DOOM! “…the world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change” says Ocasio-Cortez

From the “anything goes when the media regurgitates every word you say” department comes this latest insanity from a woman who isn’t making any points among thinking people. Of course, we’ve heard these sorts of doomsday forecasts before, notably from doomster Al Gore who also said we have 12 years.

Excerpt transcript and video follows.

OCASIO-CORTEZ:

“And I think the part of it that is generational is that millennials and people, in gen z, and all these folks that come after us are looking up and we’re like, the world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change. You’re biggest issue, your biggest issue is how are going to pay for it? — and like this is the war, this is our world war II.

And I think for younger people looking at this are more like, how are we saying let’s take it easy when 3000 Americans died last year, how are we saying let’s take it easy when the end person died from our cruel and unjust criminal justice system? How are we saying take it easy, the America that we’re living in today is dystopian with people sleeping in their cars so they can work a second job without healthcare and we’re told to settle down. It’s a fundamental separation between that fierce urgency of now, the why we can’t wait that King spoke of.

That at some point this chronic reality do reach a breaking point and I think for our generation it reached that, I wished I didn’t have to be doing every post, but sometimes I just feel like people aren’t being held accountable. Until, we start pitching in and holding people accountable, I’m just gonna let them have it.”

But the hundred months doomsday has passed and I have adjusted to the doom scenario so why should I care?
You can only be doomed once or it is not a doom scenario. The biggest effect of the doomsday scenario is my heating bill has almost double its electrical component but wind turbines rather than climate did that.

“the world is gonna end in 12 years” taken literally is absurd. I don’t know or care what she really meant to say. If she said world as we know it is going to end in 12 years, that’s always possible, if by “world” we mean civilization or western civilization. But the cause won’t be climate change; one trigger to the cause might be the obsession with climate change.

She mentioned WW2, but no, this is our Civil War. The common enemy which unites us is not external and far away. The divisiveness has started, on a number of fronts. This is how civilizations fall apart.

This afternoon I’d like to pick up on that first thought of mine: When I was a kid and watched sci-fi movies set in a futuristic dystopia where dehumanized individuals are mere chattels of an unseen all-powerful machine policed by commissars in identikit variety-show tinfoil suits in a land where technology has advanced but liberty has retreated, I always found the caper less interesting than the unseen backstory: How did they get there from here? And, as I say to Tucker above, we’re now in the getting-there-from-here phase:

Things are changing very fast. And, if we don’t fully understand why they’re changing and where they’re heading, we’re going to end up in one of those dehumanized dystopias – and very soon.

Remember WW1. Too many causes to list, but there was one trigger: an anarchist assassin.

The problem is the nutballs on both sides, on that we can agree. Supporting Russia and fascism is not better than supporting anarchy and mob rule.

Since nobody supports Russia, and only the left support fascists, what is your point?

Really? Then stop supporting both, Trump opposes Russia and fascism and has done more to damage Putin personally and Russia politically in 24 months than Obama did in 8 years, Bush did in 8 years or Clintoon did in 8 years. Get over the lies and wake up.

Re WW1 – not so much of a trigger, more a keenly pursued pretext to proceed. If it hadn’t been Archduke Ferdinand, another excuse would have been found or manufactured

An apology for redistributive change by another name. The proponents of “one-child” were always more honest in their motive, method, and outcome than their “selective-child” counterparts. Just say what you want, without corrupting science, morality, ethics, culture, and everything else touched by your euphemisms, emotional appeals, equivocations, projections, and conflations.

What is it with all these people who think they’re insightful with above-average intelligence have the same bad ideas. When Occasional-Cortex describes the US as “dystopian” you can see the utopian image she has in her mind. They all talk to each other and marvel at how brilliant they are and they have it all worked out in their brilliant minds how their socialist polices will deliver prosperity and justice.

It’s like they have no idea how things work in the world. I’ll wager there is no group of people who over-estimate their own intellect as much as socialists.

UPDATE: Rep. Ocasio-Cortez responded to Grabien’s post. She writes, “For some reason GOP seems to think this is a gaffe, but it’s actually a generational difference. Young people understand that climate change is an existential threat: 3,000 Americans died in Hurricane María.

The 3,000 deaths is an estimate using modeling from the George Washington University’s Milken Institute School of Public Health. It is not actual deaths caused by the hurricane. Rather it estimates what the toll would have been had their not been mass emigration before and after the hurricane.

From the report:

“We developed a series of
generalized linear models (GLMs) with monthly data
for the pre-hurricane period of July 2010-August
2017, accounting for trends in population size
and distribution over this period in terms of age,
sex, seasonality and residence by municipal level
of socioeconomic development. Our estimates
also considered Puerto Rico’s consistently high
emigration during the prior decade and dramatic
population displacement after the hurricane. We
used the model results to project forward mortality
that would have been expected if the hurricane had
not occurred for two scenarios—if the population
had not changed (census scenario), and explicitly
accounting for massive post-hurricane population
displacement from the island (displacement
scenario). “

What AOC is actually saying is that young people don’t have the intellectual capacity to understand that hurricanes and extreme weather fatalities have occurred long before they were born and are nothing new.

It also exemplifies her lack of rational thought. She admits 3,000 is not the actual deaths but rather what” would have occurred” had there not been mass emigration before and after the hurricane.

What never enters in to her thought process is “mass emigration” would not have been possible with sailing ships; and unfortunately airplanes do not operate on wind or solar power.

Does she think PR would have been able to recover to the extent it has since the hurricane without fossil fueled equipment?

Her ignorance is mindblowing.

What AOC is saying is that everyone in the world will die if the United States doesn’t raise taxes on its citizens.

What you should tell her is that “If that’s the case (world ending in 12 years) there is NOTHING we can do to avert that from happening.”

Also, I would like to know what she means by ‘world is gonna end’ and ‘address.

“at some point this chronic reality do reach a breaking point ”
Is that a misquote or attempteth mine lady a Shakepearean to be? If the latter then surely it should be:
“at some point this chronic reality do reacheth a breaking point” Or “at some point this chronic reality doeth reach a breaking point” with ‘my lieges’ added on.

Well, even the New York Times seems to have ceased reporting on this …numbskull. A quick search on their website for “OCASIO-CORTEZ” shows no articles since December 10, 2018. If the favored mouthpiece for the Democrats/Liberals is ignoring her at this point (and in her own home state), then it is safe to assume that like, she’s been, like, relegated to the ‘facepalm’ file.
She will self-destruct in the very near future and nobody is going to come to her rescue. Hopefully a lesson in ‘buyer’s remorse’ for those who were inept enough to vote for her in the first place.
