Climate Alarmists stoop to new low – create "fake" newspaper and website to push climate agenda

UPDATE: From Daily Finance

Activists behind NY Post parody detained by police

The New York Post does not have a sense of humor about itself, it would seem.

Early this morning, some 2,000 activists affiliated with a group called The Yes Men handed out copies of a 32-page parody issue calling attention to climate change. But when volunteers tried to distribute copies outside the Post’s offices, they were detained by police and their papers were confiscated, says an eyewitness.

This won’t last long. I’m sure the New York Post won’t take kindly to ripping off their image and brand wholesale to promote this agenda.

The website is: http://nypost-se.com/ The “FAKE” label is mine so that this image doesn’t get confused with the real New York Post at http://www.nypost.com/

This fake version of the New York Post website seems to be part of the “New York Climate Week” effort, though it is hard to tell if it is connected or the work of a misguided person or sympathetic organization. Whomever it is behind it, it isn’t convincing anyone except for the galactically stupid.

As one attorney once said:

“Have you no sense of decency?”

– Joeseph Welch, June 9, 1954, during the McCarthy Senate hearings

The nypost-se.com domain name when looked up by WHOIS at Network Solutions does not appear to resolve to the New York Post, at 1211 Avenue of the Americas

New York, NY 10036-8790, but rather at another NYC address and a private individual.

So what’s next, fake celebrity endorsements?

By their own admission, the people who created the fake website apparently also distributed some newspapers they printed.

http://vimeo.com/6676567

Although the 32-page New York Post is a fake, everything in it is 100% true, with all facts carefully checked by a team of editors and climate change experts.

It will be interesting to see if the usual suspects will join in to denounce this abuse of journalistic ethics or if they’ll simply stay silent and say to themselves “the end justifies the means”.

The real New York Climate Week website is here:

“Ron de Haan (20:04:27) :
Climate Change is driven by population growth!
The next objective of the UN is to reduce the number of people:
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.506b7104e85d35fc4f8355e566ab5fad.261&show_article=1
That was the objective from the beginning. As someone most cogently put it on another site, the Global Warming hoax is nothing but population control at best, and genocide at worst. That remains true, whatever the intentions of the proponents, some of whom are, obviously, quite sincere.
I wonder if the real New York Post is aware of what has happened. I don’t know the laws which apply but, at least in Australia, there are laws against “passing off”, of which this presents a prime example.

the big problem with joe public, the alarmist, is he doesn’t understand any of the science behind the debate, but believes in global warming because al gore / hansen / ipcc told him so
i recently asked a few posters over at Richard Blacks BBC blog “what would it take to convince you AGW is false?” (from somebody who admits he doesn’t understand the science) and the answer i got back was “It would take the formal reversal of current scientific concensus at the level of either the IPCC or the National Academy(ies) of Science.” and “For it to actually be false.” (from somebody who simply doesn’t want it to be false.
And they call us “deniers”!

With a http://www.DomainTools.com subscription you can easily map all the website at any IP Address and then using cross references, such as the Email accounts used to register Domains, start building a map of the interconnections between the various organizations which are of interest. Starting with the website http://www.Nypost-se.com two web servers and fourteen (14) websites are easily identified. I am sure that the New York Times will not be ammused.

If you want to have some real fun try IP Explorer in Domain Tools, Internet cockroaches are such gregarious creatures and so predictable in their behavior. There is a lot more but this will give you a small idea of the what is really available on the Internet. For those of you who believe in WhoIs identity shields or anonymous identities, my advice is to save your time and money. For me, knowing that Internet anonymity is an illusion, I don’t wast my time on such childish nonsense.

The fake is dated Saturday, July 4th, 2009
I doubt the spineless press will do much about it as the fake doesn’t seem to differ much from the usual dross that goes for content.

Ron de Haan (19:21:52) :
Paul Vaughan (17:29:56) :Something’s up in Canada and I suspect that India and particularly the UK & China are involved. …
“China leaps ahead of U.S. in climate change battle”
http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20090921/un_china_090921/20090921?hub=SciTech
A very strange article.

On CNBC and CNBC World there was a bit of ‘de-spin’ on this. China is going to push for a standard of “Intensity per unit of national income”.
I would expect that to be in “per capita” terms.
So what they will do is simply hype their minor actions (they need ALL the energy they can get from ANY source, and being the major manufacturing site for anything electrical, they will have lots of solar panels made with cheap Chinese labor…). So they will put up solar panels. And don’t forget the “3 Gorges” damn that flooded huge tracts of gorgeous land… that is “renewable energy” too. So that will all be touted as they continue to build a coal plant a week (or 3…)
But the west will be asked to pay for their smog control equipment and hand over more cash to anything else they want to do. And they will simply point out that they produce less CO2 per $dollar of GDP per capita and so they get to develop more until they catch up.
Basically, the text tries to greenwash what is really happening. China is not on board with reduced coal burning. They ARE on board with free money from the west to put buy the solar panels they make and install them on homes in China. They ARE on board with the west providing cash and technology to install flue scrubbers. The ARE on board with the west providing cash payments for past “sins” until they have “caught up”.
Paul, I agree. This is a strange article. In essence it describes the “if you jump, I jump” attitude and pure spin from the Brits and Barosso but I still doubt if India and China will sign up to a Co2 reduction.
China will sign up for “You jump, then after you crash to a lower level of CO2 per capita than we have, we will consider jumping to our present level.”
Clever folks…
If the US does not join in there will be no serious treaty.
There will be no serious treaty. China is not on board, and India is reading their stuff and planning to follow suit. Anyone who DOES sign up will crash so hard and fast that they will have a revolution.
Look at California with our state version of C&T. We’re at 12.2% unemployment and rising and we have a non-politician announcing a run for Governor with an explicit plank of “Kill C&T to create jobs.” They specifically called it “A jobs killer with companies moving out of state.”
You don’t get re-elected with 12 to 15% unemployment and rising.
So I don’t care if they do sign an agreement. It is flat out doomed by physics and economics. Two very harsh mistresses. You can’t make the “Stuff” people need to live without the carbon fuels. You can’t keep the jobs they need to buy it if you have a Cap & Tirade system in place. SPLAT! In about 2 years max (assuming they actually abide by the requirements).
I will be watching and only investing in countries that do not sign up, or that get sweetheart deals to sign up (so are guaranteed an economic win). I expect that to be China, India, Brazil, Chili, and Eastern Europe (not traditional NATO countries and probably non-EU countries.) And perhaps South Africa. They live or die based on coal via SASOL, so I can’t see them signing up for death… (Literally. Coal power runs the mine ventilation and water pumping).

Thanks to Tom Nelson again, the Yes Men have been detained.

From the original article, “But when volunteers tried to distribute copies outside the Post’s offices, they were detained by police and their papers were confiscated, says an eyewitness.” They were detained for around 15 to 20 minutes.

Anthony,
I feel your pain. Folks don’t realize that it is we who take the heat when they (typically) post with a nick instead of a real name and it’s out of bounds.
It just sucks that you have to spend time doing that as well as finding and producing content.
Thank you for keeping it civil.

For anyone who is interested here is what an IP Explorer map of the areas about the two IP Addresses I referenced above looks like. You should be able to bring up the two IP maps and a truncated list of the websites at any given IP Address but you will need an account ($) to access the more interesting information.

Our comedians reside in interesting cyberspace neighborhoods and I suspect that some of their neighbors would not be as constrained as businessmen, if they became the object of their humor. After all, it is not nice to criticize hope and change. Happy exploring!

Michael Ronayne (06:12:55) :
Can you be a bit more specific. I hit the links (in the IP sense, not the little white dimpled ball sense), and can only see an IP and some boxes that look just enough not like a calendar so they wouldn’t be mistaken for one. Other than that I can’t make heads or tails of what I’m seeing.
Who are these neighbors who would not be ‘as constrained as businessmen’, and what might you be suggesting?
Just curious, because (and if you read any of my prior missives/inquiries etc, you know this is true) I can be a bit dense at times; inuendo and hinting often go over my head entirely unnoticed.
Thanks

I had a difficult time believing that these kooks would plan self-immolation in Copenhagen. A little googling provided more information that these are carefully choreographed stunts (with attendant safety precautions). [Now I’m trying to get the burning buddhist monk images out of my mind.]
In any event, what is the carbon footprint of such a grotesque demonstration? In the absence of compelling arguments…reach for shock and awe.

My thoughts exactly, at the end of that story. This is like Moby Dick, only in some weird, opposite-of-vengence way. Or rather, reverse-vengence, since WE’RE suppossed to be responsible for those three whales being trapped under the ice, I guess “we should” spend like no tomorrow. After all, what matters the monetary price when it’s the human suffering that counts? ( I say in bitter sarcasm)
This strays off-topic, but one good story deserves another…

Those aren’t the exact story I wanted to share, though, which I couldn’t find. The one I was looking for was about how the war in Afghanistan goes, how we are both at war… without being at war! We drop bombs on basically nothing (costing millions) whilst dropping food on everyone at the same time. Naturally, the Afghans are as confused as our wonderful and lost leadership here in the West is. But hey, so long as it wastes money, causes some harm, but doesn’t hurt whales, they figure it’s “all good”!
But the first link is telling as well. In the back of my mind I’ve always wondered if the West wasn’t building and maintaining this war on terror, given that the West is so determined to be down on itself these days.

I agree that the author of the site has the right to remove comments which bring a liability to his reputation or any comments for any reason – it’s his blog. His comment policy is completely respectable, unlike some sites like certain creationist, mainstream media and other sites where all critical comments are banned.
But I disagree with encouraging people to not post under anonymous handles and pseudonyms. Even if all people who hold power over you (employers, landlords, clients etc.) You might need to look for new work or residence or or what have you one day and while the Internet is never completely anonymous you don’t need to make it easy for people to know everything about you. I don’t expect people to give my comments any authority beyond there content as I claim no academic degree. I do not approve of the message that there is something intrinsically wrong with anonymous comments or posts. It is a sure method to make certain that only people with power and financial independance are heard and that the like-minded are able to circle the wagons and keep dissenters out of positions of power. Young people without a degree in specific should be careful as to what part of their belief systems they make public. Employers use Google.
