Billing her as anti-Greta sends the wrong message. Neglecting to use her name (first name) is also impersonal.

Greta suffers from ClimatePhobia and refuses to answer any questions related the Science and Climate.

It’s great to see young adults using crital thinking and a reasoned approach when discussing a topic as complex as Climate and Climate states of change.

She should not be dismissed out of hand nor ever be ridiculed for her effort.

As clever and articulate as this young lady is, she didn’t write the script she’s reading from.

Her point about child mental health and scare stories are well founded but the insight and language used is not that of someone of her tender years.

If we are to accuse Greta’s parents of child abuse then we should condemn this young ladies parents as well.

Having said all that, I still think it’s a great and heartfelt plea from a genuinely intelligent young lady.

Reply to  HotScot
December 6, 2019 12:08 pm

I would not be so sure of that.
I do not know how old she is, but she appears old enough to read and understand what she is reading, and for some of that material to be complex, nuanced, arcane, and/or highly specialized and detailed information.
Why would a teenager not know how alarmist propaganda, blared at children day after day for their whole lives, could have a drastic and highly negative impact on the mental health of those children?
Suicides and drug usage and drug overdose deaths…rates of these are soaring, as are rates of depression. And one might infer from this that there is a great deal of hopelessness manifested in the day to day thoughts and attitudes of such kids.
I would be surprised if any teenager could be unaware of this.
Even if she did not know any other kids, she could find out about it the same way many adults have found out about it…reading the news and blogs and other sources of information.
But my guess is nearly all teens have personal experience with these issues.
I was 16 in 1977, and by then I knew people who had died from overdoses, from suicide, who were depressed, miserable and hopeless…and that was with far less access to information than young people have today.
There are plenty of things that young people still have to learn as they grow older, but plenty many of them already know…and some even have the ability to place some perspective on complex issues.

@Albert, I agree it does not help the science, but sensible voices from teens are important to the common conception of CAGW. The kids these days are mostly brought up by the Internet’s social media. Most people go along with feelings, rather than dry facts.

If you think opinions from children do not or can not help anyone, do you also think that someone like Greta cannot and does not hurt anyone?
I flat out reject this and related notions.
Of course the opinion of an articulate young person can help someone.
It is easy to see that hearing someone like this could be incredibly encouraging for another young person who has heard nothing but propaganda and doomsday alarmism from everyone they know and every news source they read.
I have no idea why anyone could think a strong dose of reality is useless in a world awash in fantasy and senseless propaganda and mindless exaggerations of what are speculative fear mongering ideas to begin with.
In case you missed it, millions of kids have gotten a whole bunch of free days off from school to parade down the street and chant about the ridiculous crap that Greta spews.
The antidote for bullshit is straight talk, the cure for panic is careful and rational thought, and the remedy for senseless alarmism is the simple facts and truth.
Which is exactly what this young lady is communicating in her videos.

And BTW…notice how she did not even need to leave her home to send her message out to the world.
If people share this video, as many people could hear her as can hear someone who spends weeks, months and years travelling around the world to stand on a soap box to speak to us.
If Greta really wanted to have a “carbon neutral” life while getting her message across, she could do it without leaving her house too.

There’s something unseemly about putting up kids to read scripts, written for them by self-interested adults (on either side of the CAGW issue) for political gain. Kids learn by experience of course but mostly in their formative years they acquire knowledge taught to them by adults.

A very rational approach from this young lady.
What is scary is the fact, someone as rational as she obviously is, has been brainwashed into thinking CO2 has a role to play in climate change. She is on the right side of the debate, but still displays the disgraceful received knowledge pumped into her, by an academic system overtaken with mass hysteria and propaganda regarding the role CO2 plays in the climate.
She is extremely brave putting herself into the public domain. She is a sensible young lady prepared to challenge the “orthodoxy. I hope she goes into science and studies the physics (as best we know it), that drives changes in climate.
We need more young people to start pushing back against the media fixation with climate scares and lies. Who knows maybe one day the academics might start to do the same?

Schools are already full mental. Such a shame… Each and everyone, save your kids, tell them the truth !

Monday: Spouse receives call from school to sharply remind that electric scooters are not allowed as transport means for schoolkids. Even street legal ones.

Consecutively the school janitor was instructed to place an anti-theft chain on my kid’s transportation and we’re invited to come and recover the key from the school administration to remove the offending transportation from the bicycle parking shed.

Called the cops later that day. Yes, this is an illegal property appropriation case, sure, unless I want to press charges I can simply remove the offending lock, just take pictures and don’t hurt myself in the process. Call back if complications arise. Thanks, roger that.

Called school to ask their transport pollution reduction policies and state my intentions. High-pitched noise ensued. By the facts, asked to cease and desist the teaching of any green transport topics. The high-pitched noise went volume 11 and an octave higher.

Departing kids sure cheered when dad and his cordless grinder came to rectify the situation by the late afternoon. No news since.

So Carl (and America) never demand someone to speak English, please.

Report from Madrid:
http://enb.iisd.org/climate/cop25/enb/4dec.html

On Wednesday, delegates at the Chile/Madrid Climate Change Conference looked up from their technical negotiations to take stock of climate action. The technical part of the stocktake on the implementation and ambition of climate action before 2020 launched in the afternoon.

Parties reviewed the work of the UNFCCC related to mitigation efforts, and supporting enhancing implementation and ambition. Many found the event sobering, with civil society denouncing a “lost decade” of mitigation and climate financing efforts, and some parties noting that the needs of developing countries remain unmet.Appropriately timed, several events drew attention to the role of science.

The Chilean Presidency hosted science ministers (and their equivalents) from around the world in a virtual meeting to discuss how they can contribute to the development of countries’ climate pledges. [Science Ministers are now scientists?].

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) held an event to better understand the IPCC’s Special Report on Climate Change and Land. Opening the event, the UNFCCC Executive Secretary underscored that “the facts are telling us that we are impacting the support systems keeping us alive.”

Technical negotiations continued, particularly for finance, loss and damage, and Article 6 (market and non-market mechanisms). Article 6 negotiators reviewed new texts in the morning, which some thought looked “promising.” The afternoon negotiations seemingly supported this optimism, as delegates worked constructively to move “forward ever, backward never.”

Ok this young lady may have had help putting this together (or maybe she is very talented?). She is reading off some form of prompter, but she has done an excellent job. I will certainly be passing this on to one or two young people I know of who have been swamped by despair, exactly as this young lady has described it. They need all the news about other kids fighting this stuff.
It took me days to get across what this kid has succeeded in doing in 8 minutes. The more kids like this, the better.
It doesn’t matter in the slightest that she professes to have some belief in the (absurd) current trademark climate change creed. EVERY kid has to do this because if they don’t have safety of numbers, eg enough mates who think the same and can put up a fight, or parents who can inflict serious damage on their persecutors, they need to watch for attacks by teachers, peers, social media etc. No room for being specious. These kids are in a war zone.
It is the same as spoken by Haile Selassie, and recorded by Bob Marley:
“Until the philosophy
Which hold one race superior and another
Inferior
Is finally
And permanently
Discredited
And abandoned
Everywhere is war
Me say war”

It has moved on.

The longest journey begins with but a single step.
We did not get where we are in one giant leap, and it seems very unlikely this current mess will be cleaned up in one fell swoop either.
In order to learn facts, it is the unfortunate reality that many people need to first unlearn a lot of falsehoods.
While some might have an instant epiphany, and have the scales fall from their yes and reality to present itself suddenly and fully formed and all at once, for many others the journey towards true understanding will be a longer one.
The most important step is understanding that one has been lied to, that much of what people say and what one may believe to be the case is in fact not so, and so to simply be willing to learn and to become teachable.
I see in this person a willingness to accept that all is not as people are being taught, and that a skeptical attitude will be required to know and be able to separate nonsense from reality.
And that is, IMO, a good start.

Once a person becomes aware of the fact that one third to one half of the population has a head full of fake news and nonsensical propaganda, the journey towards truth and true knowledge is typically quite direct and relentless.
On may not understand the full depth and breadth of the lies straight from the get-go.
And that is fine.
Because although it seems to be disappointingly rare that someone does a full 180° switch in the things they believe to be true, once one does start to make this change from darkness and lies, to the light and the truth, I know of no one who turns and walks back into the darkness again.

Kids do pick up vibes. I still remember not being able to sleep during the Cuban missile crisis. I picked it all up from radio and my parents conversation. Next day the whole school was tense. I was 12 . This was as about as far away as one can get: New Zealand.

Teachers need to be told.

It would be better if the “anti-Greta” had a name. She does seem to be far more intelligent and articulate than Greta, and does cite some previous predictions (likely made before she was born) which were not realized to back up her reasoning that the current scaremongering is unjustified, meaning that she has read some history.

Young people, due to their inexperience, can be easily manipulated into thinking they have discovered something that no one else noticed, despite thousands of years of human history. The “anti-Greta” has been taught to draw on the experience of older people and to think for herself. Her parents deserve a lot of credit.

Ya know, all this is getting to be beyond hilarious, like this new one:

Can we impeach CO2?

No, but maybe it will be exonerated if progressive socialists are kept from achieving global power.

Thank God she has a British accent — so much more theatrical and dramatic.

Now if she’ll just use the phrase, “How dare you”… .

How many carbon credits has Greta and family been able to charge to ther peoples accounts?
That should be fodder for muckrakers, no?

What controls the climate?

Who here thinks CO2 is the control knob?

Who here thinks CO2 has a position on the control knob?

Who here thinks CO2 is not even on the control knob?

Are you ready to put up or are you going to shut up?

I grew up when the threat of nuclear war was very real. Neither I, nor any of my contemporaries, thought we might die, even though there was abundant evidence that that was possible. The threat passed, and the world went on. Rinse and repeat.

Some brainwashing has already taken place as the comments on CO2 were and will always be false. CO2 is plant food and I can’t say enough a staple of life on this planet, without it we die. New BS this morning all over every search engine the oxygen is leaving the oceans and we are all going to die but this time fish first. Just find the whole thing sad and funny and in the end just stupid, please give us a break from the madness but alas it will not take place until utopia has been established and I am in my all gray outfit. Happy Holidays everyone

I agree with everything she says! I think the most effective response is: adaptation is way cheaper than mitigation. Even if everything the warmunists have been saying is correct (and we know it’s not), all the changes (if any) are changing so slowly that everyone will be able to get out of the way. Climate change will not happen rapidly enough to outrun anybody, and that includes the feeble, lame, infirm and even outright invalid. So everyone (especially governments) save your money and wait and see. If something does happen (and I doubt that it will) you’ll have the money to respond properly. And if nothing happens you’ll have some extra money, spend it however you like! (You can thank me later.)

Well, i think that we have to do something for the planet but now it’s only about money, in Antwerp you may not enter in the town when you have an old car, but if you pay 60 euro the same car becomes clean. Now in Madrid 25000 people are there to talk about the climate, have they all come by feat? And at the other side of the word, are they doing anything. For the moment it’s only Europe because they needed the most money . I am 69 years old and I haven’t seen o lot of different between 60 years ago and now.I support your meaning.
