NYC Considering Banning HOT DOGS And Other Processed Meats Over Climate Change

By EMILY ZANOTTI
April 25, 2019

New York City may be on the verge of outlawing its signature encased meat, the hot dog, alongside other “processed meats,” in a bid to make New Yorkers more climate conscious.

Radio station Z100 reports that Mayor Bill de Blaiso signed into law New York’s own version of the “Green New Deal” last week, and part of the NYC GND involves teaching New Yorkers to make healthy, environmentally friendly food choices by banning specific, “problematic” dishes from city menus.

“The plan,” Z100 says, “will cut purchases of red meat by 50 percent in its city-controlled facilities such as hospitals, schools, and correctional facilities. The new commitment builds off of the Meatless Mondays campaign that was adopted by all NYC schools in 2017.”

New Yorkers will be able to keep their precious hot dog street carts, and tourists will still be able to fill up on dirty water dogs in Times Square — at least for now. The Green New Deal only prohibits city facilities from buying and serving hot dogs and other processed meats in bulk to serve in city-run cafeterias, mostly located in city office buildings, jails, and schools.

What I don’t get, why is processed meat supposed to be less environmentally friendly than unprocessed meat?

Processed meat normally has non meat fillers, like breadcrumbs or other grains or cereals, and traditionally includes animal parts which might otherwise be discarded. I don’t get how this is somehow supposed to be less eco-friendly than say eating beef steak and throwing the rest of the animal away.

The radical Democrats are not helping their re-election prospects with all these crazy plans they are proposing.

That’s bad for Democrats, but good for the country since the Democrat craziness will result in more conservatives being elected.

The Democrats just keep getting farther and farther out into Left Field. They are all climbing on the Crazy Train.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Well OK – NOW they’ve gone too far.

“It was the best of times, it was the wurst of times…”

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.”

I thank you that I was not eating any processed meat products nor imbibing any infused Camellia sinensis leaves mixed with full fat dairy products as my computer and screen would now be covered in it.
Thank you for a great laugh.
I can see business plummeting at the New York run centres and local free market enterprise picking up a lot of trade.

So what will they ban tomorrow – or the next day? Or the day after that?

Tom the leftists have a grander plan and a method to their madness. They are in no hurry in the steady march to totalitarianism. This radical advance and retreat has a purpose. 3 steps forward, 2 steps back.

This tactic serves a dual strategic purpose: First, advance until voices of protest arise, then back down but not quite all the way. After all, the moderate is conciliatory. One of their tenants is compromise. Something the Left never does without first moving so far forward that the compromise advances their cause. Second it provides fodder for the Public Schools, Universities and Propaganda Press to instill the notion in our youth that theirs on the left, is the correct path and musters majority support from the Future Voters of America.

Note the cleverness of simultaneously having other voices on the left call for voter rights for felons (3 steps forward). The moderates will claim victory when they beat back the felon vote by allowing for compromise on lowering the voting age for non-felons to 16. Voila 2 steps back yet their advance continues. 2 more generations and felons will have the vote. They are the unrelenting wave on a cliff face.

Thanks, Bill.
You and others in this thread have illuminated some of the methods used to move us to tyranny. It isn’t enough to identify the methods used by the usurpers of power, we must also explore their motivations, if we have any hope at all of keeping at least some of humanity, free from the bonds of the totalitarians.

It seems that the more implausible the idea which is fed to us, the faster a cause rallies behind that idea. Neither the sycophant pseudo- barons like de Blasio, nor the captured press corps, originate those ideas which they promote and defend. Those ideas are the product of a comparative handful of puppet masters behind the scenes, who are themselves, the very worst sort of human beings. It isn’t enough to just apply the standard labels of sociopath and psychopath to those would- be rulers. They know who and what they are and labels don’t bother them.

Those dark masters are nearly incapable of feeling actual pleasure, or pain, but derive their comfort from their fascination with the ease with which they successfully move the goalposts of human thought and manipulate the masses, gathering throngs of unthinking supporters, along the way. For them, it’s the only thrill around.

There is so much I could say that a comment board is too small. Allow me to plant a couple seeds Alan.
In the U.S. think of these Puppet Masters as Old Money. The descendants of the Robber Barons. They have allowed Nouveau Riche to join the ranks over the past century but only minimally and selectively. Recall that Bill Gates was called to task by the U.S. Congress. He was dressed down for his maverick riches and called to kiss the ring. Not the Puppets ring (the politicians) but rather pay homage to the faceless Puppet Masters. He dutifully received his instructions and changed his behavior.
“They who shall not be named” while holding 90% of the countries net worth are small in number and are motivated to maintain iron grip control over the masses out of fear of rebellion. They are the founding fathers of the “Progressive” Movement which hides its racist, misogynist, phobic nature behind a mask of the Social Justice Warrior. Think of the D,C, Swamp as the moat that surrounds their castle walls. From the castle they create their Frankenstein Hobgoblins to threaten the villagers. Recall Mencken’s clear eyed observations as we traversed the first half of the twentieth century: “The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false face for the urge to rule it.”
Go back and read Aldous Huxley’s” Brave New World” if you wish to understand the Society they envision for our great unwashed descendants. Drone automatons who will happily vote for these Puppet Master’s form of benevolent dictatorship for the plantation managers on the college campuses have prepared them for their future fate.

Well they certainly are demonstrating that with extreme prejudice.
An irrational concept practiced to the detriment of self and society, amounts to virtual self-flagellation. Religious mania is about the only description that fits this lunacy.

Not everybody can be this stupid. I wonder if this is cost cutting merely disguised as religious lunacy?

Self-flagellation might seem like a derogatory term, but it is the very core of the problem here.

Self-flagellation was used, and is still used today in some countries by the ultra religious as a form of self punishment for their perceived sins.

That is exactly the motive that the environmental movement promotes to the general public. A self loathing, a sin against nature, and we must pay for our perceived sins. The fact that they reap the gratuity money is incidental (not to them of course).

You forget, the other religion of the Left besides CAGW is “Health.” “Health” is a euphemism for self-flagellation and mortifying the flesh to assuage wealth guilt– as a virtue competition. The epitome of this performance is to be conspicuously seen in public running until you can’t breathe, then consuming a kale “smoothie” to carpet-bomb your colon, then go bend yourself into inhuman curlicues on a pastel mat in a roomful of fellow travelers in spandex sausage casings. Status symbol is the body itself; the more emaciated, the better. They push a “plant-based diet” because that’s all THEY eat–when your philosophy is anorexia to Save The Planet, enjoyable calories are the mark of a stupid, un-Woke deplorable. This is why DeBlasio’s motorcade crosses the city to take him to the gym (holy temple!) daily.

CAGW hysteria is just more evidence this regimen is quickly shrinking their plant-based brains.

At some point in the future (momentum is building, it may not be far away) it will be realised that forcing people onto a diet high in carbohydrate & effectively devoid of saturated fat is in fact a Death Sentence

A long slow death through obesity, mental derangement, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, hearts attacks & strokes, cancer and finally dementia via Lewy Body Syndrome.

When that dam bursts – is it even conceivable that there’s enough money in this entire universe to compensate them?

CAGW orthodoxy punishes researchers who find inconvenient facts. It corrupts science. Earlier we had the same kind of thing with diet science. Ancel Keys produced the orthodoxy and research that contradicted that did not get published. Doing such research was a career killer. example

When people accept climate orthodoxy, they are ignoring the well documented history of diet orthodoxy. The lesson is that activist scientists (that should be an oxymoron) are not to be trusted.

Baloney.

Here are the facts about hot dog ingredients:

“Common hot dog sausage ingredients include:[28][not in citation given]

Meat trimmings and fat, e.g. mechanically separated meat, pink slime, meat slurry
Flavorings, such as salt, garlic, and paprika
Preservatives (cure) – typically sodium erythorbate and sodium nitrite

Mechanically separated meat (MSM), mechanically recovered/reclaimed meat (MRM), or mechanically deboned meat (MDM) is a paste-like meat product produced by forcing pureed or ground beef, pork, mutton, turkey or chicken, under high pressure through a sieve or similar device to separate the bone from the edible meat tissue.”

Hmmmmm, the Diggers and levellers, arguably the equivalent of today’s Green Fanatics were given short shrift by the Protectorate.

As for a Puritan Parliament, whilst the Protectorate had to lean that way due to segments of public opinion, the Lord Protector was to the end eager to keep as many on board as possible, and consequently limited the power of the extremists.

When you cut through all of the idiosyncratic concepts of the left, it comes down to one thing.
Someone has an anxiety and thinks that it can be relieved by forcing someone else to do something they would not otherwise do.
A revulsion of meat is an example.
In Europe in the 1930s someone was anxious about race. The attempt was to make a perfect race as well as land space.
That was national socialism. International socialists were out to create the “perfect” man, and murdered some 100 million before the passion exhausted itself.
Now the control freaks are determined to set the temperature of the nearest planet at the “perfect” temperature. To 1.5 or 2.0 degrees above an arbitrary level. Such precision!
Another incredible combination of ambition and audacity.
The really scary part is that such peoples’ anxieties can never be relieved.
