Jim Dale likened climate denial to flat earth conspiracy theories

  • Andrew Doyle and Jim Dale clashed over whether climate denial should be criminalised
  • JOIN THE DEBATE – Should climate denial be illegal? COMMENT NOW

Andrew Doyle became embroiled in a feisty free speech row with environmentalist Jim Dale as the latter demanded climate denial is criminalised.

Speaking on GB News, Dale likened climate denial to flat earth conspiracy theories, arguing they are too dangerous for public discourse.

Andrew took a differing perspective on the matter, asking what Dale expects to achieve by silencing climate change sceptics.

“Denial is factually wrong and it pollutes the political discourse.

“It puts certain politicians in certain spins. They don’t necessarily know about the climatology or the meteorology that’s involved.

“Therefore, they go off on a tangent or sit on a fence like Rishi Sunak, and we end up going nowhere fast when we have to act.”

I watched the video of the interview. According to environmentalist Jim Dale, climate skeptics would still be allowed to talk to family and friends, “nobody would kick in the door”, but would face criminal sanctions if they “pollute” people by voicing their opinion in public.

Jim Dale refused to specify exactly what sanctions should be applied to deniers – he said that should be up to politicians like Labour Party leader Keir Starmer.

Asked for an example of how climate denial could be suppressed with criminal sanctions, Jim Dale suggested it would be like how racism has been driven from public discourse. Britain has harsh anti-hate speech laws.

Andrew Doyle tried to get Jim Dale to admit there might be a few issues with banning disagreement, he cited the example of how the Covid Lab leak theory was vigorously suppressed. For a long time Facebook and Google deleted accounts and silenced public posts which speculated that Covid was an escaped lab virus. Then Fauci made continued censorship untenable, by publicly admitting a lab leak was a possibility. Facebook hilariously tried to justify their censorship of lab leak theories by explaining why it is up to people like Fauci to decide what public opinions are acceptable.

However environmentalist Jim Dale refused to concede the possibility that people who claim we are currently experiencing a climate crisis might be wrong.

The reality of climate change is that the Earth is currently experiencing a very cold period by geological standards.

We are currently living in the Quaternary ice age, a severe cold period which started two and a half million years ago, and continues to the present day.

The Quaternary is one of only five great glaciation periods which have been detected in the geological record – the others are the Huronian (2.2 billion years ago), Cryogenian (720-635 million years ago), Andean-Saharan (460-420 million years ago), late Paleozoic (360-255 million years ago), and the Quaternary Ice Age, our current period of extreme cold.

Think about that – during more than 2 billion years of geological history, only 5 great cold periods have been identified, and we are currently living in one of those periods. The last time the Earth was this cold for a sustained period was 255 million years ago.

Given the geological evidence is that we are living in a significant period of extreme cold, how can today’s temperatures possibly qualify as a global warming emergency?

Yet an opinion such as I just provided, a simple statement of fact, would likely be illegal under Jim Dale’s climate denial rules. Under Dale’s proposed rules, myself or anyone who retweets this article could go to jail or lose their house, merely for suggesting that people living in the middle of an ice age should be more concerned about glaciers than beach weather.

we have to act

My earliest management diploma course taught that the first option to be considered when faced with dealing with a perceived problem situation should always be –

DO NOTHING.

I wonder how many of you, here, remember the Popeye episodes. If so, can you remember those scary men, who had big droopy noses, and wore animal fur shorts?

Well, they were Jim Dale’s ancestors.

Calling Dale an environmentalist is equivalent to calling Vlad the Impaler a philanthropist.

He’s just voicing what most environuts think. They’re well aware that the “deniers” have all the evidence on their side, and the only way to beat them is to silence them.

The real problem was the decision by alarmists 15 years ago to refuse to debate. Who knows perhaps they would have learned how to win debates. The Royal Society motto used the be “nullius en verba” meaning on the word of no one. Now it’s STFU whose meaning is pretty clear to most people here.

Priests of religious cults never debate the validity of their superstitions. They will always resort to the coercive power of the state to silence their opponents.

There is no shortage of lunatics in the world. But the current crop of left wing loonies is truly dangerous. They propose jailing or even doing physical harm to those who disagree with them. They would quickly turn our beautiful free country into a totalitarian dictatorship of the worst imaginable sort. The Democrats are using such tactics against President Trump. They think it’s OK to deprive Trump of his rights because they hate him. But what they don’t realize is that Trump is a US citizen and the same constitution that protects his rights also protects their rights. So whatever the rulers can do to Trump they can do to anyone.

“The reality of climate change is that the Earth is currently experiencing a very cold period by geological standards.
We are currently living in the Quaternary ice age, a severe cold period which started two and a half million years ago, and continues to the present day.”

THIS!

We absolutely need to spread the scientific fact that the Earth is in an Ice Age and is colder than it has been in the past.

Emphasize that science defines the current period as an Ice Age.

Just because everyone alive today has only experienced life in an Ice Age does not mean that the Earth is getting materially warmer. It’s still cold. And the whole 1.5C warming vs preindustrial temperatures is a made up number by an economist (William Nordhaus). The number is pure garbage derived from a flawed model, like all climate fear porn.

Quite so. And it is worth noting that the biosphere was greater in every geologic epoch prior to the current Holocene since the commencement of the Mesozoic. By comparison with previous eras, the current Holocene is a frozen wasteland with the biosphere stripped down to remnants of what it was. At least some of this is attributable to far too little CO2 in atmosphere.

Let’s put this in perspective. Jim Dale is advocating for a position which could be viewed as hyping a threat where there is no threat. Specifically all the “all weather disasters are getting worse” when even the latest IPCC doesn’t support that claim. The physiological damage from this rhetoric is not small.
To me that is akin to yell “fire” in a crowded theater. Now of the two; expressing an opinion on a topic even if you are wrong(I am not suggesting a skeptical position is wrong), or yelling “fire” in a theater when there is no fire, which is currently a punishable offense? I think Mr. Dale is living in a glass house and had best be careful about all the stones he is lobbing.

Jim Dale should be exposed as a fraud, for that is what he is. He is the equivalent of the flat earther of days gone by. Along with the rest of the climate cultists(environmentalists). And a hypocrite. I’m sure that he has a vehicle, probably ICE powered, and uses products made via the use of fossil fuels everyday. These are the types of folks who need to be pointed out and shamed into seclusion.

This is just another example of the desperation of the climate alarmists who know they’re losing the battle in trying to convince the public that there’s some sort of climate crisis going on, so they should adopt all sorts of green lifestyles and embrace overpriced green products to combat it. Except people stopped listening to them long ago and when they do, they respond with a hearty horse laugh.

“Jim Dale refused to specify exactly what sanctions should be applied to deniers – he said that should be up to politicians like Labour Party leader Keir Starmer.”

When Labour assumes control of the UK government in 2025, will Keir Starmer take a cue from his counterpart across the pond and jail his political opponents if they dare to question his position on climate change?

The criminal I see is Jim Dale, he is claiming things he can not prove. Not only that but insisting that people who don’t agree with him be charged as criminals. It is time to go after people like Jim. He should be made to prove his point in public before a council of our choosing. He can bring all the help he wants. If he won’t agree to a public defense of his views then he is the one who needs to shut up.

>> Dale likened climate denial to flat earth conspiracy theories, arguing they are too dangerous for public discourse.

Oh absolutely!
Flat Earth was a long term problem for the climate models, now they assume a spherical Earth, which is in reality oblate and it matters.
Those deniers wasting Trillions of dollars, negating that the attribution from models currently is fundamentally flawed
https://judithcurry.com/2021/08/18/the-ipccs-attribution-methodology-is-fundamentally-flawed/
and prominent mathematicians testify in court against the validity of climate reconstructions
https://asiatimes.com/2024/02/climate-libel-circus-slapps-down-1st-amendment-in-dc/
and of course our host here A Watts showed that measured temperature trends depends on the quality of the station, similar things can be said about the corrections of the satellite based “products”
(https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2022JD037472 “. The merged time series produced a global mean TMT trend of 0.092 ± 0.043 K/decade during 1979–2021”)

Basically any alarmist statement about ocean currents or natural disasters is an oversimplification of the real fact denying other relevant factors and uncertainties, often with full knowledge of them. .clearly an unethical and if the public wants it, also a criminal behavior! I am in favor!

May 14, 2024 4:41 pm

Nice pot-plant he is holding ! 😉

May 14, 2024 4:48 pm

Jim Dale refuses to accept that he might not be 100% correct. Andrew’s points about Galileo and the Great Barrington Declaration was well taken, but Dale would not seriously consider these.

Dale kept on bringing up individual temperature readings like the one in Mexico without considering that a single abnormally high reading is likely to be caused by a problem with the station. I saw this several years ago when the MSM was raising climate chvent.ange as the cause of a single 50 C reading in Northern California. If any reporter had looked at other nearby (within 10 miles) temperature stations, they would have seen temperatures of 30 – 35 C. Clearly, the 50 C reading was a temperature reading taken very close to an AC or something similar.

I think that Jim Dale’s idea is brilliant, and should be implemented, but not immediately. One little variation is needed: wait until the “climate change”scam is finally abandoned. Jim Dale and all his ilk then go to jail for the same length of time that the scam existed. OK, that’s a huge cost for taxpayers, but most taxpayers do support worthwhile expenditure of their money.

Jail the Jim Dales of this world who do not live by the rules they want to impose upon others. Preferably somewhere like Svalbard where they can go looking for terrible effects like global warming. And give the polar bears a treat.
