The Carbon Trust Footprinting Certification Company has calculated the carbon used in making the bra and will monitor the project to ensure emissions are cut.
The wonderbra, it isn’t, but somehow, from a guy’s perspective, seeing the models below, I don’t think any guy is going to give a hoot about the carbon neutrality of undies.

Gotta wonder though if this:

Isn’t just code for “sweatshop with no lights”. At the M&S website for the bra, there’s no mention or photos of the factory that I could find, though there are mentions of how buying one of these will supposedly benefit the purple-faced langur and the Ceylon rose butterfly.
I guess they haven’t gotten the Wal-Mart memo yet:

Thank you, thank you, thank you, I cannot thank you enough. As I am in my early 50s I now have a legitamte excuse to gaze endlessly at lovely young women with impunity, I can now claim I am studying them to assess whether they are wearing low-carbon underwear or not as the case may be. Justice at last, there is a god! Thank you once again from the heart of my bottom! :-))

Not at all; the latest eco trend uses an all natural product created without a carbon footprint and uses no electricity whatsoever. It’s called a beeswax candle. jk

Actually, I agree with Cheryl. It really does look quite good. On the other hand, I did have a good giggle when I saw the headline in the DT; especially as I had just read about the llama-borne little fish!
Maybe the most eco-friendly thing to do would be to go bra-less! That might cause visual pollution, however.
I read this to a group of friends. A titter ran through the crowd.
I love stuff like this and encourage it.
Articles such as Llama/fish/climate change or Climate change/Bolivia/Gaia just reinforce the absurdity of the global warming mythos. These folorn semi-magical adventures in the realms of ‘Carbon’ are at the opposite end of the spectrum to gross Al Gore and his energy gobbling beach mansions… tell tale sign for ordinary folk that all is not entirely ‘ scientific ‘ in the house of Climate Changers.

Guess Wal-Mart wised up. The greenies wanted them ‘green’ but they sure as hell weren’t going to shop there — not where all the peasants gather. So Wal-Mart is back to basics — back to the cheapest goods possible for customers who may be working two jobs just to stay afloat and aren’t interested in saving the planet, just their own selves, trying to keep from going under.
“Next will be the bikini with solar cells incorporated into the fabric.”
Why not combine that with the “Wine Rack” and use it as a form of pumped storage to cover periods of darkness?

Nice idea, Dave. If we load the Wine Rack with the product of methode champenoise, we would also have carbon capture and storage! Much of the carbon dioxide would be absorbed upon consumption, and eventually exhaled, but the product of human respiration doesn’t count as anthropogenic emissions, so a tradeable carbon credit would be created. One’s (D) cup would runneth over!

How about solar cells in beach towels and beach umbrellas instead? I got it – a beach umbrella could power a small refrigerator to keep food and drinks cool.
It reminds me of that wacky CO2 corset. But will wearing the CO2 neutral bra cancel out the strangulation effects of wearing the CO2 corset? The mind boggles…
And I’m sure they ship them to the U.S. by rowboat.

I love Bolivia giving nature legal status. I can just see an accident killing 3 when a car hits a tree and then the tree suing the grieving families for damages. Where does the money go, if the tree wins? Do they set up a trust and hire a trustee and arborist to care for the tree the rest of its natural life. How much should damages be if a tree can live 100s of years? Too many questions. Who is going to watch the trustee to make sure that he or she is not taking advantage of the tree’s passive approach to life?
If I forget to water my lawn or give it lawn treatments, is the lawn or a lawn activist going to sue me for neglect?
This would certainly be a way to create jobs – mainly for lawyers.
The Greenies just want Wal-Mart dead becuase it is a shining example of capitalism at it’s best (economies of scale) and worst (predatory pricing). But bottom line is Wal-Mart is the best thing to ever happen to the working poor and lower middle class, especially in rural areas. Not just for providing goods, but for providing decent jobs.
Honest to god I really don’t know what the Watermelons enivision as their utopian future. Really, they do come off as envisioning a 1984 or 2112 (for you Rush fans) where they, the enlightened elite, enjoy the fruits of human history and knowledge while the untermenschen toil in some 15th Century nightmare of windmills and some wretch inducing vegan-organic starvation diet. At least in 1984 they had electricity most of the time.
I am so sorry Ms. Jawarlal, but we all must make sacrifices to save the planet and so the high cost of our glorious peoples’ factory solar panels means that we can only afford to pay you a mere pittance- take it or leave it.
If those are the examples, I have to say the choice of boobs and bras demonstrates a lack of understanding about boobs and bras. Any bra is wasted on Model A, carbon neutral or not. Somebody order her a hamburger, fry and shake. On the second model, a strapless carbon neutral bra would have to be super glued to stay on and “up”. Idiots.
Just drive down to your local store and buy one!

Are we to feel all warm and fuzzy over an eco friendly factory that is most likely paying low wages to employees doing formerly US jobs?
Anyway I always thought the most interesting thing about a bra was appreciating the woman inside.

Do carbon neutral bras come with two tags: (1) the normal tag indicating size and washing instructions, and (2) a warning tag that reads: “Removal may cause heavy CO2 exhalation?”
See what I mean, I told yer two days ago that it was a dull week without Louise doing a dumb cut and paste. Like others, I gave up buying the Telegraph years ago, just full of Guff, except of course for Booker and Delingpole. Oh and sometimes Gerald Warner.
When they finally go bust, they’ll still be wondering why – but on the other hand it’ll lower their carbon footprint, so “under every dark cloud etc……”
If it is cotton, the poluted by killing the plants that absorb cotton!
If it is synthetic, how much polution was created by extracting the ingredients from oil?
