UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has named the red bird, from the blockbuster game franchise “Angry Birds”, as the new honorary ambassador for the International Day of Happiness.

18 March 2016 – The United Nations today appointed Red, the leader of the “Angry Birds” mobile game characters, as an envoy to inspire climate action toward a sustainable and happier future for all.

Red’s appointment, as Honorary Ambassador for Green, is part of a UN campaign launched today in partnership with the globally renowned characters to make a direct link between tackling climate change and people’s happiness and well-being on the occasion of the International Day of Happiness to be observed on Sunday, 20 March.

“The Angry Birds have entertained millions of people around the world – and now they are part of making the world a better place,” said Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at a launch event at UN Headquarters in New York.

We are proud to give Red a reason to go Green,” he said. “There is no better way to mark the International Day of Happiness than to have our animated ambassador raise awareness about the importance of addressing climate change to create a safer, more sustainable and happier future for all.”

There is no news about how UN Climate Ambassador Leonardo DiCaprio feels about the new appointment, whether he is concerned the appointment of Red will overshadow his own role. Perhaps DiCaprio is as disappointed as I am with the UN decision – I think it would have been far more appropriate, if the honorary appointment had been awarded to Goofy.

United Nations – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon appointed the Angry Birds character Red an Honorary Ambassador for Green on the International Day of Happiness. Jason Sudeikis, Maya Rudolph, and Josh Gad – some of the stars behind the upcoming animated film The Angry Birds Movie – attended a red carpet event at UN Headquarters where they asked a young audience for their support to the campaign by doing their part to make a difference on climate change.

Once again, commenters (and in this case the author of the article) don’t plumb the depths of what this is. It decidedly ain’t funny^TM (GP). This is unmistakenly another angle to brainwash children by feeding them cartoon IPCC bull. The creators of the character will jump right into it as a business decision (what an indorsement). Remember I had to remind everyone that the ‘amusing’ video by Mann, Mears, etc. which harpooned satellite temperatures and vilified Christy and Spencer was not ‘funny’, that it was deadly seriously a preparation for jacking up satellite temperatures at RSS and diverging from their “incompetent” UAH competitors. That is exactly what happened. It was a “tell” in the poker sense after the main card played by Tom Karl in the karlization of global temperatures. Please, folks, don’t think any apparently silly or serious step is taken by these people for no strategic reason!!

Ridicule and mockery are perfectly acceptible, and potent weapons to use against them. They certainly provide us with plenty of ammo!

Gary makes a very valid point. Fortunately my three youngest grandkids no longer are into the angry birds scene. Their parents will be notified of what is happening. Think about what “bambi” did to young minds. Then move on to “smokey” the bear. Using kids’ symbols is a well-established method of propaganda. Time for some billboards showing “Red” getting sliced and diced, or fried.

Exactly! “Happiness for All™” is frightening as well as spectacularly ironic!

You just cannot parody these people beyond what they have done themselves. Like birds do so well with wind turbines? Maybe that’s why the bird is angry.

“The UN was not created to take mankind to heaven, but to save humanity from hell.”
— Dag Hammarskjöld, Secretary-General from 1953 to 1961
United Nations has come out of line with its charter, and is turning into a propaganda machine for it´s unelected megalomaniacal bureaucrats:
“This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for the, at least, 150 years, since the industrial revolution,”
– Christiana Figueres, who heads up the U.N.’s Framework Convention on Climate Change
I can think of a few others who had personal ideas about bringing about huge changes to our society. It didn´t always turn out well.
Who voted for Christina Figueres by the way? None!:
“Ban Ki-moon, the head of the UN, reached out his hand and appointed her to that prominent position on the world’s stage.”
And that is quite remarkable – as the United Nations is also concerned about human rights, which states:
Article 21. (3) The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures.
I would not have voted for Christina Figueres.

Well, Angry Bird might be a step up for the UN’s marking of this (fairly recently decreed) International Day of Happiness. Last year the UN sadly lacked an ambassador (honorary or otherwise) for this momentous occasion. Alas, they had to depend on UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to wish:

“everyone around the world a very happy International Day of Happiness! The pursuit of happiness is serious business. Happiness for the entire human family is one of the main goals of the United Nations.”

And he dutifully highlighted this (unstated anywhere in the UN Constitution) “main goal” – as I had noted – with such great panache:

Amazing, eh?!

The Angry Red Birds always defeat the pigs, the UN climate swine should watch their backs. Let’s hope this UN appointment backfires.

Again I have to write that WUWT is almost unusable from time to time presumably due to slooow advertising sites. This is very frustrating. I’ve read WUWT since its beginning, and it has been very accessible until the last few months. Now I get pauses of over half a minute before anything can be done with it.
