ANNUAL CARBON DIOXIDE PEAK PASSES ANOTHER MILESTONE
Monthly Keeling Curve average exceeded 430 parts per million in May
AUTHOR
Robert MonroeFor the first time, the seasonal peak of carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere exceeded 430 parts per million (ppm) at NOAA’s Mauna Loa Observatory on Hawaii, scientists from NOAA and Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego reported today.
Scripps Oceanography scientists calculated a May monthly average of 430.2 ppm for 2025, an increase of 3.5 ppm over May 2024’s measurement of 426.7 ppm. Scientists with NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory reported an average of 430.5 ppm, an increase of 3.6 ppm over last year.
“Another year, another record,” said Ralph Keeling, director of the Scripps CO2 Program. “It’s sad.”
Situated high on the slopes of the Mauna Loa volcano, the Mauna Loa Observatory is the global benchmark location for monitoring atmospheric CO2. At an elevation of 11,141 feet above sea level, the observatory produces measurements that represent the average state of the atmosphere in the northern hemisphere.

CO2 is greening the deserts.
This CO2 fertilisation effect brings immense benefits to farmers. At least part of the reason agricultural yields are skyrocketing is CO2 is making plants more drought resilient and helping them to grow faster.
In addition to this massive surge in plant growth caused by CO2 making the world a world a more fertile, productive place, CO2 could make vast tracts of almost uninhabited far Northern wilderness more productive and comfortable for human habitation, helping to feed a hungry world.
Despite literally decades of doomsday predictions, there is no evidence whatsoever that CO2 is causing problems, other than broken computer models.
Shellfish, coral and ocean life love CO2.
The reality is our world is too cold, not too hot. Our world is locked in one of the worst periods of an ice age which started 34 million years ago and still has the world in its deadly grip, the Late Cenzoic Ice Age. Any CO2 driven global warming which helps lift the world out of this terrible period in our planet’s history is a benefit to all life on Earth.
Predicted surges in sea level have failed to manifest. This prediction dates back to 1989 – you would think after 35 years of getting it wrong, scientists would stop banging on about the same failed theories.
CO2 has a proven track record of helping our closest relatives thrive. If all the failed doomsday predictions wasn’t proof enough that we have nothing to fear from more CO2, the final proof that CO2 is good for us is that our monkey ancestors thrived in a much hotter world. The Palaeocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum, 5-8C hotter than today, was the age of monkeys. Our monkey ancestors feasted on the abundance of the hothouse PETM, and colonised much of the world, only retreating when the cold returned.
So I hope you will all join me in raising a glass of your favourite beverage to celebrate this milestone in human well being and industrial progress, and drink to humanity achieving a milestone I hope to be alive to see – 500ppm of CO2 by the middle of this century.

Best wishes to her.
Very good. She will go far.
A brief summary:
Ignored good stuff happening.
Projected bad stuff not happening.
Thank goodness, because proposed ‘mitigation’ isn’t viable.
With drill, baby drill, we will do much better than a SEASONAL max of 430 ppm next year, and the year after that…
Let the greening of the earth increase, which will increase the fauna, and increase crop yields to better feed 8 billion people
Any entity opposed to this should be tarred and feathered and handed to ICE and DOJ for permanent deportation
CO2 IS AN ABSOLUTELY VITAL GAS/INGREDIENT FOR GROWING FLORA AND FAUNA; NET ZERO IS A SUICIDE PACT
https://www.windtaskforce.org/profiles/blogs/co2-is-an-absolutely-vital-gas-ingredient-for-growing-flora-and
.
The IPCC, etc., has dubbed CO2 as having magical global warming power, based on its own “science”
The IPCC, etc., claims, CO2 acts as Climate Control Knob, that eventually will cause runaway Climate Change, if we continue using fossil fuels.
CO2, just 0.042% in the atmosphere, is a weak absorber of a small fraction of the available low-energy IR photons.
CO2 has near-zero influence on world surface temperatures.
.
Governments proclaimed: Go Wind and Solar, Go ENERGIEWENDE, go Net zero by 2050, etc., and provided oodles of subsidies, and rules and regulations, and mandates, and prohibitions to make it happen.
.
Net-zero by 2050 to-reduce CO2 is a super-expensive suicide pact, to increase command/control by governments, and enable the moneyed elites to get richer, at the expense of all others, by using the foghorn of the government-subsidized/controlled Corporate Media to spread scare-mongering slogans and brainwash people.
.
Ignore CO2, because greater CO2 ppm in atmosphere is an absolutely essential ingredient for: 1) increased green flora to increase fauna all over the world, and 2) increased crop yields to better feed 8 billion people.
.
They deny the Little Ice Age, support fraudulent computer temperature projections, and are using the USAID-subsidized Corporate Media to scare-monger/control/brainwash the people, already for 35 years
.
At about 30% annual W/S electricity on the grid, various costs increase exponentially.
The weather-dependent, variable/intermittent W/S output, often too-little and often too-much, creates grid-disturbing difficulties that become increasingly more challenging and increasingly more costly/kWh to counteract, as proven by the UK and California for the past 5 years, and Germany for the past 10 years, and recently in Spain/Portugal.
.
All have “achieved” near-zero, real- growth GDPs, the highest electricity prices/kWh in the EU, and stagnant real wages for almost all people, while further enriching the jet-setting elites who live in the poshest places.
.
Their angry, over-taxed, over-regulated native populations are further burdened by the elites bringing in tens of millions of uninvited, unvetted, uneducated, inexperienced poor folks from all over; a chaotic, culture-clashing burden the native populations never voted for.
.
All that W/S subsidy money uglified the countryside, killed fisheries, tourism, viewsheds, etc.
But the climate is not any different, even though, atmosphere CO2 increased from 280 ppm in 1850 to 420 ppm in 2025, 50% in 175 years.
During that time, world surface temps increased by about 1.5 C +/- 0.25 C
But, but, but, isn’t any change automatically a Bad Thing? I mean, it is a change from the Little Ice Age, but reducing war, famine, and plague has all sorts of evil effects/s.
I too hope to witness the CO2 500PPM moment. The only downside is the extra effort needed to trim the hedges and cut the grass. It will be touch and go if I am around in the twenty years needed at the present rate of increase but here’s to hoping. 😉
NB I was having a pint in the local watering hole last night with friends and a group friend turned up aged 90 who still rides a 600CC trike. Now that is an example to follow.
I can’t keep up with the blackberry in parts of my yard as it is.
In 20 years you’ll have your robot slave maintain your property.
This CO2 fertilisation effect brings immense benefits to farmers.
_________________________________________________________________________
CO2 is way more than mere fertilization. When it comes to the basic needs for life on Earth to exist, CO2 is just as important as H2O:
CO2 + H2O + Sunshine = C6H12 + O2 [Glucose & Oxygen]
We are supposed to learn that in 6th grade general science.
Harold The Organic Chemist Says:
The formula for glucose should be: C6H12O6. C6H12 is formula for cyclohexane, methylcyclopentane dimethylcyclobutanes and trimethylcyclopropanes and various hexenes such as 1-hexene, cis- and trans-2-hexene and cis- and trans-3-hexene.,
but.. but… CO2 is pollution, they tell us! /s
It is an astonishing increase in such a short time though.
It casts doubt on the reliability of the ice core record.
Far more likely that atmospheric CO2 is naturally far more volatile than we have been led to believe.
Probably linked to the oceans and solar cycles.
It seems likely that the current increase is a result of our emergence from the Little Ice Age.
The CO2 ice core record is not reliable. Unlike oxygen and nitrogen, CO2 can migrate through ice. Older CO2 spikes like this current one show the diffusion of CO2 away from the spike. reducing the amount of the gas at that ice layer.
The concentration of CO2 in usually maxes in May. It then declines a few ppm’s during the summer as the plant growth ramps up in the northern hemisphere.
Last year in Canada there was record-breaking number of wild fires.
From the article: “The gas of life is greening the deserts, contributing to rising agricultural yields and making the far North more habitable – but you would never learn this from mainstream media.”
Here’s what you learn from the mainstream media:
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/epa-power-plant-carbon-emissions-dangerous-asked-30-122753695
EPA says power plant carbon emissions aren’t dangerous. We asked 30 scientists: Here’s what they say.
Hint: Predictably, none of the scientists agreed with the EPA. Happily, the EPA’s opinion outweighs the opinion of these Alarmist climate scientists.
Why did the EPA’s greenhouse gas endangerment finding says that the CO2 emissions from plants are dangerous and threat to human health and welfare but not the ca. 8 billion pounds of CO2 exhaled by humans and the many more billions pounds of CO2 exhaled by all of the domestic animals exhaled everyday?
Maybe if they them those used their weather mod tech to produce reasonable amounts of rain instead of torrential downpours we’d really be seeing a difference.
Let’s see the celebration in China and India.
I know, let’s burn another million trees in the UK with tax credits after cutting them down in north america with more tax credits and hauling them with fossil fuels to ports for long distance transloading. The gardens and preserved forests in the UK will at least get a small distorted benefit.
No trees are cut down in NA for manufacture of wood pellets by Drax. Pellets are made from waste and salvaged wood and from slash. Go to the Drax website to learn how wood pellets are made.
The wood pellets have a large CO2 footprint due to all the heavy machinery used in there manufacture and transport to the UK.
You almost got it right. Some trees are cut down and sent to the pellet facility- but these are the “weed trees” that are removed in good forestry to allow the better trees to grow. If it’s a clearcut, any tree that has more value for “wood products” than as mere pellets- will go to a sawmill or plywood company or even as pulp for a paper company. Only the real dregs go into pellets. As for any CO2 footprint, nobody here (very few anyway) care about that supposed problem. Before the pellet industry- good forestry companies in the American South- just bulldozed this waste material into huge piles and burned them on the spot- with a huge carbon footprint and no benefit to anyone- with no energy benefit to humans, and think of the jobs in those pellet companies and on those ships. The real problem as to why some people hate the pellet industry is that they are tree huggers who can’t bare the thought of a tree being cut, while enjoying their wood home, wood furniture and paper products.
Harold The Organic Chemist Says:
RE: CO2 In The Air
RE: The Plants Are Still Starving!
At the Mauna Loa Obs. in Hawaii, the current concentration of CO2 in dry air is 430 ppmv. One cubic meter of this air has a mass of 1.29 kg and contains a mere 0.845 g of CO2. Using photosynthesis, plants convert this trace amount of atmospheric CO2 and H2O to glucose, the starting molecule for all other plants molecules, such as cellulose, sugars, proteins, vitamins, DNA, etc. This is why plants grow slowly. In greenhouses, the concentration of CO2 is elevated to ca. 800 to 1000 ppmv during daylight to enhance food plant growth.
The increased concentration of CO2 in air results an increased concentration of CO2 in the oceans and bodies of fresh waters. This results in more plant growth ranging from algae to seaweed, which are foods for all of the animals many of which are harvested for food.
RE: The Greenhouse Effect.
In air at 70° F and 70% RH, the concentration of H20 is 17,780 ppmv. One cubic meter of this air has mass of 1.20 kg and contain 14.3 g of H2O and 0.786 g of CO2. To the first approximation and all things being equal, the proportion of the greenhouse effect (GHE) due to H2O is given by:
GHE for H20 = moles H2O/moles H2O + moles CO2 = 0.79/0.79+0.018=0.98 or 98%
This increased concentration of CO2 in air has little effect on the GHE, which is totally dominated by water. Keep in mind that 71% of the earth’s surface is covered by H20.
The claims by the IPCC that CO2 causes “global warming” and is “the control knob” for climate change are fabrications and lies. Look what these lies have done to economies of the UK, Germany, California, and Australia for example. Hopefully, President Trump will put an end to the greatest scientific fraud since the Piltdown Man.
I’m no CO2 hater but interesting that the ‘benchmark’ observatory is located in a very active volcanic area…..
There are numerous sites around the world and they compare results regularly. The volcano is an inconvenience, nothing more. I suggest you go to the “benchmark” site …
Trends in CO2 – NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory
… and spend a half hour reading about the many sites and what they do. Your comment suggests you haven’t. 🤠
I go to the GML everyday. In Canada, the fire season has started early and there are a number of wildfires in the prairies. Will CO2 from these increase its concentration in the air? There should be an update in early July.
CO2 contains oxygen. I can’t see anybody panicking about the reduction in oxygen levels, although severe reduction in oxygen will prove fatal to humans.
Adding CO2 to air does not make it hotter.
People who believe otherwise are ignorant and gullible, or brainwashed members of the GHE cult.
Not just “ignorant and gullible, or brainwashed” but also many benefit financially from the scam- such as in the ruinables industries, along with many academics and “burros” and media- who’ve hooked their wagons to the cult.
Cool!!!!! Now, what can we do to drive it even higher?!?!?!?
Take a Sunday drive in your ICE vehicle.
Driving your EV will cause CO2 to go higher as well. Just not as directly.
430 ppm! I knew it felt warmer today. Ha ha!
Why is this sad? Said Ralph Keeling.
Bill McKibben is going to have to rename 350.org.
More evidence that 40 years of government mandated CO2 mitigation has produced ABSOLUTELY NOTHING as a result.
Any data on ocean plankton?
There is a claim that human released CO2 only comprises 5% of the increase, the majority of the increase comes from the warming oceans as they outgas CO2.
If the oceans are outgassing CO2 how can the oceans become more acidic from increasing CO2?
Just an alternate viewpoint.
CO2 is not plant food or fertilizer.
CO2 is to plants what O2 is to animals, necessary for life.
