British PM Announces Net Zero Retreat as King Charles Visits France

Essay by Eric Worrall

Did Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wait until King Charles was safely on his way to France, before announcing a Net Zero retreat?

Rishi Sunak delays petrol car ban in major shift on green policies

By Sam Francis
Political reporter, BBC News

In a speech from Downing Street on Wednesday, Mr Sunak said moving too fast on green policies “risks losing the consent of the British people”.

Among the key changes announced were:

  • A five-year delay in the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars, meaning a requirement for all new cars to be “zero emission” will not come into force until 2035
  • A nine-year delay in the ban on new fossil fuel heating for off-gas-grid homes to 2035
  • Raising the Boiler Upgrade Grant by 50% to £7,500 to help households who want to replace their gas boilers
  • The ban on the sale of new gas boilers in 2035 remains, but the government will introduce new exemption for poorer households
  • Scrapping the requirement on landlords to ensure all rental properties had a Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of grade C or higher, from 2025.

Meanwhile, King Charles addressed the French Parliament on the need for greater climate ambition;

King Charles uses historic address to French parliament to label global warming an ‘existential challenge’ and call for a ‘sustainability agreement’ with France – hours after Rishi U-turned on green targets

King Charles made history today by becoming the first British monarch to address the French Senate – and used his speech to declare global warming as ‘our most existential challenge’ – just hours after Rishi Sunak put the brakes on Net Zero.

The monarch spoke of the close friendship between the UK and France but focused on tackling climate change, calling for a new ‘entente cordiale’ specifically to ‘tackle the global climate and biodiversity emergency’.

Speaking in perfect French, Charles suggested France and Britain needed the same unity shown in the World Wars and now Ukraine to ‘stand together’ on the environment, shortly after the PM warned that imposing ‘unacceptable costs’ and ‘heavy-handed’ proposals on families risked wrecking support for saving the planet.

Waiting until the king is out of the country, before staging a revolution – there is plenty of precedent for that.

Not that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s timid retreat could really be described as a revolution – more likely a desperate attempt to bring false hope to furious voters, many of whom are counting the minutes until they can throw his incompetent administration out of office.

Of course, the mandates for increasing percentage of vehicle sales (with £15000 fine for each EV car sold less than the mandate – obviously to be passed on to the customer) remain in place [22% in 2024 rising to 80% in 2029 – and I guess now also in 2030 to 2034]. No change, then, in the position until 2030 when 20% of ICE cars will be allowed to be sold.

Since manufacturers will have to cover the fines – which will be extensive given resistance to purchase of EVs – ICE vehicles will become prohibitively expensive to most. Politicians will the say it is nothing to do with them, it is just greedy manufacturers!

Boris Johnson messed up by joining in on climate alarmism.

It may sadly be necessary for the Conservatives to fall and Labor to rise to power and proceed to implement NetZero policies.

Then, when the inevitable destruction of the UK follows, with most of the world going merrily along spewing carbon while enjoying prosperity, the Conservatives can arise and run on climate sanity as a platform.

Sometimes, it seems reality must deliver a 2 by 4 to the head to knock sense into an electorate.

I thought France has long been taking climate action by generating most of its electricity with nuclear energy. I guess Charles figures the country doesn’t have enough EVs on the road to make up for Britain’s shortfall.

We are seeing movement, that’s a good thing. King Charles is pathetic.

A guy called Cromwell many years ago fixed this problem.
Do we need to get him back ?

It’s long past time to demand the STOP OIL, nut zero and the other climate catastrophists to follow their convictions. If they want a world without oil and net zero carbon they must ‘de-carbonize” themselves, as an example to the rest of us. Ask them if they drive and ice vehicle or ride in ones. If so, why haven’t they stopped doing that. Do they own a smart phone? Plenty of fossil fuel went into that. Stop using it. Do they own any plastics? Out with them. No plastic if you want to STOP OIL.  Do you own anything from China? The biggest CO2 producer on the planet. Get rid of it. We also need to label them correctly. They are bullies. They want to force everyone else to do what they won’t do. We need people to attend all these climate meetings and confront them with their hypocrisy.

Don’t fall for it. 😄 It’s no climb down at all. 🤣

Crafted to look like a rowing back on Net-Zero, while only cancelling a few nonsenses, most of which hadn’t been announced yet anyway, like the seven bins fallacy. 🙄

Having the Green mob react to it as they do just keeps the media occupied and fools a few more into thinking he has done something significant, which he hasn’t.

Net Zero nonsense remains locked in, to the overall committment and timetable being followed by other adherents like the EU.

Not sure why the slagging is Sunak, finally the beginning of a little common sense, compared to your Labour loons.

All beginnings are good
