WUWT milestone – 1 million comments

At about 4:26PM PST, moderator Dave Stealey approved sent me notice (on my cellphone) of our 1 millionth comment on WUWT.

Who was it? See the screencap.

WUWT_Comment_1Million

Comment 1 million is at the top of the list. Regular commenter “Jimbo” was oh so close, at comment 999,999.

My sincere thanks to Dave, who was watching for this when I couldn’t, as well as our entire WUWT moderation team, and of course, you the readers and commenters.

I’ll contact Poptech privately on where to send his coffee mug.

Looking at the dashboard, you are going to need more space on the server before long! Congrats

So about 1 in 143 views generates a comment. I wonder what the typical blog gets. Are WUWT readers more engaged than elsewhere?

Careful, Anthony…the mug, t-shirt, or whatever you disperse could be accused of being, “flashy” and “apparently widely distributed.”

PopTech richly deserves a T-shirt or mug! His site doesn’t immediately come to mind when you think about leading climate resources, like WUWT, Climate Audit, WoodForTrees, GWPF, JoNova, etc., but look at these remarkable compilations that he’s quietly assembled:
100 news stories from the 1970s about the threat of global cooling:
http://www.populartechnology.net/2013/02/the-1970s-global-cooling-alarmism.html
1100+ Peer-Reviewed Papers Supporting Skeptic Arguments Against ACC/AGW Alarm

Congratulations, Anthony, for attracting so many committed people to your site including the great authors and the enthusiastic readership. Congrats too to PopTech for being there when somebody had to be :).

Assuming we are to honor the most basic of statistics, it should go to Poptech.

Well, a million here, a million there; pretty soon you’re talking real money. Could buy you a cup of Obama coffee in Washington DC.
Way to go, Poptech.

You know, Dave Stealey deserves a prize representing the population of moderators, the mostly unsung heros of WUWT. Well done all. I’ll score the tip jar for his prize.
Just a suggestion…. How about a post that rolls the credits for this entertaining show.

Poptech – I have enjoyed your comments, as I am sure many here have. You have demonstrated great humility in accepting this (dubious?) award and congrats. However, get the mug! (then send it to me, I’m a huge coffee drinker). The mug is so much cooler than the cheesy Ignoble Prize piece of paper that Mann stuck on his window. Cheers!

That’s one small (but notable) step for Poptech… one giant leap for Anthony Watts! May it be a tipping point in the cause of honest science.

Anthony: this posting reminded me to buy some of the WUWT stuff. CafePress comes up but the main body is blank, ergo none of your stuff is displayed. True for whatever link I tried.

10^6 (1,000,000 = 1m) is a nice milestone, but another milestone is close… closing in on 2^20 (1,048,576 = 1M) comments.

I think Moore’s law will take care of the storage problem by the time your current limit is reached.

Well done, Poptech – of course the rest of us are jealous now. Cheers! 🙂

CONGRATULATIONS Poptech. Now I know why you’ve been posting so heavily recently. 😉
When I got to the WUWT front page I never, ever thought I would appear ANYWHERE near the top. My new handle will be “999,999 oh so close”. 🙂
Anthony, may I suggest you actually link to Poptech’s comment.

Oh, and congratulations to the moderators, Anthony, other commenters and posters. All this would not be possible without you.

March 18, 2013 11:17 pm

A BIG thank you, Anthony & Co., for being THE vehicle of reason in what has become a seemingly irrational debate over the primary driver behind climate change (because Nature is never enough when humanity involves its ego)!
