Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez released a video depicting how the Green New Deal would turn the U.S. into a Democratic socialist utopia, complete with a bullet train from New York City to D.C.
The video depicts a future where the Democratic Party takes the Senate and White House in 2020 and enacts a Green New Deal that ends up creating a “society that was not only modern and wealthy, but dignified and humane too,” Ocasio-Cortez says in the video.
Ocasio-Cortez says Americans need to close their eyes and “imagine” a Green New Deal society before it can happen. Meanwhile, energy experts and economists are skeptical the Green New Deal is possible or even desirable.
“We need to be able to close our eyes and imagine it,” Ocasio-Cortez says in the seven-minute cartoon. “We can be whatever we have the courage to see.”

Ocasio-Cortez introduced the Green New Deal in February, bungling the bill’s roll-out and creating confusion over her signature legislation. Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey introduced a companion bill in the Senate.
The Green New Deal calls for achieving “net-zero” greenhouse gas emissions in 10 years through a massive green energy build-up, including high-speed rail and retrofitting every building. The video comes after the Green New Deal fell flat in Congress. The Green New Deal bill got zero votes in the Senate when it was brought to the floor, and parts of it were rejected by House Democrats during a committee hearing — including a “no” vote from Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez teamed up with Justice Democrats, anti-capitalist author Naomi Klein and The Intercept, a news organization. Ocasio-Cortez said she’d been collaborating “for months” to get the video finished.
Part of the video focuses on Ileana, who Ocasio-Cortez calls “a true child of the Green New Deal.” Ileana gets a union job restoring wetlands in Louisiana as part of the Green New Deal — at this point there’s a labor shortage because of how massive an undertaking the Green New Deal is, says Ocasio-Cortez.

Ileana eventually becomes a teacher, then gets elected to Ocasio-Cortez’s seat in Congress. Ocasio-Cortez is recounting all of this while riding the high-speed rail from New York City to Washington, D.C.
Of course, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies, according to Ocasio-Cortez. Sometime in the future, Hurricane Sheldon hits southern Florida and “parts of Miami went underwater for the last time,” the congresswoman says.
However, Ocasio-Cortez says Americans were “lucky” to have enacted a Green New Deal and moved away from fossil fuels when they did — though climate models show the Green New Deal would have no material impact on projected warming.
“But as we battled the floods, fires and droughts, we knew how lucky we were to have started acting when we did,” Ocasio-Cortez says.
Someone is going ‘primary’ her, right? That HAS to be the plan.
Ocasio-Cortez’s statements and now this video would do Hugo Chavez proud. Promise everything wonderful in order to get elected, then when it falls apart, blame the opposition and hopefully imprison them. So far she is not capable of that 3rd step but in 2024 and later she can run for the office of El Presidente. That’s not too many years away.
Saw this on another blog. I blame 100% the parents and grandparents in this country who basically handed their kids over to the government to raise and own. I cannot fathom how so many people can care so very, very little about their children. It’s horrifying. I read about this crap in Russia when I was 6 years old and now I’m watching the fools and lazy jerks here destroy their children and America’s future with it. How any nation that so despises and deplores its own offspring can ever be anything but living hell is beyond me (see NK and Venezuela). Americans flat out asked for this. They demand it and support it because opposition is too much work. Any species that tosses out it’s offspring will die—not from climate change, but from natural law. AOC is promoting human extinction.
So first we kill the fossil fuel industry, destroying trillions of dollars of wealth and throwing 10-20 million people out of work. Those jobless people spent their last dollars relocating to the sunny southwest to install solar panels or the windy midwest to install windmills. When those jobs play out because they’re temporary construction rather than permanent operational, jobs, they’ll have to start subsistence farming between the windmills and scrambling to eat the bats and birds knocked down by the blades before someone else gets that protein. The ones in the desert southwest can rest in the shade of the solar panels (because there is no water for growing food) until they die of dehydration , this leading off the drastic reduction in human population necessary to get down to the revised carrying capacity in the absence of modern centralized agriculture. AOC will never visit the desert 9f the central plains, so she’ll be able to preserve her illusions about a rich and prosperous society full of dignity and humanity.
No, we need to be able to open our eyes and wake-the-hell-up to technological reality.
Road map to tyrannical power:
1. Adopt a noble cause (the Earth’s biosphere)
2. Exaggerate the threat to the noble cause (climate crisis)
3. Propose the one and only solution to the threat (Green New Deal)
4. Vilify the opponents of your solution as if they opposed the nobel cause (happening ad nauseum)
5. Demand a sacrifice (usually freedom and wealth) to implement the only solution. (just starting)
The video is clearly propaganda for a new, socialist tyranny. All the good people in the video are people of color who have been ‘victimized’. All the bad people are depicted as white, wealthy, evil and oppressive. Even James Hansen (as pale as they come) is drawn with dark hands, so that he can be seen as one of the good guys. Almost nothing in the video corresponds to reality, even when it is addressing the past. It is filled with overt and subliminal propaganda in every way imaginable.
AOC is clearly seeking power, but without the wisdom or knowledge to wield it!

I wish she lived there by herself. Unfortunately, more and more people are joining her every day. The people behind AOC know what they are doing. The mistake we make is believing that the climate issue is ultimately a science issue, but that has never been the case. We are in an ideological war, fighting with scientific literacy, and we are greatly outnumbered. It’s like a chess master being thrown into an MMA cage. The chess master may be a whole lot smarter, but he is about to get his ass whipped.
Revolutions are fought and won by small minorities convincing the majority that what they are doing is okay. They don’t need the masses to fight. They just need the masses to stay out of their way. They do that with a constant stream of propaganda, just like AOC’s video.

This quasi-criminal enterprise must be forced to act within the bounds of the law. There are no legitimate powers to banish them. I’m willing to fight them on the legitimate battlefield of our system of laws and jurisprudence. If they persist in fighting outside the legal boundaries, they will find a layer of resistance that that will surprise them.
I have a really full and rewarding life to set aside to get fully involved. I’m just about done being civil and nice to other leftists in my social circles. At least one of my gloves is coming off.
Me and my leftist friends have only two remaining important concerns in common:
1.) The Illegitimate power of the ultra-wealthy. The Constitution tries to protect citizens from our own government…but there is nothing protecting U.S. Citizens from the illegitimate power of the ultra wealthy…international and domestic.
2.) Somewhere between 10 to 15% of our citizens will never be economically productive enough to be self sufficient. We need to find ways to elevate these fellow citizens BY SOME MEANS that doesn’t produce moral hazards that result in wasted lives…like we do now. The mystery of consciousness makes every individual sacred. I’m not willing to use these fellow citizens as political pawns like the Democrats do…destroying lives in the process. We need to find better solutions.

They ultra wealthy can keep their money. Hell, I don’t want the government to get their hands on any of it where it will all be wasted. Those folks really know how to optimize wealth creation. The more money they make = the more wealth they produced. That’s all great stuff. You can’t have too many Billionaires. The world economy is not a stupid zero sum game.
Spending that money surreptitiously to buy votes in Congress crosses a moral line. Concentrated power is always a risk to individual liberties. People (like Tom Steyer or the Koch brothers) who use their wealth *without full and open disclosure* to buy votes in Congress crosses a moral line…producing Illegitimate Power. I don’t like that. It corrupts representative government.
I want to be able to see an easily available list of the people who “own” (top 20 donors and the amounts) each House of Representatives candidate and Senator candidate before I vote for (or against) her or him in the ballot box…on the basis that I’d like to know who I’m REALLY voting for.
To wit…those who voted for AOC were NOT really voting for her. She was actively searched for, recruited, selected, groomed, promoted and trained (puppet strings attached) for the job…..but by whom? That isn’t good.

All of this can be traced back to the passage of the 17th Amendment which changed the way Senators get to Washington. The 17th eliminated the appointment of Senators by the States and made it a direct election by the people. The Senators are no longer the States safeguard against federal government over reach and intrusion into the States business but are now part of the money influenced swamp in Washington where loyalty is bought and paid for by the elite.

So far the only government system that has successfully created a “society that was not only modern and wealthy, but dignified and humane too,” are democratic republics with free market economies. Lots of them, in fact, from the U.S. to Western Europe, Japan and Korea.
The communists haven’t done it. Other socialists haven’t succeeded either. Not once. Neither have the fascists, Nazis, theocratic republics or oligarchies. Only free-market, democratic republics.
Sorry, AOC, it’s not as pretty as you would like it to be, because it allows people to fail, but it’s a whole lot more fair and offers better opportunities for success than all the others.

Land, labor and capital are finite, and when government hacks misallocate their efficient use, the potential economic growth and societal advancement is greatly curtailed, which ultimately ends in economic and societal collapse or, at least, greatly reduced standards of living and curtailed societal advancement.
Moreover, the government’s immoral and unethical initiation of force against individuals who oppose their policies is reprehensible.
