One of the most common accusations against climate change skeptics is that they are in the pocket of “big oil” and other corporations. These claims are often made without evidence and are used as a smear tactic to imply that climate skeptics receive dirty money.
In reality, climate skeptics receive a negligible amount of funding compared to the vast amount of money invested in climate research and political causes. The argument is pointed at the wrong side.

The idea that all climate sceptics are funded by Big Oil is a ludicrous conspiracy theory peddled by climate alarmists which is designed to deflect attention from their own funding.
I was funded by medium oil for many years. It was called a job. Nobody leant on me to jump on any bandwagon and up until Climategate exposed the idiocy, dishonesty and incompetence of the AGW pseudo – scientists I was in the lukewarm camp but with the proviso it may be warming and humans may or may not be responsible but I kinda like the idea of warm but if we want to retain our western democracies then we had better build some nuclear power stations. I did not realise until I did some very simple calculations how silly renewables really are. If big oil were to write me a big check -bigger than my paltry pension I would quite happily push the skeptic view but no amount of cash would make me spout warmunust guff.

Of course, I’m still waiting for the cheque, but other than that, I’m calling BS on all sceptics not being funded by BIG OIL!.
I, too, have had a long financial history with Big Oil, ever since I got my first car in 1969.
I have never been funded by big oil, or big coal. I was under some pressure from big gas earlier, but that turned out to be the bean casserole I had for lunch.
My mother left me a wedge of Shell Oil shares. They pay for my heating oil and diesel costs.
When you know that you can’t support your claims, the first tactic of the scoundrel is to attack his opponents directly.
