UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon blinks, responds to WUWT story

ban-ki-moonThis WUWT story from two days ago:  Obama’s Lonely Climate Summit – world leaders are staying home went viral after being linked to by the Drudge report, earning WUWT its best performing day ever with 345,393 views.

WUWT_best_day_wordpressdataIt seems to have evoked a response.

Eric Worrall writes:

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon today responded, to reports that a number of key world leaders would not be attending the upcoming climate summit in New York.

According to Ban,

“…even though the leaders from India, China and Russia will not be able to participate in the meeting, there are “other means of communications, ways and means of having their leadership demonstrated in the United Nations.”

I suggest, Mr Moon, that you and President Obama are currently experiencing a sample of that “other means of communication” you mentioned.

there have always been other means of communicating – i suspect the physical gathering was as much for publicity as for discussion – if so – the lack of a gathering seems pretty significant

Yes, and it will be covered on CNN every 8 minutes, 24/7 for a month of indignation.

The B.R.I.C.S hint?
Is Brazil the black sheep to Russia, India and China. Followed by South Africa?
After all, Brazil has cut down half the rain forests and South Africa has culled half the farmers.

I expect that in a few years the revised attendance list will clearly show that all of the world leaders were there.

From the Article,

According to the report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, headed by Indian Nobel laureate Rajendra Pachauri, the world is presently on a path that would well exceed the two degree Celsius (3.6°F) rise in temperature limit that countries have set to ensure that the world would not suffer the worst impacts of climate change. Really wanted Modi to attend UN climate change summit: UN chief Ban Ki-moon

is Pachauri the same kind of Nobel laureate as Michael Mann by any chance,

…the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007 is to be shared, in two equal parts, between the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Albert Arnold (Al) Gore Jr. for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change. Rajendra K. Pachauri

Yes he is.

4 or 5 years ago Anthony Watts and WUWT was/were a name not to be spoken per the advocates of the “cause”.
Times have changed.

There certainly are more pressing problems. Although climate activists will argue, as I heard on the BBC yesterday, what good is finding a cure for ebola if climate change will surely kill you sooner.

Here’s their official list of Speakers for the Grand Opening of the latest Ki-MoonFest:

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Mr. Bill de Blasio, Mayor of the City of New York
Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
Mr. Al Gore, Chairman of Generation Investment Management and the Climate Reality Project
Ms. Li Bingbing, Actress and UN Environment Programme Goodwill Ambassador
Mr. Leonardo DiCaprio, Actor and UN Messenger of Peace
Ms. Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner, Civil Society Representative from the Marshall Islands

What is it they do not understand about the Goracle’s total lack of credibility, eh?! But, I digress … Apparently there will be three concurrent sessions of “National Action and Ambition Announcements” as well as other stuff throughout the day and the Closing Ceremony speakers will be:

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
H.E. Mr. Ollanta Humala, President of Peru
H.E. Ms. Graca Machel, Founder, Graca Machel Trust
Performance by Ms. Natasha Bedingfield, singer and songwriter, accompanied by Mr. Toby Gadd, songwriter

And in case you were wondering (considering that this is a “by invitation only” confab) how you might “participate”:

Acting on climate change is everyone’s responsibility. Here’s how you can do your part:
You can share the following images with your friends on your social networks, or post them on your website or blog, to raise awareness of the importance of taking climate action. When you share them make sure you use the #climate2014 hash tag

[Source: http://www.un.org/climatechange/take-action/%5D
So, in answer to those who were wondering about KI-Moon’s claim that absent leaders could still “participate”, perhaps they’ll do so via twitter 😉
Amazing, eh?!
P.S. If you’re not totally convinced about “why you should care about climate change” then don’t miss the 1-2 minute videos from their 18 designated hitters:

Business leaders, policymakers and UN officials** tell us why the (sic) care about combatting climate change and why you should too.

Sigh … drat there’s those mysterious “%5D”‘s again messing up my links. Memo to self: when pasting links within “[square brackets]” try leaving a space between end of link and “]” … In the meantime, let me try to get rid of ’em. Three links above should be:

Just for correctness,
“I suggest, Mr Moon, that you and President Obama are currently experiencing a sample of that “other means of communication” you mentioned.”
It would be Mr. Ban.
Korean’s often list their family name first.

Just asked him why he’s building so many airports…….
It might be a very rational and far-sighted plan to be able to evacuate the islands when they become inundated…..but I have a question mark in my head about that…

If we cut all power, carbon based gas fuels, oils from all UN facilities and refuse to sell carbon-based products to any UN or diplomatic licensed vehicles, planes, etc., including refusing to let them ride in any public conveyance without paying a “carbon tax” of $US500 to the driver, all this will stop, overnight….

The UN is telling the undeveloped world that it cannot industrialize and consume. That amounts to skewering the UNs powerbase.
Arguments that the developed world will pay for mitigation and cut emissions further are implausable and untennable.
The show is over and it is going to start getting ugly. … Fueled by green hysteria
