This WUWT story from two days ago: Obama’s Lonely Climate Summit – world leaders are staying home went viral after being linked to by the Drudge report, earning WUWT its best performing day ever with 345,393 views.
It seems to have evoked a response.
Eric Worrall writes:
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon today responded, to reports that a number of key world leaders would not be attending the upcoming climate summit in New York.
According to Ban,
“…even though the leaders from India, China and Russia will not be able to participate in the meeting, there are “other means of communications, ways and means of having their leadership demonstrated in the United Nations.”
I suggest, Mr Moon, that you and President Obama are currently experiencing a sample of that “other means of communication” you mentioned.
According to Ban “…there are “other means of communications, ways and means of having their leadership demonstrated in the United Nations.”
Yeah…not showing up should tell ol’ Ban and the world something.
I’d say the Moon Man might be better advised to tend his housekeeping chores. According to reviews, the U.N.’s monstrous financial management software system is lying in a pile of digital ashes that threatens current peacekeeping operations. What went wrong? Well, they got off to a bad start by naming the system Umoja (that means “unity” in Swahili). Now we have a new definition of “Umoja”: A self-eating melon.
Critical mass meets reality:

At the Paris Conference, for the first time in over 20 years of UN negotiations all the nations of the world will be bound by a universal ‘binding and irreversible’ agreement on climate change.
OK, so when do we all get to vote?
I nominate Anthony Watts for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council…
First order of business: dissolution of the UN…
Yo, Ban.
When you’ve fixed Africa give me a call. We’ll have lunch in NY and chat.
End the wars, get the people electricity and roads, ensure clean safe potable water and plenty of food and medicines… that shouldn’t take more than 20 years or so.
Don’t forget to call me when you’ve got that done.
Stop bothering me with your lies.
This, of course is the gist of the problem with the UN and the alarmist movement in genera: they spend all this cabbage and energy (jet fuel in particular) on a problem that is not yet understood or even reliably quantified while real problems that cause suffering, disease and human misery are shoved to the side.
Today, Australian Prime Minister Abbott was meeting with aircrew and troops heading for middle east war zones, to assist people threatened by beheading filth of Islamic origins. He interrupted a stay in tents in the bush, coming personally to grips over several days re our aborigine problems.
During the day, unprecedented news broke of a large police roundup of persons of interest in the matter of terrorism. There was intercepted telephone evidence of a plan to take one or more members of the ordinary public – like you or me – and to behead them for onlookers to view.
We in Australia, I suspect a majority of us, are more pleased with our National leader actively participating in events of significance to each of us, rather than carpetbagging at a UN climate change talkfest. There are indications that our PM considers that no important value remains in obediently following the global warming caravan of unproven belief in the Apocalypse.
Thanks for the update, Geoff. We don’t often hear such things in the States. By contrast, we heard a lot when your lady prime minister was actively pursuing green goals, but lately not so much.
Mr. Moon’s “other means of communications, ways and means” probably resemble the Gestapo’s “we have our ways” of getting what they wanted.
I understand Mr Moon is going to be at the 21st September Climate Believer demonstration. His leadership will increase the groups profile, and it should make them behave a little better as they call for a world wide revolution to save us from CO2.
The UN started as a way for the two superpowers to round up gangs of small country supporters in a plausibly deniable way; then it morphed into an extortion scheme by 3rd world countries aiming at 1st world wealth; then it turned into a counter extortion scheme where the 1st world pays off a pack of 3rd world grandees and thugs and pays lip service to populist ideas while doing nothing of any kind at all in practice.
And now the game is just about up, and pretty much everyone is sick of the UN. (except for the gang of apparatchiks in each country who are dedicated to riding that financial gravy train, but just like hobos of an earlier era, they will never get off that train until they’re thrown off.)
Interesting.
At least the hobos didn’t demand a first class ticket for the ride.
\\Ban was asked to comment on the leaders of India, Russia and China not attending his summit on climate change, which said is a “defining issue of our times.”//
He got that right. Those who believe passionately in catastrophic global warming can be defined as big-government, authoritarian fear-mongers who rely on shoddy science and are gluttonous for more power.
Can’t they get Matt Damon or Leonardo di Caprio to show up and dump water all over themselves or something? That would at least get some attention, but I think its been done, and media saturation has taken over.
I dunno, dancing bears or something? Then at least PETA would show up.
With his newly annointed climate title of “UN Messenger of Peace” Leo is bound to bring something Hollywood to Broadway…its the only way this show is going to gain any public attention….can’t help but chuckle about the “un-messenger” monicker.
All very good, but not so fast my friends…
The EPA has a rulemaking in progress whose goal is to cut fossil fuel powered electric generating plants by 30%. The rule is 1,600 pages long and patently unworkable without major impact on cost and reliability. Go to “tellEPA.com” to learn more.
Kudos, Anthony.
Oops, “cut carbon dioxide emissions from…”
Oreskes should be picketing the UN climate meeting in NYC, after all, she stood up at a recent AGU Annual Fall Meeting in San Francisco to say the UN’s IPCC is not alarmist enough because it is being influenced to play down real alarming AGW by fossil fuel advocates.
John
I for one consider it a huge deal when you make the head of the UN stop and address you. Congrats Anthony. You know you have made a difference when the bloated leaders can no longer ignore you. I feel that you are on the edge of some major breakthroughs when it comes to the populace understanding reality and it has been you and people like you that have brought them to this point. Keep up the great work.
Cheers
That’s a +1 from me.
Wouldn’t it be good if the climategate 3 password came out to coincide with the UN summit?
~”See how they distance themselves, Kohai?” – Sean Connery, Rising Sun….
I think the Moon Ban (bat?) needs to go to the movies and find out about Asian American culture…
India wil use China Russia”Other forms of communication”? Other than alarmist arm waving?
Thunderous silence is more likely? I sure don’t hear them playing the UN tune.
But all of the USAID, IMF, and World Bank recipient countries are expected to be there on time and saying all the right carbon tax words (as instructed).
The jig will soon be over.
You can’t fool all of the people all of the time. They used to fool me until I looked closer.
I’m embarrassed that I used to door-knock for the green party over the issue including assist at election days at the polling station.
Boy did I cop it when I began to question……and at that stage it was just innocently question…
Didn’t see the totalitarian streak until I was subject to it.
I’m far from alone I suspect.
Me too.
I first was just asking “Gee, this looks serious. Can you explain?” questions. Then I started asking “But what about….” and got told in no uncertain terms that I was not to do that… and they said “Are you getting that from WUWT?” (in less polite terms). That was what sent me to WUWT.
I’ve been happy ever since 😉
But many of us have made the journey from the dark side to the light…
That’s the hook.
Appeal to people’s nobler motives (and/or emotions) while hiding their own.
What ever happened to the wonderful underhand diplomatic delights of United Nation leaders such as the likes of Kurt Waldheim.

Ban Ki Moon has a fantastic job. He gets paid a ton of money, jets around the world all expenses paid, and his only responsibility seems to be getting in front of cameras to explain that he isn’t as ineffective as he seems. He’ll retire at some point. I understand some guy named Barak is being groomed to replace him.
The leadership demonstrated by silence.
Maybe he’ll just go with whatever computer attendance model furthers his aims?
