Climate Crusader Greta Thunberg Tipped to Win Nobel Peace Prize

Border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Guess which country has the wealthier more industrialized economy, and which one has less industry?

Guest essay by Eric Worrall

Three Swedish MPs have nominated Greta Thunberg for the Nobel Peace Prize, because of her efforts to raise awareness of the damage fossil fuels are causing to the environment.

Greta Thunberg: The teenage climate activist tipped to win Nobel Peace Prize

Environmental campaigner delivered emotional speech to UN last month
Tom Parfitt

Swedish environment activist Greta Thunberg is being tipped to win the Nobel Peace Prize following a remarkable year in which the teenager’s “school strike for climate” movement has grown to worldwide prominence.

Here is everything you need to know about the 16-year-old.
Who is Greta Thunberg?

Greta Thunberg began a lone protest outside Sweden’s parliament in October 2018 when she was 15, saying would refuse to attend school on Fridays until the government tackled the growing climate and ecological crisis.

In the 12 months since, she has become one of the world’s most talked-about people, having been invited to speak at the UN general assembly – where she invoked the wrath of Donald Trump – and inspiring global protests attracting hundreds of thousands of young campaigners.

“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words,” the teenager told world leaders during her emotional and confrontational speech at the UN last month.

“And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction. And all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. How dare you.”

Sorry Michael Mann, better luck next year.

I’ve got to say it would be more impressive if Greta knew anything about the global environment. There is no evidence “ecosystems are collapsing”, actual measurement suggests that the Earth is greening, thanks largely to nations like India and China planting more trees and taking better care of their environments, but also due to CO2 fertilisation.

Here’s a pop quiz question for Greta and her friends; why is it that China and India suddenly seem to have the spare cash to take better care of their environments?

The picture at the top of this post, the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, illustrates the difference between having an industrialised economy and not having a thriving industrial sector. My guess is most of you guessed correctly which side of the border ordinary people can afford to buy fossil fuel.

I must say it is difficult to see how forcing people in the Dominican Republic to go back to using climate friendly biofuel, like their friends in Haiti, would help prevent collapse of the local ecosystem.

She’ll begin her acceptance speech with “I shouldn’t be here. The Earth is dying. Animals are collapsing. Plants are frying. The heated acid oceans are killing corals, and fish, melting the ice and raising the seas. You have stolen my childhood and my future, and yet here you sit, spouting your empty, meaningless words, and doing nothing to stop it. HOW DARE YOU!

Now how about visiting China? The greenest route involves a shovel and a little patience!

I guess she has been nominated, one class of nominators per https://www.nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/ is “Members of national assemblies and national governments (cabinet members/ministers) of sovereign states as well as current heads of states”

However, keep in mind:

Are the nominations made public?

The statutes of the Nobel Foundation restrict disclosure of information about the nominations, whether publicly or privately, for 50 years. The restriction concerns the nominees and nominators, as well as investigations and opinions related to the award of a prize.

50 year secrecy rule

The Committee does not itself announce the names of nominees, neither to the media nor to the candidates themselves. In so far as certain names crop up in the advance speculations as to who will be awarded any given year’s Prize, this is either sheer guesswork or information put out by the person or persons behind the nomination. Information in the Nobel Committee’s nomination database is not made public until after fifty years.

Also, from https://www.nobelpeaceprize.org/Nomination :

Nomination

There are 301 candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2019 out of which 223 are individuals and 78 are organizations.

301 is the fourth highest number of candidates ever. The current record of 376 candidates was reached in 2016.

Neither the names of nominators nor of nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize may be divulged until 50 years have elapsed.

If Greta becomes the first Messiah to win the Nobel Peace Prize what awards or achievements are left.
May I suggest:-
Winning School Egg and Spoon race assuming she ever goes back to school.
Fastest crossing of Atlantic by 16 year old on a yacht without a toilet.
Winning the Egremont Crab Fair Gurning Contest. (If wondering what this is Google it!)

One wonders when the UN will be told that they should find a new HQ location- rather than in the USA.
Is Greta familiar with the fate of the League of Nations?

What does “environmentalism” have to do with “peace” ?
The “environmentalists” are definitely not “peaceful” !

According to Wikipedia St. GT’s occupation is “Environmental activist”!?
It is new to me that there is an occupation called environmental activist, but that is probably because I am too old to know. I guess that has been my long life occupation too, as I have ever so often asked people to take their litter with them home, instead of spreading it all over the forest; engineering has just been my hobby, just as St. GT’s hobby is being a student.

If she is awarded the Peace Prize, it is a real insult to those who have previously won it for making an active contribution to peace in the world. She has done NOTHING except rant. She doesn’t even have a grasp of the big picture (mind you, how many 16 yr olds do?) . It will be a travesty if it is awarded to her.

The Nobel Peace Prize lost any and all credibility after it was awarded to Obama, Al Gore and the U.N. IPCC based on pure politics having nothing to do with anything resembling meaningful results.

O’Bummer got a Nobel Peace Prize for doing absolutely nothing. Why shouldn’t Greta Thunderbird get a Nobel Peace Prize for driving millions of children to the edge of madness? Next year Nobel Peace Prizes will be offered free in Cornflake Packets to lucky winners.

According to Rupert Darwall in his book Green Tyranny, the Swedish ambassador to the UN from 1977 to 1982 was one Anders Thunberg, the international secretary of the Swedish Social Democratic Party. Does anyone know if there’s a connection?

Still, very seriously and hard scratching my head in the consideration of this movie
“Idiocracy” actually propagating so strongly as prophetic… as some one else has already point it out.

Jealousy, the main and the proper path to acts of “noble cause corruption” especially when one no aware and completely blind to that condition… where and when all the rest of the features there involved only as permissible and justifiable add-ons on further fueling and inspiration of and towards the “noble cause corruption” activity.

cheers

Greta’s mass movement is a “major contribution to peace” in the same way that Hitler’s mass movement was a major contribution to peace.

Some random, incoherent thoughts:

1. How dare they NOT award her the the prize. Imaging the outrage! No child would ever go to school again.
2. At least she won’t require a carbon fibre yacht to collect the loot.
or
3. Could the Committee take this opportunity correct an obvious oversight and award the prize to to a certain MM?

Why Greta should win the Nobel Peace Prize. She has raised the bar. Instead of being worried for our grandchildren’s future, children now are worried about their own short term future. This will have the effect of instead of talking about it endlessly and doing nothing, now we will have demands that something be done now. It doesn’t matter what. Sacrifices will be demanded. We already are doing the token ones. Get ready for the real ones.

How soon before they realize that all the proposed solutions will fail to have any effect, and then they call for the final solution? The Final Solution. Either the Jim Jones version or the Pol Pot version. Or world war. All it takes is a leader with no social skills and R.I.P.

No, don’t encourage the fanatics.

Virtual every solution I can think of to accomplish the warmist stated goals would lead total conflict world wide. Perhaps that is their ultimate goal. Remember the half century (plus some) solution. Reduce the world population by 90%.
