Guest essay by Eric Worrall
Arnold Schwarzenegger has received over 100,000 likes, for a Facebook post about the alleged benefits of renewables, which included a fantasy about people who choose petrol powered cars spending an hour with the car of their choice, locked in a sealed room with the engine running, without a gas mask.
From Arnold’s post;
I don’t give a **** if we agree about climate change.
…
Renewable energy is great for the economy, and you don’t have to take my word for it. California has some of the most revolutionary environmental laws in the United States, we get 40% of our power from renewables, and we are 40% more energy efficient than the rest of the country. We were an early-adopter of a clean energy future.
Our economy has not suffered. In fact, our economy in California is growing faster than the U.S. economy. We lead the nation in manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, entertainment, high tech, biotech, and, of course, green tech.
…
There are two doors. Behind Door Number One is a completely sealed room, with a regular, gasoline-fueled car. Behind Door Number Two is an identical, completely sealed room, with an electric car. Both engines are running full blast.
I want you to pick a door to open, and enter the room and shut the door behind you. You have to stay in the room you choose for one hour. You cannot turn off the engine. You do not get a gas mask.
I’m guessing you chose the Door Number Two, with the electric car, right? Door number one is a fatal choice – who would ever want to breathe those fumes?

Schwarzenegger is wrong about renewables being “great for the economy” – as WUWT reported back in May, the cost of energy in California is having a significant impact on jobs, and is contributing to decisions by many businesses to relocate to Texas. This has become such an issue, that Californian Democrats who represent poor, working class areas recently mutinied against Governor Brown’s efforts to introduce tougher CO2 emissions targets, and sided with Republicans to defeat the bill.
But its the fantasy about people being gassed which really bothers me. The green movement has a growing track record of utterly grotesque, even murderous fantasies, and hysterical calls for their opponents to be persecuted. It seems sad that someone of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s stature felt a need to add to this perversity.
Note from Anthony:
It appears the great musclehead mind has confused Carbon Monoxide, and Carbon Dioxide, something I’m no stranger to via threat from one of my own local nuts eco-activists, Sherri Quammen: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/03/22/letters-i-get-letters/
Ahnold and Sherri, they are both of the same caliber of thought.

Do Obama, Hillary, Al Gore, et al drive SUVs ?
If he were honest he would include imagery of the unseen coal, natural gas, and nuke plants supplying electric energy to the industrial strength batteries in electric cars. Not a time for honesty on these issues though.
Are there really any electric cars out there whose engines would run “full-blast” for an hour ?
Are there any pure electric cars that would run for an hour with their engines going “full blast” ?
Bloody WordPress login….
In one of his TV interviews after he won Mr. Universe in 1979 or there about was rather “interesting”. But now, like all actors, he’s just following lines on a teleprompter. Remind you of anyone in power in DC?
A few facts for the Innumerator:
Wind Power is what warmists typically embrace – trillions of dollars have been squandered on worthless grid-connected wind power schemes that require life-of-project subsidies and drive up energy costs.
Some background on grid-connected wind power schemes:
The Capacity Factor of wind power is typically a bit over 20%, but that is NOT the relevant factor.
The real truth is told by the Substitution Capacity, which is dropping to as low as 4% in Germany – that is the amount of conventional generation that can be permanently retired when wind power is installed into the grid.
The E.ON Netz Wind Report 2005 is an informative document:
http://www.wind-watch.org/documents/wp-content/uploads/eonwindreport2005.pdf
(apparently no longer available from E.ON Netz website).
Figure 6 says Wind Power is too intermittent (and needs almost 100% spinning backup);
and
Figure 7 says it just gets worse and worse the more Wind Power you add to the grid (see Substitution Capacity dropping from 8% to 4%).
Same story applies to grid-connected Solar Power (both in the absence of a “Super-Battery”).
This was all obvious to us decades ago – we published similar conclusions in 2002.
Trillions of dollars have been wasted globally on green energy that is not green and produces little useful energy.
Regards to all, Allan
He was on t.v. yesterday telling us to eat less meat, to save the planet.

Many of us can’t afford to eat meat more that once a week.
A Hollywood version of Donald Trump and just as ugly. He needs the same kind of foul publicity as Trump to compensate for his failed acting career.
I wonder if they use the same hairdresser?
Leave Donald Trump out of this.
Dear Arnold,
Before we allow you to try this idea, we need to lock you in a sealed room with all your fossil fuelled vehicles running full bore for an hour, no gas mask.
When you come out, let’s talk about if that was such a wonderful suggestion or not.
Nothing to worry about when politicians from Austria start talking about gassing people they disagree with. All in good fun, I’m sure.
I don’t agree with most of what Arnold stated, but Eric Worrall’s contention that this was some “gas chamber fantasy for skeptics” is just plain wrong. I do not see Arnold’s Facebook post as an hate filled “ugly diatribe” against skeptics. Where are his “murderous fantasies” or “hysterical calls” to torment skeptics? This does not rise in any way shape or form, to the hate seen for example in the “No Pressure” exploding children video, or for the calls for war crimes trials for “Dee-nigh-ers”.
We have better skeptical arguments against the “science” of AGW without resorting to phony outrage over some alleged hate-filled rant by Schwarzenegger. His Facebook post was an eye-roller, but Worrall is guilty of Olympic sized long jumping to conclusions in attempting to cast Schwarzenegger as a villain.
I would choose Door Number Two if it was economically feasible.
I think that we would be well served if the headlines allowed for specific facts like – 40% is actually….. Or the percentage of California electricity the comes from dirty coal for the electric car.
40% ?
And then there is reality:
http://content.caiso.com/green/renewrpt/DailyRenewablesWatch.pdf
13%
I suppose that it close enough for climate science.

…Maybe I’m just a cold hearted SoB, but in my opinion they need to freeze to death on that ice. The world needs to see the headline “Global Warming scientists …
I’m sorry, but if the deaths of everyone on that ice survey team helps raise awareness of and opposition to the global warming political train wreck then so be it. It needs to happen

And many more death wishes to the Catlin crew..
Arnie made a similar comment over two years ago; see this thread: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/08/15/the-wuwt-hot-sheet-for-thursday-august-15th-2013/
I suggest to the ex-governator two other rooms, both located in North Dakota. In one you have plenty of food, water, light and heat. In the other you have brown-outs in mid-winter, we can’t deliver food and water consistently and temperatures hover around 45 degrees with dips below freezing. I wonder which room he would chose?
Nuts! The less somebody knows of power generation and physics in general, the more he supports California’s “renewable energy”, and climatism in general. Unfortunately, too many smart and successful people in California know nothing of energy industry and physics.
BTW, California developed its economy mostly because it has good (i.e. warm) climate, which had attracted many wealthy people.
Hollywood was 100% all about no rain, warm weather and lots of sunshine making filming stuff tons easier.
Another interesting tidbit: Schwarzenegger became governor of California after his predecessor Gray Davis was recalled. Gray Davis was recalled because electricity blackouts!
The Austrian born former Governor is promoting the same final solution for climate skeptics that the most infamous man in history, also from Austria, promoted to end the problem of Jews, handicapped, gays, communists, dissidents and so many others.
Schwarzenegger’s NAZ1 father obviously had more influence than is generally recognized.
That Schwarzenegger’s disgusting call for mass murder of skeptics is widely supported speaks volumes about how evil the climate obsession is.
For those of you defending him, eff off.
hunter,
You are truly delusional. You might feel more at home with the SkS Kidz and their fascination with all things Third Reich. Don’t forget your tin foil hat!
Irony, thy name is “skepticgonewild”.
“For those of you defending him, eff off.”
Real classy, hunter. Such eloquent speech.
hunter,
Not many defending Arnie, here.
I see some encouraging you to hone your reading comprehension skills.
Read the head-post, read it again, say “sorry”, keep a civil tongue in your head or “eff off”.
What exactly is Arnold saying, that the 99% of people who drive autos powered by petrol are currently locking themselves in their garage revving the engine?
On a table is a piece of coal, on another table is a metal bar plugged into a wall outlet. Which would you pick up, the coal or the electrically charged metal bar? This may be surprising to Arnold but people who use electricity usually do not wet their fingers and stick them into wall sockets.
A better analogy is, you live in a frigid snowy climate, behind door number one you have consistent, reliable heat provided by fossil fuels or behind door number 2 you can freeze your ass off with intermittent heat provided by solar energy. I wonder which door Arnie would pick.
It’s such a wonky analogy he’s making. And I love that he got his carbon molecules confused … he should stick to what he’s good at, making movies.
This time without the link to enable posting:
Is this not a worse comment on this very blog (one of many about the Catlin expeditions with similar death wishes to the team). It was approved by AW and moderators so they obviously felt it was not over the top.

Dear Arnold
The truth is the skeptics are the ones that are the realist, the ones adhering to scientific methods and they should be recognized as such. The alarmist, the promoters of man made global warming are the deniers. They deny the fact that all their models have gone bust. They deny the fact that the only reliable measure of the global temperature ( satellite data) has shown no warming for almost 20 years. They deny the benefits of CO2. They deny the fact that the oceans are not rising at an alarming rate and storms are not getting more frequent or more sever. In fact they deny everything that is true and exaggerate everything that gives them a glimmer of hope that their doomsday scenarios could happen.
Seeing as when you look at the facts its people like you Arnold that are the deniers you should enter your gas chamber first and you wont be back.
Hey Aaaanald, why don’t you walk the walk. Give all the money you made making carbon emitting destruction scenes in those fantasy movies to a renewable energy company. Then shut your CO2 emitting mouth.
Ah, yes–Arnold wins the Butt-Ugly Stupid Award.
What you expect from someone whose father was a member of the Nazis a Party in the 1930s
Anthony,
This article by Worrall and the hate-filled diatribes by a large component of WUWT posters, does not belong on WUWT.
I am embarrassed. This makes the hate-mongering displayed by SkS look like child’s play. I am a die hard skeptic to the core, but the response to this article is WAY over the top, to put it mildly.
Concern Troll much?
the hate-filled diatribes
===============
what you are seeing is ridicule, not hate.
I’d say someone threatening a scientifically-based group of stellar blow back artists is the hater, “skepticgonewild”… or should your screen name be changed to “RahRahArnold”?
I could always nominate you for an equivalent Butt-Ugly Stupid Award to go with the one I’ve already sent to Arnold.
Your choice.
