Sen. Bernie Sanders suggested at Wednesday’s Democratic debate that he would consider prosecuting oil companies for supposedly contributing to climate change.
“What we have to do is tell the fossil fuel industry that their short-term profits are not more important than the future of this planet,” the Vermont senator said in response to a back and forth with billionaire Tom Steyer.
Sanders added: “The fossil fuel industry is probably criminally liable, because they have lied and lied and lied when they had the evidence that their carbon products were destroying the planet.”

Well, he is a Socialist. At least he is consistent. This is what Socialists do. They arrest their opponents and convict them in show trials.
If Comrade Bernie thinks oil executives should be prosecuted for climate crimes, then its a pretty safe bet he’d try to shut down web blogs like WUWT and any others that defy they Left’s climate religion diktats.
Comrade Bernie is proving everyday what much of Party of D thinks of the rule of law, due process, freedom of speech, the right to be secure in one’s private property from government takings.
The one great thing about Bernie is he doesn’t try to hide what he thinks about how our Federal government is based on separation of powers, authority of the States to regulate most of their affairs.
He puts his desire for an authoritarian government, his communism right out there for everyone to see what he is.
Two words for Bernie:
OK, Doomer.
Translated from Newspeak, Bernie Sanders-Claus is really saying, “I want you all to starve in the cold and the dark, but that’s well worth it if we can punish the successful…”
Makes you wonder what Germans were thinking privately in late 1944 and early ’45.
Time for Comrade Bernie to be cut from all products and services brought to the world from petroleum. But we’ll allow him two suits. After all, seeing him naked as he walks the petrolum-free walk is much too scary to contemplate.
Wool Suits.
Made by hand with no fossil fuel produced tools. Not a single piece of coal or a single drop of oil is allowed.
In shelters with no lighting or heating.
Using wool from sheep that are sheared using flints, hand-spun and dyed.
I’d bet the greens would love that.
Eh! Quite the reverse, oil and coal execs should be given medals for saving the entire biosphere of planet Earth.
Plant and animal life have been locking up CO2 in coal and limestone beds for millions of years -stripping CO2 out of the oceans and atmosphere. But that CO2 is the very foundation of the carbon-cycle of all life on Earth. The first saviour for life on Earth was lignin consuming fungi, which prevented yet more plant life being locked up in ever deeper coal beds. Precious CO2 was at last being returned to the atmosphere.
Nevertheless, during the last ice age, CO2 levels got so low, that all plant life at higher altitudes began to die off, causing CO2 deserts and thus massive dust storms across both hemispheres. And during the next ice age, CO2 levels may get so low that all life on Earth is extinguished – at both high and lower altitudes.
So the second saviour for all life on Earth is mankind – or more precisely, the oil and coal companies. They surveyed the world looking for all that buried CO2, then they dug it up and put it back into the atmosphere where it belongs. Plants can now breathe more easily, and life on Earth is no longer threatened with extinction.
Hooray for the oil and coal companies.
Hip-hip hooray.
Give the oil and coal execs medals, for saving all life on Earth…..

Good comment. The world has dropped to near extinction levels of low carbon dioxide. We are lucky that oil companies have helped avoid this problem.
Since the climate change alarmists always lose when they go to court and have to allow the other side to be heard, produce their full data and all that, it might be a good thing. Lay this scam to rest once and for all.
“The fossil fuel industry is probably criminally liable, because they have lied and lied and lied when they had the evidence that their carbon products were destroying the planet”
Translation:
“The fossil fuel industry is probably criminally liable, because they probably lied and lied and lied when they probably had the evidence that probably showed that their carbon products were probably destroying the planet and they probably kept that information a secret probably to serve their profit motive or that’s what Bill McKibben probably said or something like that and this kind of goofy argument will probably hold up in court but probably not and the court’s insistence on admissable evidence is probably part of the oil industry’s profit motive conspiracy or something like that probably and the planet is probably destroyed by now anyway from goofy climate politics.
I hope Bernie sues them then we can have, on oath, the testimony of Climate experts. It would be an interesting trial.
This is a serious question.
Is Bernie Sanders certifiable?
Dementia appears to have kicked in, big time.
Poor Bernie’s suffering from cranial-rectal-inversion.
What exactly could oil companies do that would satisfy people like Bernie? Refuse to pump oil? Utilities in NYC said they can’t hook up any more people because of lack of pipeline capacity and Cuomo starts an investigation of them. Isn’t that what he wanted?
Imagine that! Strike for climate common sense.
Wouldn’t take long for a million times more people to protest a lack of fossil fuels.
Particularly when people start freezing to death in their homes.
Come and get me copper.
“The green industry is probably criminally liable, because they have lied and lied and lied when they had the evidence that their carbon products were destroying the planet.”
Interesting legal theory, Bernie.
We could also try this:
“Congress is probably criminally liable, because they have lied and lied and lied when they had the evidence that their enormous deficit budgets were destroying the economy of the country.”
Let’s run both ideas in front of the public, and see which one gets more support.
Prosecute people who are selling a legal product that is legal to have, to sell, to transport, and to use.
Sure, why not?
Just make up a law and charge them with it retroactively…nothing unconstitutional about that, huh?
What about the people who buy it and burn it?
What about the governments that not only condone this, but tax it and balance budgets based on revenue from sales of these products?
Local, state, county, and federal…they all do much more than simply look the other way.
They tax it, regulate it, and even sell leases to obtain these products from the ground.
The truth is that Bernie is either a psychotic fool, or a cynical liar.
You left out delusional idiot.
Nicholas, embrace the power of and.
Bill, in my opinion “delusional idiot” is covered under “pshychotic fool”.
Bernie Sanders is under the delusion that green energy can replace fossil fuels. And the self righteous hypocrite that he is wants to virtue signal that he is more righteous than the other green energy hypocrites. Green Energy is not viable because:
1) There is no long term viable power storage.
2) Advocates talk about making it less unreliable instead of making it 99.99% reliable.
3) Wind Energy has a very negative environmental impact.
4) Cost of reliable Green Energy is 2 – 4 times the cost of fossil fuels. By the time it doubles or even before, working class people will rebel as in France and Chile. Of course people like the hypocrite Bernie are so well off that they will blame the poor.
What is wrong with these people? Bernie is to old to become amish, as is the fake native American, who wants to stop oil drilling… The day petrol/diesel is not available for the masses, their will be riots and these vile politicians will not be voted back in to power…. I truly hope trump gets another term, a d after trump we get somebody who stands up to the un and ipcc.
Aw, look at the bright side. If they ban drilling, the price of healthcare would drop precipitously. No pharmaceuticals, no IV lines, no monitoring equipment, fewer medical instruments, etc.
It could be the first step toward affordable healthcare for all. Isn’t that on Bernie’s list of free stuff?
(snark)
Good luck, Bernster. You want to launch frivolous lawsuits without merit, we’ll be happy to launch some of our own, like being an economic imbecile. Surely there’s a law against that. Oh, there isn’t? Huh. Well maybe you have a point. There’s gotta be a law against oil company executives doing business. Oh, there isn’t? Weird. Well, we’re back to “good luck with that.”
OK. But will he prosecute watch makers for excessive sunrises and sunsets?
When does the new book come out Bernie? You’re not fooling me.
Democrat philosophy Its the magnitude of the accusation that counts. In other words to paraphrase, proof, we don’t need no stinking proof.
As Biden said we choose truth over facts. And as Hitler said if a big lie is told often enough the lie will be the truth.
Translation, anything they say must be believed or you are a denier.
They want the money.
Maybe Bernie should look at prosecuting chainsaw manufacturers as well. After all chainsaws cut down the forests all by them selves don’t they? Automobile manufacturers, paint, tyres, plastic, glass, concrete… Get my drift? The list is endless.
Oil companies only supply the product, the consumers decided they needed it. As has Bernie all his life.
Hypocrisy abound.
The supreme court recently allowed a law suit against gun manufacturers for selling guns that are dangerous, to go forward.
Yes I read that. Those guns must be dangerous, if they can shoot at targets without human help.
The type of gun being argued about are not allowed to be used to hunt deer in a number of states because the killing power is too low.
Dumped into the moderation bin because I used the K word.
Sheesh, can’t WordPress join the 21st century.
As a potential candidate for the office that runs a country, Sanders speaks in a way that displays criminally negligent ignorance.
He is a prime product of fearmongering.
We’re doomed, … NOT because of climate change, but because of people like him.
When will these thickies, like Sanders, start to begin to understand that he, amongst millions of others, are the cause, not the casualties of his imagined global warming. Over his long years, he has burned huge amounts of oil in his car, flown the World by aeroplane, enjoyed many years of central heating in his homes, travelled by train, and used electricity in his homes for heating, cooking and working at night. Has he ever stopped to think for one moment what he and the rest of us would do without oil to drive all these benefits which have brought the world to the wonderful place it is today? When will people like Sanders learn the simple truth that oil companies only extract the product from the earth; it is people like you Mr Sanders and the rest of the World’s population that buy the oil and put your mythical polluting product into the atmosphere. No doubt you will be driving to your local gas station later in the week to buy fues to fill up your vehicle tank as usual: What hypocrites you and your supporters are.
