The 2012 Bloggies Awards final nominations are in, and I’m pleased to announce that climate skepticism is making an extremely strong showing this year. Here is a rundown of blogs you may know.
- For Best Australian Blog, we have two Australian climate blogs, JoNova and Australian Climate Madness (A tough choice here, both are excellent)
- Climate Audit is in the running for the for Best Canadian blog
- Tallbloke’s Talkshop for Best European blog
- WUWT is up in two categories, Best science/technology blog, and Lifetime Achievement Award.
Given the other finalists in the sci-tech category (which was combined this year) and the amount of traffic they have, I don’t think WUWT has an ice cube’s chance in hell of winning.
But, we’ll give it a go.
In the Lifetime Acheivement category, the blog Pioneer Woman is expected to be the favorite, having won numerous other awards. Again, I don’t think WUWT has much of a chance.
But, we’ll give it a go.
Here’s how:
1. Visit http://2012.bloggi.es/ for the main voting page,
2. Locate the category thumbnails for the categories you want to vote on (you need to vote at least three categories to submit a vote). Here’s what the Sci-Tech Category looks like:
3. If you want to vote for WUWT (or any of the blog categories), click on the little grey circle in the lower right of the icon, and it turns into a checkbox and greys out the other thumbnails. Note the contest rotates the thumbnails for fairness in placement, so it may not look like the image order above.
4. Scroll up/down. Vote for any other blogs you like in any other categories the same way. You don’t have to vote for all other blog categories, as the system doesn’t require it, but please check out other categories. These other bloggers work very hard to deliver a quality product. Reward them if you feel they deserve it.
5. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page: (note – don’t use cursor keys, it will change your vote!)
6. Complete the captcha by typing the words displayed in your browser (not the ones above), put in a VALID email address. Press the yellow SUBMIT button. Note- you won’t get spammed by doing so. See the fine print under the email box.
7. Wait for an email in your inbox. That email contains a link to verify your vote. If you don’t get it within a half hour, check your spam filter.
8. Click on the link in your email to verify your vote. It will take you to the verification page on the website and you’ll get a success message.
9. Spread the word! Twitter, Facebook, mailing lists, friends, comments on other blogs, and most importantly, if you run a blog, I’d welcome a posting on this topic.
You know that some others who dislike what we do here will try to create anti-vote campaigns as they have done in the past. Success depends on whether there are more people who view WUWT as a science resource versus those that simply want to haul out the hate, and slap on the “denier” label.
10. Remember, while winning is fun, the way you play the game is just as important. Don’t cheat. Don’t encourage cheating, and simply let the chips fall where they may.
Also, there are a couple of other blogs worth noting.
In the Political category, American Thinker is up against the propaganda blog Think Progress (Joe Romm’s Center for American Progress outfit) and the Huffington Post. Another David-Goliath battle. I on occasion cite American Thinker for some of the great articles there. I usually mock HuffPo and Think Progress, for the flaming articles there, that should tell you something.
In the Humorous category XKCD, hands down, though too bad Josh isn’t there.
Thanks for your consideration – Anthony

Tried twice to vote over the last three days (leaving a suitable period between each time to make sure I wasn’t being impatient. Both times I got the message that I should now check my email to confirm my vote and both times nothing arrived. Not in my junk or spam folders either. 🙁

“Speaking of Groundhog Day, there was a lack of consensus this year internationally. Both Canadian groundhogs, Shubenacedie Sam and Wiarton Willy failed to see their shadows, predicting an early spring in Eastern Canada (this would not be surprising given the warm winter we’ve been having.) But Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania did see his shadow. Does he do a kind of US average that accounts for what is happening in Alaska?”
The vernal equinox is on March 21. Do the math.
This should bring down the Queensland government and all the greenies within it

[Snip. Take your ad hominem attacks on Lord Monckton elsewhere. They are not welcome here. ~dbs, mod.]
Hey Anthony, time to appologize to potholer and expose your hero Monckton:
Or will you delete this post? Or keep ignoring the facts? Will you just ignore that Monckton lied about pretty much everything? Of course you don’t have the backbone to stand up for the truth. You are just as dishonest and manipulative as Monckton is.
[Reply: You are an idiot. ~dbs, mod.]
And of course you don’t dare to allow my comment. Because you have something to hide and can’t allow anything to prove your manipulative, one-sided “commentary” wrong. Come on, you KNOW Monckton lied, you just can’t admit it because you blindly agreed with him because it matches your agenda. You have long ago stopped caring about the truth, just like Monckton.
[Reply: Your comment is approved, because WUWT does not delete even the most ridiculous comments. Lord Monckton has every right to respond. That is not following an “agenda”, despite your own warmist beliefs. ~dbs, mod.]
I’ve voted for you in the two categories, for Mc Intyre, for Tallbloke, ( and, I confess, for The Sartorialist ). And I advised all the people I know, to go and vote. We owe you at least that.
Pity not having been able to vote for Josh.
Best of Luck, now
Voted. Confirmed. Good luck!

For the moment I would say: The null hypothesis looks best, and it says: Temperatures are completely unalarming.
Voted and glad to. LOL at the troll showing up. Not good politics for their favorites to come to try to trash the opponents site for sure.
hard choice in the Australian blog but we are very much agreement down the line.
Lady in Red it also voted for pioneer women good blog there.
a Yankee admiral once said “Damn the torpedoes full steam ahead.” That is how I feel about this site. Keep the boilers hot Anthony.
Bill Derryberry…
It’s been almost a day and I haven’t received my confirmation email. 🙁 I think I’ll try voting again, but I’ll use an email address that takes a less-filtered route.
Voted over a day ago, no confirmation e-mail. Not in spam folder.
[Reply: Send them an email. I did, and they responded. ~dbs, mod.]

The TRUTH! You can’t handle the TRUTH.

BTW, I just voted.
I tried to enter using Chrome and no confirmation email. Tried again using Firefox and confirmation email came by return. It was, however, redirected to my spam folder.
Ok, my votes in now. They must be swamped with these emails.
My thanks for their attention.
Your ballot has been verified. Check back on Sunday, February 26 to see the winners!
I’m disappointed. I was hoping Pharyngula had been nominated so I could ignore it even more. Bonus would have been it being listed in the Religion/Spirituality category. Oh well.
I remember it since it used to beat WUWT in the Wikio rankings. I recalled it when it was mentioned above that you still have the Wikio thing in the right sidebar. I checked, it’s now an “ebuzzing” thing.
And the link for it is now 404. Since it no longer works at all, and as mentioned “Wikio” doesn’t track the ratings anymore, why keep it?
(For myself, I’m putting it back on my AdBlock list as it had loading problems and caused pages to hang.)
Done. Err…not that there’s anything wrong with it but I noticed that your category is right above the best GLBT blog ballot. Sorry, that’s not funny oops pressed the send button Oh Noes.
Ye Gods!
Watts needs to give a line by line instruction on how to vote for his “science” website.
What IQ level does he believe his readers have?
REPLY: This site has everyone from grade school kids to Ph’d’s that read it daily. It wouldn’t be nearly as successful if I only wrote for the PhD’s now would it? One thing I learned a long time ago in broadcasting – NEVER talk down to your audience as if they are know-nothings and speak/write to everyone, not just a select few. What you see as a weakness is actually a strength, and my numbers prove it. – Anthony
Thanks for the February 4, 2012 at 10:24 am, suggestion that solved my no confirmation e-mail problem: [Reply: Send them an email. I did, and they responded. ~dbs, mod.]
Received “I’ve confirmed your ballot for you.” e-mail today.
Voted for WUWT*2, Climate Audit, JoNova my Jo, and Tallbloke.
Thank you for all your diligent work.
Voted on the ones I know and trust; you, you, McIntyre, Tallbloke, Jo and a couple of others.
No problems whatsoever with Chrome.
SkepticalScience didn’t make it either.
Of course as well as not being skeptical, it’s not science either.
Vetoes cast in those categories with which I am familair …
