Get a load of this. We’ve all heard the usual hate-speech that climate skeptics should be “locked up” for having an alternate opinion.
But, did you ever think you’d see something as ridiculous as this in the NYT?
…inmates generally consume less than an average citizen in the country, so fewer prisoners might mean higher overall energy consumption.
Additionally, the money saved from reducing crime would go into the government’s budget and people’s pockets. All that money could be spent in other ways — infrastructure, buildings or goods — that may require more energy to produce or operate, possibly adding more greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.

In other words, if we’re all locked up, that’s good! Smaller carbon footprint!! More criminals running free means more GHG’s. Perhaps this will quell the mentally aberrant thinking of California Governor Jerry Brown, who wants to release even more criminals -both violent and non-violent.

Crime doesn’t pay; Clime, on the other hand does.
Crime pays, getting caught doesn’t.
Surely by the time any penal “reform” can be put into action , Pres Clinton will have achieved her ambition to make the US a 100% renewables nation , so that the economic activity of its residents will be equally carbon free whether they are incarcerated or not .
In fact if economic activity is greater outside prisons than within , and that activity requires power from renewable sources (which involve subsidies to the select few) then it is in the interest of the subsidy farming sector to close down the prisons, More activity = more power use = more subsidy , No?
If enough American Citizens are so totally dumb as to vote that lying crook into the White House ” so as to be a part of history “, then I’m afraid we totally deserve what we will be about to receive.
When I hear about all of the purportedly intelligent people who have already voted (twice) to have been a part of the “History of The United States of America”, well we won’t have enough room to engrave all of your names onto the gravestone of freedom; but we will never forget what you did, and what you are almost as surely going to do to us again.
I never really thought I could possibly watch the fall of the United States of America, before I go and join all the lawyers around the fires of hell; but it is looking increasingly likely all the same.
Those who get all of the free stuff, at no cost to them, tend to value it at that same valuation.
The ghosts of the Mayflower will come back to haunt us for failing to learn their nearly catastrophic lesson about collectivism, versus free enterprise.

It is possible that this is the silliest study ever conducted.
That’s in line with lunatics who claim Cuba’s broken economy is “carbon friendly”
Actually, according to Bill McKibben, formerly of 350 org, the Cubans’ diet and economy is semi-sustainable.
What is the Cuban diet?
“According to my Mexican friends, ordinary Cubans are not allowed to eat beef. Instead, what beef there is in Cuba is reserved for the nation’s rulers and for tourists who can pay for it with foreign exchange while staying at the all-inclusive resort hotels.
It is in fact illegal to sell beef to a Cuban — not that any of them outside the ruling class would be able to buy much, since the average wage in Cuba is about 50 cents per day, or one-tenth of the minimum legal wage in Mexico. With this pittance, Cubans must subsist on the subsidized rations made available to them by the government. These comprise 5 pounds of rice, 5 pounds of sugar, 1 pound of salt, 10 ounces of beans, 8 ounces of cooking oil, 0.15 ounces of coffee mixed with unknown stuff that isn’t coffee, 6 ounces of very-low-quality fish, and 1 pound of a disgusting product made from unsalable animal parts, per month. No fruits or vegetables are included.
I repeat: These rations are not free, but must be paid for, with the total bill consuming most of a Cuban’s monthly salary. This leaves almost nothing to spend on additional food, which is available on the black market or in “dollar stores,” where reasonably good food, donated by Western aid agencies, is sold at (non-Cuban) supermarket prices to foreigners or government elites holding dollars or euros.”

But then again, perhaps carbon-friendly is the same as semi-sustainable. I would rather talk about secondary sewage treatments than about what the meanings of these terms are!
One almost expects the elitists to admit that they want to exterminate everyone except themselves and some useful workers (slaves). If they were not so set on virtue signaling with their opposition to the death penalty, they would be calling for mass executions.
For now, they settle for promoting abortion on an industrial scale. Look at all the praise China got for its forced abortion policy and preventing all those nasty humans from being born. When the government announced they were changing the policy, there were leftists decrying the effect on “humanity” and Gaia. Their humanity is the decent person’s inhumanity.
Wow, just ask Marie Antoinette how that kind of thinking turned out.
Is history even taught in college anymore ?
Get an education before you start spending other peoples money.
“Is history even taught in college anymore ?”
No, silly. Where’ve you been?
Never mind prisons. How about slavery? Just think of how much less energy per person they’d use. And think of all the money it would save, which could be put to good use building more bird-and-bat choppers and zappers.
Slavery now! Think of the children.
Bruce Cobb wrote: “Never mind prisons. How about slavery?”
(H.R. slaps forehead) Why not? No sacrifice is too great to save the planet! But let’s make it voluntary servitude, shall we? I’ll put up a website where people can sign up. Naturally, one would expect the
profiteersleaders of the efforts to ‘save the planet’ to sign up first. They can start by pulling all of the weeds along I-95, starting in Florida, and they will be permitted to keep and eat any of the weeds they pull. Of course they will be issued scissors to trim the grass while taking care of the weeds.http://www.shopbecker.com/school-and-office-supplies/desk-supplies/_/fiskars-preschool-scissors/
(Ya’ll please excuse me while I go start negotiations with the State of Florida for the Interstate Highway mowing contract. I think they will like my bid.)
The labor participation rate would skyrocket and Obama would finally have a great legacy, de-industrialization and the re-institution of slavery.
……inmates generally consume less than an average citizen in the country, so fewer prisoners might mean higher overall energy consumption….
I’d certainly like to see the data for this.
If I lived in a large building with continuous guards, heating and lighting, I would have thought the per capita energy requirement would be greater, not less. The fact that an individual prisoner might not use much energy is minor – the total system uses a LOT…
Now that is fantastic. I mean the dead consume even less than inmates so……lol. un-freaking believable. Lol.
Kind of weird to be living during the end of western civilization.
The article is obviously a spoof. The main conclusion from its reasoning is “Lock up more criminals.” Since that is the opposite of the PC belief system (Let every crook roam free), the spoof is by one of us. Either that or they are stark raving bonkers.
Anthony, it’s the main stream that’s fascist :

The lunatics are in the hall ………. there is absolutely no way the premise stands up to any scrutiny.
She’s “MAD”.
There’s always some Gauleiter of Hamburg asking ‘why just starve them to dead. ‘

P.S. I really appreciate your comments. I sometimes have to work hard to get your meaning, but it’s usually worth it. I confess that I don’t get the meaning of some of your comments, but most of the time your point is clear. Thank you for your comments.
Back in the day…. Rose Mary Kennedy (JFK’s sister), they solved the delusional problems with a frontal lobotomy (very nasty). Lobotomies are no longer medically ethical. Probably why we have an epidemic of liberal lunatics in US society compared to 60 years ago. Rational people realized back in the day there was something not right with some people, and they lobotomized them or institutionalized them.
au contraire mon frere. Check this out http://discovermagazine.com/1997/oct/lobotomysback1240. It’s a dream world for progressives.
I think our warmist friends are not really taking advantage of the situation. They could use the time spent in prison to brainwash the inmates to become better citizens. They could even encourage prison time for younger criminals to start the process early too!
Quick! Tell President Obama to stop commuting all those sentences. Tell Congress to stop weakening drug laws! Enlist the aid of John Kerry, who thinks “Climate Change” is a bigger threat than Islamic jihad. He ought to be frantic!
Look on the bright side – when you stop jailing people for actual crimes….. their cells can be filled with imaginary criminals like climate skeptics. Win/win for the progressives.

“In other words, if we’re all locked up, that’s good! Smaller carbon footprint!! More criminals running free means more GHG’s.’
On one hand it suggests that but then it seems to contradict it saying that less crime might be good for the economy resulting in more GHG
These kind of people are so crazy that they cannot make up their mind – probably because they do not have one.
Anthony. I was surprised to see to see an ad for the South African government’s Department of Environment Affairs on this WUWT post. While it is exuberant about conserving rhinos, this department is also besotted by carbonophobia, and is pushing for the introduction of a carbon tax in this population- and job-stressed country. I know Word press sells advertising, but is there no say over what appears on WUWT? It is also telling that a government department can see fit to use public money to advertise on a skeptic blog! Why?
I have no control over ads, and since you were viewing from Africa, you got local advertising….
