Look up the connection between fuller and tenterhook. It is tenuous but real.
I hate having to explain jokes, no matter how poor. Why can’t people assume a joke is valid and investigate a little before correcting something so obviously intentional?
Felix complains because he thinks he has to ‘explain’ his joke — he not realizing that Martin C actually made a counter-joke. Martin C’s counter-joke is actually funnier than Felix’s — precisely because “Buehler” (not a misspelling) is a homophone of (Ferris) “Bueller”.
I would suggest that Felix take his own advice and, “. . . assume [Martin C’s] joke is valid and investigate a little before correcting something so obviously intentional”.
Apparently, Martin C and I are the only ones with a breadth-of-knowledge sufficient to understand both jokes.
Thom’s comment was completely uncalled for. We shouldn’t be derogatorially calling people ‘hopeless’. I would suggest that some folks investigate the connection of ‘Felix’, ‘Thom’, and ‘fluffer’.
In the ‘superiorly dismissive’ tone that Felix used,
I would suggest that you all investigate the connection of “Buehler” with tenterhooks (NOT Ferris ‘Bueller’).
To use one of my favorite movie quotes, “Jeesh, it’s like I’m playing cards with my brother’s kids!”
As a student who spent quite a bit of time thinking about this essay over the summer and then crafting a nice essay on time, I am disappointed that a winner is still unannounced.
A mystery! Alriiiiight!
We’ll just have to wait. Anybody got some spare tenterhooks?
Anyone? Anyone? Fuller?
. . . um . ..it’s ‘Buehler’ ( . .i hope i have the spelling right . . ): ” . .anyone, . .anyone, . .? Buehler . . . Buehler . .?

Martin C couldn’t even bother to check the spelling of Bueller. Hopeless.
I’ve had to explain at times why what I said was funny.
Often people laugh more at my explanation than they did at the joke. 😎
