This is from his address in Germany, recorded from German TV:
Write this date down so you can contact Mr. Gore in 5 years, then place your bets. I’m sure Lewis Pugh is making plans already.
Meanwhile at the Poznan climate talks, consensus remains in the eye of the beholder:

Anthony – has he not heard that after work from yourself and Steve McIntyre that global temps were downgraded.?
Understand the 1990’s is no longer looked on as the warmest decade…that reverts to the 1930’s with 1934 being the hottest year.
With sea ice returning the greater picture would suggest it is cooling…the sun cycle is a good clue as well. Not to mention the Aqua satellite.

Congrats!
May your blog outlive the -entire-north-polar-ice-cap.
David Ball (19:05:00) :
Correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t every doom-sayer throughout history been wrong? We are still here, aren’t we?
Sorry to disillusion you David.
We actually died out during the great global cooling of the 70s and are now the collective memory living in the supercomputers controlling the ICBMs.
On second thoughts…
Maybe we actually were annihilated in the great conflagration of the 60s.
DaveE.
Here’s a link with a little bit more of him talking (around 1 min, 30 seconds into it)
Apparently the polar cap has moved to the North American midwest, where we seem to have a high today of 8 below zero, Fahrenheit. Even in my childhood during the ice age scare, I don’t remember it being this cold in December, only in January.
So if this is your 100th post Anthony, can we put it down as just an April First early posting ?
I mean you don’t expect us to believe that photoshopped video skit above do you; or did you rip this off the Jay Leno, Tonight Show.
By five years from now, you will likely be retired, and living on a desert island (with a stick), and your man Friday will be running this blog site for you, and explaining to the new lurkers, who this guy Al Gore used to be !
George; and Congrats of your first century.
Holy cow, I just congratted you on your first century, and you already passed the millenium.
I think I’ll have another drink to that.
George
Well I just got some info on the ice-capades, from Svend Hendriksen, including the raw numbers, and he says that there is something wrong with the ice algorithm.
But Svend is actually up there in Greenland; where they have actual solid ice, so he knows his ice.
If you don’t have the raw data Anthony, mebbe I can send you what Svend just sent me.
George

OH NO!!! AGW has caused a POLE SHIFT!!!! That MUST be why siberia was warmer too!!! WE are all DOOMED!!! ( do I need a 😉
Sidebar: Anthony, I think you may have a minor troll infestation.
I’ve noticed a pattern (also notice by at least one other) of a poser trolling. I suspect that both ‘petem’ and ‘christine’ were trolls and maybe the same person. The pattern seems to be:
1) assume a thin persona (not much depth, and somewhat sterotypical. Nothing really personal shared).
2) post a AGW talking point laden slightly off topic message. Some claims clearly not supported by evidence.
3) Fein hurt at the response and express surprise at the poor treatment. Throw some insults or extreme claims about. Try to light a match… Tell folks they are dumb (in one way or another) to not believe in AGW
4) Never respond to any request for citations or evidence, just talking points or an occasional link to an AGW hard core site.
5) Make lots of ‘appeal to authority’ arguments. (Including waving degrees or teaching experience about. I suspect that most of the folks on this site have a degree or three and have taught something, and they don’t bother waving it about…) Pointers to authority figures as ‘proof’ of a position.
6) The name only shows up in one thread (so far, that I’ve seen). A different ‘fresh face’ shows up in the next thread…
7) The sporadic use of ‘do the maths’ in what ought not to be a British persona… i.e. out of place idiom – the writing style does not match the persona.
There are some other things that set off my troll alarm, but I haven’t got an objective list of them yet (still in the artistic side of my brain 😉 but they at least include a detectable similarity in prose style and diction. And unlike Sodbuster above, they never seem to have much of a sense of humor 😎
FWIW I’m going to try to refine this a bit (and I’m going to try not to feed the trolls … )
Actually, there already is a prediction that the Artic Ice Sheet will disappear by next summer. Let’s see Al Gore beat that!
“The frightening models we didn’t even dare to talk about before are now proving to be true,” Fortier told CanWest News Service…
According to these models, there will be no sea ice left in the summer in the Arctic Ocean somewhere between 2010 and 2015.
“And it’s probably going to happen even faster than that,” said Fortier…”

Hey E.M.
You may be on to something. I happen to be a person of mixed idiom, having grown up on about half Hollywood, and half J Arthur Rank, so getting it all mixed up.
And it is certainly true that what is “Math” to an American is most definitely “Maths” to a Limey or one of the colonials such as me.
But no way in hell would I ever say “do the maths”; that is idiot, not idiom ! Actually we are not in the habit of “doing” anything.
But EM, you know the way the best ant poisons work; they don’t kill right away, but allow the varmints to cart the stuff back to the nest and get em en mass.
But the thing that stands out most from those who query why we reject MMGW; weill I for one don’t reject it at all; I’m quite open minded about it.
All that I need from the ardent disciples of MMGW is some real live data showing MMGW in action, so I can become a believer also.
I think of the dearly departed Carl Sagan on his death bed surrounded by his granchildren; “what did you do with your life Grandpa?”
“Well I spent every waking minute listening for signals from intelligent life in outer space.”
“Wow Grandpa; did you ever hear anything?”
“No Johny; we never did recover so much as one binary digit of scientific information coming from intelligent life in outer space !”
What a waste; but today, Al Gore gets filthy rich and still waiting for one binary digit of scientific evidence of CO2 caused global warming; let alone from man made CO2 emanations.
“We actually died out during the great global cooling of the 70s and are now the collective memory living in the supercomputers controlling the ICBMs.”
Remember…there is no spoon.
JimB
It’s an amazing coincidence – Gore predicts total Arctic ice loss, and the very next day, there is an unbelievable ice area decrease in Anthony’s favourite graphic. Proof positive that hot air works miracles.
Congratulations on 1000 blogs. Create a 1000 more!
It’s -31C here in northwestern Ontario at 2200 hours. Bring on global warming.
LMAO SwampWoman (18:04:37)
I got a vision of Al Gore on a bicycle.. thanks for the smile:) Think the aliens would take him if we sailed him through the triangle a couple of times.. lol
Seriously mean.. he needs to worry about carbs not co2, poor guy isnt lookin healthy.
Al Gore has more nerve than a rotten tooth! But I guess when you use Fischer Price science you get Fischer Price results!! This is an obvious “shake down” scheme to get more money from us! These politicians are shameless and complete criminals. How can something, anything, cool and warm at the same time? This defies the laws of Physics and common sense. I really do not think you need to be a so called “expert” to spot this for what it is….. A load of horse%$#&.
The IPCC should be shut down too!!!!
1) Any talk of “tipping pints” is stupid. The concept was made up out of thin air. But, it is hard to prove that spirits do not exist as you cannot prove a negative. There is no tipping point in the past that has ever been identified, but they “hypothesize” tipping points out of nothing. And who’s to say therr are none? But, . . .
2) But, you can look at the facts. CO2 was up to 440 ppm back in the 1940’s and no tipping point occurred. It hit about 550 at times. No tipping point. It was also high twice back in the 1800’s and nothing happened. And, in particular, the peak COs of the 1940’s lagged the temperature peak AND the temperature dropped while CO2 as still high.
3) The IPCC decided unilaterally that CO2 was probably low and steady in the 1800’s, so they ignored ALL real direct measurements of CO2 levels (100’s of papers) which did not fit in their assumption.
They found only two papers that matched their bias. These were be two Frenchmen who used a method that always yielded low CO2 readings. The IPCC lauded them for their accuracy.
What the IPCC used for historical CO2 data was indirect data from Antarctic ice cores (everybody knows that indirect measurements are superior to direct measurements!) which showed fairly steady, low readings. Recently, the master of ice cores, Jaworoski I believe, re-evaluated ice cores and their ability to retain CO2 in the bubbles and concluded that they should be considered to read 30-50% low. Adding back 30% puts the ice core levels at about 365 ppm, not far from today. Add 50% and it is way higher (420 ppm) than we are now. Ice core data is good for seeing trends, but not absolute values.
3) The 2007 “heatwave” was not. Actually air temperatures were down a bit. What was up was the water temperatures. Between a bolus of warm water pumped north into the Arctic basin by the NAO, sea floor vulcanism and hot water vents, and wind patterns blowing sea ice south out of the area, the “melt” was high. It was a “perfect storm” and not global warming.
Now that the Arctic froze faster by 30% than the year before, things appear to be a little better, but now they are saying, whoa, the rate of freezing is slowing down. When all of the ice in an ice cube tray freezes, the rate of freezing goes to zero! The Arctic ice has frozen so fast, it has run into warmer conditions and must await further cooling of those regions.
4) Al Gore has a hedge fund with another man (Mr. Blood) called Blood and Gore. They are heavily into all things related to the “crisis” of global warming. He also owns part of a company for selling carbon offsets. He also appears to own a chunk of Current TV, which is estimated to be worth 2 billion. I have seen estimates that Al Gore has gone from less than a million about 2001 to 100-150 million in 2007. He is campaigning to make global warming a high political agenda item as it’s all gravy for him. It’s the world’s largest scam, all based on the fact that the average person does not tell the science from the junk science of climate change. He is selling snake oil and it’s a world of fools, particularly the politicians who all seem to trust a colleague. Since when are politicians trustworthy and no one checks the science?
5) La Nina had nothing to do with the recent cooling. NOAA or NASA announced last year that the PDO had flipped to its cooling phase, as it always flips from one to the other every ~35 years. To avoid this fact, they are fixated on La Nina, an admittedly small event compared to the powerful climate changing PDO cycle.
6) And then there’s the extinction loonies. Studies by REAL biologists show that, in fact, nothing has gone extinct and that diversity actually goes up, not down, when climate warms. One reason that extinctions are also hard to find is that global warming is not, so extinctions from it will definitely be hard to find.
7) Polar bears: 4 drowned in a huge storm in 2004. 11 of 13 colonies are stable or growing and the other two are over-populated and scaring away their food prey. Boom and bust cycles are normal in predator-prey relationships. By the way, those two colonies are where it has gotten coldest fastest in recent years (around Baffin Bay).
Polar bears actually do very well in warmth. They like to be on the ice where there is less competition and few toothy animals trying to eat their young, but they do well otherwise when the ice is low. As opportunistic scavengers, they do eat the dead, even in the best of times. They are not stupid.
8) Shutting down the IPCC would be a logical thing to do, but think of all of the jobs that would be lost. The logic, if that is what you could call it, is that we have so much money funded into global warming that, in this economy, it might not be good to shut it down? Why don’t we just give them the money that they would have made and send them home to do something else, maybe even something constructive.

Mum is from England… that “E” wouldn’t happen to be Edward, would it? No… to much similarity is a bad thing…
And it is certainly true that what is “Math” to an American is most definitely “Maths” to a Limey or one of the colonials such as me.
However, I still have trouble not typing ‘behaviour’ since it has the right sound, and Mod & Maude sound different to me (the caudal ‘aw’ is not heard by pureblood Americans…)
But EM, you know the way the best ant poisons work; they don’t kill right away, but allow the varmints to cart the stuff back to the nest and get em en mass.
LOL. I thought about keeping quiet for this reason (but not phased quite as well as you did 😉 but decided to get more eyes on the problem…

Hmmm another parallel. I actually started out just curious about GW. But the more I looked the more I found dodgy stuff, then icky stuff, then… WTx Stuff… I would be quite happy to accept sound science showing AGW, but all the sound science I’ve found points to “The Sun Did It”.
Charles Higley (12:44:46) :
1) Any talk of “tipping pints” is stupid.
Let me be the first to say that I think ‘tipping pints’ is very important. I try to do it at least once a week, usually a Friday night or Saturday… Any attempt to prevent me from reaching a tipping pint moment is going to be met with “fighting words”!
Or maybe I misunderstood… Yes, on second thought “TALK” of tipping pints is very stupid. You can’t talk and tip at the same time! Silly me. Pardon my prior outburst…
Well stated Mr. Higley. E.M Smith may be on to the troll thing. I was suspicious myself. I found out that Danny Bloom knows very well who Dr. Tim Ball is, which leads me to suspect that everything else that he claimed was a lie. He was only on this site to cause trouble, even though he feigned innocence and ignorance of the subject. I also found out that “Eli Rabett” is Joshua Halpern. Man these guys use some questionable tactics!! Stinks to high heaven !! On a much better note, congrats Anthony !!! Will you still remember us all when you are famous?? Oh wait, your already famous !!

The year 2008 is set to be the 10th warmest on record for the globe, with a temperature 0.31°C above average.
And Australia is on track for its 15th warmest year on record, with a temperature 0.37°C above average, according to the World Meteorological Organisation.
Senior Climatologist with the Bureau of Meteorology, Andrew Watkins, said 2008 was a La Nina year, in which the Pacific Ocean cools and temperatures tend to be lower across Australia.
“In spite of that La Nina event we still came out with the 15th warmest on record year for Australia,” he said.
Dr Watkins pointed out the preliminary global figure means 2008 was “warmer than all but two years in the previous century, so we are still seeing considerable warming here post-2000.”
Not bad going given the lack of sunspot activity.

Guilty as charged; BUT the origin has nothing to do with British Royalty; well possibly indirectly.
When I was born in the Shaky Isles, we were too poor to afford the hospital bill; so my mother’s Great Aunt from the rich side of the family paid the bill in return for naming rights. She instantly chose those two names of recent Royalty; but she was hooking me to one of HER ancestors, about three generations back from her; who was one of the elder statesmen of the British immigrant family who at one time ruled the shoe industry of the colony.

With any luck, in five years’ time the Pontiff of Global Warming will be cooling his heels in jail convicted of fraud, and the AGW industry itself in ruins, with the North Polar Ice at, or above “normal” levels.

Damn. I feel like I’m talking to a cousin… Yes, I’m an Edward too…
When I was born in the Shaky Isles,
I assume that means Australia… If you see any Sumner folk down there they are likely my relatives. Smiths and Sumners… The Sumners in this case were seamen and a great uncle went down under; (Granddad only visited when his ship docked).
mother’s Great Aunt from the rich side of the family paid the bill in return for naming rights.
The rich side of my family were the Smiths on my mothers side (mums mum) where the Edward comes from my dads side (poor Amish / Irish mix) go figure. Why, don’t ask why… but I have Smith on both sides, isolated by 300 years and an ocean from each other.

Obligatory on topic sentence: So, is it possible that we will get a record arctic ice extent this year? I’ve looked at the pictures and since we are not quite into winter yet, it looks possible to me!
