neutral. The modern media has as much value of real “high-quality, factual information” as Stalin did for the lives of Ukrainians.

One of the quickest ways to make someone angry, and I mean really really angry, is to be correct. Whenever you see such a quick reaction, it is either because someone was right or someone went too far.

“High-quality, factual information” is exactly what Cliff Mass provided, on his blog narrative of his 2 hour walk though the decimated streets of Seattle. KNKX and all Puget Sound area media should nominate him for a Pulitzer Prize!

I read somewhere that PBS or NPR has, over the years, interviewed 183 experts on climate change, not one of them a skeptic.

The truth may hurt, but it doesn’t make it any less true.
What a shameful thing to put Cliff through.
I may not always agree with him, but I do know he is one of the good guys.

I noticed an interesting comment in discussion of KNKX’s announcement:

https://www.knkx.org/post/knkx-stop-airing-weather-cliff-mass-effective-immediately#comment-5023238856

It says:

Apparently there is a KNKX ‘virtual’ board meeting coming up next Wednesday on 8/12/2020. It is open to the public although the registration site is not working. If you are able to get in to the call, you may be able to get your voices heard. Or contact the board of directors individually prior to the meeting.

https://www.knkx.org/board-directors

Those of you in WA might want to “attend” (virtually). As the commenter says, there’s a “Register Here” link on the https://www.knkx.org/board-directors page, but it’s not currently working, but hopefully they’ll fix it by Wednesday.

Godwin-ing does not help any discussion. If you want to fire every one who has ever Godwin-ed you have a day job. I guess being a weatherman kind of restricts your scope of expression and this was most likely part of the job description, the public should associate you with sunshine not with politics.

These are, unfortunately, not limited to weather forecasting and politics, and, while the latter has been imputed with a general sense of acceptable distortions and correlations, it does not excuse its integration. Ironically, this is NPR’s modus operandi and downfall.

That assumes they have a standard that they follow fair in all cases. The only standard the woke/left have is double standards. (IE rules for thee but not more me). As long as the comparisons to Hilter are against people they don’t like (IE Trump) they’re fine and dandy and not a cause for firing. Make the same comparison against someone they do and it’s cancel time for you.

Accurate analogies are always useful, even if the squeamish don’t agree.
As to getting fired because you delved into politics, I’d be a lot more sympathetic if that standard were being applied evenly. We have reporters openly disparaging conservative, even on air, and they are cheered, not fired.

August 9, 2020 10:49 am

Throwing out the “anti-Semitic” card when there clearly is no anti-Semitism is an attempt to shut down public discussion. The Left does not want the substance to be discussed, as it exposes their lies.

As for Seattle and all those small businesses, many won’t re-open. Those owners who do, after filling damage claims with insurance companies, will get shocked at policy renewal time this fall by huge policy premium increases or out right policy cancellations if the insurance company deems the risk too high.
The insurance companies are covering the insured losses, but they are also taking notes on what the cities and their leaders are doing. Calls to Defund the Police if carried out by city councils and Mayors increase risk of loss immensely and thus they will price policy premiums accordingly. Already slammed by $15/hr minimum wage ordinances, the insurance premium spike will keep many businesses closed and/or move to business friendlier cities.

Leftists want to keep these facts secret:

National Socialists were Leftists, as was revealed by their 1920 party platform, “the 25 points.” Hitler’s objection to Marxism was Marx’s Jewish blood. Other than that, he admired Marx.

Leftists lie anytime they feel like it, often accusing opponents of doing something they, themselves, are already doing or want to do. (Projection)

The Democrat party is full of racists and anti-Semites and always has been.

Leftists’ goal is to take control of every possible organization that has assets or power. They have largely accomplished this, particularly the major “foundations.” Yes, this is a conspiracy, and some conspiracy theories are real.

Republicans rarely can find work at major universities.

In numbers, the Far-Right is a small fraction of the Far-Left.

Generally, there are more corrupt Democrats than Republicans.

In the big cities, vote fraud is a way of life.

Great list! Here is another fact they are keeping secret. ALL of their issues are false-flag operations, designed to divert our attention from the fact that their only real goal is to overthrow Western Civilization to make way for their ‘socialist utopia’, with them in charge of course!

August 9, 2020 2:24 pm

It’s a bit like Kristallnacht, yes. But it’s more like the riots in Munich at the beginning of the nazi rise to power, before that chap with the mustache got to be Chancellor.

Early days yet. They have found out just how much they can get away with (probably a lot more than they ever imagined). They will be back.

Cliff Mass is paying the price of speaking truthfully in a post-truth world.

The title is a bit demeaning. Cliff Mass is a professor of Atmospheric Sciences at UW. While he is still sort of a warmist, he constantly debunks alarmist nonsense.

I posted a link to a similar article in Tips and Notes a couple days ago.

I also mentioned that Dr. Mass had an interview with a Seattle talk radio host Dori Monson on KIRO radio. During the interview, Mass mentioned that people at 350.org (Weepy Bill McKibben’s organization) tried to get him fired from NPR some months ago, because he wasn’t sufficiently alarmist in his climate related material.

August 9, 2020 3:52 pm

As well as the Kristallnacht level of destruction in Seattle, Democrat/Leftist inspired censorship and propaganda has come well up to Nazi levels too. I like the idea that NPR stands for Nazi Propaganda Radio as iut seems entirely appropriate.

KNKX is not just a Tacoma station. It has satellite stations in Olympia, Seattle (in my neighborhood), Bremerton, Sedro Wooly, and one other place. Its byline is “Jazz, blues, and NPR news.” Its jazz announcers are excellent, as is its selection of “world-class jazz.”

Until three (?) years ago its call letters were KPLU, for Pacific Lutheran University. It had a pledge drive, raised $7 million, and became independent. But more beholden to its likely-woke donors, and thus less hospitable to Maas. He likely wouldn’t have been hired in the first place under the current regime.

(What did he say in his apology, BTW?)

Liberals hate the truth. They want to control the narrative and hide the truth. Their tactics ARE eerily similar to the Nazi Brown Shirts.

I keep holding my breath…eventually these anarchists are going to pick on the wrong set of people and there is going to be some real violence. The police need to do their dang job, and the politicians need to back the polices up before this all explodes.

Still a mystery is how the federal government can and must respond to these idiots in City Councils and Mayors’ offices around the U.S. who let the sub-humans take over their streets in order to burn and loot – then blame the troops who do respond. Hard to see how we’re a country of laws anymore.

Mr. Mass writes beautifully… intelligently enough to be fired by NPR, which should be among his most prized accolades. His commentary should be cc’d to anyone who’ll listen, and published by any conservative outlets with b*lls.

Somebody give this man a job that’s worthy of him.

I think Cliff Mass is quite correct in seeing an equivalence between today’s widespread destruction carried out by anarchist thugs and Germany’s Kristallnacht. Americans need to wake up to what is happening in this country. Mass is not the only one to make the comparison. Her is an editorial by Stewart Weiss in the Jerusalem Post in which he makes to same comparison at the end of the 3’rd paragraph:
