Bill Nye’s Latest Climate Warning: The US Will Have To Grow Its Food In Canada

From The Daily Caller

Michael Bastasch | Energy Editor

Bill Nye “the Science Guy” has another global warming prediction — Americans will have to grow their food in Canada if nothing is done to limit temperature rise.

“The agriculture in North America is going to have to move north into what would nominally be Canada and we don’t have the infrastructure,” Nye told MSNBC host Chris Matthews Tuesday night.

“We don’t have the railroads and roads to get food from that area to where we need it around the world,” Nye warned.

WATCH:

Nye made his remarks as freezing temperatures descended over much of Canada and the U.S., bringing below-zero temperatures across the Midwest and Great Plains. When wind chill is factored in, it really feels like -53 degrees Fahrenheit to Minnesota residents.

In Chicago, the temperature hit -22 degrees Wednesday morning, with a wind chill of -47 degrees. Officials are warning residents to stay indoors and avoid the dangerous cold.

More than 220 million Americans are experiencing below-freezing temperatures across the lower-48 states, according to meteorologist Ryan Maue. About 26 million people are living with temperatures at or below -20 degrees.

Nye also told Matthews rural Americans have been “hoodwinked” into believing getting rid of fossil fuels would hurt the economy.

“I claim that the people in rural areas are affected perhaps even more than people in urban areas, and they’ve been hoodwinked,” Nye said. “They’ve been led astray by this group of like-minded people who feel that the economic effects of getting away from fossil fuels are going to be catastrophic, but that is just simply not true.”

However, coal and natural gas are providing roughly 80 percent of the electricity needed to keep the power and heat on in the Midwest, according to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator that manages the grid.

As a novice fruit grower I know that peach and nectarine trees don’t survive temperatures of minus 30 F; at that point the trunks split and the tree dies. Is Bill Nye aware that Canada is synonymous with the Polar Vortex? I’ve also heard that the frost line in Canada is moving progressively south every year, reducing the area in which grain can grow! I’ve never been impressed with Bill’s acumen in science (he’s an engineer by training) and now even less impressed with his grasp of agronomy and geography!

Dos this mean that Mexico will have to move its agriculture North to the US? If not, why not?

What an ignorant man he is…….

We grow a lot of cool summer crops in warm to hot summer regions, Potato is a fine example of a cool summer loving plant, yet can grow in Eastern Washington state where hot is the normal summer average.

He should stick to what he does best, make other ignorant warmists look smart compared to him.

Hi Alan Macrae
Our Vancouver “Sir John ” dinner on January 11, had Murphy as the speaker.
His first ten minutes were off the cuff and very funny. Best speaker we have had.
On the threat of dictatorships now:
Decent people in decent counties have intervened to end Europe’s dreadful experiments in authoritarian government.
Examples in the early 1800s, 1914 and 1939 were fronted by military dictatorships. As was the continuing nemesis of Communist dictatorships.
I’ve used Gell-Mann’s definition of a totalitarian system and have applied it to politics:
“That which is not compulsory is prohibited.”
The enemy now to freedom and prosperity is no longer military dictatorships.
It is the Welfare Dictatorship.
And it will be difficult to defeat.

Tom
yes,
I think the climate distortionists – claiming man is to blame for climate change – will win it in the end, especially when the world food crisis will reach its highest point during the latter half of the nexr decade due to the droughts in the north of America and Europe.
Their aim is a world government

He has no clue about agriculture and various varieties of corn, wheat, sorghum, etc. I doubt he can tell you that as global temps get higher, what changes, night time lows or daytime highs. That can make a HUGE difference in growing seasons.

Likewise, does he really think CAGW is going to occur in the next five years? How long would it take to expand the interstate highway to carry the new products? If the temps increase 2 degrees in the next 50 years I suspect we would have plenty of time build the required infrastructure and probably new grain varieties so we wouldn’t need the infrastructure.

For the 2020 election the Republicans should put no one on stage and just allow the democrats debate among themselves. The Republican slogan could be, “Our candidate is not one of these people”.

Would someone please tell Bill Nye that last night, in parts of Canada it was -46C. Plants don’t grow in those temperatures.

Most already don’t know what a vegetable is. Sauce on pizza is a vegetable to them. I like buying frozen vegetables and have noticed that section of the grocery store shrink over the years. It’s been taken over by junk food, and vegetables with sauces and/or pastas.

As for Nye, I’m curious as to why he thinks the US should worry about feeding the world if what he claims will happen ever did come true. At that point the US would be facing famine, screw the rest of the world, feed your own first.

Considering the crap some of the more obese kids currently consume (instead of a healthy balanced & nutritious diet), I’d say some of them already don’t know what a vegetable is.

“Nye also told Matthews rural Americans have been “hoodwinked” into believing getting rid of fossil fuels would hurt the economy.”

Wow, that statement is so ignorantly false!! I can’t even begin to describe the levels of abject lying Bill Nye is making in that statement. I suppose it is his way to understand why rural America is mostly Red America, apparently been “hoodwinked” from his bigoted view.

Maybe he should wonder where his food comes from? Maybe he should actually visit farming operations across America and see how food is actually grown, using machines that use lots of diesel, propane, and gas. And using modern ammonium-based fertilizers made from natural gas. The man is so ignorant and a major league liar. It really is breathtaking. But then I suppose having him on Chris Matthews feeds the utterly ignorant audience that watches his show.

Bill Nye, the TV scientist, proved the limited capabilities of carbon dioxide on the Seattle sketch comedy show, “Almost Live.” Now, he thinks it is a magical component of the atmosphere, capable of doing just about anything. (Bill Nye – Almost Live 1990)

In think Canad already has roads and railroads and airports. In any case, here’s a wild idea. If you need more roads or railroads, or airports because you need to transport more goods, then build them!

I’m sure Bill Nye, the “science” guy, thinks roads and railroads and airports have been here since the Earth was formed and we have to make do with what we have. But isn’t that some sort of denial?

Ferdberple

Nye displays an ignorance about Canada that Americans are famous for.

To set the record straight: In Canada we grow different crops than the US because our climate is colder. For 3 seasons we grow ice, and in summer we grow flies and mosquitoes. When conditions are favorable we can get a pretty good crop of rocks popping up due to frost heave.

All our agricultural production takes place within sight of the US border so we can get our crops to market. Our road, railway and airport is filled to overflowing with American celebrities moving to Canada to escape Trump Derangement Syndrome.

The Trudeau government plans to add an extra lane to our road to handle the legal weed production. Luckily spraying the illegal weed with red tape has killed the legal market, leaving surplus capacity to transport 3 barrels of Alberta oil.

Without the Great Wall of Ice along Canada’s Arctic frontier, the US would have been overrun by Russians posting on Facebook and Twitter during the War of 1812.

[Thanks for the laugh. Excellent! -mod]

I once learned that the Canadians harvest crushed ice in mid-winter (i.e. 364 days annually) to be well prepared for their one day summer. They were said to put it into their longdrinks for which they import fruits worth $1 bn from Fla. just for that special day. Do they really call it Boozeau-Day?

Is it any wonder that thinking laymen do not trust the pronouncements of “science” people like Bill Nye? And we ALL should be skeptical, scientists especially now more than ever – when there is so much nonsense being spouted about “global warming” or “climate change” or whatever they call it – it is just WEATHER and NATURAL VARIABILITY although I do realize we’ve been warming for 10-12,000 years, and the more than mile-thick glaciers melted and made the sea levels rise over 400 feet or so – and the oceans continue to rise even though Obama promised he’d stop them, something less than 1/8″ per year or about 1′ per century with no signs of acceleration…

What computer model is there that accurately reflects this warming occurring since about 10,000 years ago? And that shows the many ups and downs that occurred since then some lasting for several centuries? Why do so many supposedly smart people place so much faith in computer models to begin with, especially when they don’t match reality? Inquiring minds want to know…

I wouldn’t recommend invading through Cape Breton (technically Nova Scotia, but as Capers say, Nova Scotia is an island off the coast of Cape Breton…): they will be taken into the kitchen, fed oat cakes and tea until they burst, then subjected to hours of fiddle music until they head back to the US…

Cape Breton fiddle music was banned as a weapon of mass destruction under the terms of the Geneva Convention of 1949.

Having already laid waste to large sections of the Canadian Maritimes, it is unlikely the region will be habitual again for tens of thousands of years.

Actually, I think that was Cape Breton Gaelic.

Although, compared to Welsh Gaelic, its almost tolerable. You could tame a small desert with the amount of spit you need for Welsh…

There’s at least a 20 degree difference between the southern border and the northern border.
Yet a 2 or 3 degree change is going to make growing crops impossible?
Does this charlatan ever stop to think about what he is being paid to say?
As to the economic damage going to renewables cause, that has already been documented.
