The 24 hour Gore-a-thon on WUWT

UPDATE: All of the Gore-a-thon posts and cartoons are now available in the Climate Fail Files page here

If you noticed a change in the header, this is why.

Our rebuttal of Al Gore’s 24 hours of Climate Reality aka the Gore-a-thon is On-The-Air. Josh is leading the charge chortles. We’ll have a new Josh cartoon, along with commentary, graphs and links every hour starting at 5PM PST to match the starting time of the CRP. They appear below this post.

You can watch the live video presentation here, I urge everyone to do so (because after hour 4 it is starting to look like a massive dud, Al needs the help) and to make notes about it during the appropriate hour. Alternate video link here at Ustream.

Here’s the trailer advertising it:

If you run a blog, we hope you’ll participate and use the content. If you don’t have a blog, get one for free here and join in the fun using the free content we’ll provide.

All good clean fun of course. While we have some great ideas for the program, WUWT readers often come up with some great ones too. Luboš Motl has some fun ideas already.

Ideas and discussion welcome below.

UPDATE: The Climate Reality project has released two videos hyping the event. It appears they’ll be smearing some of what is in the videos.

Of course, they are asking for money, a minimum of $10 after viewing them. They write with the mass email:

While some folks have told us these aren’t exactly family fare, we think they make a point that’s long overdue. And you can help make sure that everyone who you think can handle them, sees them.

We are planning an online ad buy — but we need your help to reach as many people as possible. Will you donate $10 to get this message out?

http://forms.climaterealityproject.org/ad-donate

Your donation will help us spread the Climate Reality message in a unique and effective way. Tell the world: The climate crisis is not a debate. It’s reality. And the time to take action is not the future — it’s right now. The fat lady has sung.

Watch the videos and make a donation today. Anything you give makes a difference:

http://forms.climaterealityproject.org/ad-donate

The time to act is now. The denial has hit the fan.

Thanks,

Alex Bogusky

The Climate Reality Project.

WUWT readers may recall that Mr Bogusky is the “interviewer” for Al Gore’s recent racist slur against climate skeptics.

“Whilst wondering how much the youth of America and the UK are invested in Al Gores world of C.R.a.P. and also noting that both Dessler and Gore are making videos I did a little light You-tube research. Al’s best performance appears to be his GW in 10 minutes at 342,115 views. The X-factor has Paul Potts at 82,352,761 […]”
That, my friend, is nothing. Two words: Nyuki nyuki. 199 Mill views, adding a million a day or so…

I don’t get it. What’s Al going to do with $17.38?

Gore is a scientist after all. He just has proven alternative realities exist because he inhabits one. Time for windmills and unicorn burps to save the day.

I do wish however, that folks here on both sides would stick to primarily serious debate instead of drive bys. I enjoy the tongue in cheek pithy comment now and then but, and you know who you are, those that only do drive bys are ignored by me as being less than informed no matter which way they swing.

I do hope something is also being planned for Durban in November . We in SA have just emerged from the coldest winter I can recall in the past 40 years. It is a pity the GW circus didn’t come in July.

WUWT needs a Post for:
Elevator Speeches for “Why I’m a CAGW Skeptic”
Comments would be each contributor’s own 90 second summary of why they are not believers in the need for immediate controls by regional, country, or worldwide governments on CO2 emissions. This will be hard. Squeezing ALL the reasons I’m a skeptic into 90 seconds (700 words) would be impossible. So the editing of the reasons into pithy, memorable, and rock-solid phrases will take some labor. Sharing that work might be enlightening to all readers.
I’m working on mine.

May I remind folks again that when Gore accuses skeptic scientists of corruption, he places all his eggs in a single basket.
He says they are in a conspiracy to “reposition global warming as theory rather than fact” which supposedly mimics an old U.S. tobacco industry conspiracy to downplay the health hazards of smoking. In the exclusive article I wrote for ClimateDepot, I detailed how that “reposition global warming” accusation phrase (spelled out full screen in Al Gore’s movie) is 1) based on a 1991 memo no one was allowed to see, 2) it is an out-of-context sentence, promoted by a person who was not a Pulitzer winner despite accolades to the contrary, 3) Al Gore credited that person with finding the memo, and, 4) Gore had the memo collection in his own possession in 1991 or ’92 at his Senate office years before that person. Please see: Smearing Skeptic Scientists: What did Gore know and when did he know it?” http://www.climatedepot.com/a/11168/Climate-Depot-Exclusive-Smearing-Skeptic-Scientists-What-did-Gore-know-and-when-did-he-know-it
I’d strongly suggest that Gore is highly vulnerable on his underlying science, he is even more vulnerable on this accusation.

Russell: I’ve never seen any independent corroboration of the oft-repeated billions of dollars in subsidies to the fossil fuel industry claim, either. Anybody care to offer a source?

700 words in 90 seconds are you sure? Guiness Book of Records cites JFK at 300 words per minute in short bursts.

If each person would send in one dollar representing one of the millions of degrees the earth core is, then would the Gore-a-thon be a success?

Shame they can’t just let the facts stand on there own? Are models 3D? or would you have to stack climate models in a sort of house shape to stand them up?

On the airport ramp
Sits a big ol’ G
And that motorcade
Tellin’ you and me
It’s Al, Brother Al, say Brother Al’s travelin’ Globe-warmin’ show
(halle, halle)
The newsies’ll see us, so load up the Prius
And everyone goes
‘Cause everyone knows
Brother Al’s Shows
(Halleluja! Halle Halle-lu-ja!)
* * *
The tune should be obvious.

Ric

I wonder if we could get him to base this “special” effort out of Houston to reap the benefits of the “Gore Effect”? God knows we could use the relief….

A reuters headline posted at Tom Nelson’s site said “Al Gore in 24-hour broadcast to convert climate skeptics
and right below the headline was an excerpt from the reuters article that said:
“There will be a full-on assault on climate skeptics, exploring where they get their funding from.
That’s not going to change my mind. If they want me to consider what they are saying, then they need to do things like tell us what was in the deleted emails and why they were deleted, why a climate scientist wanted to get rid of the MWP, and open up ALL of Mann’s UVA emails to the public. This would be a good start…
