WUWT – big changes, returning to a ‘war footing’ on climate

With the likely installation of a Biden administration comes a renewed and likely vicious climate war.

I have inside information that Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) will be pushing the Biden administration, calling for prominent climate skeptics, and climate skeptical organizations to be put on investigations and “show trials” for daring to question the consensus. There may be worse than that coming, as he seems to genuinely believe we’ve committed some sort of crime and should be punished for it. Make no mistake, it’s coming.

I suspect I’ll be personally targeted as well.

While it’s been an easy ride during the Trump administration with him pulling out of the Paris agreement, bringing the gestapo-like EPA back to sensibility, eliminating WOTUS rules, appointing prominent climate skeptics to NOAA, and many other things, we now face a renewed “in your face” series of actions by the Biden administration to make batting the invisible boogeyman of climate change not just a priority, but a declared war.

Hence, eliminating and/or neutralizing the climate skeptics. It’s war psyops 101 – eliminate/neutralize competing voices and media outlets.

To that end, I’m not going down without a fight. I hope you won’t either.

First, starting tomorrow, WUWT will be changing to a new look, something that I’ve been working on behind the scenes on for months. Here is a preview of the new look.

NEW WUWT HOME PAGE

Second, we are likely going to have to move our hosting again. If you haven’t heard about it, the plight of the Conservative Treehouse being de-platformed by their hosting provider provides a glimpse of the likely future ahead for many climate skeptic websites if a Biden administration becomes a reality.

Third, facts are power, and to that end WUWT is launching a new, second website that will be a reference website for many climate topics, linked to the main WUWT site in the menu. It won’t be a discussion or a blog, but more like a user friendly climate wiki. Look for an announcement in the first week of January.

Finally, I’m going to need your help. We’ll need you to share stories, to help get the word out, we’ll need guest authors, we’ll need programming help, and we’ll need donations.

Tomorrow, we start.

I like the new look.

It’s wise to prepare for the possible government backed assault on science.

I do miss your blog list, though. I don’t follow most of them, but I do like to check in with them occasionally. If you read this is it possible that you may make the links available again?

I don’t really care for the format of the new email notifications.

new comment has been posted by the Someone on the discussion section you’ve been interested in
is a bit distracting

But worse is that there is no context to the comment now. The previous format included what the comment was replying to. It makes it harder to follow the conversation without that context.

At first glance I thought that I had clicked the wrong link. I like the upgrade. It was a bit of a surprise to see so much color on the page though.

New site seems nice but for some reason beyond my understanding it has social links to those that will be working on canceling this site and no links to any sites that still allow free speech.

Let me try help you make sense of what Kevin A is saying: You’ve got a “follow me on twitter” section (that’s the only social link I spotted, though I may have missed it if there are others), Surely I don’t have to point out how speech-suppressing twitter has been latterly (they blocked links to an actual mainstream news organization’s new article, do you really think they’ll have no compunction about blocking links to your site?). But no section about following you on any of the twitter alternatives that claim to be more free-speech oriented.

Looking further I also see a “share on” with two options when hovering over the little icon next to people’s names, with Twitter being the first option (We all know about twitter, so no more need be said on that score) VKontakte being the second. Not sure if that second option was there when Kevin A made his post. I don’t know anything about the later option other than that it’s a Russian based social media site. Probably not the best look to have your only alternative to sharing on twitter being a Russian site given the past 4 years of Russian collusion delusion.

The bottom right corner of every page on this site has 6 social links to sites that ban comments that are not PC or ‘WOKE’
Current social media links

No Parler, Gab, Minds, locals

Reddit banned Trump, Facebook, Twitter are Marxist, Instagram, Linkedin and Pinterest ban conservatives

Maybe it all ends up like in occupied countries in Europe during WWII?
We may have to print and distribuate illegal newspapers about climate science and reality.. A system which proved that those who printed the truth was belived and the dictators making up political news which nobody belived.
Those who printed and distribuated unauthorized news was punished. Because the laws were taylored to fit the needs of the ruling class.
This could be an interesting lesson.

On the “Submit a Story” page, where it says “Press the button to continue” in red, no button appears, when using Firefox browser, … in IE (yeah, I still use that too), the button DOES appear.

I like the new look too, even though, it was a shock, when I first got to it — thought I was at the wrong place.

Of course ”its coming” it’s been coming for a decade or more.

This time you all know luke warmerism isn’t going to get you any respect.
attack the very foundation of their bullshpt the radiative greenhouse effect bollo cks,
The absurdity that heat can be recycled from the atmosphere to the emitting surface and then make that emitting surface even warmer than the short wave energy from the sun alone is to stupid for words, as if you can add longwave and short wave together just because the energy contained in both hitting the surface at the same time can magically double the work which doubles heat//

See you have to be wilfully blind not to know quality of energy not quantity is all that counts and cannot add 2 impacts one on top of the other

See if a cook book says you get a perfect loaf of bread out of a lump of dough by cooking at 200c for 2 hours and then leaving in oven for another 2 hours to crisp thats perfection,… you can’t just use the same amount of energy less intensely over 4 hours at 100c and get a perfect loaf, same amount of energy but all you have is a lump of dried out hard dough.

..Quality not quantity is all that matters, the rest is bull shit.

This sites come along way in a decade and the idiotic lightbuld and steel greenhouse bullshipt, listen to the class posters that can debunk the RGHE in just a few short paragraphs.

And respect, because i dont think i could have posted the above a few years back.

Wrong. Promoting nonsense wouldn’t win us respect, it would just cause scientifically literate people to dismiss us as cranks.

We win arguments by attacking what is false, not by attacking what is true.

The radiative greenhouse effect is not “bollocks,” it is a scientific fact. The Big Lie of climate alarmism is not that so-called GHGs have a warming effect, it is that that effect is harmful.

The best evidence is that warm climate optimums are preferable to cold periods, that the so-called (but misnamed) “greenhouse warming” is real, but modest and benign, and that CO2 emissions are beneficial, rather than harmful.comment image

“The radiative greenhouse effect is not “bollocks,” it is a scientific fact”

And yet there is no evidence that warming by atmospheric CO2 actually exists.

It has never been observed or measured anywhere on the planet.

The new look is flashy, but flashy cheap rather than flashy good. Here is my opinion on websites, blogs, etc that go with lots of different colors and things that move. They don’t look serious. They look desperation for attention. This new look reminds me of different site I look at from time to time. I want to believe it and trust it but I have a hard time doing it because of of its design. Best analogy would be one of those stores that have permanent Going Out Of Business signs. Sorry. I much prefer the professional and serious old look.

Also, the actual text area of the page is TINY compared to the width of the page, 50% unused width. Why? Why can’t people use %’s rather than absolutes?

I predict that when in power, people who think it’s their mission to prevent earth’s climate from changing will adapt Covid19 emergency orders to serve climate change mitigation.
Example: If your business or activity is deemed by experts to be “non-essential,” the people in charge will dictate when and where you can operate that business or engage in that activity; how much energy you’re allowed to use; who can supply you that energy, and how it can be generated; how far your customers can travel in order to access your product or service; how you determine who those customers are and where they come from, and how you share that information with a government compliance office, who can then contact consumers directly in order to influence/control the choices they make.

There’s been talk about it for a few months now, so I expect them to just keep pushing. They’ve seen that people will just go along anyway.

Unfortunately, I have no clue, how the “Link-Tag” is used.
If I click on it, nothing happens 🙁

December 18, 2020 8:59 am

Anthony, for what it’s worth, the multiple adverts for the same thing in the same article are excessive, and 50% of the screen is taken up with them. In think a “we’re-not-in-it-for-the-advertising” image is better for WUWT’s message.

It is hard to think of a good strategy for fighting the Climate Change war – but one possible line might be to pick some basic natural phenomenon which is easily measurable – such as teh tropospheric hot-spot, and keep on pushing for it to be measured accurately…?

First comment on the new format.
Taking a bit to get used to for a fossil like me that still doesn’t have a cell phone. 😎
Bur, personally, I’d prefer a blue or green base color.
NOT for political reasons but just because it’s easier on my eyes.

I remember when the three networks first started maps with colors on election night. One used, I think green and yellow, one used … I don’t remember, but one did use blue and red.
The Reds were the Democrats. The Blues were the Republicans. At some point a standard was set reversing the colors.(Red for today’s Dem’s (as in Red China) would have been more apropos.)

The big question is will the American people agree to spend a few trillion bucks to control climate? I would want a guaranteed minimum performance indicator.

December 19, 2020 4:07 am

Whether it’s a climate change fanatical administration under Biden or a more realistic administration under Trump it’ll make no difference to the U.K. where our government is already well-set on a path to ‘Green New Deal’ self -destruction. Love your new site btw.

December 19, 2020 5:55 am

Anthony: Apart from the Redness of it, this new site is a massive improvement. Editing is much easier and preparing comments made hugely better by the more modern editor software.

You might want to reconsider one small syle point though – quoted comment. The massive inverted commas are nearly as ugly as Joe Biden.

Democrats real agenda is expanding the government workforce and mandatory union membership, which pays for Democrat campaigns.

“Climate change” is merely a distraction, so they don’t have to admit what they are really doing – consolidating power, money and votes soley for themselves.

Climate-change got no traction during the past election. Plus none of their proposals make any sense. But it does provide emotionally wrought cover for their big government union power grab.

Pray tell why the Green New Deal, finally on the very last page, mandates all new jobs must be union jobs. And all barriers to workplace unionization be eliminated. Any why was this mandate on the very last page?

How does paying off Democrat union bosses, which are unaccountable third party operations, foster “climate health”?

Climate change is a Trojan horse – for the benefit of the big government employee unions. Follow the money – and it goes right back to the “climate change” ground troops – mainly SEIU and the teachers unions.

I am curious if one can use a private hosting service and have a blog. WUWT is huge, so I’m not sure that’s feasible, but I’m looking for ways to get away from WordPress and Blogger. My blogs are tiny, so it might be possible. I have always just wondered about this and now I have more incentive to check it out. (I know it may be expensive. I pay for my own websites because I don’t like being involved with the giants out there and use a small service provider. We have to find ways around the tech giants.)

If you know anything about server management, are willing to learn, or know someone who can help, it’s not that hard nor that expensive. I host a number of websites, one is a forum and another is (was) a WordPress blog. Spending $30/month for all of it. (I use a service called Rails Playground which is a little more expensive than most but they have great service) – There’s lots of hosting services out there that you can use.
(Maybe I’m telling you something you already know?)

Unless something has changed recently, WordPress can be installed on your own server: https://wordpress.org/support/article/how-to-install-wordpress/
