Guest essay by Eric Worrall
Paramount has announced that a sequel to Al Gore’s 2006 climate documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” will be aired at the Sundance Festival in January 2017.
Paramount Pictures will distribute a still-untitled An Inconvenient Truth sequel
Paramount Pictures announced today it will release a still untitled An Inconvenient Truth sequel theatrically. From Participant Media, and directed by Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk, the An Inconvenient Truth sequel follows former Vice President Al Gore as he continues his decades-long fight to build a more sustainable future for our planet. The 2006 original won two Academy Awards.
“Now more than ever we must rededicate ourselves to solving the climate crisis,” says Gore. “But we have reason to be hopeful; the solutions to the crisis are at hand. I’m deeply honored and grateful that Paramount Pictures and Participant Media have once again taken on the task of bringing the critical story of the climate crisis to the world.”

I’m personally looking forward to the sequel. I mean, there are important questions unanswered by the first “Inconvenient Truth”, questions like “Why did you sell your TV station to Al Jazeera – what happened to the $100 million you took from the Qatar Oil Sheiks?“. Or “Why did you buy that Montecito beach view villa in 2010, if you thought sea level rise was about to engulf coastal towns?”. How about “How much electricity did you burn during Earth Hour 2009, when you left the lights on at your huge Tennessee mansion?“.

With the 9 convenient lies?
Yes an early example of FAKE news, carried by the networks.
Those were just the most egregious ones, those the judge felt required immediately accompanying disclaimers. He noted 27 more less serious ones, as well.
I don’t recall the judge going beyond 9 errors. It was only a partial victory. The film was allowed to be shown with some prefatory “guidance” material. Other commenters soon found a total of 35 mistakes. I hope the new movie loses tons of money.
Money is no object for the producers. All expenses related to the movie become either a tax write off or a valid expenditure for a nonprofit organization. They’ll show it for free.
Will this sequel come with the disclaimers already attached or it have to be taken to court like the first one?
Taken to court, of course.
Should we start crowd-funding now?
Auto
So many good questions, so little time for a backward look from Al.
Someone should release a movie entitled – “Inconvenient Facts”.
This sequel should be titled “Trust Us”
In the immortal words of Otter, “You f**ked up, you trusted us!”
So, they are going to show Avatar?
The first time – Tragedy.
The second time – Farce.
One of Marx’ few good lines. Karl, that is, not Groucho, who had a lot of them.
Well “inconvenient truth” does sound like the title of a comedy. I would go for some laughs if I wanted to make a profit on this groaner. Karl Marx was a better comedian than Gore, its just the Karl wasn’t kidding. Groucho on the other hand was:
While Groucho was having a lunch on the Via Veneto in Rome, a priest came up to his table and said, “My mother just loves you!”. To which Groucho replied, “Hey, I thought you guys weren’t allowed to have mothers.”
‘Groucho’ wouldn’t be a bad nickname for Gore – he’s a testy fellow.
well….just look at who’s doing the pissing and moaning
Every political, government, country…every organization…every business…every everything that was in line to get our money
..and we pissed in their Wheaties and messed up their little game
Oh, I have not peed in their wheaties, yet. Building up a good kidney infection first.
Plus LOTS & LOTS.
Auto [I guess wheaties are a locally produced cereal?!]
Taking into effect the Gore effect, this may be the turning point at which the world begins to cool.
If anyone can do it, the frat boy can.
No Peter the Festival starts and a freak snowstorm buries Utah in 5 feet of snow….. and we don’t hear from Arch Bishop Gore for weeks.
Park City, UT is a ski resort, January snow is almost guaranteed! I was once stranded there by a March blizzard, me a co-driver, and four Arabians in a 20′ trailer along with everyone else lucky enough to make it to the exit without sliding into a ditch. It started out as a downpour in SLC but by the time we climbed up to Park City we could no longer see and were navigating by 18-wheeler’s running lights. We were just lucky he went off on an exit because we were willing to follow him until he stopped. Algore should only fall into a drift and turn blue….
PMK
About 8 years ago I was working on a local airborne survey crew and we booked into Sundance for Christmas dinner. Since it was snowing reasonably heavily, there was no chance of any work that day, so we headed off early to grab a few extra beers prior to the meal.
Just after we arrived, an minor avalanche blocked the access road, and therefore we had an almost surreal experience of a Christmas dinner in an otherwise empty restaurant. It was a good few hours before the road was cleared after the meal, so the whole evening got a bit messy, as we felt obliged to try to keep the bar staff employed. I felt a bit sorry for our designated driver.
What with all the global warming and missed climate targets, I guess these snowfalls are a thing of the past.
“still-untitled” Here’s one -“An Inconvenient Truth, The Wrath of ManBearPig”. I’m serial!
Super serial Title. Chuckle, Chuckle.
Super serial.
How about ” A Convenient Untruth”. That’s what he should have called to last one but the title is still available.
“A VERY Well-paying L13.”
Appreciate the need for direct conversation, but the present tense of lain word does seem to unnecessarily involve the mods.
Auto – astonished at how tolerant I am.
Here is a WUWT article refuting, point by point, An Inconvenient Truth
https://wattsupwiththat.com/2007/10/04/detailed-comments-on-an-inconvenient-truth/
(If you want a summary version of the above Oct. 4, 2007 article, it is summarized/edited in the WUWT 10th Anniv. anthology at 83-89 — good comment thread with that article, too)

See also the WUWT Reference Pages tab at the top of this page for MUCH information to refute the junk science with which the sequel will no doubt be riddled.
Average Maria: So, Joe, what should we take the kids to see for Christmas vacation movie night this year?
Joe: Oh, something that has some adventure in it, something funny.
Maria: How about Gore’s new science movie?
Joe: Are you KIDDING me?
Maria: lololol yeah. As if.
Hey Janice, I thought it should be a comedy:

It is.
“I’m cereal.”

Al Gore, Expert on Science.

Released in January? Why do I sense the cold cold winds of the Gore effect?
That’s right. With his track record, it is kind of irresponsible to be releasing this in January.
It’s debuting at the Sundance Film festival. Gore didn’t pick the date for that.
If he shows up they may need to rename it the Ice Fair Film Festival.
Algor mortis.
such a wonderful name for the gore effect, no?
So this new version will have to admit that pretty well none of things Gore said in 2006 has come to pass?
Awkward.
I’m still waiting for the sequel to Spaceballs.
Is Michael Moore or Michael Mann to be the writers,as both are noted for political fiction?
There’s a name for one doing the same stupid thing over and over again. What is it?
Stephen, I spent 27 years in the military. I could give you a long list of names for that.
The list is long and distinguished.
Regardless thought, you still can’t fix stupid.
There are some things it’s possible to do too well. Maybe waging war is one of them.
A liberal democrat?
In the engineering community we have a name for people that keep doing that.
Unemployed.
Problem is, Gore is a parasite and doesn’t need to work.
No, i think Gore is a priest/politician, and the usual shallow person who has enough of a congregation/constituency even shallower than himself who wants affirnation by what he is preaching.
Socialism?
Shows you how much money the alarmists have at their disposal for propaganda. Anybody that still believes this is about temperature is seriously naive. A Populist movement seems to be gaining traction in Democratic countries and I believe the AGW scam will be one of the institutions that loses all credibility. People aren’t that stupid after all.
Really? Obama was elected twice!
To the eternal shame of the American public. Be careful about asking for fundamental change, lest you get it.
The second time was just to reinforce how stupid it was the first time.
As was the philanderer, Clinton I.
Could I suggest that timing of the movie’s release presumed a different outcome to the election, when this sequel was proposed to Paramount?
Or perhaps timed to coincide with a change in administration to keep the flock in line? There’s been a lot of frantic name calling, accusations, donation requests, and the usual misinformation coming out of the warmist camp since the Presidential election. They’re acting scared….and they should be.
Maybe the theatres are supposed to be staging locations for climate-flavored mass protest, social justice mob action.
That is what I thought, exactly, when I first heard it was supposed to be released in January! Obviously this has been in production for some time, and it was time to coincide with the much anticipated (on the left) inauguration of President Hillary. This was going to be the cultural linchpin that was going to provide cover for a vast overhaul of the American economy in the guise of “climate security”.
Ha, how much one election can change! Now Paramount is stuck with this, the plans are set in stone, and they have nothing left to do but release it anyways.
To use a military analogy, this effort is going to go down as a Bay of Pigs for the Climate Warriors – a comically flawed assault that was far too little, far too late, to the point that it will be regarded as nothing but a punchline to a bad joke for all time to come.
Wasn’t virtually everything Hollywood did presuming a different outcome to the election?
Reality
“Wasn’t virtually everything Hollywood did presuming a different outcome to the election?”
“Wasn’t virtually everything Hollywood ever did presuming a different outcome to any election?”
A help?
Goodness, they ae so insulated in their – dunno – eco-pods; Auric-protectorates; Cash insulations – that they literally have no idea about life for the other 97%.
I work in The City – sorry – The City of London – and enjoy an income that is comfortably over twice the UK average; my wife works, and I still seek assurance about the future.
And I have been fairly careful. with the pennies over decades.
The ‘Just About Managing’ are, I am sure, tearing their hair out.
Auto
You must be right. Lead time on these things is significant, even a dicumentary like An Incontinent Goof II A possibility that the screening will be deferred due to “scheduling conflicts” or “a cash crisis.” I suspect Paramount won’t be betting their farm on this turkey.
The one thing really likely about the sequel is that it will not be financed with Paramount’s money.
Or: Maria: So, Joe, what should we take the kids to see for Christmas vacation movie night this year?
Joe: How about that new movie, The Wizard of Goreism?
Maria: The WHAT? That sounds like a horror movie. We can’t take the kids to that for Christmas!
Joe: Maria. You can’t judge a movie by it’s title! It’s a comedy! Al Gore is the lead actor.
Marie: Oh! Sounds like fun. Where’s it playing…..???
Cute. 🙂
A work of fiction . Same disasters, new time line… it should be entertaining. They should show it on Halloween as a scary movie. They had those Saturday afternoon horror movies, too. Can I do the film editing ? We’ll show icebergs, and forest fires, floods, Syrian refugees, floods, droughts, wind storms, snow storms, extreme cold, extreme heat, crop failures,… (no abundant crops), the evil air conditioners, … more evil than ISIS …. and what story would be complete without the story of poor starving polar bears and poor starving children. This is what is happening now. Not leaving out the charts, and official organizations, and the chronic Cryer of doomsday or the number of people who believe . And a voice over of how man is making all this happen oh,oh we will have to do something now ! The true meaning of think globally, act locally… and send donations to… there will be no accounting, just rest that your money is being used… … they could hire me to do the storyboards.
Ok, youse guys can rate this.. 1 or 2 stars ?
Black hole….
I was thinking rate it 10:10
To remember that great 10:10 “No Pressure” video, where they blow up everybody who does not agree.
One storyboard should include a clip from the 10:10 video as a proposed “Final Solution” (to borrow a phrase) to the “skeptics” problem.
the syrian refugees? would appear to be needing snowshoes according to a report I read over at iceagenow.info today
ditto arabs;-)
and their camels might need to learn to pull sleds;-)
Steve Heins “As an informed witness of the last 20 years of broadband and energy, I humbly submit that nobody foresaw the year 2016, in Y2K, accurately. In fact, nobody was even close.”
It is even less likely that any of us will be seers or accurate futurists going forward.
Al has never, ever come close to predicting the future! Although, his bank account hasn’t seemed to notice.
According to the NYT, this year Sundance is going to focus on the important issues of climate change, the environment, race relations, and gender. One film, “Chasing Coral,” is about the tragedy of vanishing reefs around the world.

They really thought Hillary was going to win, didn’t they?
PMK
They spent $1.2 billion on the election. More than ever before. Money generally wins.
If they were serious about racism they’d help Sub-Saharan Africa get affordable electricty distribution. They aren’t, so they won’t, and that tells everyone with critical thinking what the Left is really about.
Yes, but the Sundance Film festival was always a feel-good romp in progressive ideas. Audience appeal and revenue return were irrelevant. It’s pat each other on the back for being so nobel time.
This will be the “Some-Dunce PC Film Festival.” Don’t fail to miss it, if you can.
When the original was released the synopsis warned that we had only ten years to avert a major catastrophe. It hasn’t happened.
The original ended up in a British court where it was ruled that the film was political and contained serious errors. link
I suspect the new film will be even easier to debunk. What can he possibly say that we haven’t already heard a hundred times. Bring it on.
Two acadamy awards?I didn t know there was a category for propaganda
Best unintentional comedy maybe ?
Special effects?
I want to see the MST3K guys review it. Lay it on, Tom Servo!!!
Title? Gore and greens
trumped
“Great green gobs of grimy greasy gorey gopher guts – and me without my spoon.”
Are they planning to call the movie “disregard my last, out”.
