Newsbytes: Hansen's 4 year doom cycle gets rebooted

WUWT readers may recall this from 2009:

hansen_obama_4years

Some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires, and crippling drought, and more powerful storms… That is how we will preserve our planet, commanded to our care by God. That’s what will lend meaning to the creed our fathers once declared. –President Barack Obama, Second Inaugural Address, 21 January 2013

Hmmm, nevermind, let’s try again this term. I’m so thankful to be here since Hansen’s reliance on his Jor-el complex was wrong the first time. Here’s some reactions to Obama’s speech yesterday as collected by Dr. Benny Peiser of The GWPF.

By bringing in God, Obama is attempting to reframe the issue as one that transcends not only partisanship but the divide between those who believe in science and those who doubt science but believe in God. Left or right, atheist or creationist—either way, Obama is saying, we’ve got to do something. –Will Oremus, Slate, 21 January 2013

Obama’s decision to include the climate issue in his speech signals that he’s at least hoping to pursue yet another very difficult legislative goal. And climate change is about as difficult as any of the other items. Legislating the issue is even more difficult than finding a public consensus. With Democrats now in the minority in the House and with a smaller Senate majority, it’s hard to see how [climate] legislation would pass now, without being significantly scaled back or without some pressing new impetus. Even in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, there wasn’t a concerted push on climate change. And given all the more time-sensitive issues on the table right now, it’s unlikely climate change will become a real priority any time soon. –Aaron Blake, The Washington Post, 21 January 2013

When President Obama takes the oath of office for the second time, he will also usher in a new era in American power politics. Whereas the old left-wing definition of “who rules” focused on large corporations, banks, energy companies and agribusinesses, the Obama-era power structure represents a major transformation. Today’s new hegemons hail almost entirely from outside the material economy, and many come from outside the realm of the market system entirely. Daniel Bell, in his landmark 1973 The Coming of Post-Industrial Society, may have been the first to identify this ascension to “pre-eminence of the professional and technical class.” This new “priesthood of power,” as he put it, would eventually overturn the traditional hierarchies based on land, corporate and financial assets. As befits a technological age, the new clerisy also enjoys the sanction of what Bell defined as the “creative elite of scientists.” More disturbing still may be the clerisy’s regal disregard for democratic give and take. Joel Kotkin, Forbes, 19 January 2013

One of his most passionate moments was even devoted to addressing “climate change,” of all things. He rarely mentioned the subject in the election campaign. But doing something about global warming is a commandment in the modern liberal catechism, and now Mr. Obama says it will be a major priority in the next four years. He even used the stock liberal description that those who disagree with him on climate change “deny” scientific fact. It’s another example of deliberately stigmatizing his opposition. –Editorial, The Wall Street Journal, 22 January 2013

Barack Obama has only four years to save the world. That is the stark assessment of Nasa scientist and leading climate expert Jim Hansen who last week warned only urgent action by the new president could halt the devastating climate change that now threatens Earth. Crucially, that action will have to be taken within Obama’s first administration, he added. –Robin McKie, The Observer, Sunday 18 January 2009

I sent this to my congressman and senators:
In the president’s inaugural address he mentioned “those that deny the science” when speaking of climate change. As you may know, those of us that have looked at the evidence and do not agree that CO2 will destroy the world are often called climate change deniers or science deniers which is a rip-off of holocaust denier and very derogatory. I don’t know where you stand on this controversial issue but you have two brilliant scientists working at UAH, Drs. Spencer and Christy. If you haven’t may I ask that you contact these esteemed gentlemen and ask for their views on climate change and take this with you to Washington and do whatever you can to stop action to thwart climate change that may be detrimental to our economy?
Thank You,

CRS, Dr.P.H.

More likely this nod to “climate change” work by Pres. Obama is just one more head fake to distract.
Clear it is that the possible new votes for Democrat Party boss types is the 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants most of them from Mexico and South America.
Notwithstanding the shell game going on it seems to some that new thinking of better messaging needs to come from people like those herein.
We have the facts, the msm hides or distracts all we know.
A mass message must go out from some source, and the idea of how to do it very possible could come from this blog or the others like here.
The leaked e-mails in a mass dump from Drudge Report, or just a simple mass mailing via the U.S. Postal Service. TV and print will not use one word of truth no matter the price.
Thus comes the personal responsibilty to lead, to us now.
Time maches on.

To all of you out there citing the irrationality of what Obama says or how wrong Hansen is shown to be over and over….. None of it matters because their goals have nothing to do with being right or rational. Obama’s goal is to transform the U.S. into a socialist country where the government is in charge of everything and controls as many aspects of your life as possible.
Who knows whether Obama believes in Climate Change or not. That’s irrelevant. What is relevant is that getting legislation passed about Climate Change is another way to control your life and another step on the path to government controlling everything.
Obama lies every time he opens his mouth but since we have a media completely in bed with his agenda, he never gets called out for it. And when the right tries to call attention to it they immediately get branded and crazy Constitution thumping right wing zealots.
We’re losing the war and will lose it completely if we don’t change out tactics. We have to go after the socialist left the same way they are going after us. That may be abhorrent to rational science minded people but logical debates over what is true and what is not true don’t work when one side is winning with tactics where science and logic are ignored.
Obama will fight the battles in the next 4 years that he thinks he has the best chance at winning as any win advances the socialist cause. Climate Change may or may not be a battle that can be won. His speech was just an dream list of battles he’d like to win. Some will be postponed for another future liberal administration to pick up.

D. B. Stealey –
the report demanding TRILLIONS of taxpayer $$$ was “researched by the Accenture consultancy” which has form!
2009: Venturebeat: Camille Ricketts: U.K. called climate change slacker, taps Accenture to turn Smart Grid program around
And one of its regulators estimated that it will need to spend 200 billion pounds (a staggering $316 billion dollars) over the next decade in order to make the necessary cuts in greenhouse gases. At the same time, the government announced that it has contracted Accenture to help ease its rollout of Smart Grid technology, which should push it closer to its goals…
Accenture is no stranger to the Smart Grid. In the U.S., it is partnering with Colorado-based utility Xcel Energy to run a pilot program incorporating these technologies. It also offers its Intelligent City Network — a portal for Smart Grid best practices that utilities can consult as they deploy smart meters and communicate changes to their customers…
(VentureBeat is hosting GreenBeat, the seminal executive conference on the Smart Grid, on Nov. 18-19, featuring keynotes from Nobel Prize winner Al Gore and Kleiner Perkins’ John Doerr)

Wikipedia: Accenture Consulting
Accenture plc is a multinational management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company headquartered in Dublin, Republic of Ireland. It is one of the world’s largest consulting firm measured by revenues[3] and is a constituent of the Fortune Global 500 list.[4] As of September 2012, the company had more than 257,000 employees across 120 countries…
Accenture originated as the business and technology consulting division of accounting firm Arthur Andersen…
Through the 1990s, there was increasing tension between Andersen Consulting and Arthur Andersen. Andersen Consulting was upset that it was paying Arthur Andersen up to 15% of its profits each year (a condition of the 1989 split was that the more profitable unit – AA or AC – paid the other this sum), while at the same time Arthur Andersen was competing with Andersen Consulting through its own newly established business consulting service line called Arthur Andersen Business Consulting. This dispute came to a head in 1998 when Andersen Consulting claimed breach of contract against Andersen Worldwide Société Coopérative (AWSC) and Arthur Andersen. Andersen Consulting put the 15% transfer payment for that year and future years into escrow and issued a claim for breach of contract. In August 2001, as a result of the conclusion of arbitration with the International Chamber of Commerce, Andersen Consulting broke all contractual ties with AWSC and Arthur Andersen. As part of the arbitration settlement, Andersen Consulting paid the sum held in escrow (then $1.2 billion) to Arthur Andersen, and was required to change its name, resulting in the entity being renamed Accenture…

Hansen has played the Wolf scaremongering story too many times. Nobody believes him except the radical environmentalists and some Democrats, particularly Obama. Some one should put Hansen in a mental institution before he hurts himself.

That picture of Jim Hansen is especially appropriate. Eyes skyward, illuminated by light from above. He’s the image of a secular saint, with all the subliminal messaging of Renaissance religious piety.

Maybe someone with more skill than I have should take that picture and morph it with Yoda, green lightsabre and all.

we need less Hansen and more Bellamy:
22 Jan: UK Daily Mail: Jan Fryer: The BBC froze me out because I don’t believe in global warming: Outspoken as ever, David Bellamy reveals why you don’t see him on TV any more
‘And it’s just nonsense. For the last 16 years, temperatures have been going down and the carbon dioxide has been going up and the crops have got greener and grow quicker. We’ve done plenty to smash up the planet, but there’s been no global warming caused by man.’…
‘I still say it’s poppycock!’ he snorts. ‘If you believe it, fine. But I don’t and there’s thousands like me. David Attenborough used to be one of us on wind farms, but then he changed his mind.’…
‘And I can’t complain. When I was at the BBC, I could do whatever I wanted. In those days, you could say what you liked. You can’t now…

Anthony-
The National Academy of Sciences released a report today called “Climate and Social Stress: Implications for Security Analysis” that uses IPCC and the USGCRP reports as its authority that climate change is happening and it is time to move on to the national and international secutity risks posed.
The report does something I have never seen before and I read these reports a lot. It keeps making references to a whole-of-government approach and strategy. As in
“The US government should begin immediately to develop a systematic and enduring whole-of-government strategy for monitoring threats connected to climate change.”
That’s not climate change as science. It’s climate change as political and economic organizing principle using all governmental powers.
I cannot link but the nap # is 14682.
I know you mentioned you are about to do something with IPCC and USGCRP. Now would be a good time with the hyphenated whole-of-government pushing this.
Unprecedented. At least in countries pretending to have any restraints.

It was brutally cold and snowy cycling home from work last night. Hardly a set of conditions conducive to pondering AGW and how to save the planet, but there I was, thinking and pedaling along. So many newspaper editorials these days are expressions of ache for carbon taxes to right price carbon, yet governments slumber away – apparently in deep climate denial. Nonsense, I thought to myself, we can take action at a grassroots level today if we want. So I put a facility on my cycling blog to allow concerned citizens to voluntarily raise the price of their carbon, while I offset their carbon emissions with every rotation of the crankarms on my bicycle. Thus far, no newspaper columnists that have clambered for carbon taxes have made use of this facility. Nevertheless, this very low income individual will continue leading the low carbon lifestyle, secure in his trust that AGW worried folks will step forward and take immediate and effective voluntary action today.

Well I’m not old enough to have seen it happen; but I am old enough to remember that it happened.
in the early 1930s, The Chancellor of Germany was elected to power by (more or less) democratic processes; by will of the people (well there was that little Reichstag fire thing; but never let any crisis go to waste). We all know what happened; and those people, who made that choice paid a terrible price, along with much of the rest of the world.
Well this isn’t the 1930s; and we have someone new to blame for our problems and travails; millionaires and billionaires.
And we have new masses who want free stuff; even though they know it has to
be stolen from someone else, much like in the 1930s.
Elections have consequences. The USA had an election; so did the Golden State of California; by will of the people.
We are about to reap the consequences, of what happened as a result of (more or less) Democratic processes (well there was that little Sandy thing; but never let any crisis go to waste.)

Obama admin. will now have to decide whether to coddle green allies on the Keystone XL pipeline:
http://green.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/01/22/nebraska-governor-approves-keystone-xl-route/?smid=tw-nytimesscience&seid=auto
Gov. of Nebraska has approved the new route (which was not really needed except to placate fanatics) and now we will see whether Obama’s State Dept. cares more about political correctness or about jobs, economy, energy…..

Brozek said: “It would be nice if we really knew what was going on with the climate without a bunch of changes to the GISS data sets. … If anyone has a good explanation why a number is raised 6 years later, I would like to know it.”
The answer is in Orwell’s novel, 1984. We evidently now have a Ministry of Truth that engages in historical and scientific revisionism. (Orwell should be around to update his novel to the 21st century.)
