On Monday, I wrote a very personal piece that describes my personal trials and tribulations over the last 18 months. It was very well received and I had hundreds of comments of support. I sincerely thank everyone who left a comment of support and understanding. Out of 428 comments, almost every comment was this way, almost, save one. Even the normally irascible “Eli Rabbet” provided a thoughtful comment of support.
That one comment (which was never published due to multiple policy violations) is presented below for your amusement, along with a follow up comment.
Of course, the person writing it was a coward, hiding behind a fake name, a fake email, and an IP address on a proxy server. But the m.o. and the content is a dead giveaway, because who else writes high pressure craziness like this hoping to convince somebody you are right by hurling insults? There’s only one person I know of.

Gosh, I didn’t realize I’m in the same league with Mann, Hansen, and Trenberth. With my elevated status, it seems critical mass has been reached again.
I was once alone in a farm-house about 30 km from Edinburgh late at night, and this man walked in. He dictated a letter of apology to my host, which I typed, and walked out again. (This wasn’t a random stranger, it was someone I knew of who had in fact done my host a serious wrong.) I have never had such a terrifying experience before or after, not because I feared violence, but because he was mad, and I was and am utterly untrained to deal with that. I literally had no idea from one minute to the next what he was going to do. The best word I can find to describe the experience was *uncanny*. This message affects me in much the same way.
It takes a robust sense of reality and the support/respect of good people to cope with such stuff, and you have both. This guy isn’t even wrong.
I made a reply to Anthony above and it’s apparently gone into the dust bin. I replied several times.
Well, that was enlightening. He never did tell us ignorant hicks which Law of Thermodynamics he was referring to. Maybe the 15th?
Those types of responses can only be considered for their entertainment value, although I’m still trying to wrap my ‘limited mental processes’ around a ‘fire in vacuum’. Although I do admit that I would be upset at being associated with Mann, Hansen, et al

I would have loved to get that one thrown at me so I could use the handle H. Thermo-Billy R. I’d probably add that to my business card, too. I can see Willis’ business card now; Singer, Sailor, Carpenter, Mechanic, Inventor, Thermo-billy, etc.

There are some people whose venom can be a source of pride. This is one of them.
Article idea. I read some things that I can never find again, but I still believe them.
Psychological things get us high with the same mechanisms as drugs. Believing we are superior gets us high. Righteous outrage gets us high. It is hard to reason with a person who is trying to stay high.
That commenter was trying to over dose.
Are words like idiot, liar, sc*m artists, lawyers, journalists, and politicians insults or descriptive terms to alert other readers to be more skeptical? I do not know what the ratio of commentators to readers are but I assume that at least some are interested in different points of view.
Idiots love to post how many people the power industry kills with providing the evidence of dead bodies. Since I work in the power industry, I do not find it very ‘civil’. Call someone and ‘idiot’ and their response is more idiotic. Yup, no need to apologize yet.
I have never been wrong about sc*m artists. They take money from others and put it in their pocket. That is what the solar industry does. Show me a business plan or some other justification supported by actual data and I will admit being wrong. Yup, no need to apologize yet.
I have no expectation that everyone will agree with me. It has been my experience that some get their feeling hurt. Get professional or talk to clergy. One key to happiness is turning the other cheek.
Much of the evil of in the world is justified by hanging on to grievances.
My attention was caught by a passing mention that the top layer of the atmosphere absorbs all (or almost all) of the radiation coming from the sun. The intense heat lower down in the thick atmosphere would be due to pressure and the inability of other heating to escape the system. Any large asteroid coming along would introduce energy into the spherical containment shell that will be there forever. Where can it go? Nowhere!
But my main question is why the concentrated solar energy in the top layer does not boil away the atmosphere more quickly? For that matter, the solar wind kinetically should be stripping Venus of its gas. Now I will speculate that this gas-stripping has been a bit faster on Earth because we have a large moon that might help the occasional fast gas molecule with the right trajectory achieve escape velocity and slingshot away. Venus doesn’t have that. It can’t bleed off energy and matter.
But then, why did Mars lose so much atmosphere? It only has (at present) two small moons. It is more distant from the sun than Venus or Earth.
