How a climate change play got Bolt and Breitbart News hot under the collar

Playwright David Finnigan has a slew of conservative commentators to thank for reshaping his new play Kill Climate Deniers.

The provocative play centres on a militant cell of eco-activists who take the audience hostage during a concert at Parliament House. Led by charismatic spokeswoman Catch, they demand Australia immediately cease all carbon emissions and coal exports – or they’ll start executing their 1700 hostages. The embattled Environment Minister has no choice but to pick up a gun and stand up for her ideals.
Such was the controversy around the play’s performance in the nation’s capital a few years back it had to be cancelled.
“It completely blew up,” recalls Finnigan. “I was getting messages from Americans in Kansas and Idaho who had seen his criticism through Fox TV so we had to cancel moving ahead. There was too much risk – the Abbott government had just introduced new legislation around anti-terrorism and we thought it was too risky – we didn’t want to reignite a culture war,” he said.

“It’s really only politicians and some members of the media who deny climate change these days … this is a way to keep the climate change conversation going in an imaginitive and fictional way – it asks the audience to think about what sort of world they want to be living in 30 years from now,” he says.

What can I say? The kind of people who think a climate video which features exploding schoolchildren is funny likely also have no problem seeing the “provocative” side of a fantasy gun hostage situation – as long as the fictional threat of violence is aimed at their political opponents.
The following is a short mock news video produced by “Kill Climate Deniers” author David Finnigan, which fantasises about the aftermath of real terrorists inspired by his script attacking Australia’s parliament and taking hostages.

I’m a bit lost. Would the not breathing apply to just humans? Or would animals have to comply also?
I’m forced to the conclusion that many of the Climate Faithful truly belive that ‘Carbon’ really is a pollutant that only comes from Fossil Fuels, and that you can see it come from the exhaust as smoke. It’s the only thing that explains some of the crazy things they say.
Remember, these are the same people who often think ‘cemicals’ are artificially made poisons, and ‘Organic’ means ‘contains no cemicals’.
Hold it Dave, plants Give off CO2 at night, so it looks like the hostages are toast to me.
I can’t imagine sitting through this in a theater, let alone paying to do so.
I’m sure this kind of theater would have been quite acceptable in pre-WW2 Germany, though. Of course the enemies would be a different faction of the population.
They count polluting the earth with Cu, which is a poison for trees, as organic!
As the more rational of us know the change in the Sun Cycle from 24 to 25 is already having an effect. Throw in the reduction of Sun Spots. and the influence of Cosmic Rays then there certainly is Climate Change…but not one that corresponds to what the “Warrmers” are thinking.
With CO2 being 4,500ppm 500 million years agio then Planet Earth is a somewhat more difficult problem to assess than the current 390 ppm which apparently thinks we are doomed.
It’s currently about 410 ppm. Starting in May, pCO2 will decrease this summer to about 405 before heading back up.
Its just another extreme form of the intellectual fascism promoted by people like David Suzuki calling for government to “Deny the Deniers the Right to Deny”

It’s been done as a big budget movie called Kingsman. Only the eco terrorist is the bad guy.
You know, that’s what gets me most about this. How do you make a play, movie, whatever that involves a group taking hostages and threatening to kill them if their clearly impossible demands aren’t meet, and NOT have them be the bad guys?
It’s the same thing that made the 10/10 video so inexplicable. There’s just no way to make their actions seem reasonable. You don’t convince anyone you’re right by proving your willing to do anything to get your way.
No one is impressed by a fanatic’s devotion except otherlike minded fanatics.
Maybe then people will realize that the whole climate change issue is satire.
Maybe Finnigan thought his message was that anyone who disagrees with his views should be slaughtered, but I see it in a different way.
I see this insane (by our standards) proposal as a warning that none of us should take our freedoms, our rights and our liberty for granted. It can be leached right from under us if we don’t pay attention. Look at it as a wakeup call: it happened in Paris in 1798; Russian 1915 – 1917; Germany 1930s, Cambodia 1963; Venezuela 2013.
Snap out of it, and understand just how dangerous these people really are. If you don’t, you will lose and wonder what happened.
Yup. And is why the US Second Amendment is SO important. Not that we want to own M1 tanks or F16s. Just effective local deterrents to ANTIFA and such. Very effective terminal deterrents.

Meh. It’s more of the same: just another way to cash in on the CAGW swindle, this time by selling theatre tickets. I’m sure the theatre (lights, HVAC, snack bar, etc.) runs on 100% renewables. Oh, and the patrons, actors and assorted unionize support staff will arrive on foot only, no fossil-fueled transportation allowed of course.

If you can’t kill the truth, your next best option is to kill the speaker. Intimidation is so much easier than rational discusion, especially when you have to debate from a position of emotion rather than reason and fact.
The whole premise seems so contrived for heated controversy.
Let’s see now, what can I write a play about that will really shock and interest people? … oh, I know … a play about holding the IPCC hostage, threatening to kill everybody, unless they learn some real facts.
Kill Climate Idiots
The purpose of my play is to capture the plight of marginalized scientists, who symbolically find their collective voice via employing tactics of their harshest critics, taking a public stance in a high-profile, socio-politico-economico scam-fest architectural edifice, where global benevolence is subverted to pursue global domination in the guise of “saving the planet”, blah, blah, blah, bulls**t, blah, blah, … more art-speak, manifesto crap, … you get the idea.
Now that could make a good play.
Given that the Democrat party just tried to steal an election and then unseat a sitting President using the DOJ, FBI and possibly the NSA, and the CIA leadership with false evidence, illegal surveillance and false Russian information. I will keep my firearms thank you.
And people said the plot of Shadow Complex was unrealistic. Ha! It was maybe a little too on the nose, given Antifa and this loon.
Once they are deemed unworthy, inconvenient, or profitable, a-bort them, a-bort them NOW, a-bort them all. Send them to the a-bortion chambers. It works at the beginning and end of human evolution, and it can work throughout to reduce the anthropogenic footprint.
I predict this will end badly for the schizophrenic reality-denying anti-science eco-wackos… they’re attempting to legitimize murder and denial of rights as a means of achieving their socialist ends.

when the world’s populace finally realizes that the whole CO2 scam was merely a vehicle for the humanity-hating anti-capitalist socialists to push their depopulation / deindustrialization plans while enriching a select few, a means for them to push through legislation that otherwise would have zero chance of being passed…
when the world’s populace realize that right at the time when their leaders should have been preparing for and telling people to prepare for extended periods of brutal cold, they were instead squandering resources on pie-in-the-sky schemes that destabilized electrical grids and greatly increased the cost of food…
and when that populace starts chopping the heads of those pushing this lie, and denying the right to speak against reality to those sheeple who were gullible enough to go along with the CO2-scammers…
well… have they any basis for complaint when their own tactics are used against them?
Related to the public debate.
A prestigious debate between three climate science experts (including Gavin Spit) and three deniers (including Lindzen and novelist Michael Crichton). I seem to remember that similar debates were conducted worldwide in places like Oxford and Harvard to highly educated audiences.
The so called experts lost because they were so arrogant they thought they could simply tell lies, sneer at the opposition and get away with it. They didn’t realise that both the audience and deniers were considerably more intellectually capable than they were.

Alarmists don’t want debate because they will lose. The Inquisition was invented to enforce the dogma and persecute the heretics. Change “dogma” to “consensus” and “heretics” to “deniers” and here we are.
Why debate Galileo when you can arrest him for heresy?
Gavin Schmidt accused Dick Lindzen of lying in that debate. Lindzen had a few words to say about it, at the end.
Gavin, who has unfailingly supported Michael Mann, has no appreciation of the bitter irony involved when he accuses someone else of lying.
The ongoing efforts of the reality manipulators have created a collective and shared delusion that is self-sustaining. Sadly, even intelligent minds are not immune to this crowd-think. The entertainment industry has joined pseudo-science as a paid political tool and it’s usually subtle, but this one stoops to the pits of violent intimidation and may just trigger some crazies.

You lost me there…first you mention “intelligent minds” then you mention “The entertainment industry”. I don’t see the connection.
But some TV shows have good description of so academia people, focused on tiny details, having often useless “culture”, clueless about many real world facts.
I like the TV show “The Big Bang Theory”. I think episode “The Prestidigitation Approximation” is quite realistic.
Episode “Bear Bad” in Buffy the Vampire Slayer is good too.
In The Simpsons, the (“non canon” ie out of the ordinary narration) episode about Marge Bouvier’s past, when she was a univ student in love of a prof is good too.

Who commissioned the picture to be created?
This not an isolated incident, and you’ll find many paintings of such atrocities. Some are from the artist who recognises the import of such public events, and records it for history. But many are commissioned by the Church for their own records.
Further; these events are done in the public square to demonstrate clearly to everybody the consequences of heresy.
Who are they kidding? We haz the guns! And the President…

Threatening violence is just more evidence that the Alarmists think they are losing the CAGW argument. They are getting desperate.
The Church of Omnipotent Greenhouse In Carbon seems to be increasingly militant in their mission of global conversion. Winning by elimination seems to be the ultimate goal.
Is that the same crowd that claimed that ads featuring a bullseye on a map (*) was encouraging gun violence against politicians and resulted in one Democrat being attacked by a gunman?

She quotes the lyric “you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone” crediting Fleetwood Mac.
The words are from the song Big Yellow Taxi written by Joni Mitchell covered by many groups but not Fleetwood Mac.
