According to The Conversation, the reason people get angry at the high tax job destroying policies advocated by female green leaders is because we are expressing our toxic masculinity.
Green with rage: Women climate change leaders face online attacks

Catherine McKenna, Canada’s environment and climate change minister, recently announced that she’s had to hire security to protect herself and her family while in public. With an election now on, it’s likely she’ll face further abuse in the weeks to come.
McKenna hired security after she was out with her children and a driver rolled down his window and shouted: “F-k you, Climate Barbie.” This sexist taunt was popularized by Conservative MP Gerry Ritz, who once used the slur in reference to McKenna on Twitter.
…
Maxime Bernier, leader of the Peoples’ Party of Canada, recently tweeted at 16-year-old activist Greta Thunberg, calling her:
“…clearly mentally unstable. Not only autistic, but obsessive-compulsive, eating disorder, depression and lethargy, and she lives in a constant state of fear.”
…
Following the proposal of the New Green Deal by U.S. congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, critics attacked her intelligence and her personal and professional background. National Review writer Charles Cooke referred to her as an “unmarried, childless bartender” who “somehow has the temerity to fancy herself a congressional representative.” He claimed the New Green Deal she supports is:
“ …an untrammeled Dear Santa letter without form, purpose, borders, or basis in reality.”…
Misogyny at work
…
Climate denialism has also been linked to traditional assumptions of masculinity. Research shows that climate deniers are more likely to adhere to older forms of industrial modern masculinity that helped to push society towards “industrialization, mechanism and capitalism.”
Accordingly, some climate deniers prefer this older form of masculinity over a newer “eco-modern masculinity” of care and compassion for the environment.
A 2019 study found that some men will avoid certain environmental actions, such as recycling or using reusable shopping bags, in order to maintain “an outward-facing heterosexual identity.”
These versions of heterosexual masculinity appear to be predicated upon the domination and exploitation, rather than the preservation, of the environment.

I’m personally disgusted at efforts by climate activists to shut down criticism by accusing their critics of being racists or misogynists.
I do not support whoever allegedly yelled “f-k you climate barbie” at Catherine McKenna in the middle of the street, making someone feel personally unsafe should never be an acceptable part of democratic political discourse.
But the fact is climate activists legitimately deserve criticism. They want us to spend billions, maybe trillions of dollars on their wild ideas, and they want to seize control of untold trillions of dollars worth of assets which don’t belong to them, based on the flimsiest of evidence.
Climate activists suggesting their opponents have bad motives is a transparent and shameless attempt to silence legitimate criticism of their outrageously awful policy ideas.

They left out old, white (particularly Southern) men. I’ve been told for several decades that as one of those I’m responsible for every evil in the world for the past 2-4 thousand years. Might as well be blamed for not jumping on the 16-year-old, school dropout with a number of mental disorders ban wagon.
versions of heterosexual masculinity …..so gay people can’t be butch?
…talk about sterotyping
What about the other 13590972435 sexes? or are you being exclusionary?
McKenna sais she has no use for “climate deniers”. Yet she lies when she said she tries to engage. She never replied or acknowledged my letter to her. It is likely the flunkies filtered it out before she could read it. I got my MP to read it after I spoke to him and sent it to a more private e-mail.
I love how self-proclaimed experts who’ve never met me, let alone spoken to me in any medium, can intuit my motivations for anything that I do. Perhaps all women truly do think that men can read their minds, because they seem to act like they can read ours.
Recycling programs, as instituted in the current urban world, are laughably dumb and were never a good idea. (Coincidentally, or not, so are Climate Barbie and many of her Cabinet-mates, and especially her nominal boss.) The only way plastic store bags have ever been single-use for me is when they’re made so poorly, that they get holes in them before I get home. Safeway in Canada is particularly bad for this, to the point that they just automatically double-bag almost everything anyway (helpful, but not eco-logical). And as I’ve stated to others, the best way to designate almost any product as “crap” is to use the prefix “Eco-“.
If Climate Barbie is so triggered by someone shouting expletives at her and calling her names that she thinks she needs personal security, perhaps she should withdraw her election candidacy and find a safe space somewhere. No one will miss her vapid, empty-headed commentary on matters about which she has no knowledge or expertise. Greta, on the other hand, is more tragedy than farce, and it should be stopped, instead of being enabled by all and sundry in the media and elsewhere.
Climate Barbie is an expert on the environment courtesy of her degree in French Literature and International Relationships.
I love these climate experts who avoided all science classes in high school and university because the sciences are hard.
“Are you an atmospheric physicist?”
“No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.”
I also had the pleasure awhile back of running off our local Liberal incumbent when he came around electioneering long before it was called. He didn’t like being challenged about CO2 not being “carbon pollution”, the pipeline and other talking points, or the bribery payout to the Canadian media. That was actually the one that sent him scurrying. He realised his talking points weren’t gonna work. His reaction actually did more damage than he thinks: he kind of knows my wife socially through a mutual organisation of theirs, and she was stunned he turned tail so rudely. Even having grown up under a literal one-party system, she thought that was beyond the pale. She does not like him any more (I didn’t think he was likable to begin with).
I LIKE IT
Ah, those thin plastic grocery store shopping bags: I use mine as a means of disposing of used cat litter from the catboxes. Does two things: recycles something that is otherwise useless, and contains cat litter quite nicely so that it can be transported safely to the nearest garbage hill, and the wet contents that the cat leaves behind will degrade into – guess what???? METHANE!!!!!
That was one of my usages for them. When they didn’t charge for them, I also used them generally as garbage bags or short-term carry bags for various things. Now, I don’t so much, but they still get used that way from time to time, especially in the car.
There were always solutions available for plastic: the ones they came up were just horribly conceived.
Yes. Plastic grocery bags. Banned in my hometown after local schools decided to encourage their students to become environmentally active and ‘participate in the law-making process’ – basically letting children write legislation – and of course, hiding the agenda behind human shields, who we just CAN’T criticize because it would be mean.
I’m sure they all love Greta.
Add that to the list of skeptic’s defects?
Climate change critics, skeptics, must have things wrong with them.
Otherwise they would’t be so critical of science, smarty pants people.
Stop criticizing her. Modern day Nongqawuse will lead the world to a brighter future.
Saying masculitity is “toxic” is ad Hominem.
What to expect from a movement that wants to reduce population by 5 billion – Ad Hominens?
I hope this election in Oct…she is voted out and off the island too!
Ask an African woman in a country with at best 3 hours of electricity per day whether she sees Greta as a ‘green Messiah’ and she will tell you that she sees a spoilt, well-fed, well-off white woman who tells the poorest of poor people that there is a standard of living they are not allowed to aspire to. Just like in good old colonial days, actually.
A politician gets abuse in public?
Part of the job.
“I’m personally disgusted at efforts by climate activists to shut down criticism by accusing their critics of being racists or misogynists. ”
Me too, but they have no choice, as the truth isn’t on their side. It’s a pox on science and humanity that the rest of the world can’t see through these obvious attempts at deflection and projection.
The notion that young Greta has some sort of acquired or gifted knowledge behind her demands for action is just plain stupid.
It’s the kind of empty gibberish so prevalent with all things progressive.
There is no excuse for criticising the girl.
Stick to the points she raises and solutions she promotes. There is no reason she cannot be your friend and co-worker, while disagreeing profoundly about the problem definition and reasonable solutions.
Learn to consult properly without becoming a back-biting gossip.
The points she raises are very often that she is a child and so we must do as she says because the future is hers and not ours.
If she and her communist ilk ever get the future they want for us all, people will sit around wondering how the Hell it was allowed to happen.
People with evil plans want to be left alone.
We should not give them their wish.
They use her exactly because they know many people will react the way you do.
Her message is toxic waste, and a large part of it is based on exactly who she is.
And no…no one who wants to panic the world and scare the bejeebers out of small children, promising them they live on a doomed planet, can be my friend.
And I would not work anyplace that employed such scoundrels.
Scoundrel? Sounds harsh?
One of her very loud messages is to tell other kids it is 100% pointless for them to go to school.
Leave the kid alone, right.
How about going after the much older girls, like Ms Getty, who pledged $600,000 to the Extinction Rebellion? Or Rory Kennedy, the daughter of Robert Kennedy, along with the “philanthropist” Trevor Neilson?
Let’s see how brave the “masculines” really are!
Follow the money trail, guys!
“I’m personally disgusted at efforts by climate activists to shut down criticism by accusing their critics of being racists or misogynists.”
Meh. This kind of thing is par for the course for the leftists. If you espouse anything thought outside the position they are promoting you are denigrated and dehumanized. The leftist position is; everything within the message, nothing outside the message, nothing against the message.
The people behind “The Conversation” and the authors of this piece may be unaware of the fact that misogyny has an opposite known as misandry — the fear and hatred of men.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misandry
In this day and age of leftism, it becomes all too easy for women (especially feminist women in academia) to go on the attack against men and masculinity without caring (or realizing?) that misogyny has an opposite. I will suggest here that this “toxic masculinity” idea has been created largely as a political excuse for left wing females to rub men’s gender in their own faces in the hopes that their own sexism will not be exposed. Misandrism (misandryism?) is legitimized by masking or reformulating it as “toxic masculinity’ as it becomes a political tool against those of the male gender who do not toe the correct party line on an issue of the day, including climate change. Misandrism by any other name is still misandrism.
That sexism (like racism) is a two-way street seems to be lost among those who are so wrapped up in their own self-righteousness that they are blind to the fact of it. We have a mainstream media today which is all too obsessed with the idea that the street goes only in one direction. Is it okay for women to hate men and blacks to hate whites? It would appear so.
Having said all of this though, I think we should remind ourselves here that the REAL problem is not Greta’s position on climate change, but that of the adults behind her. The adults hiding behind her who do not come forward are demonstrating that Greta is just a tool to appeal to the emotions of the scientifically illiterate on the subject of climate. Minors should not be the tools for any adults to abuse for such a purpose.
The use of misandrism (a.k.a. toxic masculinity) in the climate wars (among other things) seems to have been legitimized as a means to an end in academia. As such, women become easily manipulated into believing that the so-called “climate crisis” actually exists.
Regarding toxic masculinity, have any feminist activists ever heard of a male hormone called testosterone? Have they read about or studied how it affects male behavior?
CD in W
Thanks for your observations and correction of my misuse of “misanthropy” above. I should have used misandry. It is so rarely used that I remembered the wrong word.
You are correct that misandry is common in complaints about toxic masculinity. The result is people tune out. Attention spans are short so mischaracterizing people and problems means the contribution is skipped.
Women also have testosterone, as men also have estrogen. Both hormones are necessary for normal function. Many years ago, an old boyfriend did’n just jump for safety when a car climbed the curb – he threw me to the safety of the adjacent flower bed. That behaviour is masculinity, and it does not necessarly correlate with being a great muscle bound lump.
You only have to look at Greta’s parents and the timing of their book release, and Greta’s ‘strike’ and being pushed into the public eye to realise that it’s all a carefully orchestrated PR job.
The catch is that the ‘front girl’ is triply protected from criticism on account of being female, a child, and having mental health problems.
Criticise a white woman promoting some insane policy – MISOGYNIST!
Criticise a dark-skinned man promoting same – RACIST!
etc. ad nauseam.
The more ‘protected’ categories the better the insulation.
There is abuse going on with respect to Greta, child abuse, by her parents, aided by the sycophantic media and virtue signalling politicos.
The ‘Greta’ spectacle is bad enough, but the general climate change/crisis/catastrophe/emergency frenzy in the media has got me so angry I am finding it harder to keep my mouth shut these days.
I’m off to the pub to cheer myself up.
I love the fact that her claim to fame is skipping school and encouraging others to do the same.
She’s only protected if you think she is.
While she pretends to be an adult, you are free to treat her as an adult.
While she puts herself in the public discourse, she should be asked the hard questions.
While she thinks she’s got the answers to all the world’s problems, she needs to explain herself more fully.
There is no sexuality, age, injury, education or mental issues that should protect someone who wants to force the world to transition into their idea of utopia. They need to be smacked-down as often as possible, lest they try to do their best to make it all happen.
“Research shows that climate deniers are more likely to adhere to older forms of industrial modern masculinity that helped to push society towards “industrialization, mechanism and capitalism.”
The journal article states “We contend that climate sceptics in Sweden can be understood as being intertwined with a masculinity of industrial modernity that is on decline.”
Somehow this morphs into “Research shows”. These gender studies graduates are just too full of themselves.
The “study”cited in in the journal “NORMA — International Journal for Masculinity Studies” . It apparently doesn’t allow anything except anti-male findings…..
Yet another nonsense “studies” field.
The toxicity is all them. Classic projection.
Com play with us Danny, for ever, and ever, and ever….
Greta is useful especially for the message her visage projects of purity of purpose and strength of will. Because her demeanor never changes she never appears to waver in her commitment and zeal. This type of appearance is iconographic in art and movies.
One early example from Archaic Greece is the female statues termed ‘kore’ (singular) and ‘korai’ (plural).
https://www.google.com/search?q=kore+statue&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari
Note that the expression of the face of a kore statue does not convey emotion. The adoption by propagandists of Greta as the face of the faction supporting CAGW seems very deliberate. How can you argue (persuade) with that person? Her mind is made up.
She doesn’t have a mind to change
Come play with us Danny, for ever, and ever, and ever….
She and her fellow climate morons are now demonstrating how moronic they are, in front of the White House, chanting ““No more coal, no more oil, keep your carbon in the soil”
More .
Next Friday the climate morons are striking globally. Fun.
Why so Pro-Choice? No, the First Amendment is not sex or gender selective.
Your first attempt at trolling ?
Which part? The first: Pro-Choice quasi-religion (“ethics”), selective, opportunistic, politically congruent? The second: First Amendment, a basket of civil rights weaponized by social justice adventurists. Or, the last: sex and gender, which has suffered a progressive conflation since it became politically congruent… convenient? That said, I strive to ignore the political myths, the sociopolitical constructs, the bullies, and return to principles, observable, reproducible, internally, externally, and mutually consistent.
Nice job.
You left 5-6 fires burning in your wake.
That’s a kid. To be treated with some care. And ad hominem attacks deserve harsh consequences. We are no animals and if we behave as such we should not be surprised to be treated in kind. That being said, Greta has put herself into the harsh wind – she wanted that. Criticizing her for what she says and does must be allowed, even harsh criticism. If she is wrong, it must be OK to say so. If she spouts opinions and cannot back them up, it must be OK to point that out. If she does things that fly in the face of protecting the climate for media exposure, she must deal with the calling out. She is not an innocent little girl anymore – she is a public persona by her own choice. Now she must deal with the backlash. Don’t like that? Tough …
