Climate Alarmists stoop to new low – create "fake" newspaper and website to push climate agenda

UPDATE: From Daily Finance

Activists behind NY Post parody detained by police

The New York Post does not have a sense of humor about itself, it would seem.

Early this morning, some 2,000 activists affiliated with a group called The Yes Men handed out copies of a 32-page parody issue calling attention to climate change. But when volunteers tried to distribute copies outside the Post’s offices, they were detained by police and their papers were confiscated, says an eyewitness.

This won’t last long. I’m sure the New York Post won’t take kindly to ripping off their image and brand wholesale to promote this agenda.

The website is: http://nypost-se.com/ The “FAKE” label is mine so that this image doesn’t get confused with the real New York Post at http://www.nypost.com/

This fake version of the New York Post website seems to be part of the “New York Climate Week” effort, though it is hard to tell if it is connected or the work of a misguided person or sympathetic organization. Whomever it is behind it, it isn’t convincing anyone except for the galactically stupid.

As one attorney once said:

“Have you no sense of decency?”

– Joeseph Welch, June 9, 1954, during the McCarthy Senate hearings

The nypost-se.com domain name when looked up by WHOIS at Network Solutions does not appear to resolve to the New York Post, at 1211 Avenue of the Americas

New York, NY 10036-8790, but rather at another NYC address and a private individual.

So what’s next, fake celebrity endorsements?

By their own admission, the people who created the fake website apparently also distributed some newspapers they printed.

http://vimeo.com/6676567

Although the 32-page New York Post is a fake, everything in it is 100% true, with all facts carefully checked by a team of editors and climate change experts.

It will be interesting to see if the usual suspects will join in to denounce this abuse of journalistic ethics or if they’ll simply stay silent and say to themselves “the end justifies the means”.

The real New York Climate Week website is here:

  1. This quote below came from their BEYOND TALK website. They’re looking for 10k volunteers for a civil disobedience demonstration.
“Scientists tell us that the maximum level of CO2 our atmosphere can safely bear is 350 parts per million. Beyond that, our our earth and its species are at imminent risk of catastrophic changes we’ll never be able to stop — meaning billions of people will die.
Today, the level of CO2 in the atmosphere is already at 390 worldwide — and it’s rising at 2 parts per million per year.”
So I guess if 350ppm is the max, and we’re at 390 now, it’s too late to do anything anyway, no? Let’s have a party!

  2. It looks to me that the Murdoch owned post is more than going along with it.

REPLY: I don’t think so, if you’ll read the text in that vimeo link above it says:
“Although the 32-page New York Post is a fake, everything in it is 100% true, with all facts carefully checked by a team of editors and climate change experts.”
I don’t see anything in there where they say it was licensed by the NY Post. If they actually printed fake newspapers without permission, well then they deserve every bit of legal that gets thrown at them. – Anthony

  3. McCarthy bought the USA time. You Americans has totally screwed up His efforts. Now you face AGW, PC, Socialism, Hollywood productions, Second New Deal, etc. Do you smell “that smell” (Lynyrd Skynyrd)?
    Regards

  4. One of my favorite uses of “galactically stupid” was Tom Cruise’s rant at Demi Moore in “A Few Good Men”.
I guess climate alarmists “can’t handle the truth.” 🙂

  5. The NYP is not going to take this lightly.I’d say copyright lawyers are going to do a little carbon footprinting…

  6. “Although the 32-page New York Post is a fake, everything in it is 100% true, with all facts carefully checked by a team of editors and climate change experts.”
    I have serious doubts that;
    a) everything is 100% true
    b) they are all facts
    c) the facts have been checked by editors with qualifications and experiance in environmental physics, chemistry & biology, let alone the tens of thousands of expertise hours clocked by specialists in their fields
    d) the facts have been checked by independent environmental scientists who do not have any ties in politics or finacial investment in green business/organisations.

  7. “Have you no decency left?”
That line was uttered after McCarthy made a true statement.
He was being mocked and asked if he could name any Communists in the government. He responded by identifying one on the questioner’s committee, who had been let go for his Communist ties, and this was reported by the New York Times.

  8. If you click on the Register link you go to beyondtalk.net which is a climate protester activist site that recruits people for climate protests.
This site is supported by our friends at 350.org among others.
I Believe that this group is responsible for the fake NY Post and they seem to think breaking the law in non-violent ways and risking arrest are all in a good days work.
From one year ago when Protesters adopted Shoe throwing at climate events to the now planned self-immolations for Copenhagen you can see where this is headed…

  9. I have watched several televised programs this weekend and today from stations all over Europe.
The Climate Change Doctrine is pushed to a level that is beyond hysteria.
In the Netherlands a politician who is pushing the Green Bandwagon for years went completely out of his mind when he was confronted with the trailer of “The Age of Stupid”, an alarmist follow up of “An Inconvenient Truth”.
Because of the emotional outbreaks, the opposing parties were suppressed and they did not get a chance to present their arguments.
This scam is imploding and the fake NYT web site very well underlines the case that the Warmists are more than desperate about their position and fear the outcome of Copenhagen.
Despite the titanic propaganda campaign to reach a positive outcome at the Copenhagen meeting, the political reality points in another direction.
I think the following article reflects that reality and Obama for the moment can do nothing to change that:
    http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/globalwarmingorg/~3/y7VigrySGoc/

  10. Well, never a day goes by on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that we are inundated with alarming news that global warming is causing some catastrophe somewhere on the globe.
Today on Fran Kelly’s breakfast show it was Papua New Guinea’s Carteret Islands which according to local resident Ursula Rakova who is presently in New York for Climate Action Week looking for relocation funds from the Climate Change Adaption kitty. Some background on the islands here:
    http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/Carteret_Islands
The ABC have been pushing this story for some years, see:
    http://www.abc.net.au/foreign/content/oldcontent/s2465584.htm
Whilst I have every sympathy with the Carteret Islanders and their desire to relocate to a more comfortable environment, I can only hope that those people in New York handing out tax payers’ funds around the globe please get all the facts as to if and why the islanders need to move and whether carbon dioxide is the real villain in this case.

  11. Actually it looks like some sort of satire based on the fears and agendas that liberal New Yorkers are brainwashed with on a regular basis. I was thinking of making a site just like that…erm…I am going to

  14. Ron de Haan (15:53:37) : “…This scam is imploding and the fake NYT web site very well underlines the case…”
NYT? Hey, New York Times, New York Post, what’s the diff? They’re all birdcage liners. When they go belly up (which they richly deserve), Polly goes back to the jungle.
Can you say “socialist agenda propaganda?” I knew you could.

  15. all facts carefully checked by a team of editors and climate change experts
You don’t need to be a scientists to be either.
What they consider to be an expert on climate change may be someone in a Smart car that has a “Save the Polar Bears” bumper sticker. Or better yet, someone who rides in a private jet to get to a conference on saving the world from global warming while telling others to ride a bike to work.

  16. wws (15:36:02) : “Fake but Accurate.” *sigh* Here we go again.
Maybe their motto should be ‘Fake and Unbalanced’.

  17. MikeN (15:49:44) :
I’m not saying ‘yea’ or ‘nay’ about McCarthy but it would have served him well if he hadn’t been so sloppy. He hurt his name more than anyone else.

  18. Gary Hladik (15:37:25) : Tom Cruise’s rant at Demi Moore in “A Few Good Men”
Did you mean Jack Nicholson to Tom Cruise?
“You Can’t Handle the Truth” video :

I thought he should have won an Oscar for it. But who knoweth from where those winners cometh.

  19. Ron de Haan (16:44:07) : Al Gore knows that postponing the Climate Bill could mean the end of his scheme.
I don’t think Al Gore knows anything but his neurosis — IMO.

  20. I find myself once again apologising for all Australians… Hugh Jackman has lost a lot of cred in my eyes… about as bad as that NIMBY Pierce Brosnan:
    http://www.smh.com.au/environment/global-warming/hugh-jackman-brings-star-appeal-to-climate-action-talks-20090922-fyv4.html
Got to give it to the warmistas though… they know that the vast proportion of the population is ignorant and easily led, and celebrity is the way to lead them. It’s a win-win for the celebs because they glow ever brighter in the eyes of the gulible.
    Sad times…

  21. The webpage looks like an NEA grant was put to good use.
OT: Sunspot appearing at 7 o’clock. Is this the one from the other side that was talked about a few days ago or was that supposed to show up on the right side?

  22. So you delete my cogent and relevant comments about the possibility of alarmists having charges brought against them and then in your very next article thread you publish such an article yourself of their “crimes” and make comments that the alarmists will get what they deserve for violating the copyright of the Post. I don’t get it. Obviously I’ve pissed you off or something and you’re mad now and not being fair to me as a result of your emotions. I just though that you were a fair minded person but I gather that I was mistaken and that your emotions are getting the better of your rationality at the moment. Or, maybe it’s your moderator that’s gone off the reservation.
Anthony, what you need to know is that I respect your blog and am an avid reader of it and I learn a lot about the science of AGW and CC here. I’m just disturbed that you’d let your emotions get the better of you with an unfair policy choice to censor relevant and cogent comments.
REPLY: “pwl” I’m done with this, you posted something using an anonymous handle that got snipped, you got upset about it, continued to push the issue on the sea ice thread, posted new comments on a DIFFERENT THREAD (this one) that wasn”t relevant to the thread, so that got deleted, and you also said (on the sea ice thread) that you weren’t going to “belabor the issue”. But here we are again with your insistence that it be discussed. You don’t get the option to spread your issues over multiple threads. – Anthony

  23. This is “yelling fire of a crowded planet”.
    It could cause a panic.
    Irresponsible and extremely dangerous.
This is in stark constrast to legal and responsible entities that carefully warn the public of imminent dangers.
Like preparing for a fierce storm, fire, flood, volcano, impending heat wave, blackout, tornado, ice storm, severe cold, outbreak, etc.

  24. Obama is pushing the climate change lies at the UN, just as the EU countries have figured out what the realities of the climate change hoax is on their economies.
It’s nothing more than a huge tax … just what the world does not need now.
When is someone going to ask, exactly how much does the temperature drop per trillion in new taxes?

  25. Something’s up in Canada and I suspect that India and particularly the UK & China are involved. For the past 3 or 4 years [at least] CTV has been a steadfastly right-wing news agency (I know Albertans will disagree), but maybe CTV senses the tide is about to turn on the (minority government) Conservatives?
“China leaps ahead of U.S. in climate change battle”

A very strange article. We live in very strange times. There’s no way to predict where this is going. I see the potential for a major public backlash. Interesting politics — lots of opportunity for those who can adapt-with-the-flow as events unfold.

  26. A fake New York Post newspaper that barely raises the interest, let alone the ire of the real newspaper owners and employees.
The Melbourne AGE newspaper stating that perception should trump truth and facts, because the politics of AGW is more important than the Science of Climate systems.
A media bias that borders on Goebbels like propaganda with language that is Orwellian in it’s tone and misdirection….
….. It must be embarrassing to be a journalist nowadays….. and those that aren’t, ain’t journalists.

  27. Don’t try to defend McCarthy. He deserved to be mocked and his response while true was far from the truth. In his typical fashion he sought to belittle and impugn his detractors not caring who he destroyed in the process. The man was a puffed up blow hard who went on a witch hunt and wound up burning himself at the stake.

  28. I remember a couple of decades back when there was a fake paper “Not the NY Post” which was a direct parody and IIRC, there was legal action as a result.

  29. That is a huge amount of effort to go to so I can’t see it being taken down any time soon. Even though I felt a little bit dirty every time I clicked on a link you have to be impressed with the creativity. Now if only they put that same drive into solving real environmental problems.
    cheers

  30. A recycling plant that turns plastic waste into oil at a price of $ 10.00 per barrel seems an interesting application to me.
There is only one disadvantage according to the author of the article.
It’s the fact that it produces cheap oil.
This is yet another proof how the process of brainwashing the minds of otherwise sensible people has advanced.
The reality that we are part of the carbon cycle and we should celebrate it is difficult to accept by those infected with the Alarmism Virus.
    http://www.gizmag.com/envion-plastic-waste-to-oil-generator/12902/

  31. I am starting to think “climate alarmists” might be the wrong phrase. What I find most frustrating is that good people who have the best of intentions in their hearts are being sold a bill of goods and I get upset when I see that. Most of the people who are behind the “alarmist” agenda don’t understand what they are being told. It is just so sad and so frustrating to see people taken advantage of in this way.

  32. Hugh Jackman reminds me once again of the great Homer Simpson quote:
“Movie Stars!!! Is there anything they DON’T know???”

  33. JC, suggest you read Stanton Evans “Blacklisted by History”. Very well researched. Given what we “thought” we knew about McCarthy and the current perception, its a rather interesting text. Relates here because it really shows how big media, career propagandists and the entertainment industry can so easily forge a lasting perception in the public’s mind, regardless of what the underlying facts actually are (for example, ask the average Joe on the street if the arctic ice extent is at all time lows this year). I’ll leave it there.

  34. ” Now if only they put that same drive into solving real environmental problems.” Why would they want to do that? I think you’re missing the point about these people. (That’s a rhetorical statement, I suspect you do get the point about these people 🙂 )

  35. Gene Nemetz (16:50:37)
The “galactically stupid” rant is Tom Cruise to Demi Moore. I was reminded of it by Anthony’s “galactically stupid” remark in the article. Deminitely a classic rant.
And of course that reminded me that climate alarmists “can’t handle the truth”, which is of course from the same film, a veritable treasure trove of quotes.
And don’t even get me started on “I strenuously object!” 🙂

  36. And I meant “definitely” instead of “deminitely”. As appropriate as that may be in a post partly about Demi Moore, I’m not smart enough to do it on purpose. 🙁

  37. Paul Vaughan
Maybe they have borrowed a page from Ronald Reagan and intend to spend the U.S. into oblivion. Our current administration has not much sense of history and might fall for the ploy windmill, solar panel and CO2.

  38. pwl Please read the site policy page under the masthead.
You are welcome to comment about anything else, but your discussion on this issue will not further clutter up the threads. You got snipped, get over it or get off the blog.
    – Anthony
[Don’t feel too bad; I’ve been snipped, too. The “climate Nuremberg” thing is a VERY sore spot, and it’s a sword that cuts BOTH ways. ~ Evan]

  39. Well, my little corner of the world seems to always rise (or in this case, lower) to the occasion and provide a bit of relativity to the “Earth is burning” Chicken Little mantra. Meacham, Oregon, one of the coldest spots in the US outside of Alaska, did it again. Record low temp last night that broke the one set in 1948. It dropped to 23 degrees, beating the previous record low of 25. Real fur is beginning to look pretty damned good to me right now.

  41. You’ve publicly asserted that I posted anonymously when it’s simply not true. I’ve been logged in all day and all my posts have been under my one tag “pwl”. You’ve mistaken someone else’s post for mine. As such I assert my right to defend myself in public. Please either post this comment, or delete your mistaken assertion and this comment, or print a retraction. I’m fine with any of those. Thanks.
I will go and read your site policy. Thanks again.
REPLY: “pwl” is in fact an anonymous handle. If you want to *not* be anonymous, use your real name. Understand this. When somebody says something using an anonymous handle (as you did) it is ME that has to answer for it when some alarmist hothead takes issue with the comment on some other blog. For example the other blog headline will read something like “Watts supports jailing scientists”. That would be a typical tactic. It would not read “pwl supports jailing scientists”. There’s no accountability to an anonymous person known only as “pwl”. They don’t care. I’m the target, I’m the one that takes the heat. So anonymous and off-policy comments made by unknown people, are less valuable and more likely to be snipped.
I’ve said this a 100 times here. If you believe in what you say, put your name to it. Take the same risk I do. – Anthony

  42. “climate change expert”: “Mr. Pachauri”.
    The deference of the MSM.
“Canada should put oil sands on hold: climate change expert
By Monique Beaudin, Canwest News ServiceSeptember 21, 2009 8:02 PM
MONTREAL — Canada should be doing much more to tackle climate change, and consider closing down the oilsands projects in northern Alberta, the head of an international scientific panel on climate change said Monday.
Canada should follow the European Union, which has pledged to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% below 1990 levels by 2020, said Rajendra Pachauri, head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
In contrast, Canada’s plan is to only cut emissions by 20% below 2006 levels by 2020, a target that many scientific and environmental observers say is far too low.
Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions climbed 26% between 1990 and 2006.
“In the last couple of years, I’m afraid, Canada has not been seen as sitting at the table,” Mr. Pachauri said in an interview in Montreal on Monday. “I think Canada should be doing much more.”
Pachauri, who accepted the 2007 Nobel Prize along with former U.S. vice-president Al Gore for their work on climate change, pointed to Germany and Japan as examples of countries that have set aggressive emissions targets and embraced renewable energy.
Mr. Pachauri made the comments before heading to New York for Tuesday’s United Nations summit on climate change.
World leaders, including Prime Minister Stephen Harper, are meeting there for talks on an international treaty to cut worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.”

    Frank Furedi | September 02, 2009
    Article from: The Australian
ONE of the most influential contemporary cultural myths is that our era is characterised by the end of deference.
Commentators interpret the declining influence of traditional authority and institutions as proof that people have become less deferential and possess more critical attitudes than in the past. However, it is less frequently noted that deference to traditional authority has given way to the reverence of expertise.
Western culture assumes that a responsible individual will defer to the opinion of an expert. Politicians frequently remind us that their policies are “evidence based”, which usually means informed by expert advice. Experts have the last word on topics of public interest and increasingly on matters to do with people’s private affairs. We are advised to seek and heed to advice of a bewildering chorus of personal experts — parenting specialists, life coaches, relationship gurus, super-nannies and sex therapists, to name a few — who apparently possess the authority to tell us how to live our lives.
The exhortation to defer to experts is underpinned by the premise that their specialist knowledge entitles them to a higher moral status to the rest of us.”

Okay, so Obama will embarrass us. That’s goes without saying. My face is already red, in anticipation. So I hope the Post takes immediate and decisive action. At least then we won’t have to be AS embarrassed if the Post succeeds in prosecuting the misfits!

    Commenting:
I don’t remember it that way.
As I recall, it was after a woman was questioned (by McCarthy – hisseff) as a “communist” and she just blurted out that she was not now nor had ever been a member of the Commies or any other associated group and we find out that there are 8 people with her name in the local phone book.
When “At long last, have you no decency, sir?” was uttered, McCarthy remembered a previous engagement and packed up with haste and left the scene.
But, you figure I remembered it wrong, huh?

  45. Re: TerryBixler (18:35:45)
You may have something there. I just heard a very serious speech from our leader of the opposition. Based on his messaging and the confidence with which he is projecting himself, I would not be surprised at all to learn later that he is in on an international power-play of grand scale. Powerful nations like to use Canada as a(n apparent) rational voice that is singing in harmony. This time it looks like powers other than USA are pulling the puppet-strings, but even that appearance might be deception. There is an ominous air of unstoppable change brewing. This might not go down well with Canadians who fear profoundly that their livelihoods will be jeopardized – or worse – by the carbon agenda, particularly since we are a spread-out, cold, northern nation.
Whichever way this goes, I don’t predict any (net) benefit for the environment.

Yeah… Canada only has a population of about 34 million, with a population density of 8 per square mile. Compare that to Europe’s near 500 million, at a density of almost 300 per sq mile… So what would that extra 5% “penance” on Canada’s part add up to?
As far as I can tell, only thing Canada has to gain from that cut is the approval of the EU authoritarianism, approval of it’s self-appointed officials that are “experts” in everything. Something’s up in Canada and I suspect that India and particularly the UK & China are involved. A very strange article. We live in very strange times. There’s no way to predict where this is going. I see the potential for a major public backlash. Interesting politics — lots of opportunity for those who can adapt-with-the-flow as events unfold.
    Paul, I agree.
    This is a strange article.
In essence it describes the “if you jump, I jump” attitude and pure spin from the Brits and Barosso but I still doubt if India and China will sign up to a Co2 reduction.
The big question how to deal with the developing nations however was not addressed an so far I know here lies a really big problem.
Expect Obama to make a new attempt to push for the Climate Bill in October.
If the US does not join in there will be no serious treaty.

  49. WestHouston, this is going off topic, but yea you are off in your memory. It’s OK, I got it wrong too. It was McCarthy’s assistant who was being mocked and asked all these questions, and to bring it to the Committee’s attention whenever he finds out about any Communists, and then McCarthy interrupted.

  50. This effort to fake the NY post must have cost someone a few coins. Wonder whom.
In my wanderings thru the net I am finding the AGW crowd is loosing numbers and becoming less lucid. Everyone wants to claim that the “experts” are in agreement that the world is coming to an end.
Now I always listen to “experts” especially if I’m paying, but then I remind myself that often, “expert” is a drip under pressure.

  52. Douglas DC (15:40:32) and evanmjones (17:41:09) raised the question of copyright. The NY Post header is probably a service mark and would not come under copyright laws. There may be a patent/trademark action. If the stories did not copy content from the NY Post, there is no copyright issue. If the typography and layout are emulated tightly, the copyright issue may lie there. If the Post did bring a claim against The Yes Men might try to claim parody. Parody is a broadly interpreted and staunchly defended form of free speech. However, I do not believe this stunt can rise to the level of parody. At its core, the stunt was ethically reprehensible.

That was the objective from the beginning. As someone most cogently put it on another site, the Global Warming hoax is nothing but population control at best, and genocide at worst. That remains true, whatever the intentions of the proponents, some of whom are, obviously, quite sincere.
I wonder if the real New York Post is aware of what has happened. I don’t know the laws which apply but, at least in Australia, there are laws against “passing off”, of which this presents a prime example.

    A very strange article.

On CNBC and CNBC World there was a bit of ‘de-spin’ on this. China is going to push for a standard of “Intensity per unit of national income”.
I would expect that to be in “per capita” terms.
So what they will do is simply hype their minor actions (they need ALL the energy they can get from ANY source, and being the major manufacturing site for anything electrical, they will have lots of solar panels made with cheap Chinese labor…). So they will put up solar panels. And don’t forget the “3 Gorges” damn that flooded huge tracts of gorgeous land… that is “renewable energy” too. So that will all be touted as they continue to build a coal plant a week (or 3…)
But the west will be asked to pay for their smog control equipment and hand over more cash to anything else they want to do. And they will simply point out that they produce less CO2 per $dollar of GDP per capita and so they get to develop more until they catch up.
Basically, the text tries to greenwash what is really happening. China is not on board with reduced coal burning. They ARE on board with free money from the west to put buy the solar panels they make and install them on homes in China. They ARE on board with the west providing cash and technology to install flue scrubbers. The ARE on board with the west providing cash payments for past “sins” until they have “caught up”.
Paul, I agree. This is a strange article. In essence it describes the “if you jump, I jump” attitude and pure spin from the Brits and Barosso but I still doubt if India and China will sign up to a Co2 reduction.
China will sign up for “You jump, then after you crash to a lower level of CO2 per capita than we have, we will consider jumping to our present level.”
    Clever folks…
If the US does not join in there will be no serious treaty.
There will be no serious treaty. China is not on board, and India is reading their stuff and planning to follow suit. Anyone who DOES sign up will crash so hard and fast that they will have a revolution.
Look at California with our state version of C&T. We’re at 12.2% unemployment and rising and we have a non-politician announcing a run for Governor with an explicit plank of “Kill C&T to create jobs.” They specifically called it “A jobs killer with companies moving out of state.”
You don’t get re-elected with 12 to 15% unemployment and rising.
So I don’t care if they do sign an agreement. It is flat out doomed by physics and economics. Two very harsh mistresses. You can’t make the “Stuff” people need to live without the carbon fuels. You can’t keep the jobs they need to buy it if you have a Cap & Tirade system in place. SPLAT! In about 2 years max (assuming they actually abide by the requirements).
I will be watching and only investing in countries that do not sign up, or that get sweetheart deals to sign up (so are guaranteed an economic win). I expect that to be China, India, Brazil, Chili, and Eastern Europe (not traditional NATO countries and probably non-EU countries.) And perhaps South Africa. They live or die based on coal via SASOL, so I can’t see them signing up for death… (Literally. Coal power runs the mine ventilation and water pumping).

Those aren’t the exact story I wanted to share, though, which I couldn’t find. The one I was looking for was about how the war in Afghanistan goes, how we are both at war… without being at war! We drop bombs on basically nothing (costing millions) whilst dropping food on everyone at the same time. Naturally, the Afghans are as confused as our wonderful and lost leadership here in the West is. But hey, so long as it wastes money, causes some harm, but doesn’t hurt whales, they figure it’s “all good”!
But the first link is telling as well. In the back of my mind I’ve always wondered if the West wasn’t building and maintaining this war on terror, given that the West is so determined to be down on itself these days.

  73. I agree that the author of the site has the right to remove comments which bring a liability to his reputation or any comments for any reason – it’s his blog. His comment policy is completely respectable, unlike some sites like certain creationist, mainstream media and other sites where all critical comments are banned.
But I disagree with encouraging people to not post under anonymous handles and pseudonyms. Even if all people who hold power over you (employers, landlords, clients etc.) You might need to look for new work or residence or or what have you one day and while the Internet is never completely anonymous you don’t need to make it easy for people to know everything about you. I don’t expect people to give my comments any authority beyond there content as I claim no academic degree. I do not approve of the message that there is something intrinsically wrong with anonymous comments or posts. It is a sure method to make certain that only people with power and financial independance are heard and that the like-minded are able to circle the wagons and keep dissenters out of positions of power. Young people without a degree in specific should be careful as to what part of their belief systems they make public. Employers use Google.

Amazingly, even though the question says ‘completely and quickly’, the current vote is 55 – 45 FOR the motion.
I used to think that Economist readers were more intelligent. From the comments you can see what the constant drumbeat of propaganda 24/7/365 for twenty years does. People believe that carbon dioxide is a “pollutant”, and that we are teetering right on the edge of catastrophe.
Apparently they have never even heard of natural climate variability.

An interesting point, Indiana Bones, but it is is one thing for to parody a song and quite another thing to emulate and pass himself off as Michael Jackson, use his name, speak on “his” behalf to the public, etc.
So I imagine that somewhere in the law, a line would be drawn on acceptible vs unacceptible use. The Constitution, after all, is not a document condoning anarchy. It details what a proper government may and may not do. Governments may not silence, but private parties are a diferrent matter, as it one’s right to private property that is being violated. Otherwise, pirating radio stations, stealing idendities, slandering, etc would be a perfectly civil practice. And that’s just not how it should be, nor do I think the Founders intended it to be that way.

Weird Al Yankovic does pay royalties to the the original publishers – I don’t know where you get the idea that he doesn’t. He also asks permission from the original artists.
Although parody is “allowed”, not only in the US but in many Western countries, generally speaking you not allowed to impersonate someone in order to deceive and especially not to defame someone in doing so.

Apparently they have never even heard of natural climate variability.”
    Hello, Smokey (cool name, btw!)
As someone with a fair amount of economic knowledge and of economic circles, I can tell you that these people aren’t dumb, at least in that simple and direct sense.
Here’s the deal… If we kill coal and oil (and more polar bears, I suppose) governments get to issue more credit to themselves and the private sector. The paper empire would be sustained for a bit longer. They’re out to secure the fake value of their investments, so naturally, they believe and even push for the death of fossil fuels.
They’re not dumb… they’re [bleeping] nuts! These credit addicts will do anything, and I do mean anything, for just one more fix. This is why various countries, like India and China, constantly change their position on how willing they are to “fight climate change”. They create confusion to tease investors into doing things… Like a game of chess, and only the masterminds really know what they (themselves) will do.
Underlying that is that China and India both are out for one thing… gold. They realize if they can trick “smart money” (read: people without a clue ready to piss themselves at the slightest drop or rise in anything) away from gold, they can continue buying at lower prices. And a rush into various bonds and financial stocks… another credit bubble, ie…Well, that creates devaluation in currencies, thus driving up the price of gold. They must be very careful about this business because if people panic (rather than remain paralyzed by fear) they don’t get as much gold as they want to get. They do not want the competition!
That said, Smoke, it is impossible to debate with these people. Money is a very emotional subject, and they’re out to promote their assets as something valuable because, naturally, they don’t want to lose. So like lambs to the slaughter, they go with the trend, which is set by the actions of government, be that climate change legislation, health care, extened unemployment, etc.

  81. It does smell very strongly of desperation when climate alarmists do things like this. They must sense that the tide of public opinion is turning very strongly against them.

  82. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that the current climate-politics dynamic presents an unprecedented opportunity. Whatever systems we put in place now (capitalizing on the valuable tension & charge that has built up), let’s just make sure they are malleable.

Click on either of the IP Explorer links. Near the upper right side of the IP Explorer page there is a highlighted line which reads “View the list of domains” which you should click on. If you are not a Domain Tools subscriber you will be shown the first four Domains at that IP Address. If you then click on an individual Domain Name you can view the detailed WhoIs information about the Domain and link to the website.
Go back to the IP Address map view and click on a nearby IP Address which is highlighted to indicate that there are websites at that that IP Address and then click on the “View the list of domains” link again to explore the websites at that IP Address.
If you look at the nearby IP Addresses to the two which I identified, you will find many websites which share the views of “The Yes Men”. You are free to makeup you your own mind about the objectives of some of the websites.
