Al Gore on Obama's failed debate performance – 'it was the altitude', not the attitude

I would not have believed this if I wasn’t able to see it myself. This bloviation even tops Gore’s “Earth’s interior is millions of degrees” comment on live TV. Watch this video segment from Gore’s Current TV:

So how does he explain Romney’s performance? High altitude training?

And to think this man almost became president and is the most globally recognized spokesman for global warming.

Even far-Left CNN’s polling shows: “67% win for Romney, 25% for Obama.”
0bama was exposed last night as the inept, lazy, incompetent place-holder that he has been for the past four years. And there is another debate coming up. 0bama must be terrified.
From the highly regarded Powerline blog:

Mitt Romney was in control from the beginning. He was the alpha male, while Barack Obama was weak, hesitant, stuttering, often apologetic. The visuals were great for Romney and awful for Obama. Obama looked small, tired, defeated after four years of failure, out of ammo.

America deserves better than this feminine ‘community organizer’.

So much for media “eye candy”. LOL

But it bothers me that in 2006, his last year as governor, Romney spent all or part of 212 days out of state, laying the foundation for his anticipated presidential campaign. His job approval numbers had slipped to as low as 34% approve, 65% disapprove. He was at 66% approve and 33% disapprove a few months into his term.
Some of that was obviously due to his opposition to gay marriage and civil unions. He also raised a lot of government fees. Balanced budget was a law in Massachusetts, so he took a lot of austerity measures. But much that wasn’t being done elsewhere in the country after the 2000 recession. Job growth in Massachusetts rose at a rate of 1.5 percent (compared to the national average of 5.3 percent), placing Massachusetts 47th of the 50 states in new job creation over the course of Romney’s term.
That he did extraordinary accomplishments… where’s the beef?

When you need someone to make excuses for you, you want someone who can make credible excuses and Al Gore did not fill that role for Obama. And he certainly didn’t help himself either. There are plenty of Obama supporters who could have done a better job explaining his debate performance, or at least obfuscating it. But instead in one bumbling interview Gore both drew attention to Obama’s poor debate performance and then provided an obviously made up on the spot excuse for it.
Obama staff to Al Gore: please don’t do us any more favors.

Didn’t read it all. Maybe you could summarize it in your own words.
Just wanted to say:

The following is an extract from the climate chapter of Nate Silver’s new book – regarding Al Gore’s film,

“…sometimes [being] less cautious, portraying a polar bear clinging to life in the Arctic, or South Florida and Lower Manhattan flooding over. Films like these are not necessarily a good representation of the scientific consensus.”

Any problem with it? Well Dana at SkS felt it needed addressing: he points out that Arctic sea ice is further declining (relevance to polar bears?) and he says that “it’s certainly true that south Florida and Manhattan could eventually become flooded as a result of sea level rise.”.
So scare tactics based around exaggerations therefore are a good representation of the scientific consensus, right Dana?

What a chilling thought that an australopithecine like Al Gore came so close to the presidency. I have to wonder when this fool will be parted from his money – and hope that it won’t be long.
I propose that we enact a 200% ad valorem tax on all of Al Gore’s income and property plus vigorous enforcement of the regulation against improper shoelace tying on him (in his case, at a penalty of $500,000 per occurrence, one shoe is an occurrence). And do the samed for all AGW scaremongers – we an identify them from their publushed “scientific” papers. Maybe that way the taxpayers could get back some of these people’s ill-gotten gains and some of the monies squandered on chading the CO2 bogeyman.
And maybe some of these miscreants might get the message that what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. You want to tax and regulate me to death? OK, then I’ll tax and regulate you personally to the limit.
No, not entirely tongue in cheek.

Like someone says above take the teleprompter away and all you have left is teeth and ears.
Obama will win though, why would you replace a puppet with a muppet?

Aircraft cabins are pressurized to 8000ft. at 10,000ft you need to start breathing oxygen to maintain the equivalent sea level partial pressure of oxygen. At 30,000ft 100% pure oxygen must be breathed and above that height pressure breathing must be used. This is for operating aircrew in a non pressurized aircraft. Mildly anoxic passengers tend to want to sleep which keeps them quiet.
Obama just couldn’t handle it against Romney.

Heh, his next production will be titled, “An Inconvenient Mouth.”

Or, perhaps, “An Incontinent Mouth”
As for Obama’s (unsurprisingly) lacklustre performance … well (with sincere apologies to Bob Dylan):
Hey! Mr Big Excuse Man, play a song for me
I’m so sleepy and there is no place you’re going to
Hey! Mr Big Excuse Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning no one’s followin’ you.
Though I know that someone’s empire has returned into sand
Teleprompter has been banned
Left you blindly there to stand and fear to speaking
Your bleariness amazes me, and Romney has you beat
‘Tho your fans are sure to tweet
Their approval of your empty suit so unappealing

Maybe it is the latitude? I guess it is just the ‘tude.

October 5, 2012 8:34 am

278. I think the number is 278 Florida voters that tipped the 2000 election. Talk about a close call.
I’m from Florida. I’ve been to mile-high places before and I felt no difference. The average airliner has a cabin altitude of 8000′ The aircrew does a thoughtful job without trouble at this altitude.
14000′ is mandatory O2 for passengers. 5000′ is nothing.
Gore is so disconnected from reality that he’s not embarrassed by his ridiculous statement.

Hi Barefoot boy from Brooklyn:
Well guess what, I’m a sea-level type too. I too have been to Denver many times and never experienced “headaches” that you describe. I have been able to function effectively at scientific meetings there within 2-3 hours after landing; I would argue that the level of thought required to plan scientific satellite missions is much higher than the level of thought required by a political debate. By contrast, I did experience mild altitude sickness at Jackson Hole, WY (elevation approx. 6400 ft.)
Face it, your boy was totally unprepared and blew it. Al Gore’s excuse-making is lame, and your attempted defense nearly as lame.

Don Worley says (October 4, 2012 at 6:26 pm): “I think he just needed a cigarette. Looked a bit angry.”
Well, nicotine withdrawal is a more plausible excuse than altitude sickness.

@Barefoot Boy – Yes your defence of Gore is indeed lame. I have been mountaineering for 30 years and have never heard of anyone developing symptoms of altitude sickness at only 5000ft. Not ONCE. In 30 years.

Well, at least Big Al didn’t try to blame Obama’s performance on George W. Bush.

October 5, 2012 5:12 pm

Above 8,000 ft, the air pressure is responsible for slowing down the exchange of oxygen in your system, but you can acclimatize to it. But Obama didn’t seem comfortable as before, he’ll rally, that could have been a ploy. It’s all political hype. I am not American but his stance on AGW seems to be something he would rather put behind him, and Gore too!

I think Obama’s drained. Just doesn’t have the fire in his belly any longer. Can’t say that I blame him. The guy’s aged ten years since 2008.
Likely he’s aged many more as just as much. Not having a job will do that to you as well.

October 5, 2012 6:10 pm

Idd, actually that is expected, non of us can imagine the pressure and work schedule country leaders have to endure. Rather them than me. I reckon Mrs Obama would be a good supporter, she looks harder than him, not in physical looks of course but personality. But one thing I can not understand is why the health scheme proposed was knocked back? I assume it was because of the cost to the country with your huge population. Maybe the GOP can somehow modify this, otherwise I doubt if anyone who isn’t covered as yet, will vote for them.

Better check for early Alzheimers and its hockey stick-shaped growth pattern in the population as a result of human-caused climate change and declining ice cover at one of the poles. Perhaps consensus group think is also an earlier indicator of onset.

October 5, 2012 9:52 pm

I still think Obama is trying to put Gore behind him, he is trying to offer some opinion and he won’t come straight out with it. Gore misled Congress, so have the IPCC, and Gore has not got his head in the clouds, he has it in his back pocket, where he keeps his wallet. He is a big investor in green energy remember. And I hope he goes broke!
