The average temperature for December 2013 to March 2014 period in Chicago was only 22.0°F, 10 degrees below freezing, beating the old record set in the winter of 1903-04. It even beat the harsh winters of 1977/78 which were some of the worst ever.
While stories rage in the media about how global warming is a threat to mankind and nobody will be left untouched by it, the National Weather Service in Chicago issued this statement today.
No, it isn’t an April fools joke.
Here is the statement:

This just in from the climate crowd: earthquakes, volcanoes, asteroids, and UFO caused by man-made global warming.
Do me a favor and discuss the past four months of Cali and Alaska. The WARMEST time frame on record for winter in over 50 years. Global Warming is happening. It’s called data and evidence taken over a long period of time. I’m not saying whether its manmade or not, but don’t be blind to science while keeping your eyes open to stories that fit your narrative.
In view of these record low temps, the pro-AGW rhetoric is now forecast to be hotter than ever this year. There will plenty of heat moving forward but very little light.

You asked about the summer temperature trends in United States

perhaps they switch their tactic and tax cold … in the name of fainess of course, Who has it more difficult? someone living the easy-peasy life in Iceland, or some downtrodden victim living in a tropical paradise?
Proving that hell can indeed freeze over …
Hell froze over which is appropriate considering that’s the city that gave us Barack Obama.
IMPOSSIBLE! All the Liberals, from Obama down, are telling us about “Global Warming” and that we need to “prepare” (code word for higher taxes). Now you are telling us that it’s been colder, and not warmer. How can that be. Some one is not telling us the truth and I’m not talking about the lies put forth to pass the Unaffordable Healthcare Act.
Must be all that global warming we’ve been hearing sp much about .
Damn Al Gore!
All you knucklehead science deniers are confusing weather (it’s cold) with climate (it’s warming). Global warming causes climatic anomalies, including really cold weather. Read a book sometime, will you? Or at least change the channel off Fox News.
REPLY: Golly, how hate laden. We are simply reporting a significant weather event that has occurred once in a century. If indeed global warming causes cold climatic anomalies as you claim, what then pray tell, caused the previous record event in 1903/04 when “global warming” wasn’t an issue? Show your work/citations because your opinion simply isn’t good enough. – Anthony

Hey Aqualung. Are you been sitting on a park bench?
More Geoengineering to come! Natural weather no longer exists.
…on record.” How long have reliable records been kept?
Average temperature… are the temps. taken above the ground or in the ground? (The ground heats the air, not vice-versa. Ground temps fluctuate slower than air temps ) \
How many readings were taken per day/minute/second?
Too many questions, I know.
So….? And….?
AlGore is an inconvenient moron.
BUT DID THEY LISTEN IN 2002 WHEN I PREDICTED GLOBAL COOLING?
NOOOOOOO !!!
🙂

I cannot make short term predictions of weather / temperature.
I can only make long term predictions – about 15- 20 years or more. 🙂
I wrote in an article in the Calgary Herald published on September 1, 2002:
On global cooling:
“If (as I believe) solar activity is the main driver of surface temperature rather than CO2, we should begin the next cooling period by 2020 to 2030.”
When I wrote this in 2002, SC 24 was predicted to be strong, and we now know it is quite weak.
I still think my 2002 global cooling prediction will materialize, although I wonder if this cooling will start a bit sooner than 2020.
********
I didn’t see this mentioned in the IPCC report…so I refuse to believe it…
[snip – angry insulting rant, policy violation -mod]
So why is the BBC spouting on about out of every orifice about the latest “Weather (not Climate) IPCC Report to us UK cit`s and not saying a “Dicky” about “The March of the (Coming?) Iceman over your way.
Anybody would think they are trying to hush it:- too!
Where possible build a snow man and call it IPCC or Michael Mann? But thanks to global warming around its neck?
I believe that in Australia the change of season also give unsettled weather, maybe the same with Chicago? We are heading into mid Autumn started 1st March. Our rainfall has been spasmodic and drought is experienced in our region New England, in some areas, as the elevation varies. We have had some very good rain in the recent week, now it is settling down again. Average temps are mid 20s, and lower at night 10 C to 15C
Erm small point, I don’t think it was the pilot who took the photo… not unless he waked back to about row 50 and took it from one of the passenger windows.

You were wondering why BBC was not telling you about our cold weather. It has been my observation that temperature data collection groups like NOAA/NCDC and the Met Office are clearly biased in reporting only warming events and none of the cooling events . Not only have winters been getting cooler since 1998 in Contiguous US [48 states] and Canada , but winters have been getting colder for the Northern Hemisphere and for the Globe as a whole. Not every year was colder and not every region was colder but the long term trend is that winters have been getting colder since 1998. This past winter North America had a record cold , but Europe and Asia did not , resulting in slight warming for North Hemisphere as a whole for the 2013/2014 winter compared to the previous winter.North America is experiencing a cold cycle currently like they had 1895-1920 and again 1955-1979 and hence I see this cooler pattern to continue for several decades . Next winter for North America may be warmer compared to the cold one we just had because of the potential of weak El Nino , but this could mean more winter storms in Uk and Europe next winter as El Ninos sometime come with more negative AO days which brings the colder weather to Uk sometime ..
“global warming is a threat to mankind and nobody will be left untouched by it” The extreme cold temps are part of the global warming. I know it has “warm” in the phrase, but take 10 minutes, rub your two brain cells together, and read about what global warming is. It does not mean that it will be all hot, all the time. It means that there will be an overall global increase in temperatures as well as severe weather patterns, both hot and cold. It’s really not a difficult concept if you just put a tiiiiiiny bit of effort into it.
[ Except that its wrong – mod]
If you cannot explain your opinion without insults, you do not understand it yourself.

Why would the pilot not go back to take the photo? It’s a good shot, perhaps he took other shots through other windows.
