The 24 hour Gore-a-thon on WUWT

UPDATE: All of the Gore-a-thon posts and cartoons are now available in the Climate Fail Files page here

If you noticed a change in the header, this is why.

Our rebuttal of Al Gore’s 24 hours of Climate Reality aka the Gore-a-thon is On-The-Air. Josh is leading the charge chortles. We’ll have a new Josh cartoon, along with commentary, graphs and links every hour starting at 5PM PST to match the starting time of the CRP. They appear below this post.

You can watch the live video presentation here, I urge everyone to do so (because after hour 4 it is starting to look like a massive dud, Al needs the help) and to make notes about it during the appropriate hour. Alternate video link here at Ustream.

Here’s the trailer advertising it:

If you run a blog, we hope you’ll participate and use the content. If you don’t have a blog, get one for free here and join in the fun using the free content we’ll provide.

All good clean fun of course. While we have some great ideas for the program, WUWT readers often come up with some great ones too. Luboš Motl has some fun ideas already.

Ideas and discussion welcome below.

UPDATE: The Climate Reality project has released two videos hyping the event. It appears they’ll be smearing some of what is in the videos.

Of course, they are asking for money, a minimum of $10 after viewing them. They write with the mass email:

While some folks have told us these aren’t exactly family fare, we think they make a point that’s long overdue. And you can help make sure that everyone who you think can handle them, sees them.

We are planning an online ad buy — but we need your help to reach as many people as possible. Will you donate $10 to get this message out?

http://forms.climaterealityproject.org/ad-donate

Your donation will help us spread the Climate Reality message in a unique and effective way. Tell the world: The climate crisis is not a debate. It’s reality. And the time to take action is not the future — it’s right now. The fat lady has sung.

Watch the videos and make a donation today. Anything you give makes a difference:

http://forms.climaterealityproject.org/ad-donate

The time to act is now. The denial has hit the fan.

Thanks,

Alex Bogusky

The Climate Reality Project.

WUWT readers may recall that Mr Bogusky is the “interviewer” for Al Gore’s recent racist slur against climate skeptics.

Hey, Joe, Thanks for posting. I have been trying to draw attention to the unseasonably cool weather from St. Louis north. For the last two weeks of August, St. Louis enjoyed May temperatures. So far, September has been just as unseasonably cool yet it is still summer time. Well, guess what happens Wednesday? St. Louis dives right into October temperatures. When was the last time that this happened? In the lead up to the disastrous winters of 1976-79, of course. I expect the same this winter.

Sheesh…now I’m going to have to ride around in my SUV with tilted windows and trenchcoat to avoid being ‘outed’ as a ‘denier’. (Folks will just think I am one of Al Gores security detail).

Wasn’t it Willis Eschenbacher who had a rocking story about, er, lighting some methane? I laughed so hard I was actually crying; fortunately I was without an audience at work that evening.

Joe bastardi you’ve been spot on about the NH ice melt this year due to currents/wind etc also about el nino/la nina event. Actually you and David archibald together would probably get 100% right. BTW acording to DMI ice its going up quick now. The AGW would have used a greater than 2007 melt to the max not of course realizing that 10 years of ice records = zilch

I couldn’t resist. Seeing Al Gore rambling again about the looming apocalpyse and how sea-level rise will eventually drown all coastal residents, I decided to start my own consulting business. I set up the site in about 20 minutes, but I’ll do some writing and make it appropriately satirical over the next few days. Feel free to visit: http://www.climaterealty.com/

Notice the credits. Most of them have to do with the name Getty. Getty Oil money related?
Of course. The purpose of carbon taxes to increase the price of coal (more co2 per unit of energy) as compared to oil, which will increase the demand for oil, and thus the price. Getty Oil ends up one of the big winners.
The rest of us lose big time, because there is a lot more cheap coal than there is cheap oil. Oil is close to 10 times the price of thermal coal, and there is a couple of hundred years supply of coal without even looking for more reserves. No-one but no-one is talking about “peak coal”

Ever since the fecal matter hit the rotary oscillator with climategate, it has been flying in all directions with no end in sight.

Climate RealitY? Climate Crisis?
How about Financial Reality and Financial Crisis …. that is what people like Gore have brought us. Such Rot. Thank goodness I am an engineer and not a scientist. Applied Sciences usually work cause they are based on PROVEN science, not virtual science.

The calendar mixup is easy to explain. Payroll calendars begin with Monday in column 1. This is about Mr. Gore’s payday, after all.

Speaking of Al <Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your FB & Twitter account keys> Gore, and his paydays … Donna Laframboise has a very timely post, today:
Al Gore’s Money-Grubbing

It’s not apparent what has been proposed, other than a weakly defined blog widget.

Mr. Bastardi,
My grandfather talked of a time around 1900 when all the cattle on and around the Texas/Oklahoma border North froze to death due to the cold.
As of now there are cattle ranches that are out of stock pond water for the first time in West Texas from the time of the first fences to now.
If Al Gore wants some skin in the game and he knows it is going to warm he should be buying farm land in say North Dakota or Canada. But he is not. Guess he is allowing the little people to pick up some deals uh?

I encourage everyone to kick off the 14th with a viewing of the famous South Park documentary “Manbearpig.” It’s free, it’s real, it’s true, it’s devastating. Excelsior!
http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-episodes/s10e06-manbearpig
“Former Vice-President, Al Gore, speaks to the students of South Park Elementary about a serious threat to the planet; Manbearpig. Gore enlists the boy’s help to search for the elusive creature and gets them all trapped in a cave-in.”
===========================================================================
WOW, the South Park Al Gore makes a lot more sense than the real Al Gore… 😉

Just in time for Green/Labor introduction this week of the Lunatic ‘Black Hole’ Tax. Unless leadership rumblings bring a change, the lid on the coffin of Labor will be shut with this tax introduced, and pushed into the crematorium…oops sorry…too much Carbon pollution…buried instead. http://pindanpost.com/2011/09/13/last-refuge-of-a-scoundrel-24-hour-laughfest/

Just thinking, can we get more “NO” replies for the event on facebook?
https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=188742181183369
If you have a FB account, go to the above link and click the ‘NO’ button
The current count, less than 48 hours out is:
56,215 attending
14,626 maybe
218,679 awaiting reply
32,076 no

So let’s ask a serious question:
Since this is supposed to be broadcast in each of the world’s time zones, has there been any mention about translation into other languages?
Is he going to assume that the “non-developed” countries have the ability to pick up the broadcast AND understand English?
Or is that why there’s an extra 200 slides – kinda like the plaques we attached to spacecraft in case there’s intelligent life out there?
Let’s launch those slides out into space. Give the aliens a good laugh.

A great idea for science would be a 24-hour debate. But Gore doesn’t do debate… Too bad.
