WUWT milestone – 1 million comments

At about 4:26PM PST, moderator Dave Stealey approved sent me notice (on my cellphone) of our 1 millionth comment on WUWT.

Who was it? See the screencap.

WUWT_Comment_1Million

Comment 1 million is at the top of the list. Regular commenter “Jimbo” was oh so close, at comment 999,999.

My sincere thanks to Dave, who was watching for this when I couldn’t, as well as our entire WUWT moderation team, and of course, you the readers and commenters.

I’ll contact Poptech privately on where to send his coffee mug.

Any guesses on the date for that one?
Let’s hope the climate scams will be buried long before then….

March 18, 2013 7:46 pm

Damn! I’ll bet I was 1000,001st!! Must try harder for 2,000,000th, but hope this AGW saga is buried before then.

March 18, 2013 7:48 pm

LOL!

March 18, 2013 7:52 pm

I don’t drink coffee so I politely declined Anthony’s gracious offer. That is still a pretty amazing number of comments and something the moderators here deserved quite a bit of admiration for dealing with.

Uh oh … I hate to say it it, but, you’re up to 72% utilization on “storage space allowed”!
What happens at the 100% point?

March 18, 2013 7:57 pm

My only regrets is If I had known I would of made it about climate change *sigh*. ; )

Congratulations!! I think Michael Mann is catching up to though, I bet he has deleted close to a million comments.

Can’t believe the millionth comment was about bitcoins (which I keep mis-reading as britcoins). I suppose economic theory — and how bitcoins operate — count as some of those puzzling things in life that fall within the purview of WUWT? What is more puzzling is that Poptech does not apparently drink tea either? Or hot chocolate? There are lots of us here who would have loved to get that mug!

March 18, 2013 8:10 pm

I wonder what mike Manns take will be on the whole thing.
“Anthony Watts in Big Oil funded mass coffee mug mail out bribe scandal” …?
“Waaaahhh! Climate denier deprives legitimate scientists of coffee mugs!” …?

Careful, Anthony…the mug, t-shirt, or whatever you disperse could be accused of being, “flashy” and “apparently widely distributed.”

PopTech richly deserves a T-shirt or mug! His site doesn’t immediately come to mind when you think about leading climate resources, like WUWT, Climate Audit, WoodForTrees, GWPF, JoNova, etc., but look at these remarkable compilations that he’s quietly assembled:
100 news stories from the 1970s about the threat of global cooling:
http://www.populartechnology.net/2013/02/the-1970s-global-cooling-alarmism.html
1100+ Peer-Reviewed Papers Supporting Skeptic Arguments Against ACC/AGW Alarm

Just a suggestion…. How about a post that rolls the credits for this entertaining show.

Poptech – I have enjoyed your comments, as I am sure many here have. You have demonstrated great humility in accepting this (dubious?) award and congrats. However, get the mug! Poptech, if you don’t want the coffee mug, because you don’t drink coffee, can I suggest you ask Anthony if he’ll give you one of the other mugs. He does tea, drinking chocolate, tisane, hot milk, cocoa etc. Also he has containers for eggs so you can beat them up to make omelettes, liquid cold cure receptacles and, finally, pencil and biro holders for your desk.
He tries to keep those others secret though, so don’t tell anyone.

If Poptech doesn’t want his mug then why not sell us all a 1,000,000th mug replica with a nod to Poptech included – I would buy a couple. Any profits to boost WUWT finances.

March 19, 2013 12:29 am

Thank you all and especially Anthony and Mr. Stealey for this great honor and my condolences to the runner up Jimbo – who wished I never got into an argument about bitcoins ; )
As a consolation prize Anthony, if you don’t mind please send the cup to Jimbo.

March 19, 2013 12:36 am

I would like to note that it is quite remarkable that the 1 millionth comment happened on the biggest story Anthony ever broke.

March 19, 2013 12:52 am

Congratulations to Anthony and the moderators for this enormous result over only a few years (and congrats to the lucky Poptech…). You see what happens if both sides are allowed to give their opinions without RC type censoring: interesting articles and interesting debates, sometimes fierce, but mostly on topic…

If humans had 8 fingers and 8 toes, we would have celebrated the 262,144th comment. If we had 12 fingers and 12 toes we would have to wait for the 2,985,984th comment to celebrate. Personally, I wish humans had 16 fingers and 16 toes. Learning to use hexadecimal would be so much easier.

LOL and I was thinking about updating the list recently but was foiled by Climategate 3, so it will have to wait a little while. These two quotes are rather fitting right now, one from Climategate 3 and the other about my list,
“Analyses like these by people who don’t know the field are useless. A good example is Naomi Oreskes work.” – Tom Wigley, Fellow, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
Wow, the list is pretty impressive …It’s Oreskes done right.”
