French President Emmanuel Macron has launched a new website which offers senior US climate researchers up to €1.5 Million (almost USD $1.7 million) each to move to France. My question to US climate scientists – what are you waiting for?
‘Your new homeland’: France’s Macron launches website to woo US scientists

French President Emmanuel Macron this week launched a website which aims to encourage US scientists and researchers frustrated with President Donald Trump’s position on climate change to move to France.
The website “Make Our Planet Great Again” was a clear dig at Trump and his June 1 announcement that he would withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement, but also made good on an appeal Macron made back in February.
The website said senior university faculty members, but also junior researchers and PhD candidates, were eligible to move to France to work on climate change, earth system science or energy transition projects, promising generous financing and help with moving to the country.
It said senior researchers could apply for grants up €1.5 million, which would cover researchers’ salaries, as well as compensation for additional staff and work expenses. Junior researchers could apply for grants of up to €1 million.
“There is no restriction on your husband / wife working in France,” the site reassured scientists, adding: “If you have children, note that French public schools are free, and the tuition fees of universities and “grandes écoles” [highly competitive French universities] are very low compared to the American system.”
…
A statement from the first page of the new website;
TO ALL RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS:
On the 1st of June, President Donald Trump decided to withdraw the United States from the Paris agreement, which gathered more than 190 countries united against climate change.
This decision is unfortunate but it only reinforced our determination. Don’t let it weaken yours.
We are ONE planet and Together, we can make a difference.
France has always led fights for human rights. Today, more than ever, we are determined to lead (and win!) this battle on climate change.
Emmanuel Macron, President of France.
The planet needs your innovative skills. So, are you IN to change (literally!) our daily lives and make our planet great again?

The offer seems genuine. €1.5 Million is serious money, just under USD 1.7 million. The offer for junior researchers is also very generous. I don’t know how many positions are open, so if you are thinking of accepting President Macron’s offer, best to get in quickly.
Paris is an expensive city, but there are plenty of much less expensive French cities which host serious grandes écoles institutions.
France is a socialist nation, with a powerful government. But they also have a strong tradition of liberty, which tends to temper government excesses.
Research your new home carefully. Like many countries France has towns and suburbs blighted by crime. But there are also many beautiful places to live, far away from the chaos and violence in the trouble spots.
Anyone who makes the move will likely be treated as a celebrity. The French love their celebrities.
France used to be first rate in science, math and invention. Then they chopped the heads off their smartest people.
I’m all for it, as long as it takes them off our hands (no further US government compensation) and they must pay French income tax henceforth. It’ll be just fine to see the back of them.
France is offering to help drain the swamp.
(Maybe they’re beginning to remember what they owe the US and the other Allies for WWII and what it took to rebuild?)
Good.
Now extent the offer to present Federal employee’s hired or appointed under Bill Clinton and Obama (including judges) and the US just might end up in debt to France.
I’m sure historians will find lots of inaccuracies/exaggerations/slantings in this but it’s still humorous.

🙂 The French are easy to pick on because they’re easy targets. So to speak.
here’s some French military good news: the Battle of Puebla (which the French lost) gave us Cinco de Mayo
Considering all the terrorists that have come in to France with the French open door immigration policies this invitation to climate scientists creates the same effect. Both are involved in religions which are aiming to destroy the western way of living. Good luck to the French, they’ll need it.
After French taxes they’ll probably be left with $1.38.
What’s a cancer scientist worth? You know, one that is actually doing something valuable?
This could work for France. Well pay 2 million Francs for Macron to take our Flannery, Ove, John Cook and the rest of the useful idiots.
A ‘bloody’ bargain for we Aussies. Just may save what remains of our electricity grid.
Bring out your dead…
For €1.5 Million ?!?!
Je suis climat scientifique.
$1.7 mill to say what your boss wants you to say. How shallow is the president of France? Follow the money.
What the hell, those same “climate scientists” were doing the same thing for Obama for a lot less money. Just saying…
However that observation England and America are two countries separated by a common language originated, many of the comments in this column illustrate it’s accuracy. I didn’t quite break a rib from laughing but I think it was close.
Overall, the deliberate humour (<-correctly spelt)was scintillating and the accidental had its piquancy. Oh dear, how sad, too bad, never mind.
The coo-eee call is Australian, very common in Australia and slightly less so in New Zealand. (collectively known as Down Under.) It carries well over long distances. A quick check on Wikipedia confirmed its origin:
Try it for yourself.
Climate scientists: Take that action! Grab it and go!
Just part of the leftwing meltdown. President Trump is good at that. Money talks, BS walks. Will any other European countries offer the same …. Germany? … Italy?
There are a few we will let him have for free. Hockey sticks anyone?
outside western countries already less regulations then usa. it’s why solyndra failed. trump wants to lower high operating/research/healthcare/living costs. you can protect clean air water with extensive regulation/guidelines but don’t need excessive bureaucracy taxes. democrats want to flood usa with illegals to suppress existing citizens vote. dems are spoiled rotten on tax payer salary. they deserve cut pension per illegal/refugee. they go past limit and medical punish citizens with hiked cost. trump is doing the opposite of what globalists are doing. tech giants may love climate change but don’t like cost so they outsource/abuse hb1 visa. Starbucks get cheaper coffee beans but they aren’t lowering default cost of goods in california. illegals/paris treaty only help other countries be cheap outsource leverage while cost hike in usa. liberals act like communist totalitarians maozedong.
This idea of Macron’s is absolutely splendid. It must be given full support. America does not need them. France, the sick man of Europe, is the perfect place for them. From there they will be unable to anything much to damage the rest of the world. And with this new found personal wealth they will be able to indulge in voluminous personal CO2 emissions from gas guzzling cars, motor yachts and flights in private jets, like their celebrity heroes Di Caprio et al. And think of all that nuclear power generation in France. A toy to play with.
I wonder what the economic forcing is for climate scientists? Input 1.5 million, output?
Dear “climate scientists”
And don’t let the door hit your rear end on the way out.
And that cements the fact that he is a puppet.
Today is the first day of the French Parliamentary elections. Macron is a politician and he needed some green votes for his new party (La Republique En Marche!) I suppose.
I have had a little place in SW France for 42 years and would jump at this offer. What do I need to be a climate scientist? I have a degree in railway engineering and write salacious novels.
Sounds like a track record of “science communication” to me…
What a shame. Maybe he wants to build a nation with all the junk scientists which trump was trying to get rid of.
And there are plenty of other things to do to make the planet great again, than reducing co2 emissions. Like to stop deforestation, stop building infrastructure that segregates ecosystems apart, rethink the way we build cities to avoid the urban heat island…
Great country – food, wine, climate – seas, forests, mountains. French outside Paris are charming though the language can be opaque. Very difficult running a business but $1.5m free money – who is worried about adding value? An offer you can’t refuse!
Our CSIRO has about 300 climate scientists who screamed their tiny heads off when it was suggested that the CSIRO could do a bit of restructuring to reduce costs and as the Science of the Climate was Settled some time back we didn’t need any climate scientists anymore.
A lot of us down here would be more than happy to offload all of those 300 Climate scientists onto the French It would only cost the French about half a billion dollars AUD to take over our climate science
expertsexports.Macron said “France has always led fights for human rights.”
Fool! The President of France is ignorant of French history. Pres. Macron do you know Maximilien Robespierre and the Jacobins? For your info, the word “terrorist” originated from the Reign of Terror by your French countrymen. The cartoon below shows Robespierre guillotining the executioner after having guillotined everyone else in France
And the word “sabotage”, wooden “shoes”, sabots, thrown in to machine operated looms.
Macron said “France has always led fights for human rights.”
Not much before the Revolution; not much compared to Britain and Holland in those days.
