WUWT and other climate blogs are 2012 Bloggies Finalists

The 2012 Bloggies Awards final nominations are in, and I’m pleased to announce that climate skepticism is making an extremely strong showing this year. Here is a rundown of blogs you may know.

Given the other finalists in the sci-tech category (which was combined this year) and the amount of traffic they have, I don’t think WUWT has an ice cube’s chance in hell of winning.

But, we’ll give it a go.

In the Lifetime Acheivement category, the blog Pioneer Woman is expected to be the favorite, having won numerous other awards. Again, I don’t think WUWT has much of a chance.

But, we’ll give it a go.

Here’s how:

1. Visit http://2012.bloggi.es/ for the main voting page,

2. Locate the category thumbnails for the categories you want to vote on (you need to vote at least three categories to submit a vote). Here’s what the Sci-Tech Category looks like:

3. If you want to vote for WUWT (or any of the blog categories), click on the little grey circle in the lower right of the icon, and it turns into a checkbox and greys out the other thumbnails. Note the contest rotates the thumbnails for fairness in placement, so it may not look like the image order above.

4. Scroll up/down. Vote for any other blogs you like in any other categories the same way. You don’t have to vote for all other blog categories, as the system doesn’t require it, but please check out other categories. These other bloggers work very hard to deliver a quality product. Reward them if you feel they deserve it.

5. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page: (notedon’t use cursor keys, it will change your vote!)

6. Complete the captcha by typing the words displayed in your browser (not the ones above), put in a VALID email address. Press the yellow SUBMIT button. Note- you won’t get spammed by doing so. See the fine print under the email box.

7. Wait for an email in your inbox. That email contains a link to verify your vote. If you don’t get it within a half hour, check your spam filter.

8. Click on the link in your email to verify your vote. It will take you to the verification page on the website and you’ll get a success message.

9. Spread the word! Twitter, Facebook, mailing lists, friends, comments on other blogs, and most importantly, if you run a blog, I’d welcome a posting on this topic.

You know that some others who dislike what we do here will try to create anti-vote campaigns as they have done in the past. Success depends on whether there are more people who view WUWT as a science resource versus those that simply want to haul out the hate, and slap on the “denier” label.

10. Remember, while winning is fun, the way you play the game is just as important. Don’t cheat. Don’t encourage cheating, and simply let the chips fall where they may.

Also, there are a couple of other blogs worth noting.

In the Political category, American Thinker is up against the propaganda blog Think Progress (Joe Romm’s Center for American Progress outfit) and the Huffington Post. Another David-Goliath battle. I on occasion cite American Thinker for some of the great articles there. I usually mock HuffPo and Think Progress, for the flaming articles there, that should tell you something.

In the Humorous category XKCD, hands down, though too bad Josh isn’t there.

Thanks for your consideration – Anthony

Yahooo! Just voted. Thanks so much for all you do.

I’ve sent the link to this article to everyone in my Address Book, asking them to vote for WUWT. It’s easy, and it only takes a couple minutes.

Rick K is right: make this a sticky, leaving it at the top of the heap for a while.
In my view WUWT is already at the top of the heap, of course, especially for lifetime achievement.
Good luck to you, to Climate Audit (yes!), to Tallbloke (yes!}, to JoNova (yes!), and to American Thinker.
Wish I could have voted somewhere for Lucy Skywalker, but she might have needed a special category comprising just her.

Addendum to the above: there has GOT to be a better way to do captchas.

Richards in Vancouver, hey, I didn’t expect this or deserve this! but thanks anyway. Really, the prize goes to all the bloggies who work so d**n hard I still don’t know how they manage. Anthony and the team here, especially.
Well, now I shall trundle back to developing the climate science wiki. If you are interested, contact me. And promises, there is not a word about homeopathy on the wiki… and will not be…
..that’s another fight for another day and another wiki perhaps… but at least I’ve now found a pretty recent Nobel prizwinning scientist who supports it, and has just emigrated to China to head up a laboratory there named after him, to research it further in China, seeing it’s like another Galileo situation in the West at present…

Done!
* Even if you come “last” in a category, you can claim (rightly) to be in the top 5. So, congrats on being in the top 5 in two important categories.
* Interesting that Real Climate, Bad Astronomy and Pharyngula did not make it to the shortlist. Indded, WUWT seemed to be the only recognisable science member of the 5. Maybe top of the science blopgs already
* Josh and the Beagle would have been excellent additions to the humorous category.
To anyone not voted yet, be patient with the captcha. I failed on the words. Went on to try the sound version several times but couldn’t get whatever answer they wanted. Finally, I went back to the ID words and needed several tries. Beware. The collections of letters do not necessarily look anything like English (US or UK version). Also, seem to be case sensitive. The system does allow you to make several mistakes. Got there in the end. And confirmed!

I have to second the captcha comment. When I voted (for WUWT of course!), the first captcha that was presented included a word written in the Hebrew script. Now I’m a pretty resourceful guy, but all I could think was “HUH?” It took 5 or 6 captcha refreshes until I could find one that I could actually decipher.

Congragulations on your nomination!

Alan has a point Anthony…
you are already one of the top 5 blogs in the world in two categories… not too shabby !
A “top 5 in the world” emblem could be posted right under the others in the column on the right, win, place, or show…

Best thing for me was that in the relevant categories I found no conflicts of loyalty; but thanks to AW for the other Oz site, American Thinker and XKCD, none of whom I’d heard of before but have now ‘bookmarked’ for the future.
Pleased to learn I’m not the only one with problems with ‘captcha’, I’d assumed it was either my eyesight or old-age, or both.

Congrats. On a related note, why do you still display the wikio badge in the sidebar when they no longer maintain the rankings?

cbone,
I like it. It must drive Tamina and his 34 followers nuts.

I am curious how this poll is going to split for WUWT et al voters. I guesstimate around 65% American Thinker to 35% Huffington Post.
