Climate Crisis? Ever Fewer People Dying of Climate Disasters. There’s Hype, And There’s Reality

From the NoTricksZone

By P Gosselin

In yesterday’s post, I mentioned how the climate crazies and media are falling all over themselves, trying to get people to think we’re in crisis and that the only way out is to declare a permanent state of emergency, rationing and lockdowns .

But of course our weather and climate situation is not something we haven’t experienced before. It’s what weather does: behave abnormally. Today we present some charts to show that we are not in a “climate crisis”. Hat-tip: Marcell Oberfeld.

Deaths are way low

First we look at deaths from climate-related disasters.

Figure 1: Climate related disasters. Technology and fossil fuels have payed a major role in this development.

The real crisis was 100 years ago.

Climate costs

Next we look at the cost of societal problems compared to climate costs:

Figure 2. Source: Björn Lomborg

Climate change is comparatively a small problem, and so it’s no wonder many people view climate change as something they don’t worry about. Very much on people’s minds nowadays is the totally fouled up economy that the climate alarmists are in large part responsible for.

Record low flood deaths

Professor Lomborg also analyzed the number of people killed by floods in Europe, Figure 3:

Figure 3. Source: Björn Lomborg

Once again we have technology and fossil fuels to thank for that successful development. But for alarmists, it’s always the fire fighters who are responsible for the fires.

Cold kills far more

When they’re are heat waves, the climate crazies always seize on the few dozen deaths that occur. But when there are cold waves, they keep silent. And as professor Lomborg shows again, in a chart appearing in Lancet, cold today still kills far more people than heat does:

Figure 4: Cold kills nine times more people than heat. Source: Björn Lomborg

Central Europe trending wetter

Europe is suffering ever more from drought, the alarmists claim, and soon there will be a planetary emergency. Yet, when we look at the rainfall for Germany going back 140 years, wee see that the long-term trend is the opposite: wetter.

Figure 5: Annual rainfall anomaly (in percent). Source: DWD German National Weather Service

The last decade in Germany has been dry, and this is due to natural cycles. But over the long-term, we see it has gotten wetter since industrialization began.

There are many other metrics showing there’s no crisis we need to worry about. What we indeed need to worry about are the alarmists declaring a permanent state of emergency and taking rights, truths and freedoms away. If that happens, then the planet will surely go to hell in a handbasket really quickly.

“trying to get people to think we’re in crisis “

In the spirit of Orwell: Prosperity is Crisis

“This week of all weeks, one might expect the climate alarmists to be very happy. It’s all going according to plan. Europe is sizzling under a heat dome, the UK has seen new record high temperatures, the mainstream media (with the BBC and the Guardian cheerleading the way, as ever) has done little other than bang on about heat and climate change for days now. So what’s the problem?

1976, it seems, is the problem. The long, hot, dry summer, the drought, the standpipes in the streets, the empty reservoirs, Dennis Howell appointed as Minister of Drought, pesky old-timers who actually remember it and never stop banging on about it – it all irks, it annoys, it gets in the way of the message.”

https://cliscep.com/2022/07/21/1976-and-all-that/

And it was a lot longer than two days.

Just give them two weeks to flatten the global warming curve.

““This week of all weeks, one might expect the climate alarmists to be very happy.”

Yesterday I was watching some of the US. national news channels reporting the high temperatures in the United States and Europe, and all the people reporting had great big smiles on their faces as though they were very pleased with something.

I think the high temperatures cause them to feel vindication for their climate alarmism. They are pleased to have their narrative confirmed. Or so they think. It doesn’t matter that the temperatures are only temporary, as long as they are extreme.

Thanks for this.

All these facts are readily available to anyone who is interested enough to inform themselves.

And have been for some time.

So the quandary is – why don’t academics, journalists, politicians and bureaucrats avail themselves of such information?

Could there be a particular Agenda in play for them that is antithetical to such facts?

Drs Curry and Ridd etc may be able to help with that.

Journalists as now hacktivists – purveyors of a narrative.

And the fact they’re open about their collusion in support of the narrative should scare the bejesus out of freedom loving people. I cringe every time I hear or read about media outlets openly saying they won’t report on contrary facts.

Joe Biden and the Democrats, facing awful poll numbers and crushing defeats in November, are desperately using the “climate emergency” to rally people behind them. It has nothing to do with science but everything to do with politics. Don’t give an inch. Too much is at stake.

Given Bozo Joe’s low polling #s, is it possible he’s baiting people to protest his latest possible
proposals so Antifa, BLM, & other lib groups can create a violent enough situation that would allow
him to militarily lock down the US & cancel elections under the pretext of martial law necessary to
suppress both violence & insurrection (If that doesn’t do it, he could add Covid to the mix)? Beside
the GW climate emergency David Middleton wrote about yesterday- Executive Beast Mode-
Brandon’s considering putting an ESG tax on retirement plans, too. The only thing slowing him
down now is that he has Covid, something he claimed was impossible as he’s been jabbed 3x.

Three generations ago H.L. Mencken observed, “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”

And so it is with weather, or climate, or climate “change” (the word in quotes being redundant, of course.) Throughout history people have been “clamorous” to trade tangible liberties for imaginary security, usually with disastrous results. Security provided by steel reinforced concrete and diesel-powered equipment is one thing. False security provided by bloviating humbugs is quite another.

So what if fewer people are dying in natural disasters? Data abundantly shows this, with the sharpest declines in the most recent half century while population has been rising fast.

People still MIGHT die — so let’s menace their liberties, scare ’em half to death, and keep the hobgoblin parade going! Why bother with measurable results? Statistics are boring.

As the solar wind strength increases, the stratospheric polar vortex in the south and the circulation along the equator should strengthen.
However, the current solar cycle is characterized by weak geomagnetic activity. Solar wind speed jumps are short and weak. Therefore, La Niña may not end. It is too weak for the subsurface wave to warm the cold Humboldt Current.

Climate change is comparatively a small problem
_______________________________________

Compared to the world 200 years ago with only 280 parts per million of CO2 in the air, the benefits of warmer weather, more rain, hardiness zones moving poleward and the greening of the Earth due to increased CO2, “Climate Change” is NOT a problem.

So this statement in CBC comments policy is patently bullshit –

We want your perspective. Probe, analyze, inform. Challenge, advocate, debate. Inspire, entertain, enjoy. Your contributions make our programming richer, the conversations more lively and diverse.

From what I can read of their comments policy statement, this is the only basis they could use to de-activate your comment –

Content or reasoning based on demonstrably false statements and/or inauthentic content or activity

The only part of your comment they could take issue with is where you stated that “global temperature has not been upward since 2016. Check RSS or UAH.”

Please post these references here so we can all see what Canadian state censorship looks like – no different to that of North Korea, Communist China and Russia.

“First we look at deaths from climate-related disasters.”

This should really be adjusted for population to give the rate and show just how disparate the impacts were — losing 500K in the 1920s is comparable to losing a staggering 1.75M in 2021 as opposed to around 1% of that

image telling people in the 1920s that global climate death rates would fall by 99% by 2021 — two orders of magnitude!

no one would even believe you

Thanks for more good information to debunk the Climate Emergency Hysteria. When discussing GW
with the average person, regardless of their position, it’s best to discuss areas where there isn’t
any disagreement on facts but Greens never discuss as it would undermine their positions. These
include both the benefits/dangers of more/less CO2 & (1000ppm = 2x growth @ 350ppm; 170 ppm
15kya- barely > 150 ppm needed for C3 plants => 0 food & O2) & warming (MWP & today vs LIA;
9x more deaths, Fig 4 Cold vs Heat Deaths). Then I ask them if any Greens ever told them these
facts since BOTH sides agree upon them & why they withheld such important facts? Is it because
what they’re telling you is propaganda & these facts undermine reducing warming & the CO2 they
blame for that? The key is to plant seeds to give reasons to doubt the integrity of the sources
they rely on for their facts. While True Believers™ probably will still disagree, they probably
won’t discuss it with you again as your argument has an edge they can’t overcome. The person you
may affect most is a third party who’s actually looking for facts & not just a chance to argue.

If I know they’re fairly green, I may open with the fact I think bad drinking water is obviously a real
problem that hurts a lot of people to let them know I’m not totally anti-green/heartless, especially if
the facts support what is being promoted (fact- 2/3 of the world’s people have parasites, mostly from bad drinking water).
