EPA promotes U.S. heatwave increase since 1960s while downplaying HUGE DECREASE in U.S. heatwaves since 1930s

Start your climate analysis in 1961 and you get to show a big increase in heat waves. This type of tactic is very supportive of the man-made climate narrative. But the EPA also reveals that If you go back further in the “heatwave” record, their entire man-made climate change analysis falls apart.

From EPA website: “This figure shows changes in the number of heat waves per year (frequency); the average length of heat waves in days (duration); the number of days between the first and last heat wave of the year (season length); and how hot the heat waves were, compared with the local temperature threshold for defining a heat wave (intensity). These data were analyzed from 1961 to 2019 for 50 large metropolitan areas. The graphs show averages across all 50 metropolitan areas by decade.”

EPA also seems to bury this chart available on another page that is linked.

EPA website: “This figure shows the annual values of the U.S. Heat Wave Index from 1895 to 2020. These data cover the contiguous 48 states. An index value of 0.2 (for example) could mean that 20 percent of the country experienced one heat wave, 10 percent of the country experienced two heat waves, or some other combination of frequency and area resulted in this value.”

Wow! Please take a look at the incredible EPA propaganda here:https://t.co/OOvR0OlZbX

They desperately hope you’ll accept cherrypicked cool 1960s as a starting point, only admitting in the last of 6 “key points” that 1930s heatwaves were much worse. @ClimateDepot pic.twitter.com/ISKxxd9pjc

Flashback 2021:EPA Disappears More Inconvenient Climate Data, Including the 1930s U.S. Dust Bowl#

USA Heatwave reality check: Global temps below 30-year avg & ‘75% of the states recorded their hottest temperature prior to 1955’ – Worst U.S. heat waves happened in 1930s

Excerpts from Green Fraud:

“It’s Like a Heat Wave!”

Multiple studies find that long-term data show extreme heat waves in the United States have decreased since the 1930s.79 A study published in the Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology found that extreme heatwaves in the United States decreased from 1930 to 2010. According to the authors, “Several daily maximum [extreme heat events] near the 1930s led to 1930-2010 trends of daily maximum [extreme heat events] decreasing.” The overall trend of U.S. heat waves saw a decline from the 1930s until the 1970s global cooling and the coming–ice age scare, followed by a warming with temperatures still not up to levels seen in the 1930s in the U.S.80

University of Alabama climate scientist John Christy’s research has found that “about 75% of the states recorded their hottest temperature prior to 1955, and over 50 percent of the states experienced their record cold temperatures after 1940.”81

Data from the Environmental Protection Agency agree. The EPA website features a 2016 chart labeled “the U.S. Heat Wave Index from 1895 to 2015,” and it reveals that the worst U.S. heat waves by far happened in the 1930s.

(2021 Update: EPA puts inconvenient data on 1930s drought and heat wave down the memory hole)

Page 54 GREEN FRAUD:

Climatologist John Christy has explained why the extreme weather claims are unscientific: “The non-falsifiable hypotheses can be stated this way, ‘whatever happens is consistent with my hypothesis.’ In other words, there is no event that would ‘falsify’ the hypothesis. As such, these assertions cannot be considered science or in any way informative since the hypothesis’ fundamental prediction is ‘anything may happen.’ In the example above if winters become milder or they become snowier, the non-falsifiable hypothesis stands. This is not science.”#Related:

Morano on heatwaves: ‘Every single weather event is now more of a reason to push the Green New Deal…using weather to lobby’ for policies

KRTH Radio Houston – July 8, 2021

“It’s absurd, everywhere there’s a record hot temperature they claim this evidence of global warming” said Marc Morano, author of a great new book titled “Green Fraud: Why The Green New Deal Is Even Worse Than You Think”. … The real motive? Green, from the ‘green new deal’. “This is what happens when you have people with a vested interest in pushing an agenda” Morano told KTRH, “Every single weather event is now more of a reason to push the new green deal. They’re using the weather for their own personal lobbying interests, and we’ve seen this now for decades.”

But it’s not funny. Why? Because the next move? “We are facing the morphing of Covid lockdowns to Climate lockdowns” Morano said. “They’re going to be limiting our freedoms in order to save the climate.”Heatwave reporting illustrates how science has been corrupted with climate groupthink

For comparison, Australian data here:
http://www.geoffstuff.com/asixheatwave2022.xlsx

This shows Australia’s 6 State carpital cities that between nthem house some 70% of the population and have some of the longest temperature data daily records. This series of graphs uses only official Bureau of Meteorology data, either raw as recorded by observers (CDO) or adjusted by the BOM for its ACORN-SAT homogenized data set, here version 2.2 released late in 2021.
The measure I used is the average Tmax over terms of consecutive days of 1, 3, 5 and 10 days. I chose the hottest wave average each year for each length. Of course, the 1-day charts show the hottest Tmax recorded (or adjusted) each year.
So 6 cities X 2 data sets X 4 heatwave intervals X 2 record lengths, long and short, gives 96 graphs. Data starts ijn the 1860s for some cities. Please email me if you want the Excel data.
Conclusions. The values within each graph do not vary much, so the data is somewhat fragile. You easily get different trends by choice of start and finish dates, so it is ripe for cherry picking. Some upward trends in raw become downward trends in homogenized and vice versa. My personal conclusion i that there is so little feature in the data that you can more or less make it tell you what you wish.
Note that Melbourne is 400 km further from the Equator than Sydney, but it has hotter heatwaves. Seems to me the reason is that the heatwaves form a thousand or more km away in central Australian desert country, then get blown S-E to Melbourne, lesser blown East to Sydney. The local Melbourne and Sydney weather records are of little help in explaining why heatwaves are hot and short and infrequent because the drivers are seen in weather from Central Australia plus meteorology. I cannot see any sign of the magic “climate change” effect in these 6-city Australian data.
This presentation is in direct conflict with the BOM official line that heatwaves in Australia are becoming longer, hotter and more frequent. I did not set out to show that. I set out to present the data and accept what it said. The BOM declined to look at my earlier versions, saying they could only read submissions that were peer-reviewed. That is a strange way to correct errors.

Dogma trumps data, much like Mark Morano is saying here for USA.

The heat wave index graph really makes a couple of points.

1 – Both of my parents were raised during the Dirty Thirties on the Great Plains. I heard a lot of stories. The graph really bangs home how different the climate was.

2 – Look at the section of the graph from 1960 to 1980. It’s pretty flat. That’s when we had the Global Cooling scare.

I believe in natural climate change. The alarmists are natural climate change deniers.

The heatwave index at the top is one graph that you will never see on CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, or CBS (the woke main stream media). You might see it on Fox, but I haven’t yet.

There were I believe 6 heatwaves in the USA last year including the record one around NW… and remarkably high temperatures for December across large parts of USA.

but you keep up the narrative of ‘nothing to see here’.

not a single high temperature state record was set in 2021 . 13 all time records were set in 1936 that are still standing . 1936 heat wave lasted 3 months and was coast to coast . last summers NW heatwave was in a relatively small geographic area for a short period of time .

Griff

In any give year on any given day you can expect 100’s if not 1000’s of records to be broken, it’s a very big world with not a very long data record.
I know that you are unbelievably dense but even you at some point have to let that reality sink in.

There have always been heatwaves in the USA. The number of heatwaves last year was small compared to the 1930’s.

As usual, griff actually believes that if it’s a tiny bit warmer this year compared to last, this proves CO2 is going to kill us all.

“but you keep up the narrative of ‘nothing to see here’.”

It would seem that heatwaves in the US don’t correlate with CO², so why do you think having less CO² in the atmosphere would affect them?

Hey!!!!! Look!!! It is simple!!!! simple can’t get over being a simple-minded c*nt. Why? Because it is a simple minded c*nt, just like it always has been and always will be. Just like the climate, no one causes simple to be a simple minded c*nt, and no one can stop it from being a simple minded c*nt because the is all it has ever been and all it will ever be. Simple.

Oh, and Pruitt getting his teeth kicked in by his exwife and his son pissing in his face? Good. You simple minded c*nts deserve all the sh*t you are forced to eat.

Under Trump, the EPA had to present any “findings” to the White House, before publishing.
This biased BS would have never made it passed the White House.

This biased BS is a direct consequence of Dem/Progs executing a coup d’Etat during the 2020 Election, and using mail-in ballots and drop boxes as additional fraud facilitators

One always has to choose a start and end date, but when one does, one has a responsibility to state explicitly the rationale for that decision and any impacts that decision has on the presentation and conclusion. Science has to deal in the whole reality, but space and data quality concerns may mean narrowing ones focus.

That being said, this was an obvious choice to deceive, only slightly mitigated by a later point showing the full picture. They used a propaganda technique of primacy to get their propaganda point to be the main take-away for the average reader. This moves it out of hard science and into political science with the rest of the global warming/climate crisis narrative.

It is this kind of representation by our EPA, and other such as representations of droughts, temperature changes and whatnot by NASA, NOAA, and other Government agencies, that make me doubt the truthfulness of the Government on all issues. Don’t the people who do these things feel any obligation whatever to provide their “customers” and pay masters with complete whole-truth information? Not half truths, but whole truths. Could they possibly be unaware of the damage they are doing to the public trust of Government? Are they unaware or indifferent to the oath they took upon assuming a Government job? Here is the oath, unchanged since the ratification of The Constitution, the same as I took when assuming a Government job many decades ago:

“I, { name }, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

No “purpose of evasion” it says. Where on earth is this country heading?

What is the EPA up to by publishing this slanted data now? How does this play into the further erosion of our liberties and freedoms? There is always a purpose to these revelations from a government agency. Even when they are easily proven to be wrong.

When this subject comes up in mixed company, I usually tell them that in my almost 70 years living in the Midwest along 42 deg N I have experienced an absolute local record cold temperature of -27F(-33C)(1985) twice in my life.

As for the absolute local record hot temperature of 109F(43C)(1934), I have experienced only as high as 102F/80F DP(39C)(1995) which is about a Heat Index of 124F(51C). Not even close.

For the really snotty ones, I ask ‘What are the: Warmest Winter/Coldest Winter/Coolest Summer/Hottest Summer local seasons over the last 100 years based on Heating and Cooling Degree Days’. I give partial credit for getting the correct century, decade or year.

After that exercise, I remind them that 100 years is only 2 or 3 nano-seconds in geologic time.
