TO STOP CLIMATE CHANGE, EDUCATE GIRLS AND GIVE THEM BIRTH CONTROL
CLIMATE CHANGE IS a ubiquitous hydra, a many-headed beast that affects everyone and everything in some form. Solutions to climate change range from the effective and the practical to the potentially catastrophically dangerous—but, in this somewhat heated debate, a potent weapon in our arsenal is falling by the wayside: the empowerment of women.
Last year a coalition of scientists, economists, policymakers, researchers, and business people published Project Drawdown, a compendium of ways to prevent carbon dioxide from escaping skywards. Drawing from a plethora of peer-reviewed research, the document ranks 80 practical, mitigating measures—along with 20 near-future concepts—that could push back the oncoming storm.
Ranked in order of carbon emissions locked down by 2050, the usual suspects made the list. A moderate expansion of solar farms (number 8), onshore wind turbines (number 2), and nuclear power (number 20) would all save tens of billions of tons of equivalent carbon dioxide emissions. Increasing the number of people on plant-rich diets (number 4) and using electric vehicles (number 26) are effective carbon-cutting measures often proposed by climate hawks, and rightly so. The top spot went to managing refrigerants like HFCs, which are incredibly effective at trapping heat within our atmosphere.
But two lesser-known solutions also made this most practical of lists: the education of girls (number 6) and family planning (number 7). This is a stunning revelation, one that couldn’t be more pertinent, and yet, for the most part, discussions of mitigation and de-carbonization focus heavily on other matters, from the perceived perils and bona fide benefits of nuclear power, to just how quickly solar power is proliferating.

I agree a lot of backward poor country countries could be drastically improved with Western education. One of the reasons places like Afghanistan are such a mess, is parents are desperate to educate their kids – but in too many cases, the only people offering that educational “opportunity” are crazy people.
Telling the recipients that more education will cause their tribe to wither for the sake of the planet is not the way to sell Western education services. They are not the fools some Westerners seem to think they are – uneducated doesn’t mean stupid.

Asteroid Mining
Seems two ideas have been thrown up. (pun ?)
One is to get minerals from an asteroid and carry them to the Moon or to Mars. Count me as a no-show on a base waiting for the arrival.
Two is to find a valuable asteroid – Eric mentions Platinum @ur momisugly 7:02 pm – and bring it back to Earth in a controlled manner.
I found this list:
Most asteroids fit into three basic categories:
C-type – More than 75 percent of known asteroids fit into this category. The composition of C-type asteroids is similar to that of the sun without the hydrogen, helium and other volatiles.
S-type – About 17 percent of asteroids are this type. These contain deposits of nickel, iron and magnesium.
M-type – A small number of asteroids are this type, and they contain nickel and iron.
Are there mostly pure asteroid of Platinum or Gold? If so, the references are few.
The things in the above list are not worth the effort. They are found on Earth.
If one wants to bring a major mass of something to Earth it seems there ought to be many such to work with. That would be N per year, where N is not near zero.
Tell me the companies that are investing in this so I can divest.
They don’t have to be pure. If the concentration is similar to what is being mined on earth, then the economics is there.
The other metals you can mine while extracting the platinum just pads the bottom line.
Show me some numbers.
How many asteroids have a high value composition?
When spotted, where is it in relation to Earth?
How long do you have to get there with equipment to (a) mine it, or (b) attach propulsion.
During the time ‘a’ or ‘b’ requires, how far does the asteroid move?
How much mass are you expecting to bring back.
How is this done in a controlled manner, so as to not produce a Tunguska event?
I can think of a dozen other issues.
Female education and birth control may reduce diaper change but they don’t have a popsicle’s chance in hell of ‘stopping climate change’.
Whatever your theory on climate change is, you’re obviously right.
On the other hand, education does no big harm. It will increase emissions per capita, but it could stop the population growth…
It’s truly bizarre to hear people complain about the future. People today enjoy lives of ease and luxury that even the kings and queens of centuries past could not imagine.
That didn’t happen by accident, people have improved the world generation after generation. There is no reason to believe that will stop happening now or in the future.
People improve that world, more people improve the world more. The surest way to make humanity miserable is to announce that we have topped out and the resources we have today are a pie that we all need to divide up. This leads people to behave irrationally and take on a bunker mentality that leads to breakdowns and shortages that never would have occurred otherwise.
+1
Those complainers consider other humans to be threats to them, for some reason.
They believe that those other people are using stuff that they want.
As the scary global warming fraud unravels the rent seekers will whine for a few years then drift off to greener pastures and the population control agenda will have no where to hide .
You finish with
“uneducated doesn’t mean stupid”.
I have found some very well educated people who you dare not let loose with anything practical as you know it would end in disaster also I have met those who look down their noses at anyone who has not been through higher education ( indoctrination some might say) they get very upset when you can easily poke holes in their pet ideas of how the world works.
James Bull
One of my twin daughters wanted to become a (large animal = rare) veterinarian.
She was going to run up a debt of minimum £105,000 to get that degree.
What would be the chances of her paying that back AND while rearing 2 or 3 kids?
She’s have to farm them out to someone else – they’d get to 5 years old afflicted with Kwashkior and be addicted to sugar. I bought my first house in 1983 – 45mins door-to-door from the Lloyd’s Building in London and cost £24,000

The stench of greed and cronyism is overpowereing.
Seemingly and maybe 3 or 4 years ago here in the UK, some mathematics teachers (of the 16 & 17 year olds) were shown almost the exact maths examination paper that I sat when I was 17.
To them, it looked like hieroglyphics from Planet Zog
The ‘Pass Mark’ for maths (age 16) here in UK is now 15% (as reported by BBC)
For most exams now, multiple choice, a blind monkey could/should get at least 25 or 33%
So you are intelligent and rich are you?
Does not almost all your money simply exist as numbers in a remote computer?
What if someone switched that computer off or asked it to send it all to their bank account.
Did not the recently bankrupt government in Greece do exactly that?
So you buy into electric cars – will there be much choice soon?
Just like your money-in-the-bank – electric cars are going to be such a soft & easy target for switching off, going slow, range & location impairment.
But you’re really intelligent and can handle that right?
How? Call someone on your cell phone?
What if someone ‘does an Apple’ and disables your phone, like they just did your money and your car?
So you retire home, to the money-efficient and electrically dependant ‘castle’
Oh yeah. With a Smart Meter reporting your every Joule usage and entirely capable of disabling that?
Maybe you make it to ripe old age and need ‘care’
You certainly will because a lifetime of eating cabbages will have turned you into one.
If none of the previous calamities have befallen you, the costs of the Cronyfied care home system will clean you right out financially.
And because all of the home-grown kids, what few there are, are sooooo intelligent and well educated, they won’t want to be the nurses and carers in those places. Mangers & supervisors maybe but they won’t get their hands dirty will they?
You you rely on immigrants, as from Poland here and now in the UK (Mexico maybe for the US?)
Buy say one one word and they up sticks and go home don’t they. As the Polish are doing here right now because of Brexit.
Get my drift yet?
There is only really One Thing that government cannot take away from you and that is: Your Own Kids.
And lookee here – it is EXACTLY what they want to do and in fact what we’re doing to ourselves – safe in the Magically Thought out bubble that says we are so intelligent and clever we don’t even need kids anymore.
Simply incredible.
Put down the beer glass, the whiskey tumbler, throw out the bread-bin and biscuit-barrel, stay away from the Pizza Hut and ffs people: Wake Up
Apols for the errant grammer and spelling – but you get my drift.
As always: If any pedants do feel inspired – maybe check in a mirror first, in case there’s anything green & leafy looking back at you
The entire tone and quality of the article being quoted is that of Pravda style propaganda.
How pathetic and uninformative.
Empowerment of women, education of girls, and birth control availability are all feel-good, virtue-signaling “solutions” to a non-problem. Smug, well-off people in ivory towers love coming up with these things. In the end, though, if the goal is to help eliminate human suffering, then raising standards of living is the only solution, but even that can’t be done until you have democratic forms of government. Ah, but eliminating human suffering isn’t the goal of these self-important Warmunists, there’s the rub. Quite the opposite in fact.
In reality, what the world needs isn’t population control, they need coal-burning power plants. Those coal-burning power plants can power air-conditioned schools and hospitals, office buildings and computers, and a higher standard of living. Without it, we will continue to have uneducated people with high birth rates. It doesn’t do any good to tell a family not to have more children, when those children are needed to cut wood for the family fire, and replace the child that died in the cobalt mine working for an electric car battery company.
Junk Science Draft UN Climate Report: Poor People Will be Hit Worst
Over 150 years ago oil was discovered in America. Its discovery resulted in the end of the whaling industry, the development of the automobile and tractor, and a greatly increased standard of living for the American people. That fuel, along with coal, was later used to power the industrial behemoth that was later used to defeat … Continue reading

I agree, educating women, especially in science would greatly help. To start, they should start by educating these so-called “500 Women Scientists.” who wrote the nonsense published in Scientific America.
Deplorable Climate Scientists Have Destroyed Credibility of Science
Here at CO2isLife we have always maintained that CAGW isn’t a scientific issue, it is a political issue. Science is an unbiased, impartial, objective, blind and unbelievably politically incorrect process. Science is the search for truth, no matter how ugly, racist, sexist, homophobic or politically inconvenient it may be. The facts don’t give a damn if you … Continue reading

My new trigger for “I Stopped Reading at…” is:
Note the present tense.
Now if they are talking about NATURAL Climate Change they may have a point. But natural climate change has always affected everyone in some way or another. Their solutions would of course do nothing to impact natural extreme weather events.
However if they are talking about extreme weather from CAGW, it hasn’t happened yet; and any fear of future impacts are based on models that have yet to produce a verified prediction.
I agree that increasing prosperity through the availability affordable energy (currently fossil fuels) and educating females, the population of underdeveloped countries would decrease. But that has nothing to do with Global Warming.
Good point. That ‘climate change’ ‘affects everyone’ has become a part of a certain canon, while it is totally wrong in the meaning it is said. This is pretty much what religions and other ‘isms do. They redefine words in a manner that truisms of natural language becomes key pillars of the religious speech. In order to dissect them, you need to handle the two different meanings separately, often at the price of lengthiness.
I’m pretty certain ‘climate change’ doesn’t ‘affect’ me, but clearly politicians pushing premature mitigation have an effect on many things, like for example, the price of a plastic bag.
The only thing you ever need to go to when people start getting over-excited on population is this video by Hans Rosling:
https://www.gapminder.org/videos/dont-panic-the-facts-about-population/
The loss of this man will be felt around the world and sensible people need to keep repeating his messages.
+1 for linking Hans Rosling.
Takeaway: forget Ehrlich, Club of Rome, deep-extreme ‘ecologists’. Everything is better than ever was, and becoming better.
Jo Nova shows the higher female education, the greater the CO2/capita.

“Telling the recipients that more education will cause their tribe to wither for the sake of the planet is not the way to sell Western education services. ”
Gee, I didn’t know that was part of the sales pitch. No wonder people leave their girls ignorant if that’s what happens to a tribe.
“Western” education? Is that where they teach kids that Europeans are superior, and that colonialism never happened?
Whom you fool? It was a sales pitch of Western education. Not a lesson in Xhosa poetry.
