At about 4:26PM PST, moderator Dave Stealey approved sent me notice (on my cellphone) of our 1 millionth comment on WUWT.
Who was it? See the screencap.
Comment 1 million is at the top of the list. Regular commenter “Jimbo” was oh so close, at comment 999,999.
My sincere thanks to Dave, who was watching for this when I couldn’t, as well as our entire WUWT moderation team, and of course, you the readers and commenters.
I’ll contact Poptech privately on where to send his coffee mug.
🙂 Congratz Poptech!
Congratulations to Poptech – and to you, Anthony, and the mods.
A coffee mug! Financed by BigOil, I’m sure…
Rats, it wasn’t me. 🙂
Jimbo: says It’s a Fix I tells ya, a Fix!! 🙂
What Jimbo must be thinking right now:
(seriously, congratulations, Poptech!
I’m Poptech.
Now let’s go for TWO million.
Congratulations Anthony. Thanks to you and your helpers. Here’s to the next million.
I want to make comment # 10,000,000
Any guesses on the date for that one?
Let’s hope the climate scams will be buried long before then….
Re my 6:53, My intended Kirk Douglas satire was ended when the comments system removed my unworthy efforts at including chevrons for html phrases. /guilt.
Congratulations!
Pretty impressive! Keep up the good work.
awesome job bringing the news that matters!
Nice!
Woah Poptech, balboa got the 1,000,000th post over on newsbusters, years ago…..Not to much weather stuff over there as of late…
Damn! I’ll bet I was 1000,001st!! Must try harder for 2,000,000th, but hope this AGW saga is buried before then.
LOL!
I don’t drink coffee so I politely declined Anthony’s gracious offer. That is still a pretty amazing number of comments and something the moderators here deserved quite a bit of admiration for dealing with.
REPLY: OK how about a t-shirt? – Anthony
Uh oh … I hate to say it it, but, you’re up to 72% utilization on “storage space allowed”!
What happens at the 100% point?
My only regrets is If I had known I would of made it about climate change *sigh*. ; )
Congratulations!! I think Michael Mann is catching up to though, I bet he has deleted close to a million comments.
Can’t believe the millionth comment was about bitcoins (which I keep mis-reading as britcoins). I suppose economic theory — and how bitcoins operate — count as some of those puzzling things in life that fall within the purview of WUWT? What is more puzzling is that Poptech does not apparently drink tea either? Or hot chocolate? There are lots of us here who would have loved to get that mug!
I wonder what mike Manns take will be on the whole thing.
“Anthony Watts in Big Oil funded mass coffee mug mail out bribe scandal” …?
“Waaaahhh! Climate denier deprives legitimate scientists of coffee mugs!” …?
Poptech – Congratulations!
Anthony and crew – excellent work; love the site!
Looking at the dashboard, you are going to need more space on the server before long! Congrats
So about 1 in 143 views generates a comment. I wonder what the typical blog gets. Are WUWT readers more engaged than elsewhere?
Careful, Anthony…the mug, t-shirt, or whatever you disperse could be accused of being, “flashy” and “apparently widely distributed.”
PopTech richly deserves a T-shirt or mug! His site doesn’t immediately come to mind when you think about leading climate resources, like WUWT, Climate Audit, WoodForTrees, GWPF, JoNova, etc., but look at these remarkable compilations that he’s quietly assembled:
100 news stories from the 1970s about the threat of global cooling:
http://www.populartechnology.net/2013/02/the-1970s-global-cooling-alarmism.html
1100+ Peer-Reviewed Papers Supporting Skeptic Arguments Against ACC/AGW Alarm
http://www.populartechnology.net/2009/10/peer-reviewed-papers-supporting.html
In honor of the milestone, I just donated $1 for every comment.
ooops… I meant 20 bucks.
Congrats!
Poptech,
The
million dollar manmillionth comment man.Hey, keep on commenting.
John
Congratulations, Anthony, for attracting so many committed people to your site including the great authors and the enthusiastic readership. Congrats too to PopTech for being there when somebody had to be :).
Assuming we are to honor the most basic of statistics, it should go to Poptech.
You have coffee mugs???? (Excuse me, I’m periodically out of touch)
Happy Thousand-Squared!
Well, a million here, a million there; pretty soon you’re talking real money. Could buy you a cup of Obama coffee in Washington DC.
Way to go, Poptech.
You know, Dave Stealey deserves a prize representing the population of moderators, the mostly unsung heros of WUWT. Well done all. I’ll score the tip jar for his prize.
Just a suggestion…. How about a post that rolls the credits for this entertaining show.
Congrats to poptech. I hope there is broken hockey stick logo on the mug!
Thanks to Anthony and the mods, Much appreciated~!
Your efforts will be rewarded Anthony .. more so than now. Thanks,
CAS
OK, what am I doing wrong with the “Donate” of “Fling funds” links?
Poptech – I have enjoyed your comments, as I am sure many here have. You have demonstrated great humility in accepting this (dubious?) award and congrats. However, get the mug! (then send it to me, I’m a huge coffee drinker). The mug is so much cooler than the cheesy Ignoble Prize piece of paper that Mann stuck on his window. Cheers!
That’s one small (but notable) step for Poptech… one giant leap for Anthony Watts! May it be a tipping point in the cause of honest science.
Anthony: this posting reminded me to buy some of the WUWT stuff. CafePress comes up but the main body is blank, ergo none of your stuff is displayed. True for whatever link I tried.
congrats Poptech, Anthony, mods and fellow commenters.
WUWT is simply the best.
10^6 (1,000,000 = 1m) is a nice milestone, but another milestone is close… closing in on 2^20 (1,048,576 = 1M) comments.
I think Moore’s law will take care of the storage problem by the time your current limit is reached.
Well done, Poptech – of course the rest of us are jealous now. Cheers! 🙂
I”m just glad lazyteenager or trafaminadore or what ever his name is didn’t get it.
CONGRATULATIONS Poptech. Now I know why you’ve been posting so heavily recently. 😉
When I got to the WUWT front page I never, ever thought I would appear ANYWHERE near the top. My new handle will be “999,999 oh so close”. 🙂
Anthony, may I suggest you actually link to Poptech’s comment.
[Reply: Try This. -ModE ]
Oh, and congratulations to the moderators, Anthony, other commenters and posters. All this would not be possible without you.
A BIG thank you, Anthony & Co., for being THE vehicle of reason in what has become a seemingly irrational debate over the primary driver behind climate change (because Nature is never enough when humanity involves its ego)!
But…but… my model said i won last Thursday at 3:02 pm.
Eugene WR Gallun
Congratulations, to Poptech and WUWT!
May you live long and prosper!
Andrew says: “I’ll contact Poptech privately on where to send his coffee mug.”
Northville Mental Asylum, my bet :p
Poptech, if you don’t want the coffee mug, because you don’t drink coffee, can I suggest you ask Anthony if he’ll give you one of the other mugs. He does tea, drinking chocolate, tisane, hot milk, cocoa etc. Also he has containers for eggs so you can beat them up to make omelettes, liquid cold cure receptacles and, finally, pencil and biro holders for your desk.
He tries to keep those others secret though, so don’t tell anyone.
JF
Congrats. What a milestone. 2013 is our year!
Lets just work on some substance in those comments now, hey guys?
If Poptech doesn’t want his mug then why not sell us all a 1,000,000th mug replica with a nod to Poptech included – I would buy a couple. Any profits to boost WUWT finances.
Thank you all and especially Anthony and Mr. Stealey for this great honor and my condolences to the runner up Jimbo – who wished I never got into an argument about bitcoins ; )
As a consolation prize Anthony, if you don’t mind please send the cup to Jimbo.
I would like to note that it is quite remarkable that the 1 millionth comment happened on the biggest story Anthony ever broke.
Congratulations to Anthony and the moderators for this enormous result over only a few years (and congrats to the lucky Poptech…). You see what happens if both sides are allowed to give their opinions without RC type censoring: interesting articles and interesting debates, sometimes fierce, but mostly on topic…
In fact, after robust and entirely reasonable adjustments to the historic posting record, I think you’ll find that *this* is the one millionth post.
I think you’ll find – after robust and entirely reasonably adjustments to the historic posting record – that *this* is, in fact, the one millionth post.
Poptech, now that you are Mega, you might wish to look at your link information – you are missing the R in populaRtechnology.
Hey Anthony, why not auction the coffee mug?

That’s it, Elmer … The inspiration for your next song …
Communicatin’ science in the post-normal way
Deleting all posts from those who don’t see things my way
Hide the declines
Your hockey stick’s broke and your numbers are bent
Against views of Watts, you just can’t make a dent
Hide the declines
I know you can improve on the above 😉
Congratulations to Anthony, Mods, Poptech (and to Jimbo for being soooooo close!). Here’s to the next milestone!

In the midst of all that requires heavy-duty thinking, how wonderful to have this kind of reason to smile 🙂
We’re all winners – they’ve been taking us all for mugs for years!
So when we hit 2 million comments does the lucky person get 2 coffee mugs?
Only seems fair.
My wife and I are both Poptech
” Andrew says:

I’m Poptech.”
We Are All Poptech.
By the way mods, who was 1,000,001? They also came oooooh so close.
Great job Anthony.
cn
Can’t we ALL get a mug?
But congrats to Poptech and all WUWT fans and commenters.
Actually, we all owe Anthony a mug — or at least a dinner!
Here’s to the 1,000,000th comment, and hoping for 1,000,000 more! 🙂
Reblogged this on Climate Daily.

LOL nice try 🙂
Congrats poptech and thanks for your website, it’s a valuable resource.
I wonder how much I missed by. Sigh
236,636 = Spam: A Lot!
I’m not sure if I’m the only one who missed it until now, but in case anyone else out there has been oblivious like me, we can order WUWT mugs:

Too funny! Thanks!
And many thanks to the mods, contributors, and Anthony,
Congrats, Poptech, and thanks for a couple useful computer tips you posted here.
As we are all contributors, we are all recipients of the coffee mug.
Be sure to put it on your resume.
Where do I download my certificate? I want to post a picture of it on FB.
If humans had 8 fingers and 8 toes, we would have celebrated the 262,144th comment. If we had 12 fingers and 12 toes we would have to wait for the 2,985,984th comment to celebrate. Personally, I wish humans had 16 fingers and 16 toes. Learning to use hexadecimal would be so much easier.
KnockJohn, thanks for the correction, that is what I get for being up for 24 hours straight.
See this is what you get for the arduous effort of compiling 1,100 sceptical papers. A coffee mug.
What, you don’t like me appending unrelated datasets? But, but, but I learned this trick from impeccable climate scientists!
A well earned well done to Poptech from me!
Congrats Poptech !
Amazing really.
I do hope this scam is fully crushed before we reach 2 million comments .
LOL and I was thinking about updating the list recently but was foiled by Climategate 3, so it will have to wait a little while. These two quotes are rather fitting right now, one from Climategate 3 and the other about my list,
“Analyses like these by people who don’t know the field are useless. A good example is Naomi Oreskes work.” – Tom Wigley, Fellow, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
“Wow, the list is pretty impressive …It’s Oreskes done right.”
– Luboš Motl, Ph.D. Theoretical Physics
Great work guys. Keep it up
A million Thanks! to all of the WUWT moderators, for doing what Y’all do so well!
MtK
Poptech;
You are hereby awarded a free mug.
