Phoebe Plummer of Just Stop Oil Sentenced to Two Years–JSO Sad

Lots of Caterwauling here

A pane of glass just got more protection than human lives. This is madness.

Judge Hehir just sent Anna and Phoebe to prison for a combined total of just under 4 years, for throwing tomato soup at at Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, protected by glass, back in 2022. Since then, the UK Government has approved over 80 new oil and gas projects – a crime against humanity. Those pushing for oil and gas remain at large, raking in cash and bankrolling politicians. Where’s the justice?

Prison for ‘conspiracy’. For standing up to the state. For fucking soup. Barely escaping the cell for marching down the road. The courts continue to throw the book at nonviolent direct action, with over 30 of our supporters jailed this year. So we will make them a site of civil resistance. But we need your help.

https://chuffed.org/project/support-resistance-in-the-courts

Of course more of them want to got to jail.

Someone miscalculated.

Despite the claims that no harm was done and it was just “throwing soup”, the action caused £10,000 in damages to the frame. The museum said the frame was a work of art in itself …

In the US, that size of damage would make it a felony.

I’m surprised the frame wasn’t also protected- especially since it was so valuable.

Joseph, do you surround your own possessions that you consider valuable with armed guards and barbed wire in case some idiot with an agenda wishes to protest by damaging it?

Destruction of other people’s property for a ‘just cause’ is unacceptable, whatever its value.

If they bothered to put glass over the painting- it wouldn’t have been a big deal to cover the frame also, if it’s worth £10,000. Not relevant to me as I don’t have anything valuable. I certainly don’t disagree with what you say about destruction of other’s property. I didn’t imply that I think it’s OK. I’m an art lover so I’m particularly concerned- more than if they dumped paint on some rich guy’s fancy sport’s car.

It’s odd that they were able to enter the museum wearing propaganda tee shirts and carrying cans of soup, isn’t it? And then couldn’t actually damage the art.

The jaded might think that it was an inside job, ‘performance art’ orchestrated by the wokester curators.

As I posted on X, in is response to a fair/harsh question:

“Fair, too harsh, or not harsh enough?”

Just what did those two learn from such a judgement?
Nada!
Sentence them to live without their oil/nat gas boosted lives for five years. After all, that is the life they want and crave.

So, give it to them.
No computers,
No TV,
No smartphones or phones of any sort,
No machine made clothes,
No machine made fabrics,
No heat, no A/C,
No food cooked on nat gas or electric stovetops,
No machine made, commercially glued shoes,
No fueled/electric vehicular rides of any sort,
No occupation dependent upon oil or natural gas usage,
Lots of foot powered outdoor employment.

Every time they fall off the no oil/nat gas order, fine them a $1,000 for each and every failure.”

They also comment :
Those pushing for oil and gas remain at large, raking in cash and bankrolling politicians. Where’s the justice?”

The Justice is that people involved in those activities work hard for their salaries. Primarily, they are not pampered children believing themselves more important than an extremely unique valuable painting by a long dead paint master genius.

You, Anna and Phoebe, appear to be near useless consumers that offer nothing of value to humanity versus an irreplaceable painting treasured by millions.

You, Anna and Phoebe, really need to learn the value of life and the industrial supports to that life. That is justice.

What they are doing is just criminal damage to someone else’s property. It has no connexion to climate or energy policy. It has no logical connexion to them, it can have no effect on them. Its no different from randomly smashing windows on a street, damaging cars, breaking into and trashing houses or offices in the effort to persuade everyone to stop drinking wine. Obviously they should receive the normal penalties for criminal damage.

The movement itself is a classic millenarial cult phenomenon. No different from Jim Jones or the Branch Dravidians or Heavens Gate. Listen to some of the hysterical pronouncements by members of JSO and ER. These cults are much more common in modern times in the West than people realize. For instance, the Jehovah’s Witnesses predicted the end of the world in 1914, 1925 and 1975. Other vaguely Christian inspired cults also predict a near term end of the world, without specifying dates.

Everyone interested in the future of the climate movement should read ‘When Prophecy Fails’, by Festinger and associates. It explains why the beliefs of members of such cults are almost immune to contrary evidence. In fact, contrary evidence often strengthens belief. Seems paradoxical, but it is so.

We can be fairly confident that when the attempt to move the UK to wind and solar generation results in nationwide blackouts Ed Miliband will be out there explaining to the faithful that this is only because of our lack of faith or wrong implementation. And the faithful will believe him, and the level of fanaticism will rise.

Plummer attended the £45K per annum St Mary’s in Ascot where she hails from. You know the school, right? The same one whose alumni include the Duke of Kent’s grandchildren and the Princess of Monaco.

Since then, Ms Plummer – who was recently registered in court as living in a large house in Clapham, south London, on a street where houses cost upwards of £4 million – has only upped the ante, having been arrested several more times for breaching bail conditions. She has further embraced her rock star image, posing last summer as Mona Lisa for an arty feature in fashion magazine Dazed. With “STOP OIL” emblazoned across her chest and holding a can of Heinz tomato soup, she wore a silk and cotton sweater by the exclusive Italian brand Loro Piana, whose jumpers can cost upwards of £1,000.

In a recent interview, however, she addressed her privilege and the criticism JSO has received, including accusations that its ranks are filled by “posh” members who disrupt the lives of those less well-off with their abrasive tactics. “I don’t have to work three jobs to feed my kids or pay heating bills,” Ms Plummer told The Times, “which means I can dedicate time towards fighting for the people that don’t have the means to fight right now and are being hit hardest”.

Hardly poor is she?

She’s just another spoilt, clueless brat.

Reply to  MyUsername

Trump is not in the UK. All over the world there are people, many of them in power, many of them simple criminals, who are escaping justice. That fact is completely irrelevant to the present case.

The criminal in this case is in the UK and is being dealt with under UK law, like anyone else. She is in no way being singled out or treated differently from anyone else who breaks the law in the UK.

I am guessing that you feel some sympathy for her because you perhaps share part of the negative feelings XR and JSO have for oil, gas, coal etc.

But the question you have to consider is this. Do you think people should be able to commit criminal damage with impunity if their avowed aim is to stop some behavior they do not approve of? Even when, as in this case, their damage has no conceivable bearing on what they disapprove of?

Like, is it OK for me to start spraying airport luggage at Heathrow with black paint, because I do not like Sunday opening hours in the UK? I want them shorter. Others who want them longer, can they do the same thing to make them longer? Is it OK for me to slash a few tires because I want to see only Halal or Kosher meats being sold in supermarkets? If I wish women’s athletics to be conducted in very modest clothing, does that mean its OK for me to block the entrance to the National Opera performing the Magic Flute?

What if I want to see the coal fired generating stations re-opened in the UK? Does that make it all right for me to block the M25? Or, is it all right for me to block the M25 if I want to see the gas generating stations closed?

Of course not.

Get real!

The miscreants that toppled Edward Colston’s statue were let off scot free. The jail time now being meted out to the plankton is a direct result of the challenge to the state presented by the Southport riot and what followed. Accusations of two tier justice have hit home. The statue honoured Colston for his charitable works, he made some of his wealth from holdings in the slave trade, which was perfectly legal at the time. Some individuals felt that they were sufficiently offended by this to destroy someone else’s property. This level of self importance is not uncommon; ISIS blew up the ancient Temple of Baal in Syria because they equated Baal with Beelzebub. The Taliban blew up the ancient great statues of Buddha in Afghanistan because they represented a heretical religion. I’m sure they were all just as offended. Perhaps I should make more effort to be offended by something? How about the tomb of Karl Marx in Highgate Cemetery, a monument to a man, the pusuit of whose ideas have led to the deaths of literally millions of people? I find him pretty offensive, but I do not feel justified in taking any action.

That’s an idiotic statement, independent of the misspelling.

How about the fact that throwing soup (not flavored water) onto a painting and its frame in a public museum—the painting in question being a Van Gogh titled “Sunflowers” at the National Gallery of London—is a crime (aka, an illegal act) under British law provisions governing destroying public property (the Criminal Damage Act of 1971) and disturbing the peace (“breach of the peace”, descended from the Justices of the Peace Act 1361).

You see, facts matter. And actions have consequences . . . the famous phrase here across the pond being “Ignorance of the law is no excuse!”

Spoilt, entitled, upper middle class, narcissistic brats with absolutely no grasp of climate science, societal impacts of energy choices or economics. Richly deserving of a few years in jail and a close up of the harsh reality of life in the lower (working) classes.

It is heartening to see these mongrels get jail time, it’s a move forward.

2 years this time, 20 years the second offence with a warning of 200 years for a third. If she has any intelligence there won’t be a third. If there is a third there certainly won’t be a fourth.

Please put this idiot in a mainstream women’s prison, with the normal trans prisoners. Reality is a harsh teacher when it hits! Life for many of those women was really hard before committing the offences that got them there. I doubt there would be much sympathy for the Phoebe’s of this world.
