The U.N., failing to convince the world, turns to Hollywood on global warming

Ban Ki-moon, South Korean politician
Ban Ki Moon

February 22, 2011: “Global warming: The United Nations courts Tinseltown“, Los Angeles Times, California, U.S.A.

“Now the beleaguered multi-national agency, fresh from a disappointing round of climate negotiations in Cancun, wants something more concrete: actual story lines in movies, television and social media drawing attention to the dangers of global warming.

The day-long gathering will feature panels titled … “Making Global Warming a HOT Issue” …

“The science is clear,” he [Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon] said in an interview. “Climate change will continue unless drastic measures are taken to stop it …. I am sure Hollywood can make good stories from this,” he said, adding that the outreach effort “may be a small start. We have to educate people who may not have the expertise and the information.”

Editor’s note: Ironically, even while Mr. Ban (who still fails to address the concerns of climate realists – see here) pushes Hollywood to promote climate alarmist “education”, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration just published a useful educational piece “Forensic Meteorology Solves the Mystery of Record Snows” in which they conclude:

“They found no evidence — no human “fingerprints” — to implicate our involvement in the snowstorms. If global warming was the culprit, the team would have expected to find a gradual increase in heavy snowstorms in the mid-Atlantic region as temperatures rose during the past century. But historical analysis revealed no such increase in snowfall. Nor did the CSI team find any indication of an upward trend in winter precipitation along the eastern seaboard.”

Read whole education piece from NOAA here:

NOAA’s CSI explains record snows: global warming not involved

…but get ready for more excited alarmism from Hollywood.”

I wasn’t actually aware that there were any movies or TV shows without some reference to the evils of global warming. If there are, could someone please direct me to them. I’m pretty sick of all the propaganda I’m getting through the “entertainment” media.

I’ve got a script idea: a big budget disaster CAGW movie climaxing with a massive storm surge along the Californian coast sweeping Gore’s $9 M ocean-view villa out to sea and carrying Al (http://www.judiciaryreport.com/images/steven-seagal-4-21-10.jpg ) with it and disappears.
Tipper (Meryl Streep) is rescued by the Atlantic Pioneer (http://www.ships-info.info/design/Atlantic_Pioneer.jpg ).

I get the feeling the Climate Change needs to be Terminated! I believe there is an ex-Govenor looking for some Hollywood work… could be a match made in UN IPCC dreams.
What exactly is meant by “stopping climate change” BTW? Are we going to create a stationary climate? Perhaps we should stop weather events too…. after all, some folks would have us believe they are linked to climate change, espcially the man-made variety. Perhaps a UN ban on temperature changes… day and night could pose a setback in this area, but if we find a way to stop the rotation of the earth we might fix that one too!
Some many ideas… so little funding…

Ban KI Moon received a B.A. in International Relations from Seoul National University in 1970, and earned a Master of Public Administration . Concerning climate change, Ban Ki Moon says ““The science is clear……..Climate change will continue unless drastic measures are taken to stop it”. Mr Moon knows as much about climate change as does my window cleaner i.e., No more, no less!

Ban di Moon has a good idea – A very good movie could be made about the future, in a world where the population listened to the politicians and the approved concensus scientists and stopped using the wicked gifts that are in the wonderful earth. No more oil, no coal, no fertilizers, no modern crops, no plastics, no machinery using carbon based fuels, not pesticides, no modern medicines – a beautiful utopia with everyone at one anothers throats through hunger and either freezing or roasting – greenie heaven!

oops,
I hadn’t realized Al and Tipper were estranged but that does open up other interesting story twists.

Fifty states!
Make it a competition and a challange.Let all states compete in how to best organize energy environment and economy.Let the cap&traders/windmills/solar compete with Thorium and shell gas. Let the people politicians and entrepeneurs in each state decide wich way to go. Do ya really think the best options/suggestions/solutions will come from the White house? China has more future inspired leadership for thier nation than the misantrophic czars in Washington. Just do it!!! Go independent!!

Incorrect words and attribution. The actual verse is: Here we go looby lou, etc. This originates from the pre 1930 era and has several variations. What it has to do with climate science is a mystery.

If they want to go Hollywood, I recommend that they court Warner Bros. and that it be released under WB’s Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies brand.

A direct appeal for propaganda assistance?
Now we know just how badly the CAGW fraud is faring in the real world, the CAGW cult has been making stuff up for years and now they need Hollywood to take over the promotion hard sell.
People need to be educated? They most certainly do!

Hollywood has already convinced us that businessmen are evil and America is a negative influence on the world. I am sure they can convince us of the dangers of returning carbon dioxide to the atmosphere from which it came originally.

A very good idea from the UN. Picture all the “drastic measures” which must be taken on the big screen, using the best Hollywood stars and directors available. Show the world what must be done to “stop global warming.” How about Cate Blanchet nobly putting humanity on carbon ration cards, to music by Jean-Yves Thibaudet? Show happy peasants glad to have far less electricity, at last, with music by Yo Yo Ma. Spare no expense; this is to save the planet, after all.

If so, UN, I suggest you spend my tax take on either:
‘CRU – When FOIA Time Ran Out’ (a MM Production, 2010)
‘Revenge of the Killer UHI Stations’ (Watts 2011?)
(preferably both starring jacqueline bisset)
Can you fix it, Mr Ban Ki Moon?

“We have to educate people who may not have the expertise and the information.” says Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.”
This is presumably because people who do have the expertise and the information already recognise the BS for what it is. Thus only people who do not have the expertise and the information would fall for it and it is to them the UN now turn.”
I think some of us have had enough of these propaganda based disaster movies anyway.
Let alone the likes of pseudo documentary movies on AGW/CC propaganda of An Inconvenient Truth, The Age of stupid, etc. kind.
AGW/CC propaganda is already creeping into a number of Drama TV shows, etc.
We already get enough of this crap being passed of in TV news and current affairs programs. Ban Ki Moon is going to being pushing it if he thinks he’s going to get more brainwashed AGW/CC converts with a bigger Hollywood PR propaganda campaign!

Actually I think he is right, Hollywood could make a really good film about CAGW. How a shadowy group, funding less than professional scientists, used a normal upswing in the world’s temperature to make themselves immensely rich and then tried to move toward global governance. Only they found that they were just too late as the climate started to rapidly cool. Initially their ‘funded scientists’ were persuaded to claim that the CO2 warmth was making the winters cold and the dry weather was leading to floods. But the people are no longer fooled; and the group panic and make last minute attempts to rescue their global takeover plans with more carbon regulations and taxes. However, the irate and starving people start to turn on the scientists and those in power who had over taxed them with ‘carbon taxes’, used food for fuel and forced them to use unreliable power generation.
Yes there are the germs of a good plot in there; I am sure Hollywood could go for that.

There used to (1960″s)be a nut who lived in a tepee that was in junkyard off of route 206 in rural South Jersey. He had all sorts of homemade billboards expressing his political beliefs. One of these read “get the U.S out of the U.N. and the U.N. out of the U.S..” Maybe he wasn’t such a nut.

“We have to educate people who may not have the expertise and the information.” says Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Well, Mr. Mountebank Loon! I suggest you start at home.
And, as for “the science is clear”, you could certainly have fooled me. The only “clear” thing, is the extent of incompetence and deliberate fraud in climate “science”. And that’s before you even start to look at policy issues and the supposed ‘solutions’ to the problem.

I like science fiction movies. I never tire of Them or the Andromeda Strain. But if they do propaganda films like Reefer Madness it will be a joke and not good entertainment.

Actually, I think maybe Disney would be a better one to re-create the fantasy.
Aim it at the 5 -8 year olds.
oops, I forgot….. they are already trying that through the schools…..
