Anyone who doubts that the green movement is morphing into a millenarian cult should take a close look at Greta Thunberg. This poor young woman increasingly looks and sounds like a cult member. The monotone voice. The look of apocalyptic dread in her eyes. The explicit talk of the coming great ‘fire’ that will punish us for our eco-sins. There is something chilling and positively pre-modern about Ms Thunberg. One can imagine her in a sparse wooden church in the Plymouth Colony in the 1600s warning parishioners of the hellfire that will rain upon them if they fail to give up their witches.

It actually makes sense that Ms Thunberg – a wildly celebrated 16-year-old Swede who founded the climate-strike movement for schoolkids – should sound cultish. Because climate-change alarmism is becoming ever stranger, borderline religious, obsessed with doomsday prophecies.
Consider Extinction Rebellion, the latest manifestation of the upper-middle classes’ contempt for industrialisation and progress. It is at times indistinguishable from old fundamentalist movements that warned mankind of the coming End of Days. I followed Extinction Rebellion from Parliament Square to Marble Arch yesterday and what I witnessed was a public display of millenarian fear and bourgeois depression. People did dances of death and waved placards warning of the heat-death of the planet. It felt deeply unnerving.
It struck me that this was a march against people. Most radical protest and direct action is aimed at officialdom or government or people with power. This macabre schlep through London was aimed squarely at ordinary people. Banners and placards made no disguise of the marchers’ contempt for how the masses live. We were told that ‘Meat = heat’ (that is, if you carry on eating meat, you fat bastards, the planet will get even hotter) and that driving and flying are destroying Mother Earth.

Of course, it’s okay for them to fly – Emma Thompson jetted first-class from LA to London to lecture us plebs about all our eco-destructive holidaymaking. It’s only a problem when we do it; it’s only bad when we take advantage of the miracle of mass food production and the expansion of flight to make our lives fuller and more pleasurable. They detest that. They detest mass society and its inhabitants: the masses.

She comes off like a cross between Pippi Longstocking and the Pied Piper. But who’s PAYING the piper? Using a child afflicted w/ Asperger syndrome is a whole new low.

As a Swede, I’m truly ashamed of being just that and this is even more increased at looking at/listening to our premier, Stefan Löfven, world’s absolutely most misfitted top politician, incl. mr Nobama.

It’s not GT I’m so /concerned about but the huge masses of unthinking drones who follow her sign this insane path. Plus the XR logo is kind of ominous, a twisted power symbol.

The mindset is similar, for the ‘fanatic’ appeasement is impossible for all these attempts do is reinforce their ‘rightness’ and so they ask for more. While any action for the ‘greater cause ‘can be justified no matter what the cost to others.
The words ‘for the good of the people ‘ are sadly used before events which are far from ‘good’ and certainly not what ‘the people ‘ want .
I just don’t get why what a 16 year old says is of any importance? Oh wait, she’s saying what the Alarmist adults agree with, so she must be right…
Honestly, this is is just madness.
One issue for people with Thunberg’s background, is the tendency to view the world in terms of absolutes. It is a word without grey areas where things are either correct or wrong depended the person outlook, and where challenges to their views are consider a challenge to their very being.
At the extreme such people would not burn ‘witches’ but they could certainly create an atmosphere where ‘witch burring’ becomes normalised.
And fame and adoration may merely reinforce such a mindset.
Never canonize people that are still alive because saints cannot be critiquized.
Now reverse this rule: a person beyond criticism is a saint.
Critisising society for children is meaningless, a kid enters a world it did not shape.
So in this respect little Greta is a saint.
Climate activists make their statement through this poor girl to be immune to criticism.
This demonstrates the non scientific, however religieus, nature of the climate alarmists.
They lack fysical arguments.
We notice an outbreak of religious madness, the result of existential fears formerly controlled by the church but now relentless exploited by the environmentalists.
On the No Agenda podcast the hosts have been referring to the Greta movement as child abuse. I wholeheartedly agree.
The greatest gift given to us realists by the climate alarmists, was there choice of villain being CO2.
The AGW movement/Climate Change activists by adopting CO2 as the evil agent, were effectively given weapons without firing pins, by their ignorant but powerful manipulators.
Where I live here in the UK, the campaign to ban plastic is getting underway with pictures of activists in the local paper, and jute bags everywhere and so on. The lady (why is it always a lady?) heading the local effort to turn the clocks back to the 1890s pre plastic era, works for the water supply company in this part of Britain.
Their policy (the green socialists) is to ban all plastic from our homes as the first objective, keeping it local you see.
I will attend one of the upcoming gatherings and ask her this simple question.
When you have removed all plastic from “your” home, can you tell us what will be insulating the electricity cables we are forced to rely on, now fossil fuel and its products i.e. plastic, is banned?
Her familiarity with all things water supply, will allow me to attend the next meeting and ask another simple question.

Not all climate scientists look at things the same way, Greta.
I don’t regard people that need to change the data to suit their theories as scientists.

The comparison with Salem early 1600 is apt. The witch hunt was initiated by 3 girls of the difficult age and picked up by nefarious adults to get their own way. I have said this before: The belief in man-made climate change is like the belief in witchcraft. Once you believe in it you see it everywhere. And the rationalists who say that there are no witches do so because, of course, they are witches themselves or at least sleep with the devil. It only ends when it is shown crystal clearly that the witchfinder generals are liars.
No-one has yet mentioned in these comments the algorical connection. The Swedish organisation “We Do Not Have Time” used Greta for publicity. One of the founders of WDNHT is Ingmar Rentzsog, a member of Gore’s Climate Reality Organization Leaders (a named partner organisation of WDNHT) and he was trained by them in 2017/18.
I would suggest that a caring parent would not have manipulated their child into an exposed position where they could so easily be exploited by a third party.

Yes, but I do not see your “AlGorical” reference which is the connection I pointed out, not included in any previous commentary. Perhaps my fault for not using plainer English. The main gist of my argument is that if GT’s parents (or mother in particular) had not already thrust her disadvantaged offspring into the full glare of the limelight, she would not have become ensnared by an organisation which through Rentzsog (there appears to be more than one spelling in use) has direct connection to Gore cash. The child states that the mother was blameless. I think not.
When you need to rely on children and making people feel guilty for the sin of merely existing, your arguments, such as they are, have no merit. Otherwise you wouldn’t have to use such corrupt, dishonest tactics. Dr. King made much more of an impact, going up against an almost intractable problem, and he never used such tricks.
This is becoming more and more like some spook movie from the 1960s. Alfred Hitchcock ran an episode in which a boy grew mushrooms in the basement of his parents’ house, and became weirder and weirder, because he was eating the mushrooms. Then his father found the mushroom “farm” in the basement, the kid found him and gave him one to eat with this crazy-pants AOC glare in his eyes. And the father “converted” to mushroom land.
Then there was ‘Midwich Cuckoos’, a spooky story about weird kids in the town of Midwich, which became a (very bad) movie “Children of the Damned”, with the kids having weird telepathic powers that could make adults slam their cars into trees – stuff like that. And later, in another burst of genius, some production group came up with “Children of the Corn”, which was one short of ‘Day of the Triffids’ in pure spook silliness, never mind the Pod People movies.
The similarity to the Childrens Crusades in the 13th century, as someone pointed out above, is very likely intentional on the part of whoever supports this child, using her as a mouthpiece to try to Rule the World. Why do they always want to “rule the world” when they can’t even pick up after themselves and put their trash in the trashbin?
The difference is that very few children are starving where this teenager comes from, as happened in the 13th century. Unfortunately, nobody wanted or was willing to help the 13th century kids on their way to Rome, so many of them fell by the wayside. The Pope didn’t want them, either. With this teenager, who looks like she’s about 13, not 16, she’s just a pawn in this idiotic attempt to Control/Rule the World and she doesn’t realize it because she started it. What happens when she’s no longer a useful pawn in that game?
It is appallingly disgusting, in every possible way.
I predict a Nobel prize is in the offing.

She is 16, had barely had an education, and yet lectures to adults about what they should do about “climate change”.
All she knows of the subject is what propaganda has been forced into her by her teachers and parents.
She hasn’t even lived long enough to understand normal variations in the weather.
Maybe she should completed her education, and at least made a study of the subject she talks about.
A bit of humility and acceptance that she doesn’t actually know everything, wouldn’t go amiss.
The really annoying thing is that everyone fawns over her and nobody ever question a single fact about what she is saying.
The BBC treats her as if she was the world’s greatest expert on the climate, instead of 16 year old school child.
Of course, none of this really matters in the world of alarmist climate change hysteria.
I suspect that there is a stong chance that she will be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize at some stage.
Angry children pushing chaos is what the left have become.
No scientific arguments to support the calling of a ‘crisis’/end of world.
The facts do not support AGW, there is no CAGW.
The left still push silly ‘green’ plans that have not worked and will not work for basic fundamental engineering reasons.
