UN climate chief Christiana Figueres appears to be doing the rounds, attempting to drum up support for meaningful Paris climate pledges – which currently fall far short of what climate apparatchiks wanted. The latest stop on her tour is a visit to Australia.
According to the Guardian;
The UN climate chief, Christiana Figueres, has said there was “no space” for new coal developments and stressed the benefits of ambitious renewable energy targets after a meeting with representatives from seven Australian governments.
At the meeting in Adelaide, organised by the South Australian government, federal, state and territory administrations agreed to work more closely to drive an uptake in renewable energy, coordinate energy-efficiency schemes and help communities adapt to climate change.
Figueres, the executive secretary of the United Nations framework convention on climate change, urged the states and territories to work with the federal government to help deliver a “strong” global agreement at key climate talks in Paris in December.
The meeting was attended by the environment ministers of the Labor-run states and territories – Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and the ACT. The federal government, Tasmanian and New South Wales governments were represented at “senior official level”, and Western Australia and the Northern Territory were absent.
On the surface support for Figueres might seem enthusiastic, at least in some quarters, but even the Aussie climate enthusiasts have their problems. For example, the Queensland State government, arugably the greenest government in Australia, governs with a razor thin majority, due to the support of 2 independents. Queensland is heavily dependent economically on the mining industry, including large scale coal enterprises. So if the Queensland government leans too heavily on the mining industry, the backlash could cost them their political majority.
China’s joke climate pledge – a free pass to undermine everyone else’s carbon hamstrung economies until 2030 – has probably helped to restrain enthusiasm for more serious Paris commitments.

Typical UN Socialist that could care less about helping people and more about power. She is another appointed bureaucrat that believes people aren’t capable of governing themselves and they have all the answers and expertise. In America she would be called a Progressive. People all over the world are trying to live in “Western” countries for a reason and she wants to change that to make it just as miserable as the countries they’re escaping.
Christiana Figueres says there is “no space” for new coal. And in Africa which have many 3rd wrold developing countries, does she still say the same and believes that this helps the poor in those countries? I think that some cheap coal power there and many in places power plants might help those countries.
No way will wind and solar provide the power they need…
In terms of “marketing”, as in “brain-washing”, climate science has done a very good job having convinced all kinds of people that a theory, some computer models and faked up climate data means that we have to give up electricity and cars and tractors and cement and home heating in the winter.
+1 but you left out ‘industry’.
The UNFCC and the national-level socialists don’t want us to give up all those things. They just want to control it all, tell us when they we have enough, and ensure the political controlling class can still jet between their “hovels” in Davos and Aspen whenever they please.
When CAGW crashes and burns, the UN’s source of funding and political infrastructure to establish a New World Order implodes along with it, as outlined UN’s Agenda 21.
Accordingly, the Leftist UN political hacks and feckless Leftist hacks around the world in general will do all they can to keep the CAGW scam going for as long as possible. CAGW and Agenda 21 are the cornerstones upon which New World Order tyranny is planned to be implemented.
Support for the UN around the world is falling precipitously and when the CAGW hypothesis is eventually tossed on the trash heap of failed ideas, hopefully the UN will be tossed in the trash along with it.
CAGW is the Sword of Damocles to the UN. When that thinly stretch hair holding that sharp badass sword finally snaps, many heads will roll.
I’m counting the days until CAGW and the UN are no more.
The problem is there are no openly skeptical politicians in Australia of AGW. None! Though the Carbon Tax has been abolished, there is still a “Direct Action Plan to combat climate change”. It may be be a lip service policy, but we really need someone with enough guts to stand up and call out the AGW hysteria for what it is.
Most people on the planet would have to work very hard indeed to create the type of carbon mountain Figueres does flying around the world telling others how they should cut down on consumption.
And if it makes you feel better , its first class and tax payer funded all the way for this person with NO democrat mandate who no matter what they do cannot be sacked .
Still they no doubt have a very nice suit of rooms ready for them for their late holiday in Paris , so at least they going to have a good end to the year .
Now if only we could get Figgy to publish a image of the prophet…
I swear that (woman?) looks like a bad SF movie reptilian.
John L,
She’s worse than that:

[For those too young to remember, that’s the evil Dr. Smith in the upper left corner, from the ’70’s Lost In Space series. The alien is the UN’s Christiana Figueres.]
